So NVidia figured out the video corruption issue and have let motherboard manufacturers know how to fix it. This means we should get a new bios soon.

What video corruption problem is this? I never noticed anything wrong.
Cant bloody wait for that bios update, I get none stop lock ups and crashing when playing movies and games with SLI
Our rigs are almost identical (no reptors here). On Vista Ultimate 64 I see no playback problems.
Yeh same, I have tried everything, every driver out there for my GPUs and nothing has worked, and on the asus forums it has been said that striker 2 formula suffers from the same problem as the reference boards, with my old striker exteme never had this problem, ever since I moved to the 780I chipset My SLI has been unstable, I have tried the evga 780I and that had the same problem but really poor overclocking so I moved on to this board. and so far overclocking is better but SLI is just a pain in the ass, wish intel motherboards had SLI that would be a dream come true tbh
eh hmm i wonder how did u guys stress this mobo??
i have no issue at all with this mobo and its running great..
only thing i find is u have to bump the pll to 1.6v for 4gb kits..
It's not people stressing the mobo. Some mobo's are fine and everything works, and others are filled with issues. You just got lucky and got a good one.
I've made my decission on the new ram i am getting. Being i believe my sticks are bad. They are Patriot Viper(2x2gigs). They wont cost me much and they look real good, and lots of good reviews. Any input from you guys would be helpfull.

HEY GUYS, Maybe Thats Not Questioned For The FIrst TIme But Can Anyone Tell Me Do I Need Extra NB COOLING For Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @4ghz  :D (now Stable @ 3.6 Ghz & Nb Temp Seems Fİne)
From what i've heard most people should have NB cooling when overclocking. If you're stable with no cooling at 3.6 then you have done a fine job. No idea what your temps are now. But more mhz would sure bring up the temps. Me personally i'm looking for fast and silent.
Well i figured my ram or some of it was bad. Either way the frezzing that you can read about in pages back i cant get rid of.
Today i figured i would give it another go. I read that i when having two sticks of ram you put them in the first and third slots. Yes i guess i should have known that b4 now. But i had 4 sticks b4 so i just didnt care. I've tried the sticks 1 each in the first slot already. So for whatever reason i did make it to windows and was up and running for 30+ mins. A record by a long margin, being most times i couldnt get past the republic of gamers screen. But then i got brave and plugged in the ethernet. All i wanted was the internet to work. Not a big deal, right? But while it worked, the mouse would be sluggish and for some reason sometimes liked the hard desk surface and not the mouse pad(big ass gaming mouse pad). It's not the batteries cause i replaced them. And it's not the mouse either. Cause when i unplug the ethernet the mouse worked fine. But then i would play arround and notice a little more sluggishness, without the ethernet. Now i dont know what the issue is. Maybe the new 1303 bios which i am useing. I tried reinstalling the nvidia ethernet drivers. But it didnt work, actually after uninstalling it, when i tried reinstalling it, it the desktop froze along with the mouse cursor. So now i am back where i started from. Not having a clue what's going on.
My question is, what is going on? Could it still be a case of bad ram. I have reason to believe maybe all the sticks are crap. Funny how they worked great for 3 months. Anyway i did manage to run a few benchmarks on the ram on everest. Came away with the same great scores as once b4. Read write and lat. I did manage to run the Vista performace tool "reliability and performance monitor". It showed alot of hard memory faults. I have no idea what this means but it can't be good, right? In my mind there shouldnt be any faults. But i have no idea, cause i cant find any info on this new windows feature. Could bad ram all of a sudden cause the ethernet to mess up my mouse. or more or less maybe not the mouse but the system begining to freeze. Could it be the motherboard or more likley the ram. Here is a screenshot of the Everest, showing my temps. They seem good to me. Plus i did go in the bios and check the NB and SB. NB was in the low 70's and SB was mid 50's.
One thing i noticed. While the bios settings are all on auto. The memory on the everest screen save it should be at 2.0 voltage but the bios says it's at 1.83, does this matter. All my settings in the bios are auto, so no overclocking.
Pics Below
Most definitely! Without the rated volts, you are going to run into problems. Set your ram volts to what it say in CPUID SPD data table, or as per rated specs.
