Definitely Cellshocks pc2-8000 (4-4-4). Team pc2-9600. OCZ Flex XLC pc2-9200.
Crucial ballistix pc8000/8500/10thanniversary
G.Skill pc8000HZ, 8500HZ
Corsair - don't know which ones since i'm not too familiar with these
and a slew of other kits as well.
what do u guys think of the Gskill 2x1GB ddr2 800 HZ with micron D9 chips?
6400HZ's should be good as well but they won't be the highest binned since g.skill has the 8000HZ's and now the 8500HZ's. the 8000 and 8500 will get the highest binned of their D9 stock.
This is a tough question, there are so many decent kits out right now for great prices that it's difficult to nail down the top 5 kits! From my own experience (which is quite limited) I think one of the best kits out right now, especially because of price are Crucials Ballistix PC2-8000-PC2-8500 kits. Infact I'm in the process of trying to sell my Cellshocks to pick up the new PC2-8500 Ballistix!
As far as binning goes I'm pretty sure that Corsairs PC2-8888 kit is right up there. From what I have read their binning process (especialy on the Dominator series) is very involved! I don't know much about Cellshocks (MSC) binning process but their memory seems very consistant overall.
I also think the GSKIll F2-8000PHU2 and F2-8500PHU2 are very decent kits, highly binned to get chips capable of running at 1066Mhz @ 4-4-4-5! Last but not least I think (from people I've talked to and from reading) that TEAM puts in alot of effort binning their modules, at least their higher tier modules.
Warning: I'm not an expert, the above is just my opinion!
Godmyster,
I realized you asked shimmishim but both the GSkill PC2-8000HZ's and the PC2-8500HZ's have tighter timings than the PC2-6400HZ's do even though all three kits have the same CL value (CAS4). The PC2-6400 are rated for 4-4-4-12 and the other two kits are rated for 4-4-4-5.
Humm your right :) i just checked my list, so i can do more OC with the 8000HZ?
Thanks
Well that is a bit tougher to answer because all of these modules perform differently once you get beyond their rated speeds! There are many kits of the PC2-6400HZ clocking extremely well, especialy since their so cheap. The PC2-8000/PC2-8500 although rated at higher speeds with tighter timings doesn't mean they will clock higher than the PC2-6400's but there is a good chance they will since their binned higher from GSkill. Look at Crucial's Anniversary modules, their only rated for PC2-5300 but they routnely clock above 1200Mhz!
I might suggest getting the PC2-6400 modules over the PC2-8000/PC2-8500 because their cheaper and may overclock just as well? In either case you would probably be more than happy!
How much more of an o/c do you want on your mem? lol. 8000 is already ddr2-1000.
are you trying to set a WR, are you using a 7x chip?
for most people the ddr2-1000 should be more than enough.
like i said before, i got some crucial ballistix 8000's that i can run 5-3-3 @ 600mhz 32M with something like 2.3 to 2.35 volts.
for 24/7 use, i run them at stock ddr2-1000 with 4-4-4 timings with 2.13-2.15 volts.
Wr? humm maybe hehe, im just asking because i get amauzinge prices on all kits, probobly going for the 6400 then, little cheaper and i think ill be happy with them for sure, thanks for the help guys i apreciate it ;)
Hutch what is that, 8500? GMH I presume? I cant tell from the pic.
8500's module. I've been looking for reviews and came across a decent one finally. It's amazing how novice 95% of review sites are. Really pisses me off that they let idiots get free review samples! Just read a review on PC Freaks and geeks (aka PC Dipsh1ts and Dipsticks!) that refused to overclock them because they 'don't believe in overclocking!' THEY WERE COMPLAINING THAT THERE WAS NO VOLTAGE LABEL ON THE STICKS! OH MY GOD THEY ARE MADE FOR ENTHUSIASTS NOT CHUMPS!
Kemo, is this site yours? It's identical to your list, and if not yours it's clearly stolen.

the Ballistix PC8500 are only $204.99 on mwave and there's no rebate...

Only halfway decent review I've seen (reviewer wasn't a complete bonehead)
http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rid=137034
the pc 8500 ballistix are actually $199 unless you meant to link to the tracer model.

