It should be as big as possible of course.

The HR-05 and HR-05 Sli both fit on this board. The thermalright website assumes that since the board comes with a heatpipe setup your not going to be able to take it apart. Search this thread, removing the stock nb heatpipe was discussed months ago.

Qx6700 or Quad anything for that matter doesnt play well with this board. Waiting for a bios might sound like a good idea but take it from others like me that waited for a decent bios for c2d and it never came.

Air tec = crap They are overpriced and dont really give you more ocing headroom.
Tecs are inefficient, air or water. Go with air, water, or phase.

The ocz gold ram isnt really what you want for ocing the heatspreaders may say go but they should be considered valueram.

Ok, I've ordered an HR-05 NB cooler(Cooler Guys $24.29 total), I'll just have to get the NB pipe up off the heatsink in the back, In any case I'll have to remove the motherboard to do this, Oh yeah real fun. :D

Well I'm stuck with the ram, As to the TEC, Considering what I use the computers for they do pretty well, Replacing them isn't option right now anyway, I'm not crazy about water and can't afford phase change, Straight Air is and can be noisy to cool really good, Oh My P5W It's 38C at full load running Seti @ 100% @ 3.38GHz on all 4 cores and the TEC does very good there, plus It's less noisy than an xp-120 with a 220cfm 120mm fan(I have one). Oh and at the speeds I go I've never found Prime95 to always want to run, On the quads since I have a new Gigabyte motherboard on the way(see sig), It should have a mature Bios since It's been out for a longer period(their up to 10). I'll attach the HR-05 to the AW9D-MAX and put It in another case while It waits for a cpu. :D

Monday i recieved new OCZ Ti Alpha PC8000 memory. The system wouldnt boot. I had to put the dimms in socket 2 and 4. I can't run 1:1 3-3-3-8 @ DDR800. Now i am testing 4-3-3-4-20 1:1 DDR800.
The system is 9 hours orthos stable. Very good performance :banana:

I found out that the Aw9d-max cannot run DDR1000 4:5 4-4-4-15. I already updated my SPD wich was very old. (Thanks to RyderOCZ). To bad.
The Ti Alpha is Micron D9GMH..............

Does anybody run DDR1000 4:5 4-4-4-15 with this board ?
Is there a new bios on the way wich resolves memory issues and takes away the 438 fsb wall ? I cannot go over the 8 or 9 * 438. At 439 the system will not boot. At 8*438 the system is rock solid. There must be a NB FSB wall.

There are i975 boards that can do DDR 1000 with 4-4-4-15 timings, like the P5WDH deluxe..

I would really like a new bios with more memory tweaks and voltage control like DDR2 VTT, CPU VTT and NB VTT. These options bring great oc results to many other boards.

Yes, there is no way around that, use a higher multiplier on the two cores, or use the boot.ini switch to turn off two cores. Why you are running 800 mhz, I have no clue, that is just wrong. Run 1066 or 1333. And again, your ram isnt good, so it will take alot of tweaking on memset to get it working well.

So what? OCZ Gold isnt an overclockers module, it isnt going to run what you want it to do on a board that can only run tight as crap settings.

Nothing has changed,
1) ditch the crappy TEC cooler, it isnt good. A yate-loon on a Big Typhoon would cool better.
2) get a Swiftec MCX-119 for the NB
3) get rid of the crappy ram, or take the time to use memset to tweak around it
4) learn what the bios settings actually do, dont just run things "because some random told me to"

The AW9D isnt an easy board to clock well, and starting with a Quadcore and non-micron is going to make it alot harder on you. Just give it some time and you will reap the rewards.

I initially had only minimal success with my FX60, only getting ~2950 on air.. With a proper remount(just learning how to mount well on a ihs-less cpu) I benched @ 3100 mhz on air :)
Document what settings you try, and what results they give you, and you should have more success.

The front panel readout is not software, It's hardware and has no connection to any OS as It would run with No OS.

