It would be VERY beneficial to Ati's buisiness to have one as soon as possible. They would have the entire market locked down! I wouldnt mind if it was a 5830 with 1100sp, just get r done!
Am I the only one disappointed in power consumption numbers? 108W max power for an 800sp 5770, isn't that almost as much as a 4850? How low do we have to go to drop the PCI-E power connector? 5650?

In reality the power consumption will be most likely < 100 W.
HD4670 is the fastest from HD4-series which has no external power connector. It seems to be the same case with HD5-series, if there is going to be a HD56xx.
I would not be surprised if some manufacturers came up with plugless HD5750 with underclocked and undervolted core. It should be possible, but the odds are slim. There isn't market for such a card, but then again, ther are AGP versions of the cards aswell. :shrug:

why would a 5860 sell for ~50$ less than a 5850?
given the quality of the silicon, i dont think they will have a 1600sp card that was bad enough to turn into a 1200sp card, sure a small number might, but i dont know if it will be enough to make a whole new card. however they have to do something, and 1200sps sounds like a good idea (192 memory to fit nicely inbetween the 57xx and 58xx)
Yes you are. We are talking about 4890 performance, which has a 190w TDP and usually consumes around 160-170w gaming vs the 5770 with a ~110w TDP and will probably consume ~80-90w.
I agree. If the RV740 would have gone to plan we would have seen a lower variant w/o a 6pin.
Doh!, i didnt relize that the 5850 was below 5860, my bad. For sure a 5830 would fit the bill nicely. If they couldnt manage a cypress core with 1280 stream processors (2 disabled clusters of 160) from harvesting, I still think a juniper with 850mhz core, 800sp and 256bit memory would be perfect. The only problem is juniper doesnt have the ability to have more than a 128bit bus. So a cypress core would be the only way, which wouldnt be impossible. Im sure there just waiting for more bad dies to stock up before they can launch such a card, since the demand for 5850 and 5870 is so high right now. As soon as there is alot of bad cores lying around it will come, thats why the 4830 came out a few months after release. With the way the market is, the 5830 would definately hurt nvidia big time. Nvidia is lucky that 5830 isnt out, as thats the only thing keeping them in buisiness right now with gtx 260 and 275 being a little faster than 5770.
There still is a chace for the 5750 to work without the 6pin. If you put the card in the slot it still may work without the need for any extra power. It will only crash if it exceeds its power requirement I think, and if you clock it a little lower manually there is a chace it will be ok.
A 5830 from a harvested RV870 core would definitely be a killer. Consider though that the Cypress chip costs a lot, and it will be used for no less than 4 cards (5850/70 and the X2 variants). If yields are fairly high, then it would cannibalize the rest of the series fast. And the situation is not analogous to the 4830, mainly due to the much higher cost of cypress.
I think that we will definitely see a 5830 variant in the future, but it will take some time for it to come to the market. They need both to stockpile bad cores, and give some leeway for the higher parts to get better margins. :up:

According to a source this site broke the NDA and has the actual cards at home to play with. Does seems kind of logical looking at the diesize of 180mm2... Remember there being a talk of a HD4890 replica with DX11? HD4770 apparently.

were both thinking very alike in this. a 1280SP revision of their 1600SP core would be a perfect fit, since the ram would still be very strong. im wondering if they liked this path with the 4000 series. remember how many 4830s were really 4850s with 800SPs.
but we dont know their yield rates, and these are much larger cores than the 4870s, and 40nm isnt being so kind. so given those two facts, a 5830 is hopefully not very far off
So this is going to be slower than a 4870 when there's heavy AF? And it's about the same price? Don't get it.