Who knows any good shops in Europe or American shops that sell to foreigners? (What is PGN where Realtelstar bought his stuff?)
I'm searching day and night for some DDR2 for my new system that I'd like to buy asap (with either a Gigabyte DS4 or Asus P5B DLX MB), but prizes in the Netherlands are so extremely high compared to those American shops. And they refuse to sell to foreigners.
I have about 150 euro to spend on some decent memory (or between 125 and 200). Which means any PC8... is far out of reach. The Ballistix offers (my dream) at either Mwave or Newegg would be exactly right:slobber: . But unfortunately, I don't live in the US and I don't know anyone living there who could order it for me.
So I'm now looking at PC6400 CL4. But even that is a problem, because I'd prefer to have some D9's. And I have the strong impression that many of the brands that have sticks with prices dropped under 200 euro are switching to alternatives like Elpida or Promos.
When I look in Germany, Adata Vitesta extreme PC6400 would be an option. But according to R00N's list they contain either Micron or Promos. Maybe I could find some Mushkin HP or G.Skill HZ. (They would cost somewhere 175-185 euro) But if it would be true that even they might be switching to other IC's for most of the cheaper PC6400...
So my last option is to go the savest way, the Ballistix PC5300. They are better than the PC6400 version and at least I would have some real D9. And they cost the same for 182 euro. Or in that case I could go for the PC5300 Tracers. (189 euro) Because Micron would never decrease the level of their own Ballistix, or....?
Why is it so difficult to sell sticks for those prizes over here in Europe? $200-250 for the best sticks, just amazing. We just need a Newegg or Mwave operating here. Or at least accepting foreign orders. It really hurts my eyes and makes me sad that in the US they sell the best of the best almost cheaper than the older PC5300 or PC6400 here. And then those rebates...
I've had a couple different pairs of Ballistix before and I had a question about the little number in the lower right-hand side of the actual IC? On my first 2GB kit of PC2-8000 Ballistix the number was "-2F" and it was the same on my second kit. Well does anyone know what the little number is or what it means? Obviously it's put there by Crucial (at least I think it is). I'm assuming it's got something to do with their in-house binning process? Thanks for any insight you guys might have!
Yes, it is. Crucial takes their own Micron ICs and bins them differently.
Whereas for instance normal D9GMH is 3 ns memory they use the following:
-2F indicates 2ns memory, equal to 500MHz (1000 ÷ 2) » PC2-8000.
-25F indicates 2.5ns memory, equal to 400MHz (1000 ÷ 2.5) » PC2-6400.
Generally, you will only find this type of marking on relabeled Ballistix ICs.
Then that means 1.8 = pc2-1111. Nice

Here is where i bought my 2 kits. They have excellent price on the other ballistix (until stocks last). And they ship to Europe.
When I was shopping for ram, in Europe I found some decent deals (decent for the EU overpriced market). I can post for your benefit:
1) OCZ Titanium alpha for about €190 shipped:
http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...45&cat=0&page=
2) A-data Vitesta WITH Micron D9 chips for 140+ship:
http://www.hpm-computer.de/assets/s2...elgoldxtc.html
(they may be picky in shipping to other EU countries if they have reached the "limit for vat -sounds like bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: to me, whatever). They were available last week when i looked at.
3) G.Skill HZ for 183+ship:
http://www.pctweaker.de/product_info...l-Kit-CL4.html
Lastly, there are a couple of ballistix kits on ebay from european sellers.
BTW, prices in the NL are generally on the low side compared to other european countries.
I was also looking at reviews yesterday and i'm very disappointed.
First of all, almost nobody overvolted them
Second, no ONE comparison with pc-8000 (I can only suspect that they clock the same).
This review is pretty decent, but it still lacks some detail and comparison with previews ballistix:
http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.p...0_2gb_ddr2_kit
Grazie per i link Telstar ;) !
Especially that PGN deal for the Ballistix is great, looks like my dream might become true after all then
I have a difference of opinion with my friend (who has cancelled his running order of Team PC6400 and will now join my order):
Is the quality of the Tracers less than the quality of the normal Ballistix? He doesnt want any Tracers because he believes they are not as good as the normal Ballistix. I'd prefer the tracers because I think they're exactly the same, just with some funny leds for a few bucks extra. I cannot imagine Micron would compromise the quality. But if he would be right and the Tracers are worse quality, I won't take them either. So if any of you could shine some light in this matter, I'd be very gratefull.
I mean the chip markings. At the time they didnt relabel micron chips, right?
The Annis should be -3 (micron labeling), picked for lowest possible timings (at the time).
I'm still a bit unsure of the Ballistix pc2-8500 performance... i may buy one kit just for testing it vs the 8000 :)
G.Skill DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) for $199
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231128
Confirmed GMH/GKX here.
Great find Istasi, before reading the thread you linked to I would have said they were Promos because of a review Enjoy did just a little while ago (same HK naming sceme)? But G.S. Technician is guarenteeing their GMH/GKX so great deal for $199!
Irev210,
Can't wait to get your opinion on these modules because I'm selling my Cellshocks to get them (hope I'm not making another bad desicion), lol! But as I've said before the Ballistix are by far the best modules I've ever used! I'm glad I asked about the "in-house" binning code on the modules, it's great to know that the new PC2-8500 Ballistix are indeed binned higher! Keep us posted Irev!
Sorry guys double posted, didn't mean to waste thread space!
Recently I have bought a pair of G.Skill 8000HZ in the oldest heatspreader:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...y/DSC00592.jpg
for my curiorsity, I opened it again:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...y/DSC00597.jpg
I wonder why my those chips inside is almost the same as hutch's ballistix:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...y/DSC00608.jpg
isn't that a G.Skill HZ???
but the no. on the chip shows -3F only?
that means it is a pair (1000/3)= 667 sticks?
and anyone know what's going on with this pair of HZ, good for OC?
whoa that's insanity that they're badged ballistix. hmm... but as for the -3, means it's gmh. no worries.
Because they are Crucial Ballistix. All G.Skill modules with a black PCB and old heatspreader are. The new ones are not.
That's because it initially was Ballistix PC5300 (DDR2-667). It still has D9GMH and a very good PCB though. Otherwise it wouldn't be PC2-8000 now.Quote:

It's 6 layers.
I'm looking to see either of the new 8500 modules tested here :)
Just take them off for better ventilation.

Interesting, I was under the impression that the PC2-8000 Ballistix were binned 2ns and the PC2-6400/PC2-5300 being binned as 3ns but GSkills rebadged Crucials 3ns modules for their PC2-8000? In the big picture is doesn't really matter as the PC2-5300 Ballistix are certainly capable of PC2-8000HZ's speeds (or at least this kit was), lol! I wish that my GSkill PC2-8000HZ's came as rebadged Ballistix isntead of the following,
http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/2...picszu9.th.jpg
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/8...shotee1.th.jpg
Don't get me wrong their still decently binned GMH but I just have a thing for the Ballistix PCB's (black just looks better despite having no bearing on performance), lol!
By the way Stephen when did you buy these modules and where did you get them (if you dont' mind me asking)?
Are all 5300 ballistix micron d9?
Yes.
- PC2-8000 2.0ns
- PC2-6400 2.5ns
- PC2-5300 3.0ns
Yes. In fact, all Ballistix are Micron D9, but remember that 'D9' only means it's Micron DDR2.
It doesn't tell you anything regarding overclockability, unless you know the remaining three letters behind D9, but most will be D9GMH.
I got a pair of 6400 just got the same chips you own on the 8000:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1.../DSC00513a.jpg
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...y/DSC00521.jpg
around the same manufurturing cycle as your 8000 also, you can tell from the heatspreader.
and also have a pair of 6400 black version:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...y/DSC00532.jpg
which use the exactly same GMH chips on your 8000 and my green 6400, except the PCB is balck.
but my first pair was quite impressive, even on GCT only:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...y/IMG_9319.jpg
and all of my modules are from Hong Kong retail shops
My ballistix tracer pc2-8500 are marked with -18f too :). just got them in the mail.
rOOn,
Thanks for the verification, much apprecaited. In general is using other companies PCB/IC a common practice like in the case above (stephens GSkill 8000HZ's using Crucial's 5300 Ballistixs)? Or is this more of an exception that happens when a company is low on decent IC's, just curious?
stephen,
So you have two (2 x 1GB) kits of GSkills PC2-6400 modules (1x with GCT and 1x kit using GMH) as well as a (2 x 1GB) kit of GSkills PC2-8000HZ's running the PC2-5300 Ballistix IC/PCB right? Man you have alot of memory kicking around! Out of all three kits which one clocks best (if you have had the time to test yet)? I would assume the PC2-8000HZ's running the PC2-5300 Ballistix IC/PCB?
TeRm,
I second that nicepun said, get your butt in gear buddy and show us some results, lol! Plus if your up for it pull the spreaders off and give us some pictures please (we would all be greatful, especially since I'm activly trying to get a kit myself)! Just like rOOn said your IC's are -1.8ns!
nicepun,
So have you gotten any closer to getting your kit of PC2-8500 Ballistix yet? Thankfully newegg has a bunch in stock (or did just 2 days ago) because it might take a week or more for my current modules to sell!
Hey guys ,,, i am back ,,, will be posting soon enough :)
that is awesome, get us some results, i won't get mine until monday, so i would like to get some joy through your results as if they were my own.
and how are you guys taking off the heat spreaders? is it really easy to do? do you use something to heat up the adhesive and then just pull them off?
Waiting for tests :)