1066 just rebooted before, I'll try It once again, 1333 is not availble on 1.3 final, Just on Alphas and Betas.

Getting rid of the ram as I said isn't exactly something I'm able to do yet, A good portion of My check is taken out by SSA for another 8 months(85.60), So I don't have much left(770.40 per month) and I've sold most of the old extra hardware too.

I did buy a Thermalright HR-05 for use on the AW9D-MAX, I'm waiting for It now.

I do know enough about the Bios, I have 3 other overclocked PCs, I may be disabled, But I'm not stupid.

Currently I'm thinking I also need a bigger psu than the OCZ 700w psu I have in PC4 now and I have to save up for It, I could use a 750w toughpower that I have for a bit.

Here's a shot of My settings, I'd had It on 1066 for more than 24 hours, these are a bit faster, I'd go 2:3 or 4:5, But not until the HR-05 is installed, I.75 is ther until the HR-05 is installed too.

My board refused to run DDR1000 no matter the volts, timings, or divider.

The same ram runs DDR1000 cas4 on my commando.

Some crap, Anandtech says crap beats Tuniq Tower, Vigor Monsoon II doesn't produce condensation or excessive amounts of heat, So You and a few others don't know what Your talkin about. Except for PC2, All My PCs have Vigor Monsoon II coolers in them and PC1 is overclocked by 40.73%(Vigor Monsoon II hardware panel temp 50C) and has been runnin very fast 24/7 for days and PC4 is now overclocked by 25.93%(Vigor Monsoon II hardware panel temp 42C) as One core is at 3.37GHz and the other is at 2.70GHz due to a Bios problem, On the Asus all 4 cores are runnin at 3.38GHz and have been for Days on end. I'm out producing the top member of the Team I'm on(SOFM on the PC Perspective Killer Frogs) and He has over 4 million produced, I only have 1.1 million and climbing, His(SOFM) weekly average right now is 6712.7, Mine is 8775.4 and I only have 4 PCs and His are Hidden. I crunch numbers and so playin PC games is not a priority, My PC1s QX6700 is doing pretty good, For medium priced ram OCZ PC-8000 Gold xtc 5-6-6-15(currently at 4-4-4-10-43[PC1] and 4-4-4-15-43[PC4]). If I had money for more expensive ram I'm sure It could do better, But I don't have the $1,000.00 to spare, I have to spend $916.00 on A/C for My Manufactured House on the 13th as the house has no other way to keep It cool in here(The house has only two windows with screens, the rest are screwed shut) and attend My Nephews wedding in Redlands, I get to drive My 2006 Mustang GT there. I do have most of the parts for a 5th PC, I just lack a cpu and for the moment It's not a big deal.

I have a question for you fellow AW9D users. Do you guys have to boot below 400 FSB set in bios and then raise the FSB in windows via the uGURU software? I have the AW9D NON-MAX version and the board can't boot at all from 400 and above set in bios but if I boot at say 390 FSB I can then raise the FSB to 460 in windows using uGURU...normal for this board??

edit: Forgot to mention I tried all the different beta and official bios's with very similiar results.

System specs are,

-x6800
-AW9D non-MAX
-2gb oem Micron D9
-7900GS
-Liberty 620w

Fellas, I got a problem for the electronic geniuses on this thread. My RMA'ed board came in Friday. I set it up and went straight to bios and checked the voltages... guess what? CPU VTT voltage was at 1.45 (it should be 1.2v). I was elated because this meant I didn't have to do a vfsb mod. Here is the catch, however; for whatever reason, whenever I raise the vmch voltage in bios, CPU VTT voltage rises by the same margin. So, eg. vmch @ 1.80v = 1.75v for CPU VTT since the stock vmch voltage is 1.5v. Now this shouldn't be a problem for high fsb since I could drop my multiplier and even utilize the 333 strap. However, everytime I boot into windows above the CPU VTT voltage of 1.45v (its highest rated voltage), uguru goes nuts and windows freezes a few seconds later. This happens even if I turn of voltage monitoring for vmch/CPU VTT.

