odds of this mobo hitting 270 or more with pair of 1gb sticks??
my DFI is pissing me off looking for another mobo thats bug free and OCs well
Im running a 2 gigs of Gskill HZ (2 X 1gig) and i cant get them stable past 255 on this board... I have hell booting from a cold boot with them at anything over 235? Hopefully its just a bios issue, but if i want the board to boot every time with no issues, im stuck at ram speends limited to 235mhz.. Ive tried all multies within reason and all dividers.. Makes no difference.. If the rams over 235 and i boot a cold boot, it just hangs, power down and power back up and it boots with fail safe settings?
It took setting Preamble to 9.5ns and Max Async Latency to 10ns just to get 255 stable? Hoping that that beta bios might help with this... Also with 1T enable and laxed timings and ram at 200mhz, SuperPI 1M fails instantly??
Ahh fellas, if only Tony could give a look at that bios and make a little of his magic.
Here are my 4 dimms up an running, gksill and twinmoss.
Board automatically sets divider.

Try this ...start at 200 and set your ddr voltage manually ...I keep mine at 2.7v (2gb redline ddr-500). Also set your multi and vcore manually and enable the overvolting.Quote:

For now set your htt to 200.
Reboot and re-enter bios and up your ram 10mhz at a time (210-220-230 ...etc) rebooting each time and once you hit 250 go to 255 next. You may or may not be able to take it to 257-258 but you might. From this point you can try 400htt but don't expect to get 600 ...you really shouldn't even need to mess with it.
After that run a membench and see what you get. I doubt there is much you can do after that to get much more bandwidth from that ram. 1t and tighter timings may give you a slight bit more but they also might get you unstable.
I've been testing this day after day for the past week and this is what I've come up with ...it doesn't seem like much but the bandwidth is great!
I've managed to get to 260 with 48.85 latency ...10400 chip bandwidth and 8320 mem bandwidth.
edit:\ to get to 260 I used 2.9v and rebooted from 257 @ 1mhz per reboot to get there using the creep method above ...and I leave it at 200htt cause it makes no difference.

Bios 0309 up here:
ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUS/mb/socket939/A8R-MVP/
Anyone got a working clockgen for this board??
New Bios opens up new memory multipliers, no new voltage options.
Good news is that I am priming my 170 @ 2.6ghz where before I was getting instant prime errors at the same settings.
~260MHz 2.5-4-4-7 1/1 1T is max bootable for me.
Pretty worthless compaired to the DFI NF4 boards :(
The new bios is total crap for me. It wont boot at 2.6ghz anymore.
If this board can do 320 1:1 i'm selling my 2 new Ultra-D
It cant. It's one of the worst 939 boards I've ever had.Quote:

I'm selling it right away...
the board is new, give it time and new bios... ;)
Wil try the new bios
Well the new dividers over 200 do not even work right for me? for example 250 is 133, same as it was for the beta bios? Whey would they even bother adding something like that if its not going to work righ or am I missing something here? Anyone else actually have luck with the new dividers?
have you guys tried adjusting trc and trfc? On Neo2's those changed dynamically depending on clock and divider which caused a lot of problems....
OK somewhat good news.. I flashed to the newest bios yesterday.. And this morning my system actaully booted up at 11 X 300 with ram at 253mhz (183 divider) without the usual cold boot problem where it would not boot with memory over 230ish?? Could be a coincidence though..
Flashed 0309 last night and at my previously 13h prime stable settings (290x10 1:1 2T) prime would fail in a matter of seconds, 295 that would fail prime in seconds before wouldn't even make it to windows desktop with 0309.
Flashed back to 0201 and voila, back to normal.
Well done ASUS, nice step back :slapass:
0037 bios uploaded, crap with BH5 but good with TCCD UCCC Infineon etc. Its beta and use at your own risk.
This is the bios Anandtech used

You're the man Tony, thank you very much, what would we do without you :toast:
thanks tony.Quote:

good to see the bios was the culprit and not the board.
might have to hang onto the board a little longer until they release a newer bios that's bh-5/6 friendly
Well, no luck either with 0037 running 1T above 255HTT here, it's performing almost the same as 0201 wich is still the best for me it seems.
Thanks again for hosting the bios Tony.
still the same for me