I think those GCT bin higher than both GMH's stick, it clocks higher also in lower clock, those GMHs I can go 530 max only, but the GCt can go up to 580CL4 and 610 CL5.
haven't tried the 8000HZ yet, but you can take a look at coolaler's review:

Yeah this mwave place has awesome prices on the whole Ballistix lineup but has anyone ever purchased anything from them before and if so what was your experience like? I know many people won't agree with me but I'd rather spend a few extra dollars at a extremely reputable place like newegg than save a few bucks ordering from a place I know nothing about (to many horror stories from doing this)! By the way thanks stephen for letting me know about your modules and also for posting those links. I had my kit not too long ago but overall wasn't very impressed so I returned them for refund, with that said I think there are many others who have had awesome results with the PC2-8000HZ's!
Mwave is a very good reseller. I've purchased from them at least 3 times and didn't have a single problem.
i got a bunch of cool tests coming soon
the new gskill 8500HK's (d9gmh/d9gkx)
I just got a new set of ballistix 8500 in today :)
and, the old and trusted ballistix 8000 to compare!
good times
i agree, just got a box from mwave yesterday, already ordered from them a few times and they are legit. I bought the ballistix 8500 from priceguidenetwork however since i didn't want to pay $15 in tax alone, so pgn had it for $211 shipped to me.
shouldn't you be testing them and not playing around on the forums :nono:
@Stephen23
Thanks for your post on the G.Skill HZ's.
I just received my replacement 6400 HZ's and noticed the PCB was black and I was sure the dead ones (RMA'd) were green.
Unfortunately I can't push them very far due to CPU cooling issues (good ducted TTBT air setup, good general air flow, but no RAM cooling) but given that the temp in my office has dropped by about 7c, I could try to push them a little further than their current 1:1 438 4-4-4-12 2.1v (suggestions welcome ;)).
I'm still a little unsure which are/were better; the original Green PCB version or the replacement Black PCB version?
Cheers
My Crucial Ballistix 8500 sticks are getting here on Monday!!
i have some thing to say ,,, be patient guys about yours 8500s kits because it will smoke any memory kit you know even those 600$ kits
+ there is some GKX floating around in those kits ,,, if not all of them
Got my 8000s. testing next week
i have 2 sets of 8500 Crucial Ballistix all 4 are d9ghm and i did a lil bin of the sticks to get this also thats 2.2v under load
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i5...890/wowO-o.jpg
lol. i couldn't resist. got me a kit of 8500's as well.
so i now have the 10th anni's, 8000's and 8500's (tracers). :)
guess i should do a review
Irev210,
Come on man, let the cat out of the bag and give us some information! Now I'm really excited about this new stuff!
Kemo,
Have you tested any of these kits yet? Plus I'm curious to how do you know that come kits are maybe running GKX (your getting my hopes up), lol! Thanks man!
I hear good things about 8500 ;). I wish i had a cpu to test mine right now.
Ballistix pc2-8000 131$ after rebate from mwave. Will it ever stop?
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec....2&RSKU=BA23792
holy.... that's crazy! i paid $199 for mine :(
now it's $130!!! sheesh
I can tell you black and green PCB are the same as I have tested on both of them unless you got the ballistix one like my 8000 HZ
there is a "levin" wording at the end of the PCB for the ballistix one like my 8000 HZ.
This pic is normal 6400 HZ that I got both green and black PCB:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...y/DSC00531.jpg
which don't have "Levin" on it
both performs the same.
this pic is the 8000HZ that I got:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...y/DSC00620.jpg
which got thr "levin" on it:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...y/DSC00596.jpg
This pair ROCKS as it is ballistix actually.
I am having some issues with my commando, so results are taking a bit
here is another sneak peek :)
http://www.importjdm.com/shipped/ballistix_8500.jpg
Well I'll be damned, Kemo was right again! GKX baby, alright who wants my RAM, lol! Thanks Irev for giving us all a sneak preview, much appreciated! What is interesting is that Momo over at Guru3D got two kits which are both GMH (no big deal, both very high-bin from results)! We're eagerely awaiting your results whenever you get to them Irev!
Nice although ive had more luck with GMH then GKX so far it seems. Stil searching for a kit that does 32M 600mhz at cas4 on 965 chipset, hope this wil be the one.
loc.o. your Celly's won't do CAS4 @ 1200Mhz? What are your max clocks @ CAS4 with them? I've been testing mine all day (GKX) and can't even get through 1M at 1150Mhz @ 4-4-4-12? I am very stable though at 1140Mhz at same timings which is pretty decent I guess. Like you I've also had better luck with GMH, my last kit of Ballistix (8000's) were stable at 1150Mhz @ 4-4-4-5 on 2.35v (but of course sold them like an idiot), lol!