What does all these mean? I can't overclock above 3.50GHz stable since I need the vmch to make anything above this number stable. Raising the vmch takes the CPU VTT above high spec and even though computer boots fine even at 4.GHz, it immediately freezes during windows boot. I run multiple partitions and this happens on all of them.

What now? Unless some of you geniuses could tell me what exactly is wrong here, my conclusion is that Abit is trying to regulate overclocks on the board to prevent too many RMAs.

If the above is the case, how would they go about this? Obviously, somewhere on the board, the engineers have found a way to unify the voltage regulator for both vmch and CPU VTT. What do you fellas think? Regards.

I'd uninstall the uguru software, I had It on mine and the minute It saw My cpu temps at 3.36GHz, It proceeded to shut down My AW9D-MAX PC, To get My PC working again I had to go into safe mode and uninstall It. Now I have no problems and the PC purrs along like a cat 24/7. :)

are you sure your cpu isnt reaching max temp of 85c on the AIR COOLED TEC ;)

Thanks for the input. I don't have heat problems; besides the option to shutdown the PC at a certain temp can be turned off in the bios. The problem I am having is lockups above a certain frequency due to lack of vmch or over-voltage on the CPU VTT if I up the voltage on the vmch to suit the overclock.

No It's not..... Why? It runs 24/7 with a reboot from time to time cause 2:3 isn't working with My DDR2 1000 ram correctly as I think the NB may be overheating(New heatsink should fix that), At 1:1 I don't get any reboots(I've exchanged sticks that did 2:3 in My Asus P5W DH Deluxe and It still reboots at 2:3). Soon enough as I can I'm moving the QX6700 cpu to a more quad core compatible Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 motherboard that has all 4 cores running at 3.36GHz(solid caps, No electrolytic types) and installing an x6800 or some cheaper Core 2 Duo in the AW9D-MAX(Depends on what happens in the next 8 hours). I'm also waiting for two NB heatsinks, One is a Thermalright HR-05 for the GA-965P-DS3 and the other is a Noctua NC-U6 Dual Heat Pipe Chipset Northbridge Cooler for the AW9D-MAX, that and two 70mm delta fans(one each). :D Then I'll make the swap and upgrades.

Check the TEC section of the forums, you will see countless posts on the vigor and its absolute inability to cool processors especially high heat ones with any better results than the stock cooler. The TEC acts as a heat insulator. I'm not trying to slam you bro, do your research and you will see. :)

Do not ever link to some Anandtech crap in response to me, your AIR + QUADCORE + TEC is complete crap, it isn't any good. No one here is ASKING you about your opinion, we know how TECs work and what they are capable of.

The X6800 does this because it seems to use the 11x multi for a split second before lowering it. That is, it sets FSB before lowering multiplier. You'll find that you end up with the same bootable FSB no matter what multiplier you pick.

This seems to happen on every i975x board. 965 and others I have no idea.

Thanks guys!! Just the answer I was looking for.:)

EDIT: I would like to add something to my original post. After booting up 390FSB and setting a max 441ish FSB in windows with uGURU, if I restart from windows the computers boots up with the FSB I set in uGURU(441) and then once in windows I can go even further with the FSB to 460. Just thought someone in the same situation as me would like to know that.

Only if the TEC didn't have power and the TEC certainly has power. If It didn't My P5W DH Deluxe would also reboot, the P5W doesn't reboot and is as stable as a rock. The P5W has better cooling of It's northbridge chip.

you're asking a 50watt tec to move 200watts of heat, with a low heat processor that cooler may work well, but as you scale in heat output it cannot keep up, especially kents... I'm trying to help you not possibly burn your processor, and moreso possibly stop your cpu from throttling. 6000 seti pts a week is good but consider my kent put out 3k - 4k pts/day @ 60C in coretemp