Set the following for 4050 MHz:
CPU 1800 Clock
Ram works best Linked and Synced if you can run it that high. If not, run unlinked at SPD specs
CPU 1.4250v
PLL 1.6v
VTT 1.28
NB 1.42, and then check the temp. If it is below 60c in the bios, you shouldn't have a problem.
SB 1.50
1.2 HT 1.25
CPU GTL +30
NB GTL try -70 to +30 for best stability
man! its around 70 c at the moment. (@3.6 ghz NBvolt=1.3)
crappy 780i manufacturers, i thiink they had made a great deal with the coolers companies
Yeh I dont understand why the hell these chipsets get so hot even with good cooling they still are very high, and as anyone seen the new bios thats meant to fix video corruption issue yet?
1401 or whatever number they give it is NOT out yet...
Kudos (Κύδος=Δόξα) to you my friend. I've read all of your posts. You have done a great job in overclocking Striker II Formula (S2F). Among others, your post about HT1.2 affecting overclocking and bandwidth was great. Did you try to combine HT1.2 value with tRD setting?
To your question now.
I wrote about the defective heatpipes before. You might cut them without any effect on the temperatures. So in case you leave the copper plate that covers both NF200 and the southbridge and use four small aluminum heatsinks on top and a good heatsink with a fan on the southbridge, you are going to get lower temperatures on both the NF200 and the southbridge.
Though my suggestion is to drill a small hole on each heatpipe, fill them with water half way and close the hole by soldering. This way you are going to have working heatpipes, transferring heat at the mosfets area.
i finaly got this board today and it is great
only problem i have is the chipset is still too hot
i removed the heatpipes as soon as i got the board i applied some MX-2
and even with a 40mm fan the NB idles at 60c (450FSB 1.47v) and load is around 67c
i already have some thermalright coolers for the mosfets + NB + SB but i dont have anything for the NF200
what do you recommend i use to cool it
does it get that hot would a bga ramsink be ok?
thanks
You definitely want to cool the nF200. I fried one with a single heatsink on it, so I came up with a better solution. Look back a few posts to see my solution.
Im getting the video playback problem, i always thought it was my gc doing it, but my new 9800gtx's are doing it too, wheres this bios update!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYHuzJSpORw
Well is this the same problem Nvidia is talking about?
I thought the problem is about PC freezing during video playback.
How can we reproduce your problem?
It isn't freezing. Its a bunch of vertical red/green squiggly lines, making the video unwatchable. It happens for me about every twenty to thirty minutes when watching video. It doesn't affect games.
then the pc freezes... which is a pain in the ass as i watch alot of vids.
anyway this is the email i got back off asus
Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
My name is Jany and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.
We have been investigating the issue, there will be a new BIOS to be uploaded as soon as possible. Please wait patiently.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Cool, just have to wait it seems, Also the problem i have is with movies and also games, With SLI enabled games crash every 10-20mins and movies are unplayable, with SLI off movies look f***ed up sometimes and game dont seem to crash at all. so im not sure if its display drivers or bios or even both, guess I will find out soon :p:
You were right. I could watch videos without problems for hours. Though this time I did exactly the same thing you did at your video to replicate the problem. I installed Nero, then I started two videos. One with Nero and another one with media player. While changing between full screen and windowed mode and I got a crash. The video froze while in full screen mode without any lines or other kind of image corruption and only the mouse could move. The keyboard was dead. I pressed the power button but this didn't work. So I hard reset my PC.
Edit
Now I recall a couple of problems that might be related to this issue.
Google Earth, set in DirectX mode, crashes. In opengl mode it seems to be OK.
With firefox and lots of tabs open, video playback stops after a few seconds. The only way to watch a video is to turn firefox off and on again.
Can everyone with a striker2 formula please make a complaint about the video prob, use the link below, the more complaints they get the faster they are actually going to sort this issue out, thanks

already soon blocks on mosfets
Ok, new information here............
