Avoid using clarity, at least not without masks, because it increases noise a lot.
For sharpening use the "High Pass" sharpening method a few times ( duplicate layer, desaturate, apply high pass filter, set layer mode to overlay, adjust opacity, merge layers, repeat steps to increase the effect )
Thanks man, glad you like it :)

Need moar ( faster ) shutter speed.
Turn VC off.
Make sure to keep your shutter speed at least 1/effective focal length, which is 1/480s ( focal length @ lens 300mm = 480mm due to 1.6x crop sensor ).
1/480s speed would ensure ( unless you have parkinson's :p: ) that you won't have camera shake caused blur ( shaky hands :D ).
Then, you'll also need to make your shutter speed good enough to freeze the motion of the birds, that depends on the bird and their flying speed, etc.
Usually 1/640s is good enough to freeze big birds.

I'm aware of that, I was on full manual and was not expecting them to take off. The two were perched with their wings spread on top of a nearby roof, which is how I was planning to shoot them. That was a lucky/unlucky accident, they'd been perched long enough for me to see them, watch them for a minute, go in and find my camera, get change lenses and get my exposure correct. As chance would have it, the second I have my camera pointed at them they decide to take off. The only reason I did anything with that picture is I really like the framing with the wings pointing into opposing corners. Had I expected them to take off I would have gone for 1/1000 at a higher ISO. Ah well, such is life :D
Reminds me of my first spontaneous moon picture:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...20DSC_1137.jpg
I was kind of surprised how fast the moon moved, so I didn't have much time until I could no longer catch it from the balcony. Also just 200mm on full frame is not long enough. Next time I want to rent a D7100 along with a 600mm lens in order to get some decent shots. Just not sure when and where >_<
I am very much stranded right now, so I didn't take many new pictures, unfortunately. Probably this one is worth showing:

Shame, my timing was super bad with those shadows. Will try to hike there very early in the morning or at sundown.
Edit: Looking at the picture now, I think I selected the wrong one. This one doesn't seem to be very sharp and the sky is overexposed. Well, never mind, then, I better take some new pics ^^
Not a milky way (I'm trying I swear!) but some serendipity that came up

Alone in the Dark by Jonathan Horne, on Flickr
Canon 600D + Canon 18-55mm zoom, 1/100, f/4, ISO 100
I went for a bit of a creepy, not-quite-sure-if-you're-alone look. This was shot outside a public school at night. It was a moonless night with the sound of the wind rushing through the valley, yet the air was still in the immediate vicinity. It was an unusually quiet night, without even the usual sound of distant traffic or frogs. I hope the picture portrays just how creepy it felt to be there, I was constantly looking over my shoulder even though I was sure I was alone.
Furthermore, opposite the school is open bush leading up the hillside to Peer's Cave, an ancient burial ground. With Fish Hoek being the witchcraft capital of South Africa, the chants of practitioners can be heard emanating from the cave and piercing the air every full moon between around 23:00 and 02:00. Knowing that I was a few hundred meters away from this location adds to the spooky feeling.
Lovely pic neo :)

It does, but you have to scroll down now, rather than it being beside the photo. I preferred it the old way too, but have gotten used to it this way. 500px is kind-of a pain, at least it was when I last tried to use them. It's blocked at work, so I don't use it regardless.
Something black & white for today.

Huh? I still see camera and lens settings. I know I had to explicitly enable that for this latest view, but they should be there. I keep wanting to be done with them, but nothing else comes close for the price :/

Still no camera/lens/settings detail shown for me, maybe I'm special...............
But as you say, the price is right, but I'm getting to the point where I am looking for an alternative, even if it costs a few pennies more ;)

Thank you. Great landing shot!
Fall is flying by and it's so dry here, the leaves seem to be taking a turbo path right off the trees; at least relative to the time I have to go try and capture them.
Thus I found myself in the woods with my camera while the kiddo was on the playground, trying in vain to get good photos in decent lighting that was lighting very little of interest (in addition to a challenge of shooting only with the nifty fifty, which felt needlessly constrained...I need more prime practice!). Anywho, here are two that turned out ok.
