Do wheels come standard, Spots? :)
Yeah for example i have been waiting since page 2 back in march 09 but there is no point in posting " Is it done yet" every page once it is ready he will say so.
Otherwise you just end up with 33 pages of mostly, When is it going to be ready? questions...instead of a solid 10 pages of constructive case design questions
good God... someone please make a "are we there yet" emoticon just for Mick and this thread?!?!?!
hahaha...
some things are worth the wait...
Like this?
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif
Yes, I just made that.
it should read more like, Is it ready yet?
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif ? :D
kinghong1970: everybody knows, that those will never be completed. So makes no sense to post there, it will be just yet another rhetorical question. :)
Maybe this ziptie chair will convince him to continue ?
http://greayer.com/studiog/wp-conten...06/pulltab.jpg
damn... where can i get one of thems ziptie chairs?!?!?
i was doing some cable management when my girl asked me...
"daddy, what is that?" (pointing to a ziptie on my hands...)
"honey, this is a little wonder we call zip tie... if we had this about a hundred years earlier... we'd be flying through space..."
it's kinda like when Bubba started the recipies of shrimp...........
ziptie to fix laundry rack
ziptie to lock broken patio doors
ziptie to lock travel bags
ziptie to lock zipties together
ziptie to...
the uses are endless...
hahaha...
How did you get into zip ties? This is a case log! :D
What can people do when they get bored of waiting for case? :)
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...wethereyet.gif :D
It almost seems to me that this case is not going to be made.
If you think about the cost factor that this would be the case would be horrendously expensive.
Depending on the type of aluminum the costs could vary drastically, as well as if the internal components are fabricated or they are from a seperate third party, the costs could vary drastically.
Now my opinions of the case are, it is a great design, allows for some pretty sophisticated watercooling configurations. Only issue is it looks, well... bland.
If there was a possibility of getting the sketchup files, I would make some modifications to make it look like a case that would not only look appealing, but also have some portablity built in. Other than putting wheels on the bottom.
So, here is my proposal Mick64. Be honest with this forum. Announce your "manufacturer", share your files or just say that you are not doing this project and it is an idea that you can not get the necessary resources for. As for me, with those files, I could turn out a system such as that in about 2-3 weeks for a prototype. But that takes in to account for material ordering, quality, and well producing the individual components.
So, there you have it Mick64. If you want to have a community oriented design, you should at least release your sketchup design. Do not get me wrong, your design is great, it just needs some sprucing up in detail and overall appearance.
Let me know if you want to share your file(s). I would love to make some modifications to make it even nicer.
Best Regards,
WHICKED
Thread has gotten even more interesting...
WHICKED,
interesting post bro... but... Mick's been working on this for such a long time and it's his passion...
i don't know you and seems you've only come to XS and so i'll just have to take your word for it but...
1) if you want to propose to be the mfg for this case, then why don't you sign a NDA with Mick and then ask for the plans?
2) if you can improve upon... well, mick's design in sketchup is pretty easy to replicate and you can find tons of reference files for the sketchup components that you can use... perhaps it's best for you to come up with your own design...
3) if you can produce a proto that quick... brother... can i be your friend?...
not asking to post some pics or for some creds but... in a way... i guess i am?
i'd be very curious to see some of your other projects.
as for who mick is workign with on this project... that's his decision... or he could also have gotten into a NDA agreement with the mfg as well?
just my opinion..
but seriously... post some of your work...
thanks!
i agree with kingkong. Also what's to say you won't just steal his design? sorry but I didn't quite like the tone that came through with your post whicked.
well, "steal" is a bit on the harsh edge... give him benefit of the doubt...
but again, Mick's been with us a while and we all know how much this has been like a wet dream to all of us... :D sorry, mind in gutter mode...
but perhaps he is not letting us know until he feels he is ready... and we have to respect that...
till then, all we can do is joke around while gazing in amazement...
Loving your case ,
2 things
1. 1/2 or 3/8 tubing pls, anything smaller looks gay
2. INVERTED ATX IS BALLS, no offense.
sorry that was a little aggressive. Great case, hope u make it
Well... Thats your opinion Prizy... Some might disagree with you?
First, a NDA would account for nothing. He does not own a company, therefore he has no entitlement to his product.
Second, he can not copyright his product since he has shared the information publicly.
Third, UK business laws are different than US business laws. Which means NDA, company rights, disclaimers, etc etc... are all for not.
Fourth, I would not steal his design, the design is perfect the way it is. Hence he can "keep" his design. However, improving upon an idea and modifying it so it is not the same, is different. Now a lot of those people will say it is plagarism in a way. Sure, I guess you could say it is. However take a look at all the other case manufactures. Each one copies the same basic layout of each other, aside from Lian Li and MM.