I got new ram from best buy. Not to keep but just to test if the issue was the ram. And it's not the ram at all. I put in a 2gig stick of corsair(not there best i might add). And i got into the bios and moved arround. It froze once, i rebooted put in the ram timings and saved. I checked the board temps. They read as follows 34,29,56,48. I made it to vista. things went well for 30-40 mins. i was just playing arround to see if it worked. I managed to hit windows update and update some stuff. and rebooted a few times. All seemed well. I believed it was the ram at that point. Till it froze again. I turned off the machine and opened the case. I felt the chipsets and they where hot. Like i didnt want my finger on there hot. I tried to get into the bios after letting it sit but never made it. I will try later but i wanted to see the temps. I know they must have been high. So i believe the issue is heat. NOW WHAT DO I DO? Cause i've got a stock setup. No overclocking. Also no fan on the chipsets. My CPU fan doesnt aim down at the board like most do, it aims sideways to cool off the massive heatsink. I've heard the is not ideal since a stock intel fan would aid at least a little in cooling the nearby chipset. Also i am wondering if the cheap non-artic silver compond might be bad and at this point degraded cause of the heat and that may have been the begining of my issues. If so do i rma the board of remove the heatsinks and replace with artic silver which i have. Did the heat cause permanant damage to the board? This i am wondering. I know that if i do remove the heatsinks i can't return the board. So if someone can reasure me the board isnt toast i will at least try to replace the heatsink compond.
I am wondering if the issue began when the cold weather went away. Cause it alway was very cool on the floor by the pc. It's been hot and humid here lately. Not like Florida weather but warm nonetheless. i felt i had good cooling on my case. and maybe i do, but maybe not for this board.
So is my board toast or do i can i still work work to fix it??????????
I don't remember; did you not replace the thermal paste? If not, then that was/is a big problem.
They will take a board back even if you remove and clean and add as5. I have one of my two boards RMA right now because I bent a spring pin in the socket. They said that was ok; they would still fix or replace it. As long as there isn't physical damage to the board, you are ok.
Here are grounds for not accepting for repair: http://support.asus.com/repair/repai...Language=en-us
I didnt replace the paste. I did put artic silver on the cpu/heatsink. I'm worried the chipsets are damaged. How would i test to see if they are fine?
Would the freezing be a way the board is keeping damge from being done? Or does it mean the damage is happening? And if i replace the compond do i wait overnite for it to set? or can i try it out right away?
You can use it right away. no waiting. If this is your problem, the freezing is because the chip is to hot to operate. It may or may not have damaged it. Just because it froze doesn't mean its bad, It also doesn't freeze to protect it from burning up. It freezes because it is to hot to operate.
Is there a bios that is known to keep the temps better for chipsets?
I'd say it is time to RMA...
Turn off your PSU. Install a 5cm fan on NB. Remove everything that is connected to your S2F. Keep the cpu, 1 mem stick, one video card the 8pin power cable the 24pin mobo cable the video card cable(s), the DVD cable (sata or IDE) and a PS2 keyboard. Check your Clear CMOS jumper to enable clear CMOS. Press the clear CMOS button on the back plate.
Power on your PSU. Enter BIOS, load setup defaults, change your boot device to your DVD, save and exit. Insert your Windows Vista DVD. Check one by one all your memory sticks with windows Vista memtest. You may access this by pressing tab after post. Four passes are enough. Choose one stick that gave you no errors. Now you may flash once again the latest BIOS and start checking each dimm with each mem slot. Then do the same with two dimms.
Remember that you should not enable mem SLI with four dimms. Avoid this anyway. In case you have 4GB of memory you have to increase the mem voltage to 2.1v and the Northbridge voltage at 1.3 with default timings (do not enable mem SLI expert) at 800 MHz.
X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro
doesnt look like it will fit the top pci-e 1x slot :( heatsink looks in the way
I also got some problems with this board. I just received my q9450 and the striker 2 formula. I cant even boot it. I tried 1 ram, 2 rams almost everything but it wont start up. It freeze allready at the ROG screen.
the bios of this board is 1303 when i received it. I have test the board with an old 3.4 cpu and no problem with it. Then i test the q9450 on my maximus formula and no problem. What the problem here ? Its not the rams, cuz ive just test
it with memtest and its ok. please help me
Sounds like your board doesnt wanna play nice with the q9450. Maybe a older bios would have better luck.
I do not think you can make it without an extra fan. At least you should be able to play crysis with default BIOS settings. If this is not the case with your mobo just return it to ASUS for a refund. All mobos have the same tricky BIOS and you won't get a better S2F after an RMA.
Check your stability with crysis. Prime95 is not enough. There are some stable BIOS settings that fit any CPU, but we have to find them ourselves. This shouldn't happen in case we are not overclocked and ASUS support won't help us..
