well my original fatality that i experimented with is back from RMA. Looks like they sent me a new board as i marked the other one with an identification mark and this one is missing it.

interesting bios 16 has seemed to revitalize my poor clocking sandy. so far 2500mhz 10x250 1/1 on bh-5 memory prime stable for 8 hours so far.
can you confirm that selecting max vdimm(3.4V) actually stays at that level now
were you the user who knew how to check vdimm and vcore volts on the motherboard with a multimeter

Yes I have the same overvoltage... probabley just a reporting error from the mobo.Quote:

can you tell me where the points are as i would like to check my one too

ive seen a lot of situation where the dfi nf4 boards kill memory and dying for no reason
gimme a day to post those test locations dino. ( running prime non stop past couple days hell of a load on comp.) Um in all honesty i think its really a matter of choice as far as which board you get. DFI seems to have its issues.....Abit seems to have its issues..........So if your a big fan of yellow go with DFI and if your a fan of red or reddish orange use abit.

I´m not running any oc.
My system consists:
Cpu: 3700+ SD
Mem: 2x512 ADATA TCCD
Mobo: Abit AN8 Fatal1ty SLI
PSU: Enermax EG465AX-VE (G) FN
All voltages are at default except for the DDR witch is at 2.7V, all voltages are reading fine.
My system temps are (I have WC in CPU and GPU):
CPU: 38ºC idle full load 43ºC
Ambient temp is around 31ºC
What’s the “HT Width” and what setting should I use?
Are you using 1T memory setting?Quote:

Has anyone removed the heatpipe and replaced the the tim pad with an artic silver alternative?
I noticed it had a pad around the outside probably for support, did u remove it or not?
Just wondering cause i did and it seems to run hotter now so im not sure its makeing good contact with the pad in place. :(
take the pad off or put more of the AS stuff in there
as soon as i cracked open the mobo box

As soon as i saw the TIM i thought that. It is somewhat thick and spongey so i think your right. It does have a pad around the perimeter so i think that does help keep it somewhat level.Quote:

HELP !!!!!
I just bought an an8 ultra and it seems fubar'd. 1st off the mobo posted, did a quick trip through the bios, set to boot from cd rom, started to install windows. well every time the machine is rebooted or needs to reboot ( during windows install) the board will not even post when it goes to reboots. I have to reset cmos every time without exception, for the mobo to post and boot.Once into windows it "seems" to run ok. (although i havent installed anything yet.
I've tried 2 types of memory, 1 512 stick, 2 512 sticks, 1 256 stick, 2 256 sticks, etc etc and nothing, the same thing happens every time no matter what. I get an ff on the lcd display.
I have even tried to flash to the newest bios and I canty even get it into dos mode. any ideas? is this thing in need of the garbage pile?
specs abit an8 ultra (non sli)
amd 3700 sd
tried geil ultra 4000 2x512
tried kingston 3200 2x256
HELPPPPPPPPP please.
make sure it is set to 2T. Increase vdimm to at least 2.8
install bios 15 or 16
Disconect all other periferals besides K-board and Mouse.
I'm running the most basic test setup one can have:
AN8-Ultra
Winchester CBBID 0503
2X256Meg G.Skill "LE"
PCX-5750
WD 40Gig IDE
Tagan 480W
Board came with v13 BIOS. I have tried v16 also. Here's the issue:
No matter what I save in the BIOS, including Optimized Defaults, power off, then power on, and the board won't POST unless I clear CMOS...!
I have had the board to 9X300 @ 200 1T 2.5-3-3-7, 3X...... But power up the next day or even 2 minutes later, I have to clear CMOS to get it to POST!!!
Anyone else see this before I RMA my POS...?
I am getting pretty confused with reading from several forums about these boards. I have been thinking about getting an AN8 SLI and building myself an A64 computer. Currently what BUGS are not fixed. I understand you hardcore overclockers want more of this and more of that, but what is actually not working as designed. I have read something about the venice core chip and 1T not working right. Is this an Abit issue or AMD issue? If Aibt, did the BIOS 16 fix it? If AMD did the new AMD 64 drivers that just came out fix it?
I was planning on getting:
Abit AN8-SLI
AMD 64 3200+ Venice core
Either a 6600GT or 6800(to try and unlock the pipelines and other vertex shader)
Also read that a 6800 locked or unlocked is still better than two 6600GTs in SLI.
I plan on using the remaining hardware from my current system which you can see down in my sig. Please let me know what you think about this. I was just stuck on what motherboard to get, but if there is a problem with the venice core than I do not want one of them either. Yes I do overclock, but I do not go for every last mhz. Like I had my 2500+ barton up to 2.5ghz, but I run it at 2.2ghz. I would like to run my venice at 2.5ghz, but know every chip is diff and there is a possibility for it not to make it that high. Most likely it should make it to about 2.7ghz from what I have read. If you all have any comments or suggestions it would greatly be appreciated. Right now at newegg there is a weekend special on the AN8-SLI for any of you who want it as well. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813127207
It is only $134.50. I believe the normal price was $150. Hopefully I can get some answers before the weekend is over so I can save a little bit of money. I just wanted the Venice core because I hear they overclock the best and are the best for the money. Thanks again!

I'am looking a an8-ultra, good potential, good price for me, but problems how 1T instability, temperature reporting,Voltage Regulation and many other problems(for overclockers) make me doubt on my purchase, I hope that these problems be fixed with new bios, but the last bios don't contribute a lot....
If want the best 939 board u can get and are willing to wait a little longer i would get the dfi board with the new ati chipset.
I would never go DFI if i didn't know the board have been out for a few months and people haven't experienced as much problems that there are now. (and have been with the Socket A lanparty B cards and so on). I think that grouper is the way to go if any, looks like they have hardtested the cards so we get a good bios from the beginning.Quote:

as far as know, 1T issue appears with higher clocks.
an8-ultra/ sli are a goods mobos, but have many problem for Overclockers(problems something "raws"), and it's a contradiction for abit.
I think that these problems will be solved, but idea would be soon.
this page is very familiar, but....

