No problem! Things are going well again I ran prime at 2.9ghz at 1.6v for like 7hrs. I am now running it at 2.95ghz at 1.6v for an hour. So it looks like I broke the wall I hit.

This chip runs hotter and I was seeing my PWMIC temps going up to 57c then prime would fail. So I took a fan and put it over that area on the mobo and the temps dropped to 47c (NO KIDDING) so all it needed was some airflow. I thought with the 2 120's the 3 80's and the Big Typhoon I has pleanty of airflow. But I guess I was wrong.

Hey Joe2004 when you get your chip post some results over here so we can compare..

I dont know I noticed that before it maybe caused by the new ver of CPU-Z. Notice on the new version of CPU-Z there is no refresh button. When I open it now its just fine. So I dont know.

Well I stopped prime at 12hrs so its stable at 2.95 with 1.60v. This morning I rebooted and all I got were bios beeps. So I went through all the steps to recover as I have in the past. It looks like the Mushkin died! I then put my OCZ back in and my system is running prime again at 2.95ghz 1.60v just to make sure. I will put it to 3ghz tonight to see if it would be stable. I called in an RMA to newegg for the Redlines and ordered some G.skill LE's. When I get home I will post a SS of 2.95ghz prime stable at 1.60v.

Edit: G.skill LE 4400's will be here on wed. 256.00 at newegg.

OCZ.... TCCD I hope. You might want to think about getting a new board. Your problem starting to sounds like what I had to go through.

Well my OCZ is CH-5 and works really nice with this mobo. I was thinking of picking up a new mobo today after work. The G.skill LE's are TCCD I think they are the 4400's and should clock well. But I did try my Redlines in my other comp and they just give bios beeps both of them.

Anybody know where to get these for a good price? Preferably OEM as i don't need the heatsinks and warranty will get nullified a little while after i tested them ;) .

Yes, a good price would be nice. I'm itching to test an X2 (so many people say that windows feels much faster) however that 400$ price tag is rather dissuading.

You know what I think you should spend your money on! LOL

Gogar, why dont you try pricewatch.com or just go to all the regular computer sites and compair the prices. I paid 379.00 at Fry's but I know that PC Club has them also for the same price. I like these places so I can hand pick the chip..

Hey guys, right now I am waiting on my new ram to get here to push any farther. Right now I backed down to 2.9ghz at 1.6v. If anyone wants me to run some benmarks please just let me know cuz I would like to satisfy anyone's curiosity about this chip.. So just let me know cuz I am only going to be on for a little while longer.

I got my X2 3800+ yesturday from Mwave and its only an average OCer. It does 2760 @ 1.71v dual prime stable cooled with Exos2. IMO thats 2.5-2.6ghz on good air.

I'm going to put it under the LS tomorrow and see what happens but I'm not expecting much more that 3ghz.

Yeah that sounds about right. What kind of temps are you getting? Maybe thats the problem. Its seemed like my wall was the PWMIC temps. Once I got a fan on them I was stable at 2.95ghz. I am going to put a HS on it and leave the fan that should cool it really nice. Next month I am going to build a water setup something midrange I plan on spending like $300 on so we will see what it can do..

what stepping you got? I hope mine coming from mwave wouldn't be too bad....

Here is a pic of the chip, I've removed the IHS and have a fan blowing on the Mosfets so temps are not a concern.

On my 4400+ core 1 was the weak core, on this chip core 0 crapped out pretty quick compared to the core 1.

Like I said, it's probably an average OCer for a 3800+

New cpuz has "auto" refresh. No refresh button anymore.

Ok well I think I know how my Redlines died my bios is all messed up. I got my G.skill's today and I put them in and as always did a bios clear. After that I couldnt boot with 2 sticks in. So I took one of them out and got into the bios and booted at stock settings. Once in windows I started to open cpu-z and A64 Tweaker and then BSOD. I was like WTF! So I was thinking that it had something to do with the TCCD and the 510-2fixed bios. So I then booted to the bootable cdrom to flash to a different bios. All started to look good until it froze half way through the flash. It got to like the 2nd block and just froze there. So stupid me (knowing it was shot at this point) reset the system. I can get into the bios but I cant read a thing its all jumbled up. So right now I am on my way to Fry's to pickup a new DFI mobo. OH WELL!

I picked up a 3800 x2 a few days ago, i just put the system together yesterday and i guess so far so good. i am still testing but it looks like i hit a wall - i am at 2.5 Ghz right now with 1.4 V. Anything over 2500 gives me BSOD. i tried voltage up to 1.6 v and still the same result. temperatures go up to 50 at load with dual prime running, so i guess it is not the heat that is stopping me.

anyone had any similar problems before they took of the IHS?

Sounds totally like a heat problem..get the IHS off and it should clock mugh higher

I am very reluctant to take the IHS off at this point. Even if i get stuck at 2.5ghz, according to the benches i ran, the x2 3800 beats the crap out of my 4000 san diego running at 2.6ghz - the 3800 scores almost twice the score of my 4000 in multimedia and arithmetic benchmarks.

the reason i asked this question is because i think i remember seeing people posting that they were getting 2.8ghz on their 3800 X2 with the stock cooler...

Hey vapourise, If you are worried about killing your chip or messin something up I wouldnt do it. I wouldnt know about stock cooling I went right into taking the IHS off and putting my Big Typhoon on. But before I took the IHS off I was just using the BT and was getting 2.5ghz with like 1.4v but my temps were really high at over 60c. I found that these chips run really hot and that the PWMIC area gets really hot as well. Once I got a fan over the PWMIC area I was able to go a little farther.

Also here is a quick update-- I have been messin with my new G.skill LE's which I havent figured out yet but I have them pretty stable where they are right now. I am running a little more voltage on the cpu and the ram than I want to. But I will be under phase really soon :D So anyway I am running prime right now with these settings so I will post as soon as I stop it. Funny I ran prime for 26hrs the other day and clicked on exit instead of stop so I didnt get a SS of it. But I will run it again to show that it will do it. My 3DMark03 score went up to 9800 with my new ram (I think thats what caused it) thats good cuz it ran at 9530 before with my Redlines.

Edit: I had to redo the SS cuz mbm was reporting wrong. It does that from time to time. Thats why I dont trust it!

Yes I am still using the 623-1 it seems to work the best so far! At least with my G.skills. Now when I was using my OCZ's I used the 510-2fix with hellfires 3.16 rom and that worked great!
