When does it lock up exactly?

Every CPU is different, but, to be direct, a CPU with a lower default VID tends to require less voltage for 5 ghz, but runs hotter as a result. The "leaky chip" phenomeon was shown back in the X58 and Core 2 days. A higher VID chip runs cooler on average but usually needs more vcore. It goes without saying that the low vid hot chips are the ones that benefit best from extreme cooling.
Exactly right, plus I would like to add that the high vid chips seem to clock higher in my experience on water or better.
Hey!I have a 2500K coming on Monday 3135B793..Any info on o/c?

Nice low voltage 4.8ghz 4c8t over clock.
Hey why are you running CL8 when your ram is CL7 on XMP?
BTW it's Sandy Bridge not Sandy Bell in your signature.
Is Sandy Bell (like in animated story)... :)
Yes Cas 7 mem keeped at cas 8, at 1,52 Vdram, for perfect stability of cas 7, need more than 1,63 Vdram, no needed...
Cas 7 or cas 8, is inobservable for 24/7 using, or gaming.
OK, so I was bored yesterday and decided to try the above. I figured I would post this just for more info on this batch #...

I tried 57x and could not boot into Windows, doesn't get past post. Is it worth upping the vcore to like 1.58 to see if 57x flies?
Not really going to use this CPU that high as I don't have the proper cooling, but was curious as to my max multi.
Thanks! I'll try 56x102 this weekend. Like I said, I don't have proper cooling to run it at full 4C/8T at those speeds, but that maybe someone else might want to take it off my hands :)
Guys, what the heck does this mean?

I set multi to 57x with reduced BCLK and snapped a screenshot while finishing a 1MB prime run and cpuz is showing 59x .....
Edit: I kept playing with it and got it to 59x set in Windows ... wtf ... it wouldnt do this with single stage on my M4E but loves my P8Z68-V pro gaming mobo on water ..... its possible I guess ...

Weird.
I bought a 2600K L145B654, VID is skipping .98 - 1.3xxx depending on CPU usage. Can do 52x, but heat is my enemy now. Even an H70 can't keep it down!
Looks like a decent chip aussie  If you want to check for max multi dont "trick" the CPU by using less then 100 bclk. Try and find out what multi it maxes out with @ 100 bclk and work up from there adjusting the bclk.
Been a while since I posted here but got a 2500k and without any effort at all, ie going outside into a cold shed and rebooting and jumpering constantly into the wee hours, I have managed to get it aircooled up to 5.1Ghz with 1.34v in under 2 hours.
Are all these chips like this? What is the normal frequency cap for this chip on air with less than 1.5v?
Andy
Most of the 2500/2600K chips can run much higher then spec though not as many numbers like the older batches. I just tested two 2700K in the past week and they are pretty decent. One will do 55 multi at 1.50v and the other is just 52 but at 1.42v. Both chips where tested in my torture rack with remote water loops and killa hardware which makes it pretty easy. Both chips also run cool for mid number vid compared to some of my 2600Ks.
Hey, yeah I know it's "tricking" it but I have tried lowering bclk to get a higher multi (as I see many here do) but all previous attempts at this have been lucky to get one multi higher so surely this is odd. This chip gets 57x under single stage and can bclk up with 56x multi up to its max validation of 5812. I can't get it to boot at 55x with 1.55v on water but you can up the multi to 59 as shown. It's for sale anyway so I can grab another that clocks better on water.
Ivy is getting closer so I don't even know if I should be buying any more sandy chips
:D
aussie-revhead your chip is good can do X59 multi
I just picked up an i5 2500k. Do all these have the same s-spec of sr008?
The batch number showing on it is # 3151B188
Also got a P8P67 PRO
It will be watercooled. I will get it fired up in the next couple days and see what it will do:D
@ aussie
great job is that my old chip?
x59 is awesome however it is weird that it wii not boot that under cold with bclk set to 100.
Yeah it's your chip and yes it's odd indeed, I think my single stage isn't cold enough so someone with better cooling may have better luck. The more I mess with this M4E the more I'm beginning to think it had issues but I'm not about to buy another one to find out, I will wait and see what happens with Ivy,z77 and Kepler.
Thanks.
:)

First boot in windows 5.0GHz with 1.31V 4C/8T

Boot in windows 4C/8T up to 5.6GHz

After that turned off HT, two cores and boot in windows 5.8GHz 1.64V

59x past bios post but freeze at win 7 loading screen so I'm sure it is 59x chip but can't boot in windows 5.9GHz on air so I will try with bclk to get me few mhz more for amazing cpu-z validation on air... I'm in love with this chip...