In case you decide to keep this mobo and you are not stable at defaults, remember to increase the voltages for NB and VDimm, at least. This works in my case but you might consider increasing HT 1.2 and CPU gtlref as well. Try NB 1.36 and vdimm 2.1v. Leave the rest at auto. Good luck. If this doesn't work try Vdimm 2.1, HT 1.2 at 1.3, NB at 1.42 and CPU gtlref at +30.
Turn off your PSU, press the clear CMOS button, remove the battery and then try to boot to BIOS with only one dimm. Change dimms and memory slots and try again. You only need to enter the BIOS once. Just use a simple dimm (512 or 1GB).
Cheers for the link.
I have had the same problem before when watching vids, but it hasnt happened for a while so it hasnt been bothering me. I actually thought it was a bad OC that was doing it in the first place.
But i will put a ticket in about the problem now
And as for my NB cooling:
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/6...0221hc6.th.jpg
And this keeps the NB at a respectable 65deg:)
Try this. Load setup defaults Save and Exit. Then you may get a black screen. Push the start button for a few seconds to turn off your PC. Now enter again the BIOS and set Nortbridge (NB) at 1.42v and the Vdimm at 2.1v. Nothing else.
Your CPU is supported by all BIOS versions.
sigh, its not working. I can acces to the bios, but after a couple mins, it freeze. I only can acces the bios if a remove the cable from the psu for a couple of hours.
I think I need another bios. Iread the alot ppl got this problem with this version of bios. Whats the easiest and quickest way to flash the bios?
just downgrade it to 1202 but still freezes, sigh.............
whats kinda temperatures are you getting on the NB and SB? because from past experience I had a problem like this and it was because my motherboard was overheating and by resitting the heatsink on the motherboard it helped to fix this problem, so it might be worth quickly checking the temperatures in the bios and see if they are sky high, and that would be your problem.
I recommend cleaning and adding AS5 to the heatsink assembly on every new board. What Asus provided was of poor to terrible quality.
Easy to remove with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver, cleaned with acetone and Q-Tips, and addition of AS5 makes all the difference.
Kind of like the settings, this board is more of a do-it-yourself project than standard boards.
pffff, im gonna check it 2moz then (5am) and let u guys kno.
You shouldn't have all these problems. Why don't you return this mobo where you bought it and let them make it work?
You may also try ASUS support for this problem. It is the same link we saw a few posts earlier.
heres the link: http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techser...Language=en-us
im returning mine.
I cant install windows yet.
ive check in the bios, CPU= 39C NB = 70C SB = 55, after it hit 70c it freeze
Maybe i should do that :(
the link is not working
ive check in the bios, CPU= 39C NB = 70C SB = 55, after it hit 70c it freeze
ADD 60MM FAN TO NB
Tbh it would be quicker to resit the heatsink and add a fan to it, safe temps for the nb range from 55-62c, haven't seen anything lower than 55c so if you can get it lower, that would be great. But if you can keep the temps lower than 62c you shouldn't have any problems, reason its freezing is because the temperatures are getting to high and the motherboard cant take it, but if you do RMA it, it would still be best when you get a new board to resit the heatsink and remove the asus thermal paste and add your own thermal paste but make sure it isn't conductive(I use Ocz freeze and it isn't conductive) and also if your airflow isn't so great put a fan on the heatsink, that should help.
Edit: also a quick way of getting a new motherboard is to buy the same motherboard again and put your old one in the box and return it, but make sure yours looks new! xD
p.s very sleepy so hope it reads well :p:
Hahah sounds good. Thanks for the help guys, im gonna rma it for sure. Ill
let u guys kno if i receive the new board.
1) 30 minutes to pull the heatsink assembly, clean and apply AS5, and remount it
2) 6+ weeks for RMA
Temperatures of 70+ on a passive cooled northbridge are "normal" on this board. If possible, try cooling it with a fan.
I had to cool mine with a 80mm fan in order to get up to 450 or 500 FSB, if I'd run it passive it would just shutdown after a couple of minutes (hitting the 90+ protection on the NB isn't funny).
As already suggested; replacing the original white paste on the board with some better quality thermal paste (Like AS5) will usually drop the temperatures a bit as well.
I'm about to watercool one of my boards, simply because I have the feeling that it's not going to enjoy the high temperatures this summer.
