P6235 3DMarks 963 core only bios voltage mod
Any new BIOS with high voltage for GTX470? Or any new tweaking utilities to push GTX470?
I use nVidiaInspector ny Orbmu2k to OC mine.
Hello everyone :)
I'll cut to the chase: Does anyone have that Vmem pencil mod done successfully on a GTX470?
I know the vr-zone is trustworthy and I did the OCP mod as indicated, and it worked like a charm. But this pencil mode, doesn't seem to cut it... :/ I tried sereval times, but the Vmem doesn't move at all. And I am a bit reluctant to do a classic vmem mode, with a trimmer - if I have the option of a pencil mod, instead.
I know pencil mods of the past relied heavily on what kind of pencil is used; so check that.
I tried that pencil mod again with a different pencil - no luch again. I'm getting my soldering iron warm...
i got Gigabyte GTX480. with default FAN settings temperature in Crysis is 92-94C. all people remember what happened with another hot cards 8800GTX / GTX280, after 1-2 years of using they usually died, and reason was that videochip falls off from PCB, because too big difference drop in temperatures, idle 50, load 90.
What do you think, will be same story with hottest today card GTX480 after 1-2 years?
My 295 died and in summers in India that thing would be sitting at 90+ 95+(In games hours on end) all the time. Friends 8800gtx was the same, the 8800gtx (Evga) is still running in another friends machine playing crysis 2 :P
But with both cards since im the type that cant help open stuff up used to get serviced ( at pretty regular intervals) changed paste on the cards twice in their lifetime didnt have a choice with the 295 the sandwich cooler loved dust.. I feel it depends on the chip you get. Just as some OC better some probably age better with use.
Gonna get a 480 most likely and im gonna slap a ACX on it before I oc it and put it through the usual abuse. Famous last words :P
Anyone know anything about the 470 Engineering cards? I just got two of them and wondering what I can do with them. Will normal waterblocks fit them? What all can you do with engineering model cards?
I received a GTX 480 replacement for my 3rd RMA GTX 295 and I put a Zalman VF3000F on it:

How far do you think I should go? I have had MSI Afterburner up to 910/1820/4000 with 2 completed 3DMark11 runs (see link in sig)
Basically do you think I will gain anything going to a hardware volt-mod over software if I'm already breaking 900 on the core? Avg temp during gaming - 60-70C with current OC
I wouldnt go over what you can get in afterburner voltage wise on air. Its not just GPU temps you need to watch, and that VRM temp is only a general reading, not from within any of the card componentry.
Water cool if youre vmodding dude, seriously. Youll get more clock from the temp drop anyway without touching voltage than you would by vmodding on air. You didnt do that to any of your 3 295's did you? :p:
I have been OCing on air for about 10 years and I don't plan to change; hell I won some of my hardware in air OCing competitions.
I never touched anything having to do with voltages on the 295, as many know, there was only water cooling.

That is a crazy overclock Mr Tooshort!! :D
Should I upgrade to the GTX 680's? Currently upgrading to x79 platform. is it worth it for possible gains? While mainly playing bf3?
Please advice
Thanks
Hlo
I would suggest picking up another 480gtx they are cheap now and sliyng...