Fifth, I understand the flaming aspect of my comments. But lets be real, a case manufacturer would have been able to fabricate a case within a month. A metal working shop with the necessary tools and materials could do it in 2-3 weeks. And how long has this post/thread been alive.
Would I like to make his case, yes, you bet. Would I like to make the design better, yes, you bet. But as for stealing, signing agreements such as NDA's, etc etc. You need to understand that those do not matter unless he owns a business, but even then NDA's do matter because he is based in the UK.
But from a high level, it looks as though he was going with 5052 aluminum 1/16" GA thick material for the inside, maybe 1/8" thick for the components and outer shell. Cost of materials: 6-7' (feet) x 10-11' (feet) material ~= $334.08, not including labor.
So the case would be around $600-$800 depending on who he goes through. But it might be more since, he would manufacturer it in the UK and then shipping costs are also an issue since tha case itself would weigh 30-55 lbs.
So, $1000 would not be hard to reach.
But like I said, the case is nice, it has a great design. I would make it, and see the costs of it, but there are just some things that make it bland.
As I understand it, if he's in the UK, then he doesn't need to bother applying for copyright, because he's put pen to paper. Any design which is produced physically (I believe computer files count) is automatically the intellectual property of the creater.
Case in point someone hires an architect (henceforth "client") to design their house. The architect compleats the drawings and provides a copy to the client. The client then proceeds to hire a second person (in this instance not an architect, but it makes no difrence what-so-ever) to submit the architects design for planning permission and to build the property. The architect sees his building (with a few minor cosmetic alterations) is comming up for planning, with the second person listed as designer. Architect seeks mediation, architect is awarded damages to be payed jointly by the client and his second person.
The author retains intellectual property, when anyone purchaces a copy, that is all they are purchaceing, in this instance the architect had not given permission to have his design built that would be making a copy of his copy (which the second person did incidelently by way of submiting the drawings). I believe the only exception to this is with sculpture (not a cast of a sculpture, the origional is where the intellectual property lies, not the casting which is a copy) and that the intellectual property rights are transferd with the sale of the sculpture.
The stupid thing is that all the person had to do was to write to the architect requesting his permission to have someone elce build the house, he would have probably said yes, possibly for a resonable fee. And would thereby avoided legal costs, and a fine.
Micks case design has give me great inspiration and I have taken some of his ideas and incorporated them within my own designs. However I must say that I agree with 'Whicked's' statements about cost and manufacturing this product. I can't see a major case manufacturer taking this on, if they did it would not be at the top of their priority list. This is most definately not due to the design but rather as whicked quite rightly pointed out the costs involved to produce each case is going to be astronimical, let alone the very limited market avaialable for such a case. The only companies I can see that may take this on are the likes of Danger Den and Mountain Mods where they will design around not having to invest massively in press tooling.
Whicked, I would be interested to know your background as you seem to be knowledgeable within this field! Please pm if you would rather.
Count me on the list!!! 4 loops are possible in this case....

Hey guys, take it easy with the pics :). I know you all love showing your SR-2 and 4x 480 rad loving cases, but this is Mick's thread for his case, and not the Liquid Cooling Case Gallery ;). Even though he's still jerking us off, it's still his thread.
These are nice cases, guys. Props to all of you for you creativity. Let's sit back, relax, and enjoy what's coming next...
I like the mac design case. Where can I order one?
My background is I work for a international company (I'd rather not list the name) that deals with 100,000+ per month in computer sales and support. I have access here locally in town to multiple metalworking and design companies. I have modded cases for professional companies here in my local town and for multiple LANFests. As for Micks64 design it is a great design, just a little lacking on portability and standout appearance (on the outside, inside the case is fantastic). My idea is to add a cleaner appearance with some added features that would make the case nicer and more portable for those users that want the case and have tha ability to move it.
If you want to know what I am thinking, take a look at the HP Z800 workstation, but add in the features and details that Mick64 has on the door panels and the internal components. That is what I was going for. Portability and functionality both inside and out.
WHICKED: Clean lines/looks is also feature. Too much cheap bling often spoil looks. For example silverstone FT02 & RV02 have almost same inner layout, but i'd gladly pay extra that first one costs for it's clean lines instead of plastic bling front of raven02 case. Minimalistic lines looks more expensive then ricer plastics.