About your CPU problem:
Have you tried bumping up the CPU PPL Voltage to 1.6V and the CPU VTT voltage to 1.30-1.40 yet?
(you might want to try and give the NB a bit more as well, but active cooling will definately be needed if you do)
I've got a Q9550 on my second striker II and the damn thing refused to boot or crash somewhere along the POST/BIOS or the OS load until I bumped up the voltages to 1.58V / 1.34V
It kind of annoys me that my quadcore needs the same PLL/VTT voltages to run @stock as my Dualcore needs to run at 500FSB.
Bios 1303 should work just fine for your CPU.
I can't recommend flashing your BIOS when your system is unstable, the last thing you want to do is kill the board by corrupting the BIOS at a possible crash.
Trying to remove the chipset heatsink and having issues. I've unscrewed the screws and pushed in the pushpins. seems like i need two people to get them out.
RMA takes a long time and you will probably end up with a same system.
I do not believe that your mobo is defective.
Either ask for a refund or try to make it work.
You just need to put a 5cm fan on the northbridge.
Install only 1GB dimm, enter BIOS, set NB volts at 1.36 and Dimm volts at 2.1. Install Windows, with all updates and the latest service pack.
Shut down. Now you may connect everything else.
I think this is going to work for you.
My NB idles at 68-70 with AS5 and a small fan. I havent had any issues. Not sure what it is under load but i can play any game for hours with no freezes/lockups or any issues to speak of. This is my most problem free gaming rig as of yet. Now that i took my ram fans off, i have a little more room to put a better fan on the NB. My point is....... 70c on the NB shouldn't be locking it up.
With regard to the video playback issue and those people who have email asus support about it, have you had any replies?
Because i email them a couple of days ago and they sent me through the 1305 bios. Has anyone else played with this and had any luck?
I already tried to contact Asus about two BIOS issues I'm having.
My RAID controller: The striker II refuses to boot from it (it work in all my other systems).
Putting a bootable DVD/CD as primairy boot and just letting it ignore that boot device and skip to the raid controller as secondary device works without a problem.
At the moment I'm booting from a bootable USB stick to avoid the problem.
All I want from Asus is a proper BIOS with the ability to boot from my Highpoint controller.
Akso contacted them about the corruption issues; watching a movie means I have to reboot the system and run everything on stock settings, the corruption happens less often for me that way. Watching a movie at overclocked settings means I'm getting corruption for sure as it seems to happen way more often at a higher FSB.
Asus did reply to message:
I don't have any issues with reading german, however, this site is mainly about laptops and contains a link to a site with all the asus drivers, so I don't really see the connection with my own problems. :shrug:Quote:
At this moment there is not an bios update available, please check the website at a regular base. If have another link for you with lots of information www.asustreiber.de.
So yeah, big :down::down: for Asus support there.
Asus didn't hook me up with the new BIOS but I'd be happy to test it if you could post a link to the BIOS (I checked the Asus FTP but the BIOS file can't be located there yet).Quote:

So feel free to have a go using this bios, as i am in the middle of exams and dont have enough spare time. I will be looking forward to see how you go with it if you give it a try. :)
As for the video playback issue, its the same for me that when I OC more and more the problem becomes more prominent :( My Q9550 doesnt like running at stock atm...
Cheers
i would give it a go but everytime i have flashed the bios on this mobo i have had problems with passing post, and the only way to solve it is to take the batt out for 5 mins. i really cant be arsed to do all that today, so if someone else who is having the vid playback prob givb this a try and let us know
Just updated the BIOS to 1305.
Resetting your CMOS and configuring all settings manually is required for proper operation. Right after the flash my system refused to boot @ OC settings, clearing CMOS and using my OC profiles also resulted in a system shutdown. I configured every setting manually again which resulted in a proper POST sequence.
Some nice things about this BIOS:
- NB/SB overheat protection went up to a variable setting from 80 - 110 degrees!
- The memory timings tab shows some additional info, possibly the SPD table, but mine seems a little messed up :p: (most likely due to the fact that I already had the system running at PC9600 speeds when I checked on the memory table)
When I booted Vista after the BIOS update it came up with a ton of new PCI-PCI bridges and all my PCI-e devices, so far, it's looking good.
Going to start a video marathon right now to check if the corruption bug has been fixed or not. I'll check back on the system in a couple of hours and report on it's status.
