edit: got bored, tried for max speed at normal temps. this is with 1.65v, 25c ambient, 40c idle temps by a heatsink thermal sensor

Conrad, do you have any experience using an XP-90? I currently have one and I think it's a pain in the azz to install even on a lidded core. It uses lots of leverage -- snaps in one side at a time -- and I would think that would be disastrous on this chip. It'd break in two in a heart beat as soon as you put the needed pressure on the edge of this chip.

I guess it would be possible to install without having to use leverage by pressing down on top of XP-90 while sliding in one side of the "hooks" then the other, but one little bobble... :explode2: I would think this would be even more difficult when trying to get it back off.

That's why I'm waiting patiently for the rest of my water cooling setup, otherwise I'd have this baby calculating PI on air by now. :cool:

it will be "difficult" to install but not overly so...

on my Mobile ClawHammer I installed a XP-120 relatively easily... and that was the first time I'd even seen a AMD64 CPU, AMD64 Board, XP-120, etc...

you will have to shave a bit off the mounting bracket though... otherwise contact wont be that great Conrad

I am sure I can figure out exactly how much I am supposed to shave off but it would be nice to know in advance. ;)

I plan on using the XP-120 for my Turion. :D

I actually chipped a core because of the XP-90. :slapass:

After that, I cut and drilled some custom mounting brackets. Haven't had a problem since. Here are some pics.

Rabbi, you must have a talent I don't have, because those "arms" have a lot of tension to them... at least my XP-90 did.

How much pressure can the edges of theses mobiles take? I would have thought not very much.

Rabbi, how'd you get it on without using any leverage?

Without the IHS the XP-90 won't mount as tightly, but there's still enough tension to chip the core if you're not careful.

What I'd also suggest is taking some pads off an old Athlon and glueing them to your mobile A64 if you want to be extra safe. This way pressure is put on the edge of the CPU, not the edge of the core itself.

xenolith, I'm actually using a different heatsink now and was planning to sell my XP-90. If you want I can mail you those brackets. Not sure how long until your water is ready to be setup, but if you want them just say it and they're yours. I have no use for them anymore.

My preferred heatsink of choice is the Thermalright SLK-948U. This will be the first time I ever use the XP-90C. No matter how tricky it may seem, I will eventually get it mounted on properly and safely. ;)

Sweet as bro, here's how I did it... Shroomy deserves credit for this cos he taught me how to do it.

Shave about 1/3 of the height off of the XP-120 mounting bracket... I took off 1/2 and it was still fine but I wouldn't recommend TRYING to take half off because then if you misjudge the distance you are screwed... at least if you don't take enough off you can always take more off later.

If you take too much off the bracket can end up resting on components that are soldered underneath it... or can even end up rocking from side to side... I won't explain all the mechanics but know that it's bad HEhehe

xenolith, there is definately a LOT of tension on those clips... I don't like the mechanism they use to apply force... it plain sux. I don't see why more heatsink can't be attached the same way those Intel sinks are... with a lever on either side of the sink that you simply pull down.

The pressure is not on the CPU legs though... the legs are not actually holding up the CPU bro, they are just there for contact... I am pretty sure the CPU's PCB takes all the pressure when it's forced against the socket.

I did use leverage though, and quite a bit actually... it was nerve wracking for a while there. But no more nerve wracking than vModding something, or pumping ridiculous amounts of volts into your CPU jus so you can run a benchmark! :)

It's all worth it though, this heatsink is as good if not better than my old watercooling setup... when ambients are reasonable that it.

thinking about getting one of these 3700 newarks when i have finished cnc'ing my waterblock (will take 45 hours).

Will one of these clocked to 2.7-2.8 produce more wattage than my newcastle at 2.6? (dont want to have to upgrade from my 480w psu)

Looks like it was in fact the motherboard, and not my Turion64, that wasn't working. So it'll be AT LEAST another week before I get my computer running. Gotta wait for another motherboard to arrive. :rolleyes:

Yeah I think everything's fine, it's just that the motherboard was the problem the whole time, not the processor. At least this way though I can get some money out of the Turion... good thing I didn't make it a key chain right away, lol. :D

Does anybody know if the shipping BIOS on the DFI will at least let me boot a floppy and flash with revision E? Or heck, I may even try a PCI-E board. How is the K8T890 chipset in the OC'g department. Anybody know what kind of overclocking options the Soltek S754 K8T890 board has? I'd think it would unofficially work with mobiles because of rev E Sempron support.

A bug in cache size determination has been fixed. Also, CBId properly determines the presence of Hyper-Threading feature. Thanks for excellent support, ozzimark! Frankly speaking, I supposed that OPNs of AMNxxxxBKX5BU are related to the processors with a CPUID of 20FC0h, therefore a previous build 0501 didn’t report an OPN-number and announce date.

glad i could help VVJ, for those curious, here's a shot of the updated version at stock speeds.

also, a thing to note, i had.. difficulty booting at stock speeds. turns out i had to tighten down some of the secondary ram timings :confused:
