what do you mean by "no effect"? didn't allow more fsb or didn' increase vmch?

did this mod some days ago. i run vmch of 1.70V - selected in oc guru (bios is the same anyway). when i measured vmch with a dmm i got 1.606V. after vmch mod i measured 1.655V! thats a drop of 0,050V! also the voltage drop between idle and load is gone.

wouldn't say thats nothing. i am able to run a fsb of 380 with a vmch selection of 1.69V in oc guru now. couldn't do this before! was stuck at 340 before. well, cranked vmch up to 1.95 just to see whats going on: 420 fsb!

but you are right. at this voltage levels i could have easily selected a slightly higher vmch in oc guru which would have given me almost the same result.

did vfsb mod too. was a bit disappointing. at the voltagelevels i'm running my system it didn't bring me a single MHZ in fsb speed. tried vtt from 1.28 up to 1.50 with no success far.

to me it looks like vmch and nb cooling is the way to go. will see if this recent talks about gtl ref voltage bring us a bit further. will try this next week ...

Didn't allow more fsb. Needed 1.95-1.97vmch before for 420, still need that if not more now, and it still won't last in orthos. Also can't shut down my system and power back up with any bios other than 13 b03.

Has anyone noticed in Everest that the 1st two cores of a QX6700 will run at the desired multiplier(12 in My case) and that the other two are at the default multi of 10?

The settings after I updated the Bios from 13F to 14B1 were reset to defaults already and I had to set them from My memory.

I ask as I just updated My Bios to 14 B01(1.4?) and I thought this problem was supposed to cure this?

Oh and Everest and the latest Beta of Speedfan 4.32 read the cpu temps as about 20-25C too high for the cpu, the cores read about 15C higher than the cpu in Everest(58C currently, It's been as high as 65C, It's false as My other QX6700 cpu reads a Temp of 31-38C in an Asus P5W DHD(Everest says more like 70-75C for the cores and 100C for the cpu, Go figure, even at 3.38GHz), The Vigor Monsoon II TEC cpu cooler panel in either PC says 37C and 43C respectively), It would be nice If this were fixed. I tried running the uGURU software and It read the same temps and then proceeded to shut down the PC thinkin the cpu was overheating, I had to go into safe mode and uninstall It and erase the install file.

Oh and I wish that the 1333 strap would do 2:3 or something that will allow My ram to not exceed 442MHz and the cpu to work at 3540MHz, 800MHz strap is being used right now with a 2:3 ratio as My ram can do that with a multiplier of 12. :D My ram is OCZ Gold PC2-8000 with timing of 4-4-4-10(stock is 5-6-6-15).

So if i OC through the bios (old fashion) the board wont boot when set exactly to 360 or over 360 FSB (359 still working), but if i OC through uGuru i can reach 420 fsb with 1.80 vmch with ease and orthos rock stable.
The only problem thats bothering me is that when the system crashes when experimenting with higher FSBs, i need to turn off the PSU or sometimes do a hard bios restart to get the system to post again.

Im an Abit fanboy, but im really thinking of getting another 975 board.
To much hairpulling because of this motherboard.

BuBBle.D, bios is setting different memory timings for different fsb values. timings get tighter as you increase fsb. you can see this easy by booting into windows and running memset. try it with different fsb settings, set in bios, and check the timings afterwards in windows. the reason why your board starts making problems at 360fsb is your memory. different memories are able to live with different timings. yours is able to boot with the timings set up to 359MHz. other will survive even higher fsb. eg. the mem i'm using boots easily fsb above 380MHz. if you could put in some other memory you will be able to boot at higher fsb, but the wall is there, it just kicks in later. what might help here is a different bios version. you didn't mention the version you are using, but different bios versions set timings slightly different. so you might be lucky and jump over this 360 wall with another bios version. can't tell how far it brings you.
i use bios 13.A11 myself. give it a try. there are also some testversions of bios 14 out there ...

well, if you decide to go for a new motherboard, you should consider a 965! from all what i have seen this chipset is able to reach far higher fsb than 975. or one of the newer chipsets coming out on boards right now.

Yes all bios versions do that, Quad cores multi adj only ups 2 cores the default multi is on the other 2 cores, thats why the large disparity in temps reported by coretemp between the cores for me 300x12 = 3.6 2 cores 3.0 2 cores, so I swapped for a P5b and all 4 cores at 3.6, then put a Xeon 3060 in the abit at 423x9 and all is well again. Try coretemp for reading core temps, the 70-100 temps sound accurate for loaded oc'd temps on air. :fact:
31-38 is what my qx6700 reads on stock vcore with c1e on water with a window open!!

I will try to get me another pair of sticks and report back. I am using the 1.4aplha bios and have tried almost any bios there was (dunno about 1.3a11, so if you know where i can fint it, share the info with me) and i think one booted over 360fsb if i remember right but couldnt go over 370fsb so i guess ure right that its a bios thing.

As for getting another motherboard, 965 is outta the questin since i am getting an second x1950xtx soon.:banana:

i found out the uguru bios utility very poor(crying loud)
lastime i use ds3 atleast can boot at 366 x9 from bios

how come u guy can get more than 370fsb??

ps; if i raise the vmch voltage, does it affect my pci-e volt also?

Now My other quad core QX6700(P5W) is at 32C at 100% load crunchin numbers for Seti and all 4 cores are runnin at 3.38GHz on My Asus P5W DH Deluxe(1601 Bios), I'm experimenting with the Abit AW9D-MAX Bios as It is using the 1.3A11 Bios as I'm using the 1333 strap there, So far My ram is at 309, I may redo the the multiplier down to 10 from 11 and up the ram speed to as close as I can to 340MHz(OCZ Gold PC2-8000 ram, Timing 5-5-5-10, I tried 4-4-4-10 and I'd just get constant reboots, My P5W uses the same ram and It accepts 4-4-4-10 with No hiccups at all, very stable). :D

someone can tell me what parameters i have to use to do the flash by bios if i want completely to reset it with awdflash?

i think "cc" is the abbreviation for "clear CMOS"...you would be duplicating something already done by the flash program.

when you have parameter /cc in string only thing after flash when you boot in to bios again just load optimized defaults no clear cmos jumper,then set what setting you want to have thats the way i allways do..

I just wish I could get the AW9D-MAX to stop rebooting, I've had to set My OCZ PC2-8000 ram at 5-5-5-12 andthe QX6700 cpu down to 3.30GHz(multiplier of 12, memory at 2:3, strap is at either 1066 or 800[not sure]), I've had It boot in the past as high as 3.64GHz into XP x64 of course. :D psu is an OCZ 700w psu.