Has anyone had the 1t issue dissapear after alot of use?
When i forst go t the board it wouldnt boot anything over 238mhz 1t now im currently at 255mhz 1t?? Im not sure what i done or the board did but its working fine now??
My problem with 1T is deferent from what I’ve seen in this thread, it will boot fine Works fine to Windows but when I ran intensive cpu usage software, (SuperPI, Snm, prime95) it powers down as if I’ve touched the power button, now I’m running at 10x280HTT 1:1 2T, with bios 16. Stable as a rock.
Ps: tictac 13 bios must have some problem with the pci lock as it corrupted my Windows.
Rather then list all the crazy things I have run into in the first 2 days of running this board, suffice it to say the the "Fan Speed Monitoring" options in the "ABIT EQ" BIOS window should be disabled if there is no fan connected to those headers....
The "CPU FAN Speed Shutdown" is enabled by default and for those of us on water cooling, we don't normally have a fan connected to the CPU Fan header.....
Getting some results with my Venice 3200. This is with 2X256 Patriot XBLK.... 2X512 needs 2T to get this high.... AN8-Ultra v16 BIOS:
http://www.lejabeach.com/sisubb/an8ultra072305-1.jpg
can anyone give me suggestions on what ram to buy for the an8 ultra ? 2x512's that will run 250HTT and above.
I'm running Patriot "XBLK" TCCD... It's $165 for 2X512 at NewEgg....
I run 2X512 matched pair of Corsair XMS PC4400 DDR550. It's good to 275HTT by default without having to tweak timings or increase voltages.Quote:

so is this cosair xms4400? is the patriot xblk the 3200 at new egg?
I'm gonna order some memory and I really want something that will run 250-260 htt at 1t on this ultra board.
thanks for the info so far guys
how can you be so certain that RAM will give you 1T.....whoever said anything about that......

SO
The fatal1ty sli board is looking to be my next purchase and my system is as so:
enermax 600w ali niosetaker
athlon 3000+ winchester current
athlon x2 4400 (on order)
evga 7800 gtx (i have one now, but will be running 2 when i have enough for the second card)
1 gig ocz pc4000 VX
I have read this thread from start to finish now and from what i infer these are the the known issues:
-1t command rate reboot on "e" revision cpu's above 225 htt
-incorrect temp reported (just like my old ic7-max3)
-errors galore if fan reporting headers arent disabled in bios
-x2 + sli capability non functional unless using bios 16
-voltage fluctuations on vdimm?
What i need to know is if this board will eat my VX sticks? If you were me on UTT modules would you make the switch?
Also the chipset cooler on thid boasrd is placed in the same spot as my DFI, basically under your vidcard. Anyone know of a water block that will fit underneath?
My water cool setup will be as follows:
swiftech mcp 350 pump
120mm rad
koolance cpu300 v06 cpu block
koolance nv2 vid l02 waterblock
The ram i have is the xms4400c2.5pt...512mb sticks.....but i have to say in my experience its hit and miss...these sticks will do 1t on my fatality an8 sli to about 280mhz...but not on the an8-sli board they sent me from RMA.....the a8nsli will only do 220mhz 1t at any ram divider and it gets unstable above that...the fatality wont do 1t at 1:1 above 230mhz.....also with the fatality board i have...the sticks must be in the right order in slots 1/2 for it to work...so i think what dino22 is trying to say is...so far with this board nothing is %100 certain...
just replace the tim pad with Arctic Silver and you are good to go. The heatpipe works really well.Quote:

the non fatal1ty is silent as well.
Is the extra 100 bucks worth the uguru panel?
hehehe....I am a lot more active with this than you think......hehehehe......there is no solid evidence that RAM forces you to run 2T......you'll have to doa bit more searching and testing to confirm that dude

THe only question that i really have is that when i set my vcore to 1.475 in the bios it reports as 1.400 in the cpu-id and cbi. Are they wrong or is my board refusing to go over 1.4 vcore? Also mine hates tight timings so far but thats ok as i want high 1:1 speeds.
something strage with your vcore there...have you tried BIOS15/16

Hi all --
After reading this whole thread, One issue I am uncertain about is with the passive cooling heat pipe on the Chipset with these non-Fatal1ty AN8's: will this pose a problem with a water cooling set up? Also, for those running this OC'ed 24/7 on water, does the chipset seem to get very hot with this passive set up and no CPU fan?
If I read the information right, then I believe that this passive cooling solution makes use of the CPU fan to move air through the fins. Therefore, are there other chipset cooling solutions that will fit and work for this if one does not use air cooling? It does not look like a water block will work on this -- at least not the SLI version. Considering that I do not plan to go SLI, I suppose that the AN8 Ultra would be a better choice for chipset cooling options. I kind of wanted to get the AN8 - SLI version just for the extra room and also the option of using SLI latter on.
Which brings up another question: if one only plans to run one video card, does it matter which PCI-E 16x slot is used (i.e. can I use the second slot for a single card)?
I suppose I could shell out the extry cash for the Fatal1ty SLI version -- which has the OTES fans and copper Abit chipset cooler. But I just don't feel right with it .. not at all.. Plus, I just can't stand the look on that kid's face .. Makes me want to place a thumbnail picture of that mug @ Abit’s site on the bulls-eye of a target next time I go to the range... a .45 round should just about cover it, lol (j/k ;) ) :toast:
