Well the KD7's big brother, the AT7M2, is not fairing much better. I am on my 2nd (and probably last) one. This new one is anything but stable at any settings. I was hoping to be able to hold out with it till some good NF2's, but I don't know what to get now.
My KD7 is allso dead
Me thinks either Abit has a quality control problem, or Via is in big trouble.
Well Rma is on the way 2 day air fedex from the egg,,this time I'm gonna check thermal paste on NB and put a HS on SB, maybe it will help?
well I've never seen system temps this high.... cpu is at 25, and ambient is at 39!! This is ridiculous...
What the hell are Abit / VIA upto!?! Looks like I was right about the batch of boards with major southbridge heat issues... don't have any heatsinks about I can put on it unfortunately.... pletny of wb's but no mounting holes...
Lookin over at my Epox 8K5A3+ beside me and wonderin whether to swap it all back over again....

The CPU temp as reported "in socket" are about 6 degrees higher than what is reported by the internal CPU diode.
But, more importantly, the system temp is way overstated. Using a Digidoc, I measured the temps of the northbridge, southbridge, IC chip, and general in case temps. I also placed the Digidoc probe right next to the system temp diode on the motherboard. Nothing came close to what is reported as the system temp.
More specifically the digidoc readout of the probe placed directly next to the system temp diode near the northbridge read about 27c while the system temp was reported at 38c.
Bottom line....don't beleive the system temp readout...it's not even close:)
Cool... well the southbridge is running ok now, and as opp pointed out, the heat is all up round the caps and mosfets... I'll be adding a 60mm fan somewhere over there tomorrow... Finally getting somewhere, but will post results in other KD7 thread...

SOmeone elsewhere mentioned that the sb tends to overheat on the KD7... any problems you guys noticed?
I am not sure but suspect that was my problem..smelled burning smell, but could not detect location, shortly after that board died. I am going to check thermal paste on NB and add HS on SB of new board..also add a fan blowing over caps.Quote:

This is all very strange. I'm just not sure what I am doing wrong (or right ) as i am not having these hot spot troubles with the KD7. I've now just gone through my 3rd kD7 and still no signs of an overheated southbridge or anyhwhere else on the board. The mosfets do get hot...but so did the ones on my KR7A and KX7 boards. In fact, my digidoc reads the same temps from both the KX7 and KD7 mosfets....right around 62c with the probe right there.
Hmmm...one thing I did notice was that all the KD7-RAID boards I've used so far are version 1.1:

I thought it was unusual to see a rev 1.1 already. This is from a board I've had for about 3 weeks already. Maybe this has something to do with why I'm not having any heat troubles....not sure.
What rev boards are you guys using?
Also, I was wondering if the SB temps are behind the HD corruption issue at high FSB speeds. Just a thought:confused:
Well, I just got ny 3rd (yes 3rd) AT7M2. If this one isn't stable, then I think I might have to swear off of Abit for a while. Choices are getting pretty slim!
I have a kd7 comming either today or tomorrow I'll let you guys know if I run into the same heat problems or not.
Well, would ya beleive I just had to reinstall cos 207FSB knackt my installation!?? System temps were up at 49/50, even with my Zalman 92mm over the mosfets and an 80mm down by the southbridge. Getting hold of these boards on a regular basis is a problem in the UK at the mo as apparently Abit are only doing manufacturing runs of 500 boards at a time... this could result in some very large differences between boards of the same revision, and altho the smaller quantities should equal better quality control, they apparently don't.
Impressed with the board's many good points... strong voltages, onboard stuff, mem bandwidth etc... but it's few weak points and the problems they bring far out weigh the benefits...
I'm ordering the Iwill KK400 this week mefinx, cos I loved the XP333-Raid...
I would like to try the Iwill KK400 mobo also Marci. I have no idea where to get one though.

I'm currently in the process of putting the finishing touches on my KD7-RAID motherboard review for Liquid Ninjas, and I'll definitely be taking into account these reports. I think the mobo might still be a good choice for the beginning or moderate enthusiast, but these heat and HD corruption issues at high FSB speeds are a real headache for the advanced users.Quote:

I have this board on order along with an xp2400+....am I making a BIG mistake considering I will be vapochilling it with my older Vapochill??

I like this mobo myself except for the strange heat issue. I mean it works just fine. It's a great Overclocker with good Overclocking features and your XP2400 will fire right up unlocked. Just remember to flash to the latest bios ASAP for better preformance.

I just got the kd7r today I'll be testing it later tonight to see if there's any of those heat issues and such with my board.
I just took out my XP2200 and put in a XP1600, I connected the L1s and have all mulptipliers but here's the cool thing. The chip is default at 10.5 yet I can use all the multipliers so far up to 12, it goes beyond the buggers specs, thats the KD7 for you, glad Abit figuerd out the multiplier thing, it's great:D
