Solitaire loads phenomenally fast at 4GHz
So I am trying one of these out and I am running into all types of problems. First was that I could not use the settings I was using on my EVGA to overclock on the Extreme. I figured I could do something, but nada, so obviously I am missing something simple. The second was a bigger surprise, I cannot get my Dominators to run on the Gigibyte at all, even at default settings. These are the 1600 from Newegg without a single negative post. Like I said, I tried running them with everything set to default and it would BSOD half way into boot up of Windows. I tried selecting "Set timings by Profile" and by "SPD" but neither of those worked.
So I come asking for suggestions. I am in the process of reinstalling my EVGA to check out my memory to make sure that's not the issue and then I will reinstall the Gigabyte. It's time consuming, but I need to make sure that the ram is ok, otherwise back to Newegg I go.
Thanks
here is a beta BIOS, F6B of GA-EX58-Extreme, and this BIOS could
fix overclcoking with S3 feature, if not work on you, please reply on this thread.

I am speaking with one of my contacts at Gigabyte, and the BIOS engineers need everyone here to chime in about the Extreme BIOS's, and UD5 As well if you like.
The engineer's would like to know for sure, S3 is working in the F5g correct? If so, or not, which all does it work properly in?
Overclocked reply's are only what they are interested in as S3 normally works just fine at stock clocks.
And which Fix the Boot issues? F6a does correct? As Hicookie says above as well F6b results would also be much appreciated too.
I tried to sum it all up from what I read here and at TweakTown, but I see so many posts here and there, and elsewhere I often get lost on which works for what issues.
A quick Summary for all BIOS's of what works in which and what does not work in which for which boards would be great, from as many users who can reply. Thanks!
F6a gives me BSOD on the UD5, I went back to F5g...
Do you mean for S3 sleep on the F6a you get BSOD?
Just wanted to be sure as the engineers think they may have narrowed it down but would like to know for sure if it was F5g that it worked properly on as that is the one I told them I believed to be reported that it does work on
Ahh well all BIOS's will most often be different and you may always need to adjust something differently then a previous BIOS. So you should not expect to always be able to use the same exact settings on different BIOS's.
So you are using F5g now? If so, can you please test and report back if S3 works for you
Ahh, I dont know about Linux Myself. But S3 is the issue we need some answers on.
Linux wont use S3?
I'm running AHCI on my setup. I was tempted to change over to the IDE emulation just because the extra 15 seconds at boot pisses me off; but I have read that these WD Velociraptors will perform better with AHCI so I stuck with it.
I was having issues with my external WD ESATA drive randomly powering down and needing a restart to be detected again, but taking it off the JMicron port and using one of the Intel ports seems to have fixed that problem.
S3 works for me on bios F5e for the UD5
F6a has no double cold boot, but S3 and hibernate are broken
i was using AHCI, but swapped back to IDE because the extra boot time annoyed me when testing and rebooting a lot
f5g s3 didnt work for me it would hang an was trouble trying to get back into windows,f6a it was hit or miss with the s3 but f6a didnt like any of my overclocks even though it did allow easytune 6 to finally work for me lol,so f5g it is for me ,i like my clocks better then s3 lol
Just tried F6b on the extreme & S3 still no good.
Hi hicookie,
BIOS F6b for Extreme I posted 2 days ago on TT Forum (BIOS dated 19.02.09).
Did you mod this BIOS?
Edit:
just check with "awdbedit" and release date is same.
Just to confirm that for F5g, S3 works okay with optimised defaults. It does not work with my overclock on the same bios. E1 shows on the LED on the MB. The machine starts but does not do anything else.
The C1, C3, C5 modes do not seem to work with O/C. With optimised defaults the volts are lowered at idle and raised on load. With O/C the volts are high at idle (1.392) and low on Prime 95 (1.376).
Also noticed that only 2 cores are shown with optimised defaults?
Tried F6b and my overclock works okay with same settings. S3 does not work with overclock. Did not try optimised defaults.
I have talking to every one.
No i meaning the North bridge cooler. I having the X58 UD5. But with stock NB cooling a single large PCI-EXPRESS 1 SPEED won`t fitt, also a SMALLER PCI-EXPRESS 1 speed won`t fitt because the North bridge cooler is to high.
So i want to buying that MIPS Triple POM Watercooling block.
So then my question is:
If i using that waterblock, does ALL PCI-EXPRESS 1 SPEED CARDS fitt in the
ABOVE WHITE PCI-EXPRESS 1 SPEED SLOT? I want to use the above Slot or SLOT 1.
I hope you guys now knowing what i tried to tell.:p:

what is the max 24/7 that one could set the qpi/vtt volts?
This is what I thought, but often I see people here with the QPI/VTT above 1.40 for speeds above 4.0ghz. I wanted to know if 1.41v QPI/VTT & a Vcore of 1.40v is safe for 24/7 use for 4.2 ghz.
My new 3841A554 is 20 run linkpack & 8 hrs prime64bit stable @4158 with a Vcore of 1.35v & QPI/VTT 1.335v at but for 4.2 I need 1.41v QPI/VTT & Vcore of 1.40v load. temps are prime 67c linkpack 84c.
Should I go for it ?
meh you wont notice the difference in speed, that being said I would probably do it ;) this is xtreme right?
