Yeah, you did, it looks better! :D
J/K :toast:
I don't know about WS, but ordinary boards, like P8P67 Pro I had, were so boring to me. M4E has much more BIOS options to tweak and have fun.

So could anyone give me a hint about what settings to change from auto? Like I've asked before, most settings I change only create instability or the system hangs on lockup. I'm forced to leave everything, but vcore, on auto.
here are my volts for 24/7
http://i54.tinypic.com/1ya2vd.png
normally for 2 dimms I undervolt vccsa to 0.9v, but for 4 dimms I raised it a bit.
Also normally for 2 dimms I run vccio at 1.06v with no problems.
llc at 75%, I have both the jmicron and marvell controller disabled since I do not use them.
When you bench, you can load the extreme oc profile, and set voltages from there.
I'll play with that tomorrow and see what's up. I don't want to try anything while there's a lightning storm.
I'm just looking for that extra 100 mhz. Hopefully this'll get me there.
I'll report back tomorrow.
Is the Marvell 9182 6G SATA controller worth using? or should I stick to the Intel? ...and how do they compare, is it much better/worse than the Intel?
(sorry if this has been covered)
Hi
for me the best for my SSD is intel controller
marvell = slow ssd
Hi
i post my setup bios for 5 Ghz on air / HT on

but i can t be stable at 5 Ghz whit 1.40Vcore
if you can post you bios setup , thank you ;)
any news on any new BIOS????
Hi,

Maybe it's the chip? I tried those settings. Same issue. Windows sits at the MS Flag screen (been 2 minutes as I type this) and won't load.
Really strange. I can live with 4.9ghz. I'll have to play around with this later.
I do have the SSD on the marvel port, could that be it?
How far u can go with VCCIO?
What is a max recommended voltage for 24/7 without "hurting" the cpu?
Around 1.4, 1.45 max imo.
@RAJA
i have make tests about sata performance on virus scan pcmark05
on same settings with mive and msi marshall ,on mive i cant do better than
1100 virus scan with 3 acards
on marshall seems to be easy 1300.
when i use marvel controller with bclock of 105 circa i have
os corruption
maybe need a bios update for both controllers intel and marvell
thanks RAJA :)
testing a new 2500k, i love this board:)

reflash 1409 bios and problem resolved
I noticed today that the boot led or the vga led were red but only for a few minutes when I turned my PC on.
The led turned off and everything appears to be okay but should I be worried?
Thanks.

Okay, so I'm back...just placed an order for the newest Z68 version of this mobo. We'll see how it goes...again.
When I first boot my PC the vga and boot led's light red.
Should I be worried?
Thanks.
Hi again, two more issues....:p:
Firstly, which version of turbo evo is best for mive? Because the one that is included at ai suite pack ive donwload from asus site, it show the bckl freq as 4,2mhz...
The other and more important problem, is happening when every day i open the pc...It stacks at windows load bar and a blue screen appears with code "page fault in
non paged area". I have to flash the bios or set manually the vdram..then boots and all day working stable without problems.
The memories pass all stability tests. The only strange ive noticed, is the psu 3.3v that in bios it seems to be a little down at 3.050v-3.100v...
Anybody having issues using SATA controllers on PCIex16 slots?
@ Raja@ASUS
Is it OK to run the ram with 1.65V for 24*7 or could it damage the CPU (SandyBridge)?
Normally Intels Spec say max 1.55V...
Everybody is saying something different...
Maybe you could help me.
I have here are problems with the USB
1,2,3, and 4
Sometimes even leave work, but know what it is
I have the 1409 bios if anyone can help.
I have been playing around with this mb.
One thing that I would like to know, how much would affect if I use instead of bclk 100, bclk 100.3 like it is set as stock when I used for the first time the mb??
And another thing, does someone of you uses one of the thermal sensors that comes with the mb accesories?
I would like to attach one of them to the vrms, in order to change T. PROBE to EXTREME. What you think?
I don't really understand, affect what? You can use any BCLK as long as your rig boots.
Those sensors are useful and working fine. I used them on R3E, but now I don't, as this board is too cool.
BTW, I played a bit last night with my Hypers, as it's too hot for anything else.
http://img848.imageshack.us/img848/4995/maxxmem2340.jpg
With affect I refer to stability. Or decrease life spam or as far as I know, bclk is related to the vga isn't it? If so... may be could affect the vga too.
That was the meaning of affect.
And another thing that was spoken many times, which would you recommend as maximun vcore for 24/7.
I read about the maximun is 1.35.
And I have mine at 4.5ghz with 1.304/1.312vcore
Oh, that... Stability wise, you go as far as you can go while keeping it stable. I have seen no data corruption while testing for max BCLK. Using SSD on Intel's controller.
About graphic cards, I ran NVidias at 125MHz PCI-E clock on NForce chipsets, and at 115MHz at Intel's chipsets. No problems there. I don't really know about Radeons.
Hehehe... Max vCore... My favorite. :D
I run my 2600K at 1.5V 24/7, so it's under Intel's max recommended voltage. Ran 980X/990X at 1.475V, over max. I would run 2600K up to 1.6 24/7 if I could cool it, but high frequency make much heat.
Just for those disproving my voltages:
Intel Q6xxx series max voltage is 1.55V - they took much abuse with few killed ones.
Q9xxx series max voltage is 1.4V - many dead.
i7 9xx (Bloomfields) max voltage is 1.55V - took so much abuse, few killed.
i7 980X/990X (Gulftowns) max voltage is 1.4V - many, many dead.
i7 2xxx (SandyBridge) max voltage is 1.52V - some dead already, but IMO caused by different reasons (Air cooling on high frequency, high VccIO, VccSA, etc...)
You get my point?
People get used to one generation that can take the punishment, then continue punishing next one, until ending up with dead CPU.
Ahaha okey, good to know.
I'm running mine with the stock 100,3. I had it previously with 100. Thats is barely nothing but I will leave it that way.
So intel's maximun recommended voltage is more than 1.5?
I thought it was 1.35.
And then about your clarification about others cpus, you have tested all of them and have many of them dead, isn't it?
So refering to your experience you found the maximun vcore for each generation, after many dead ones... kill one save a thousen(?) :yepp:
What I couldn't understand is your last comment, what do you mean with "then continue punishing next one, until ending up with dead cpu"?
Sorry
Thanks for your reply!
I'm playing with this...

