Makes me want to get more hardware to hit 100 :D
30 million increase at the height of SC Week? Phew that'd be amazin'
I believe there are still people waiting on cards that are due to be delivered soon, so it's possible there will be another surge before the week is out.
Just need about another 40 high end ATI cards.
still can't get more then 1 task going on my 5800's even with all the app_info stuff =\
This works fine on my 5870 and the few people that I explained it too this way also got it to work. Maybe give this a try;
First, let one GPU WU run and finish and don't let it upload (disable network if needed). If there is no WU in your manager this will not work.
Exit BOINC and check "stop boinc service" --> Open notepad --> copy/paste one of the app_info code into the new document --> save as app_info.xml in your <boinc>\data\projects\www. worldcommunitygrid. org folder (make sure you save as "all files") --> start boinc manager.
I suggest you try this app_info first:
(runs only 2 GPU theads)
The "0.5" between "count" means every WU will take half the GPU which results in 2 threads running at the same time. If you change that to 0.25 it will run 4 threads etc.Quote:

Well made the first contact with my school's IT department in drawing up a proposal to run BOINC on campus computers. Checked them out today looks like the entire computer lab is i5-2400k's with ATI 5550 GPUs :)
i5-2400k ??? There is none.

Very nice
It should download new tasks, otherwise, try to update manually or a restart. It always starts downloading new tasks after doing that for me.
1) Sorry, I thought because you already tried the app_info stuff you knew this. It is normal with all app_info's that this happens. I should have warned :(
2) Are you sure there was a WU at 100% completion once you tried this? Because if not, it will indeed not start downloading new tasks.
maybe hop over to the working app_info thread and post the startup messages from BOINC event log so we can see what's going on?
im not really fond of doing it again and losing another 3-4 days worth of tasks
specially in the middle of SCW
I used Fallwind's config on my GTX 570 and it worked fine. I was able to set GPU to .125 and keep everything at 100% load. I searched and found the link to his app_info. I turned off computing on CPU and all I'm getting are GPU WUs.

And anyone who feels like sticking around is more than welcome :yepp:
I'm headed off home. No way I could scrape up a sliver of pie this time. Well done to those who managed it!
Ok I have put last night three additional HD 7970 and two GTX 580 on the line. It should add a little something. Unfortunately I have been not able to make those boards crunch more than one WU at a time. The app_info files do not seem to work and I am not sure were to put them into the BOINC files. If I could have more GPU WU running in parallel then I could do more. My CPU's are all 980X so they can well handle this.

I am running GPU only (ATI) app_info and have zero problems so far.
running 12 threads with 7950 and 3930K and other machine 7870 CF 12 threads in 3930K all runing fine. Maybe not mix ati and nvidia cards
on to one machine.
I couldn't get the GPU HCC only app_info to work, so I used the GPU HCC and CPU HCC then turned off CPU computing on the Device Profile. Give that a try if you can't get the GPU only app_info to work. It's on the same link krjalone provided.
I have some difficulties by understanding what means ATI GPU only or GPU+HCC etc..
I am crunching only HCC at the moment to make it simple. So CPU and GPU should all crunch HCC WU.
What I see is that I have one WU that is crunched and displayed as (1 CPU + 1 ATI GPU).
There are 12 threads on the CPU (980X with Hyperthreading) running.
Some additional help is welcomed.
Hello Eta..,
I suggest that you read and post in this thread : "working with app_info" it is here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...app_info-files
HCC = Help Conquer Cancer
WU = Work Unit
GPU WU = work unit processed by graphic card + CPU (much faster than CPU)
CPU WU = work unit processed by CPU
For ATI graphic cards HCC is the only project that presently offers ATI graphic card WUs. Just keep in mine that HCC has two type of WUs:
CPU only HCC WUs
CPU + ATI GPU HCC WUs
Welcome aboard,
Jean-Guy
OK ... this will run 8 HCC tasks using your 7970 and all left over cores will run hcc on your CPU
1. fully stop BOINC
2. rename app_info file to __app_info.xml
3. restart BOINC until you have some regulat HCC and some HCC (1 CPU + 1 ATI GPU).
4. Stop BOINC
5. Overwrite the information inside __app_info.xml
6. Save file as app_info.xmlCode:<app_info>

7. Restart BOINC
Once you have this working for all your PCs that have a 7970 let us know and we will help get the GTX580 working also
Thanks Snow Crash. I will give it a try. Stay tuned.
Unfortunately it is not working.
Only one thread with GPU.
I feel a little stupid on this. Anyway I am getting old.
I did as mentioned. Here is the sequence:
Stopped Boinc (Latest Berkley version 64 bit)
Created an __app_info.xml file with the code as per Snow Crash post here above.
Inserted the file in the following directory: C/Program Files (x86)/Boinc/Projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org
Then restarted Boinc
I have HCC CPU and GPU files but at this stage again only one GPU thread.
Then stopped Boinc.
Opened the __app_info.xml file (using notebook) and overwrote the whole code again as per code above.
Renamed the file app_info.xml
Relaunched Boinc and no change.
Maybe I did some things wrong.
Did you stop boinc completely? Or just the boinc manager? Check task manager to see if boinc is stopped.
And is the xml file really saved as a xml file? Right click and properties to check this.
The file goes in Boinc/programDATA/projects/worldcommunitygrid.org
I made this mistake at first, too. I aborted all tasks, close boinc, placed the file in the correct folder mentioned above, set GPU to .125 with <count>.125</count>, saved file, loaded up boinc, and updated to get new tasks. Read through Snowcrash's messages again and try my instructions and see if that helps.
Eta,
What OS are you using? You state that your boinc ver is 64 bit so you should not be using the C/Program Files (x86) directory but rather the plain C/Program Files if you are winxp or vista.
And what one.shot said for win7.
Just a thought, might move this video card troubleshooting over to its own thread or continue one of the many video card threads.
that app_data file goes here ( This is win7-64)

I moved this conversation to Old Chaps app_info file thread.

The new app version hit hard... Got all mine updated just now after at least 8 hours of nothing...
Hey Bun-Bun: What does that mean? Are previously working app_info files no longer working? I had to shut my rigs down. On restart, I'd get like 10-12 WUs and then nothing. :( Communications deferred and no work. I deleted the app_info, got work and am minutes from enabling the suspended gpu WUs. Did something change???
WFO,
HCC ATI GPU WUs have gone from version 6.56 to version 7.05. To be able to use the new ATI GPU HCC 7.05 WUs you need to change and reset your app_info.xml file(s).
See the app_info thread for details.
Cheers,
Jean-Guy
I lost about 5-6 hours and between 175 -215k points. boooooo
I always have a problem saying XS and normal in the same sentence :)
You can clearly see we are all running with a app_info file.
Team 2ch didn't have a lower score. Looks like they are just running stock GPU systems. Nothing extreme about that. ;)
I wish the WCG forum was closed to the public. Like you have to be a member in order to see what we post here. Simple Google search brings up all of our posts.
And ya we don't know normal :)
Retro77,
Remember the leakage of XtremeSystem crunching knowledge to other World crunching teams is really a motivator for us to innovate and find more Xtreme possibilities to help the global fight against deseases & starvation for humanity. Making the other World crunchers more productive is a win win situation for scientific research.
Besides that, Xtreme folks need this challenge and must give opponents a helping hand to make the crunching race more interesting...
Have a great weekend,
Jean-Guy

still having problems with app_info?
Besides, if it doesn't leak then who's going to validate all the work XS keeps churning out? Anyway, by the time a new technique from XS spreads across the rest of the grid the lads here still had it up and working first and should have the NEXT thing already in development.
I was guilty, woke up this morning to both rigs sitting idle :shakes:, fixed and back going strong again. Hopefully I will be adding at least one more 7950
Probably not. More like the new 7.05 WUs use more GPU/CPU time rendering previous data/points info obsolete. Just a guess. Cough, told ya so. :yepp: I'd provide points data to support this but I bumped my cards for more gpu WUs than actual CPUs ( 10 cpus on 8 core/ 14 on 12 core) and need at least a week to get more data, revert and prove it. Anyone running 8 - 7.05s on a quad hyper-threaded or 12- 7.05s on a hex that can compare 7.05 points to the previous WUs yet??? Inquiring minds and all. :)
My BOINC stats are all screwed up. It shows I did 79k boinc for previous day, but doesn't show my rigs that did those points???
I still managed 550K WCG points after being idle for 5-6 hours. The day wasn't a total loss.
WFO,
I have noted no appreciable difference between the processing time of ATI GPU hcc 6.56 and & 7.05 so far. I am using a quad hyper-threaded i7 2600K on my rigs and run 8 GPUs and CPUs. Timings were and still are for 2 WUs (2:58 AVG) and 8 WUs (7:32 AVG) . The timing change should occur next Monday or Tuesday when the larger 7.05 ATI GPU hcc files are released.
Possibly of interest: I used to get one 0-3 errors daily with a "No process is on the other end of the pipe. (0xe9) - exit code 233 (0xe9)
". The advent of 7.05 file produced 14 of these errors on my rig yesterday. This is possibly due to the transition from 6.56 to 7.05. Did anybody else notice an increase in error code 233 in their results status yesterday?
Thanks,
Jean-Guy

I think he got bumped up the power tiers to the unsustainable point. He can do really strong spurts but can't keep it up due to Cali's energy costs. Something that I hope the rest of the country doesn't participate in.
