I just wanted to give you guys an update on my situation. I haven't tested switching out the memory yet. I left the machine unplugged all day while I was at work. I powered it back up with everything at stock and so far Orthos has run 30mins on both cores (blend test) with no errors (it's still running).

I'm going to gradually raise back up to my overclocked levels and test as I go. If I run into any problems on the way, I'll pull a stick of ram out and test them one by one.

I'm thinking that I'll also give the new bios a shot and see if that helps.

Could this board be burning up my ati cards? Ive had a x1900xtx and x1950xtx both go out on me after a few weeks on this board with everything set to auto. Any ideas on this one? They still kinda work, just cant do 3d without a complete hardware lockup.

I have tried 1601 and have nt noticed any difference from 1503. Mind you I am not overclocking very high.

I have just had the same problem! My ATI X1950XTX started showing artifacts while in 3D mode yesterday and then locking up. After some reboots and removals/reinstallations of the card and drivers the card started showing artifacts (extensive!!!) from the very beginning of booting my pc, even before windows loads.

I'm taking it back to the store today to be replaced. It is 1 1/2 months old and has only worked on my P5W DH Deluxe.

brock01, are you using the latest drivers from realtek. I have no such problems with my wireless whatsoever.....

I have had some problems trying to run a X1950CF and a X1900XT in crossfire with this board. I was running the X1900XT by itself with no problems with E6600 @ 3200 (400FSB, 1:1 RAM). Orthos for 16 hours with no errors, and system stable for a couple of weeks running all sorts of applications.

I lapped my E6600 and used Artic Silver 5 on it, as well as on the chipset coolers. I used AS5's instructions for dual core CPU's and applied a thin line down the middle of the E6600. Unfortunately, there was no temperature drop after this.

When I put in the X1950CF, the pc started rebooting or locking up when running 3D apps, so I thought this was a power supply issue. I tried lots of different drivers, and tried each card individually. I also went back to stock speeds for the E6600, but could still not run crossfire without getting reboots. I also did a lot of research on my PSU, and I believe that it should be powerful enough.

After a couple of days, the board wouldn't even POST! No beep, no video, all fans speed up & and small noise from my HDD, then nothing. So I took everything apart and tried to boot with only the P5W, E6600 and PSU. Still nothing. So I took off my Big Typhoon and saw that the thermal paste didn't look very well applied. I removed it and applied it again using a clean razor blade, and got a smooth thin layer on it.

After doing this, the PC booted, coretemp was showing that the CPU was 10 degrees cooler, and crossfire worked!! No more reboots or lockups at stock speeds. Then I tried OC'ing back to 3.2GHz with 400FSB, and the reboots are back when 3D apps are running.

I've been meaning to try OC'ing again in small steps and see if I can find a stable clock, but I'm realling confused about what is causing these reboots.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Hi again brock01, I guess you've made sure there's no hardware conflict such as a PCI card, do you run crossfire?
Have you made sure that all other devices not in use have been disabled in the bios?

I set the lane strength to "heavy" in bios, and have had no issue running dual cards, and since the FAH beta cme out, running 1 card 100% 24/7 and on saturday increased that to 2 cards running 100%. No change in my overclocks, and no artifacts or stability issues. Maybe those of you with the X19xx issues should set this setting manually, and see what happens.

I'd be checking to make sure that PCI-E is locked as well.

Are you running stock cooling on the MCH (northbridge)?
That chip gets really hot.

I am having good luck with mine.
Testing now 400 x 9 @ 1.41 volt vcore.

It's definately a work in progress, i managed to get 450Mhz FSB with it,

My Recommendations
-Fix the Vdroop or add more setting on Volt settings
-More Memory Timings or subtimings.
-NB Active Cooling.
-Change Temp Sensor from SB to NB
-Remove JMicron for something else, anything better
-Fix performance with EZ Backup ports.

On a side-note.. i see that on the asus site it says that the p5w dh deluxe is now quad-core ready.. perhaps this is another feature of bios 1601? Or maybe this was implemented before?

1601 is worse than useless for me, board will give cmos error on every boot and wont accept overclock settings. Only way I can get into windows is hit F2 & accept default settings. This is after clearing cmos via jumper.

1503 still the best so far for me.

OK guys... Got a replacement X1950XTX and everything is back to normal... I hope it will stay this way and this board won't turn out to be an ATI eater.

I just got my new GSkill 800MHz 4-4-4-12 ram sticks and something funny is happening...

The sticks say they have the above timings on the stickers on their light blue heatsinks but Everest reports 5-5-5-15... Now, due to the known SPD setting problem, I cannot set them manually.. CPUZ reports thet the board is setting them at 5-6-6-18. That's even worse than the SPD!!!
There is also a difference in the model number on the stickers and the one reported by Everest. The stickers say PHU2 and everest PHU1.

Is there anyone who has the same ram on this board?

This mobo is rather particular about RAM (at least till Asus fix the BIOS).

Everything is alright!

G.Skill set those SPDsettings for the N00bs that have bad Boards just to secure they work with 1,8V on EVERY ddr2capable Board on the Planet.

In fact u should know how to handle HighendRAM if u buy it :slap:

Go to the damn Chipset Settings and set them like u want them. Just keep in mind that u have to leave the Setting BY SPD if u want to go beyond 360-370FSB.

Another Possibility: go get THAIPHOON BURNER 3 and reprogram your SPD to your needs, so that u can leave the timingSetting to BY SPD and have high FSB370+

PHU1 + PHU1 = PHU2 so thats alright too

Thats the Reason i keep waiting for another good BIOS to solve 2 Problems on this Board:
a) C1E/EIST-independent VcoreSetting(like Abit AW9D!)
b) HighFSB without having to set the timings BY SPD(more Subtimings would be nice, too)

I dont know how long i'll be waiting for this BIOS, but i will not wait until 2008. The AW9D-Max is a very competitive Board to this P5WDH and the most Feature(remote+wlan) are not really needed...

that board is good only if you do not intend to use SLI and any other PCI add on cards... :)

Yes - the other Programs just dont read the actual Multi. They identify the CPU and assume that the defaultMulti is runnin.

I have a ati x1950xtx never had any issues its only about 2 months old but I run 3dmark06 alot and play fear everyday almost max settings full res no problems at all getting huge fps with this board and gpu never locked up once.. all sotock setting not oc
I do know you are only suppose to use the drivers on the cd it came with and not to download the drivers on there website cause that can cause problems so be sure to use only the drivers on the actual cd the x1950 came with...