Apart from being stable or not.
Which to you seem to be a high value and which is a lower one?
There are many options that I don't fully understand what they do, but judging from others settings I end up with what you see on the picture.
What I ealready achieved is 4.5ghz but with 1.290vcore and I think it is a little bit high, isn't it?
Thanks!

No, I didn't kill them all. I would need to be filthy rich to do that. :D
I just read Intel's datasheets and pay attention what is happening around the net.
My last comment was about people getting used to high voltage CPU that can take the punishment, and then killing low voltage CPU's when using high voltage like used to do.
It's not so bad, don't worry. There are better CPU's out there, but yours is not bad. It looks similar to mine.
You could try lowering VccIO, if running RAM at 1600MHz. No need for increased voltage at such speeds.
of course, thanks for the reminder.
jaja yes for sure you should have a wallet plenty of money.
Ahah now I get it whay you tryied to say. Yes you are right, not all the cpus are exactly the same. But well... everyone has its own ideas.
Ok well I will not worry that much, is all I can promise :(
I will lower the VccIO so, and there is something else that could be lowered?
Would be great if you could post your bios settings if you cpu is similar to mine, may be I can try some of your settings if you don't bother.
Thanks!
PD: Before I forget I add your account to my messenger, if you use it often we can talk there too.
Thanks for your help again.

Nothing else to lower, just VccIO. If it works at default - good, if not - raise it again.
BTW, I did some tests and discovered that lowering all voltages except vCore does not lower CPU temperature by a single degree. If anyone's findings differ, please share.
All voltages were lowered by 0.05V except CPU PLL which was lowered by 0.1V.
CPU was at 4.8GHz 1.41V LLC 100% (+0.02V load) HT ON; RAM at 1600MHz 7-7-7-20-1T, LinX w/AVX gave 107GFLOPS, room temperature 24°C w/AC, two hottest cores were always at 73/74°C.
P.S. I'm retesting my OC settings with SP1/AVX, and when I'm done - I'll share.
Hmm... LinX bar turned purple. :shakes: It means that linpack was closed before finishing.
who can help me ?
my friend bought maximus 4 extreme + 2600k + gskill ripjaws X 1600Mhz
Motherboard show debug error 30
whats this problem ?
Might be overclamped CPU cooler and or some kind of memory issue. Power off at AC, clear CMOS, and remove one DIMM. Take out the DIMM closest to the CPU first. Power board back on and see if it will POST.
What kind of CPU cooler are you using?
If not Intel stock cooler, take the CPU cooler off, check the socket for bent pins. With the CPU out of the socket clear CMOS also (this sometimes helps odd as it sounds). If all is ok, put everything back together and see if the board will POST with two DIMMs.

Hi
5Ghz and 1.35V !
i can t do that
can you post all setup bios please ?
Thanks ;)
I would like to do some kind of experiment... to find out if it is an issue of the mb chipset...
Does someone here has obviously the asus maximus iv extreme and a hard disk drive SAMSUNG HD204UI?
If so, no matter that you have already update the samsung firm to the one that solve the data problems.
Would be interesting if someone of you try to reflash the hdd using the usb stick and all the things involved on it, keep the hdd plugged into one of the 6gb sata ports controlled by the chipset and see if you can update the hdd's firmare or you see an error, "uknown error".
That would be all, it require a couple of seconds. Then we will see if we also have mb that has issues with hdd sata 2 plugged on sata 3 ports... when they are supposed to be also able to run at full capacity the previous version of the connector.
I hope I had been clear enough.
Thanks!
Osterman, have you tested with hot-plugging enabled and then disabled?
Yes I already tried to plugg them on sata 2, sata 3, sata 3 by the marvell controller.
On ide mode, on ahci mode.
And the only way to update the disk was with them on the sata 2 ports. What bothers me is the fact that I couldn't update it when it was on the sata 3 port. Where is me retro-compatibility?
Had the same problem was the memory was not seated in the board,i took it out and reseated them and the pc started up.
CLAP CLAP CLAP.
No way would I run 24/7 5Ghz 1.5v... temps under control or not.
Hello guys.
I'm having problems with this wonderful mobo, here my rig:
cpu: 2600K
ram: Corsair Dominator GT 2133mhz (8gb)
vga: 3 x Evga gtx580 hydro copper in tri SLI
hd: 2 Ocz Vertex 3 max iops edition in raid0 (marvell controller)
Power: Antec True Power Quattro OC edition
Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D
Cooling: EK kit 360 deluxe with a second blackice 360 radiator (parallel circuits, one for mobo and cpu, one for the 3 vga)
My aim is 5.0ghz stable, i've started with 100x50 with VLL calibraton 75%, slowly rising vcore until 1.46, working but not nearly stable. I've tried VRM ffm forced to 350, i lowered ram to 1866, still getting bsod and hyperPI not always complete 32M cycle. I've tried to play with other settings to no avail. Taking for granted that very likely i didn't got the best cpu of the world, here my questions:
First: i'm running with bios 1303, should i upgrade to 1485? or downgrade (if possible) to 1204?
Second: What else i can try? someone can post or point me to stable 5.0ghz config? (i know, every cpu is different but at least i have something to start with). Any other hint is more than welcome.
Thanks in Advance
Well here I am again, now playing with this:
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/1975/473rd.png
What you think? something to pull down?
And certanly it was topic of discussion many times, but... 1.4xx or more for 24/7... is it safe?
I mean how far will you push the vcore for 24/7?
You can try "BCLK skew" to around -8 (CPU dependant), it can help lower VCore requirements for some stress tests.

Intel 82583 and 82579 LAN controller of the Maximus IV Extreme-Z, what is the difference of the two?

new beta bios 1850 for the MIVE
http://hwbot.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15952
I'm still on 1303, I'm behind the times.
Should I just skip to 1850 or just 1409?
I just ran 3dmark11 benches today! Damn, I'll have to update and try again!
Will do tomorrow.
Does somebody know if you have also the boost in 3DM2k1 with the 1850 bios?
No . You should use only 1596 and newer 1598 for 3d01 .

Tiny update.
Installed 1850 Beta. Scary! Updated the bios fine, but restarted 3 or 4 times there after talking about ROG connect update. It works though, so don't panic!
I went back, tried my original settings (basically everything on auto), 1.4v 49x100. Fine. Just attempted 50x100. I could barely get into windows. I was able this time to complete at least one round of Prime95 FFT before BSOD. I think I can tweak it now to get 5ghz actually stable (I hope).
There is an improvement over 1303, clearly!
Will give 1850 a try!
Anybody had problems with raid on intel controller with bios 1409 and 1850?
With 1303 and previous everything works fine and smoothly.
With 1409 and 1850 if i enable raid on intel controller i'm unable to boot. If i try to install win7 i can create and format partitions but i can't install getting:"Windows cannot be installed on this disk. This computer's hardware may not supporting booting from this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
Switching back to ahci function restore complete disks functionality and theoretically i can install and boot OS.
I'm the only one that experienced this problem with the last two bios?
Have you created that RAID array on the newer BIOSes?
-Raja
I also use a raid system (raid-0) and have no issues at all with the newer bioses...
yes and no
The first volume (ssd raid0) has been recreated with new bios after secure erase
The second volume (HDs raid1) has been kept as is from previous bios.
Both result not bootable if i try to install win7, and by the way, i slammed in a fifth 1tb hard disk not in raid, win7 installation see it and allow me to partition and format, but again "not bootable".
If i switch back intel controller to ahci, every disk is seen and can be used to install win7.
Pretty much odd....
Hi Raja
Already tried, i also tried to unplug both arrays and run the system with a single 1Tb disk alone, with controller configured as ahic i can install win. If controller is configured as raid i still see the disk, can partition and format it but i still get the "not bootable" error message.
Now i have 1850 on one rom and 1303 on the other one (1303 allowed me to install win7 and boot the system).
I am wondering if the ROM update between those two BIOSes is causing issues. When you change from one BIOS to the other do you get a few reboots with a ROM update message?
Only other thing is some of the RAID array meta data is still on the drives (which it should not be if you "broke" the array via the RAID ROM and also secure erased the drives).
-Raja
Yes, every time i switch i get a couple of reboot with asus rog connector updating himself "do not shutdown etc etc".
About to array metadata dunno... told you, even with both arrays unplugged, and i really mean plugged out from the case, even a single new disk get the "not bootable" error if controller is enabled as raid.
I am running a RAID 0 config with two SSD's and a single 2TB WD Cavier Black as a storage drive and everything is running great on 1850. All I did was flash bios, configured bios and rebooted.
