Does anyone know if the MCP35x Reservoir will work on other aftermarket tops? It seems to use a G1/4 coupler, but I'm not sure of the lack of the holding pin will be a significant factor. I have an XSPC top, and I'd very much like to use this reservoir. Also, anyone know who has V2 in stock? All I see anywhere is the original, and I really need that extra top fitting.
Well, not sure, but if you dig into the 35x, it's a PWM 355 with Swiftechs custom top. So do you NEED PWM? It's Swiftechs top that makes it special.
I guess the 35x res is G1/4 thread, it kinda has to be, since the pump is G1/4 on the top.
No, the res isn't really out in the wild yet. I forgot to ask him at the XS party, GRRRR. When it will be showing up at the vendors. We dunno, he said it was shipping, maybe meaning on a boat to USA, dunno.
But it's done and it should be soon.

Should I use stock top or XSPC Acrylic top with this pump? I may get the MCP35X-RES, if the XSPC top is recommended to use over the stock top will the MCP35X-RES fit with the XSPC Acrylic top?
UK stock yet? Can it be use just via 12v in. My aplication for it has no pwr control
You don't need to use the PWM connector for the pump to work. Just connect the molex and it will run at full speed all the time.
Which brings me to my next question, is it normal for the pump (full speed) to be making more noise than 4 x GT 1850rpm at full blast?
The pump is mounted on the pad that came with it and I'm using the standard top.
Pump should be quieter. And question to you - are all air bubbles properly bled from water?

woffen: pump's impeller is not frictioning by touching top? Maybe thicker O-ring might help to distance it?

there are two problem:(
1. the screw head of mcp35x is a bit over size, it cannot fully hide itself inside the bottom hole
2. the screw thread is not true M4, I try to tight it well but broke the top thread, :( lucky it's only 15MM, I can use anothor 20MM M4 screw to replace it...

I did not have the problem you listed as #1, as detailed in this photo. The screws are flush if not recessed 0.5 to 1mm.

Will this pump work with a 3pin fan controller?
I've read it gets the power from the molex connector and gets speed regulated from pwm. My fan controller is not pwm, but instead varies the voltage it gives to fan/pump.
That'll work just fine, you just won't have PWM signal to control (no signal means 100% duty). :)
RPM range from undervolting will be significantly less too...PWM control has a range of 1250RPM to 4500RPM, voltage control may only have a range of 2800RPM to 4500RPM (and the voltage required for 2800RPM may not be enough to actually start the pump). So if you plan to control the pump speed much, proceed with caution when using a fan controller--monitor RPM, err on the high side.
I've got the pump, and on full blast even dampened using egg crate material and held in place with elastic bands at full blast it's not silent... it's in the 40-45db range. It's a little better with the EK top as the delrin is much more dense and there's more of it versus the stock MCP35x top - kind of a cheap plastic, especially for a $100USD mini pump stock. Pretty steep, but the PWM feature is honestly pretty nice.
Just don't run it anywhere near full blast and you're good.
I don't know what you bought, I bought my mcp-35x came with a stock delrin top.
personally I use foam from power supply packaging works great on damping sound and vibrations.
If you dont hook up to pwm, it'll run at 100 percent unless you analog control the power through the molex or modded power.

the weight difference would defiantly make a difference in sound but the top isn't cheap plastic, it's just thinner delrin made for more function than looks, but the mcp35x was never advertised as silent. Good thing you have a sound meter and a silent place to measure dB : ). you should do more pump testing.
It should be considered a crime not to utilize automatic PWM control via temperature monitoring. If you haven't tried it, you don't know what you are missing. 1000RPM is dead silent and it only throttles up when gaming/benching/rendering...which is a small percentage of the time.
Before utilizing PWM controls, my office hovered at 42dbA due to fan/pump noise in the background. I ran it like that for years as my accepted balance between noise/performance. Now that I'm setup to PWM control the pump and fans(via sunbeam rheosmart), my office is around 35dbA. HUGE improvement....I can't believe I waited so long running everything at full speeds all the time.