Awww WHICKED, i hope you did not take offense... if you were... ... this is the internet and life goes on...
as for NDA... i make all my staff in my company sign NDA that IS legally binding to individuals... but perhaps you just have different set of lawyers...
if you want, i can recommend you to the law firm that has been representing my company for the past 20+ years... talk to the principals of your company or your legal team and have them contact me and i can recommend my lawyers if you... er... they want.
you are right... he has lost grounds on legal claim by publicly posting his design... so yes, trying to get an international patent at this point would be tough.. but then again, he does not have grounds for a patent... maybe a copyright which does not offer much protection...
(my background, i own, not work for, an apparel company that made millions of garments and footwear world wide and own patent in manufacturing process on a down jacket, since we're on the topic of backgrounds...)
but then again, i don't think it was his intention to try to dominate the wc'd chassis market worldwide... it just started out of his love and passion... then now to this...
but that is only a minor point... seriously, if you have so much resource at your fingertips... why not just go ahead and get the program and files and models and design your own?
you want to use his design to develop your own modification of it? pm him and ask him directly...
as for him choosing to work with so and so company... that's his choice... for one thing... there's no dishonesty on his behalf...
so, going back to topic... great that you got some resources...
1) down load Google Sketchup and go through the tutorials for about 15 mins...
2) go download some of the already done models of cases and parts here...
3) come up with some designs and post here, i'm sure the XS family would LOVE to give you some of their opinions...
4) give credit to where it's due, even if it's the internet... if you're inspired by Mick's design, do state so... it would be greatly appreciated.
5) if you have the funds to support your build... kudos...
6) pics... post tons of pics bro...
7) no more talk... just do it... we'd love to see what you can come up with... original or not...
just my quick opinions...
Is it almost ready???
@He-ColdFinger - no, not for some time.
Great design. Can you at least tell us if it's a well known and big case manufacturer. Wondering if it will be released in Australia. Also has anyone noticed that every case has a nearly identical layout. Even this one only has minor changes to the regular layout of cases. Bays at the front. Mobo in centre psu below (sometimes above). It is almost identical to my lian li except the rads. Would be handy for watercooling though. Can't wait.
How do you know WHICKED? :shakes:
wow if i didnt buy the lian li pc-p80 then id definitely buy this
maybe so, but he can surely just add something unique into the case that will be proprietary to his design ONLY and then head on over to his Patents & Trademark office and secure the legal rights to his design and all of the intellectual property. But again he would have to be the only owner and creator of such a case that is unique only to his design. And that might be hard seeing as at this point its just a case with holes and cuts in certain places that other cases lack or do not feature.
Amazing how I get flamed for a simple observation of time....
Anyway, I just feel that this will never be made. Take it or leave it. To much development, all promises, no prototyping.
Is it ready yet?
Wow, almost half your post count is in this topic being an annoying PITA. You need to sit back and be a good bit more patient. You don't seem to get it that Mick will post something when he has something significant to report.:shakes:
I wonder what a mod would find if they checked your IP, I get this odd feeling they might turn up someone that's already been banned. ;)
Yes, of course it's ready. :shakes head:
the decision to support the special motherboard over 140 rads (or even one 140 and one 120) still seems to be a mistake imo. The longer it takes to get this case into production the less sense it makes.
Thread cleaned, as requested by several people. No more gun pics and no more personal attacks.
Thank you shazza!
I know it's frustrating, but I'm only going to post when I've got something new that's worth posting. I'm probably as frustrated, if not more so, than all those that are interested in this case, but as it is, the manufacture of this case is completely out of my hands......:shakes:
I cant wait to see the case made :)
Thanks for cleaning up the thread.
Thanks for cleaning the thread. And Mick? Well.. I hope this ends well :)
Thanks shazza. I'm still really looking forward to this one :D
Waiting to see the final make of this, Im keen on getting one too, So hurry them up hehe
I just saw this thread and gotta say that I would definitely buy this case...awesome design
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/m...milies_051.gif
I really hope this case gets manufactured.
i'm a total noob and posted on the other thread on this case >.<
hoping and wishing... wishing and hoping... and so on...
been following this thread from the beginning, fingers crossed
though my loyalty stays with MM, this is THE best "classical" LC case I've ever seen
I'm willing to wait as long as it takes, I don't plan on upgrading for at least another 6 months to a year.
just saw this thread and wow!!! what was the last update on this case? where is it at? anybody making it yet? id be willing to pay a hefty premium for a case like this.
