im suprised xfx isnt releasing a 900mhz version
any clock for clock details?
Cause if its the same i see no reason to upgrade, mines does 840/1100 on stock voltage so im fine with it. ;)
I think 4890 1GB stock ~ GTX 275 (GTX295/2) and OC 4890 2GB > GTX 285 = OC GTX 285
Reference cards like our PowerColour's have solder points for 8+6 pin but physically only 2x6 pin. OC cards have 8+6 pin.
Will try and get Clock for Clock and Max OC vs Max OC
Well vantage is quite the most irrelevant thing ever. :p:
The preeleminary benches from pconline dont show this gains.
All lower then 13% beside vantage, and ~13% is the increase in clockspeed on core and ~8% on mem which also adds a couble of % to the all over performance gain.
I dont think the 4890 is worth the upgrade for anyone who owns a HD4870 or 260GTX, espeicla with the option of a soft/bios voltmod for those cards.
Better wait for the 5 seriers.
thx
any 2gb 4890 available today anywhere ?
Why you want 2gb?
I understand the need for 1 gb (i got one myself), but 2gb is overkill. No game has that much textures, not even fanmods for oblivion.
Plus the more memory the worse to oc.
I suspected in that dailytech pic when I first saw it that that was another heatpipe, but wasn't sure.
What I want to know though, is will the "lowest" version of the 4890 (non-overclocked, cheapest ones), still have the same clock potential as the pre-overclocked ones? I know that this is usually never the case, but after reading a lot of tech sites news articles, this is what I am beginning to fear. :( (Though, I could be completely wrong.)
Can this be crossfired with my 4870x2 or should I just get a 4870 1gb?
Agreed, no market demand for much more than whats out there especially economically right now. Seems more like this is a counter to 280 to 285. On the upside though its creating some awesome deals for the 4870 1GB which is pretty much on par with this things performance.
One more week (or a few days) and all is done
You can now actually max out GTA IV. Its not as memory dependent as people may think, vanilla GTA IV release from Rockstar was just extremely rushed POS for the Christmas season. Patch 1.0.3.0 improved performance alot, also if using the -norestrict command in lauch shortcut you can max out all the draw distance/detail distances regardless or ram size and still play it confortably. I can max stuff out with my 8800 Ultra to high texture quality and view distance/detail distance set to 100 and still play with with smooth fps (25 minimum) at 1680x1050.
Anyways, sorry for sidetracking the thread just wanted to inform people.
maybe cause i dont play @ 640x480 :shakes:
you must be one of the large crowd that said 1gb is overkill/worthless when 1gb 4870 was released.. and all of you were proven wrong
despite 1gbs lower clock still offers more performance even @ 1024x768 vs 512mb
i play @ heavly loaded 1920x1080 so i certainly need 2gb
you guys dont need/want 2gb.. fine no problem.. but better not stay in my way
the day they release 4gb/8gb video cards is the day i move to 64bit win7/whatever os by then
OCUK has Vantage results at 22% increase with 13% clock boost.
40% after 4890 is overclocked.
A fellow Malaysian forumer is offering the 850Mhz at 300 and 900Mhz at 320USD. Malaysian prices are high so it's natural. For the 40% I think it's reasonable enough.
ok whats the deal everybody has the card but i don't see any tests even oc results whats up are you under nda or smthng ?
You WILL need a >1GB nVidia card.
A >1GB ATI card is really, really pointless. (I take my words back on the 2GB Vapor-X.)
In 1920*1200 8x AA, Far Cry 2, GTX260 uses about 450MB more vRAM than 4870.
I'm currently at work where broadband is generally fast, except to chinese sites...
I'll link it when I get home. But it's definitely 400+ MB difference, with GTX 260 at 9XX MB and 4870 not exceeding 512 yet. I saw the graphs last night and my jaw dropped.
From what a friend told me, nVidia doesn't blend the AA samples directly, rather storing them in a buffer. This can be extremely costly in several cases, and FC2 is one of them. In fact, might MSAA buffer readback (the DX10.1 feature that nV supports) be the cause of it?
Am anxious to see some results from 'Initiliased'. :)
That review doesn't look all to interesting yet imo.
You guys really thinks CCC 9.4 is going to increase performance a lot?

FAR CRY 2 VRAM Usage.
Yellow is min, green is max. In all cases vRAM usage was almost near-max after loading.
other games beside farcry showing that behaviour?
Yes.