Can someone please simply post the 1305.zip here PLEASE!
RapidBullSh**Share cats. With two of us trying to see the *#^%*&% cats, we still didn't after like 12 tries, and maxed out tries trying to get the file. They could make it a little easier.
Thanks pmp :)
it fixed mine too, i just watched a whole film!!! wtf
Ineluctable : not to be avoided, changed, or resisted.
This 1305 BIOS just passed a 6 hour test of multiple videos.
I guess it's pretty safe to say that this BIOS fixes the corruption problems
This bios update with the new 177.26 drivers, rock, no crashes no lock ups everything running smoothly. But you do know what this means right PmP? :p:
ok so it's supposed to fix the dreadful video issue which I also have (not updated bios just yet)
it does not degrade overclockability of any kind I hope? I mean sometimes one must accept compromises "here" and accept improvements "there"
So those guys who tested the 1305 bios, did you test at default clock speeds or OCed?
Because if there was no video issues when the chip is OCed, then GREAT:D
Hopefully next week ill be updating my bios :)
I always run OC'd at 4050 for everyday use.
I note that it initially gets RAM better now, which will be better for intial new board startup, but when I set manual and let it do ram freq linked auto, it tried to set mine to 1680, so if I set it unlinked and set cpu freq, it sets ram to 1199. I can't get it to boot into win at 1200 MHz ram freq, only 1 mem hole lower, at 1170 MHz. Not a biggie. I have to try my top end OC still, 2040 freq..
were you guys getting problems with 1303? or another one, im not using my striker atm but when i start again should update to 1305 or am i fine with 1303?
So to add to my issues my pc now is stuck on cpu init and wont do anything else. Fans are running but no show. I stripped the rig apart and put it back together and still nothing.
my nb is 69 idle and my e8400 @3.6ghz, rams also overclocked that never caused me problem. anything i use about cooling is stock.so the heat isnt a problem with a stock cooling setup
i read the post about your problem
did you test your machine with windows xp 'cause ı had exactly the same problem with vista 64. then changed it to xp 32 (no headaches up to date)
only problem with this bios is that if you have a IDE dvd drive/hard drive you might have problems having IDE enabled in the bios, so im stuck with one less Dvd drive, but i can live with that, and my overclocking is fine everything stable
My IDE HP DVD840 LightScribe is working perfectly.
This bios acted different when it rebooted after the flash. Once it had powered off, I pressed the power switch, and it powered on for a sec and then off. I tried this three times, same thing happened each time. I then pressed the Clear CMOS button for three seconds, turned the PSU power off and then back on, and it powered up fine.
Remember, once you enter the bios first time, don't do anything. Just save and exit. Then when you enter it on the second go, change values as you desire.
So i am at a loss. Since i can't figure out what is wrong i will most likely take it to a shop to have them figure it out. I'm pleased with the new bios from what you all say. But not sure if the Striker 2 is something i wanna stick with. Just to much trouble for me. I might give the XFX MB-N780-ISH9 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI Intel Motherboard a try. Sounds like less issues. I'll decide when the guy tells me whats wrong with my rig.
Any one have a problem with the bios not saving settings? I've been trying to clock my Ram up to stock speeds (800 to 1066) and it wont save.
Remember, once you enter the bios first time, don't do anything. Just save and exit. Then when you enter it on the second go, change values as you desire, otherwise nothing will save.
It appears i have lost about 1000MB/s on Everest memory read. 11350 with 1303 to 10357 with 1305. Anybody else seeing any performance loss? Looks like I've lost a little memory performance on all of the everest memory tests. Its 4am here so ill test some more tomorrow.
Hey guys, I'm assembling a new PC and I'm looking for a mobo for my E8400. My first choice was the Striker II, but after reading through this topic, I don't know if I wanna get it anymore. What do you guys think? Should I go for the Striker or get another board? It's gonna be a brand new PC, so I wanna get something that will last at least a year or two.
My specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 8400
4GB 1066mhz Corsair Dominator (2x2)
Asus GeForce 8800GT TOP 700/2000
Gigabyte Odin All Solid GT 550W
If you do not intend to run SLI now get a P45 based mobo... way cheaper, less hassles, easier overclocks and to me way more reliable then any Nvidia chipset I've seen lately...