Nice Design. I would buy this case except for one problem. At least for me I need a Min of 6 bays, 8 if if I go with a bay mounted reservoir. I currently have 2 dvd/blue ray burners 2 sata racks & 1 double bay fan controller. I could see others possibly having the same issue. But then again I may be missing something because I see several different configs
Mike
gotta realize, if you were to get this case you'd have to redo your whole settup... at the same time, there's LOADS of room for bays in it... and also it's designed so have upto 2 complete loops with 2 large tube ressies inside it so you wouldn't need to about about the bay mounted ones.
gotta realize this case is HUGE... and freakin awesome.
Might be worth your while checking this out
ive just posted in the bittech thread relating to the Phobya competition for this case.
others should too!
http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=197115
yeah great lets do Phobyas job for them, FOR FREE!!!
i know that either a child or a monkey designed there fittings, so this can only be an improvment...
Does the winner get royalties per case when it gets put into production also?
This is going into mass production and will be sold internationally.
The winner will get the first case and name the case as they see fit.
Legalities regarding the design will be discussed with the winner.
Ah, OK, much more interesting, then!
Can't wait to see the winner case actually built! :D
So let me make sure I understand this right. The best case gets put into mass production pretty much? If so, fantastic!
yes the idea is the watercooling community designs the case, at each stage the community will decide which case goes through and the winning case will go into mass production and you will be able to buy a case you guys had an input in making from your local reseller.
It sounds interesting, i'll give this a go I think!
Oh God, don't make them too expensive! I want a piece of XS engineering without having to take out my first loan :D
As a bonus, the winner get Aqua-girl with all her sweets
Let me be first in line to buy this case, I am ready to spend couple of hundred of bux for this.
I wouldn't say it would be that high dependant on the manu he is in disscussion with as i know of two that would have the tooling ready for this kind of case.
With a few adustments to their current design I would think retail would hit in about 350-400$
That is more than reasonable imho.
If this really goes to mass production and in stores I might really be interested of buying it. It really looks awesome. I just wish that there was a slightly smaller version. It's a bit too big for my needs so a bit shorter model would be awesome :P.
and i just got a 700D... looks like I will be buying a new case AGAIN when the winner is made...
WoW Personally I couldn't think of a worse company to build this case than Auqatuning.  :(
A company that take part in Stealing other companies trading names, VERY disappointing indead.
I really love this case But I will personally never buy this case if Auqatuning have anything to do with it.
Please read this as to why http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=226794[/URL]
As for you zeropluszero did you even ask Mick about this?
Or did you just take his idea and hand it to the watercooling Devil!
.
Honestly, just growing the 700d/800d to fit this would work the best for me.
However I would probably expand the bottom radiator area to accommodate dual psus.
Give me an aluminum front, and side panels, and steel interior, it's going to be heavy no matter what.
I've seen a youtube video with a quad sli + dual proc sr-2 system drawing well over 2000 watts.
But at under 400, I would seriously consider the case.
Dear Mr Troll,
I'm guessing you have based your feelings on dealings you have personally had and the service you have received from our company?
We would like to congratulate you on digging up an old thread again, here have a cookie.
As for Zeropluszero he has just stated his intention to enter the comp nothing to do with Mick. Mick was contacted directly prior to the comp by Bit-tech if you must know.
Now if you dont like the comp DONT enter it simples. If you dont like the case the community works so hard on to design and vote for DONT buy it simples. But Crying about it on here isnt helping anyone so take a tissue (they are free) and come back when you have something constructive to discuss.
Dear Troll Company,
Please leave into the rank hole you crawled in from. What are you guys trying to steal now? Some case designs? How about designing it yourself instead of taking it from others? You being here is extremely offensive and I for one will leave this site if you are planning on staying here. You are trying to take someone's dream and are going to turn it into a nightmare. You guys are crooks, it is what you do best and there is no image you can steal to cover that.
LMAO Aquatuning, you little liars.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...8&postcount=11
Yet, in this thread you are syaing they will be mass produced and sold all over the world?Quote:
So the winner gets a case, they get to name the case and they get watercooling in the case. Based on the small qtys that will be made because of the very niche designs the prizes given will far out way any royalties of sales.
This thread suddenly got interesting.
mass being more than a handful and yes we would like to make to available to all.
There seems to be a misconception that this case is going to go off and sell in its millions and that the designer could get rich out of the royalites. Please note royalties make a very small percentage of the products cost so they would probably make enough for a few beers and that’s its.
I don't remember who said this first, but
Guys, isn't this heated a bit too much? Of course, untill those trademarks get released i won't be OK with AT aswell, but latest particular issue with that case design competition and/or royalties .. shouldn't it be between Mick vs AT and brought up to this level of flame in several threads with mirriads of posters only after issue failed to be resolved in normal way between those two sides?Quote:
This is hobby where we love to hate
