Hmm what would clock better though... 144 CAB2E's or 146 CABYE'S?
Where're you getting the CAB2E? I've not heard of this particular stepping, but then again I've been a bit out of the loop...Quote:

Awesome...I'll be getting mine tomorrow, then. :DQuote:

also, looks like i've gotta try to find a CAB2E now :p:
We all know that it's not possible to translate AMD's TDP into real world numbers. First of all, AMD stress them in a very hard way, more than Intel. But that's not all, since the introduction of K8 there has been some TDP's that are just to high and way off. You could think that the extra high numbers are a reservation for forthcoming faster models, but that's not always the case.Quote:

This is just one example. Different sites have measured the power draw and showed that the 67 W figure is not only high like all AMD TDP's, but totally wrong. The mobiles often show the real TDP, but remember that even those are AMD numbers that cannot be reproduced.
Start with that Oakville and recalculate the TDP using 3500+D data >> TDP = 41.4 W. That's pretty low, and still supposedly higher than real world! Now compare to data from lostcircuits and SPCR.
Lostciruits tells us that the 3500+D uses 31.6 W, and a 3800+E 30.8 W.
SPCR on the other hand says it uses 4 A on the 12 V 2 line, which equals 48 W, but that's including the PWM on the mobo which have an efficency of maybe 85% max. Anyway, it's hard to get beyond 40 W stock no matter how you look at it.
But, don't forget that there are three different types of CPU's out there.
Low power T64, regular K8 (including many A64, all S64, and some Opterons), and power hungry FX (and some Opterons, like CABNE). My example was about the regular ones.
A San Diego 2.8 GHz should need something like 60 - 70 W.
Who cares about TDP if it's nowhere close to real world numbers?
Quick questions re: Skinning an Opty:
I read about the raised portion of the socket interfering with the contact between sink and chip.
Is this true for ALL sinks which don't have a cutout for the socket?
I have a NexXxos CPU block which is perfectly flat :(
Hi all! I have an X2 3800+ as you can see in the signature...Do you think it wolud be better if I get an Opteron (single or dual core) for gaming?...I`m happy with my X2 but I think can get sth more in OC and games with an Opteron...or am I wrong? I can sell my X2 and go for an opty for this money...or should I stay with my X2? I need the computer mostly for gameing...
Regards,
Primoz
The Opterons have a really good memory controller i think.
My OCZ EBs did nearly finished the 300MHz
1M goes up to 303-305MHz.

^ What stepping?
Well I've now had in the last two weeks:
Opty 148 cabye from Komplett - does 3.0ghz with 1.65v - sold already
Opty 146 cabge from cpu city - does 2.8Ghz with 1.6v - sold already
(another) Opty 148 cabye from Komplett - does 3.0ghz with 1.6v
Opty 144 cabne from computersmsa - does 3.0ghz with 1.6v - sold already
So I've just got a single 148 3Ghz left now, but after seeing the new 146 batches seem to be cabye I have ordered today:
Opty 146 - from Scan - already in stock, and a 146 from Komplett - in stock at supplier, wait 5 days. Plan is to hope I get a 3Ghz capable 146 out of those two, then sell the other 146 and the 148 and make some cash back.

Yes CAB2E is most definitely a FX57 stepping. If it's the CAB2E 0531RPMW, then you have found gold my friend.Quote:

Maybe you're right, i hope they do perform as good. I googled the stepping and received not one hit... so I guess it is absolutely brand spanking new. :)
Yeah, same here. Have yours been sent yet? Got my despatch confirmation this afternoon, SO EXCITED :DQuote:

To be honest though i'm more looking forward to the 146 CABYE 0540. :)
1 suicide shot of my 144 CABNE 0540.

This is not an issue here , I have taken then IHS of my Opteron and I'm also using the Nexxos block. All works good, gained 5-7C on load temp and helped stabilize my 3ghz o'clock.Quote:

Looks like my CPU is also leet :) People cover the serial number in case of warranty right? Either way I have an incredible high batch, number, but still have high hopes. THis CPU is 1337! :D
Setting up water, hope to have first runs in tomorrow.
lol what voltage did you use there?Quote:
