max3 Vdimm stabalisation mod.

I truly think that I have the worst MAX3 in the world!
I already tried a P4 2.8 D1 and now a 2.8 M0, the max I could go with the D1 was about 233FSB with GeIL PC4200 at 1:1, with the M0 the max was 240FSB with the same mem conditions!
I'm testing now with 2x256 Mushkin PC3500 BH5 and there is no way I can go unless with divider at 3:2 :mad:, GART at F1 is a thing that I never saw with this board, neither with vdimm=3.2!!!
The MAX3 was my first Abit, and probably it will be the last one...
Tomorrow I'll test a P4C800 Deluxe!

I hate to say it but it really sounds like you just got some bad P4's. I got a collection of them that suck as well. To include an MO 2.4 that i gave up on in frustration. It was unstable at 240fsb with 17c water. I started testing stability at 250 with that cpu and when i dropped to 240 is when i thru in the towel. Not worth my time or effort for a POS cpu like that one. I'd say borrow a mobo or try your cpus in a friends mobo. Your PSU must be capable of a lot of 12v amps also. I have a lot of PSU's that won't boot my new mobos at all. I'd really hate to say it's your PSU. But if you have a back-up i say try it and see what happens.

But after testing i still have to set agp/pci divider to 73/36 minimun and i also tried 75/37, 77/38, 79/39 and 81/40. All of those settings worked for me. I use 75/37 all the time now. It seems to be the best/sweet spot. :slobber:

Is that 76/38 in clockgen ?

Nah that's what i set it at in the bios. I never change agp/pci with software o/c utility.

Nope i can't do that. I've been using it for years and it's registered on aim, yahoo, netscape, prodigy, etc etc etc. Thank god i don't have to use my name like this catch22atplay999. It helps being first. :D

Oh i think he was just politely asking if i could without realising how long i've had it. I'd probably ask some other forum dudes with my nick if they could change it. Did the mod by snipping the MC64 cap in half. Works great!:)

Yup i found needle nose pliers to be the best and easiest way to do it.

VTT mod!!! That's all you need to do now. One of your mods has already been done & without voiding your warranty!!!:D

I got 2 Max3's 1 w/out the MC64 & 1 with it - was RMAed for a different reason, Vdimm was working good on the RMAed board, now it's stuffed.....

Can you do a favour for me? Check your Vcore & see if it undervolts bad? My Max3 (w/out MC64, the newer one) is 1.47v when set to defaults....1.6v gives me 1.525v-1.54v...

Haven't tested it's potential yet but don't like this Vcore fluctuating this bad!!!

Trying to figure out if it's just my bad luck once again or if all the Vdimm fixed Max3's have the same issue I'm having...

I thought the Asus P4C800-E's Vcore fluctuations was bad...This one's worse...

Was going to do the VTT mod on the newer Max3 but me thinks that me remove MC64 & do VTT mod on my RMAed Max3...iirc it's vcore was stable...

Ok, finally got round to lifting the 30 kilo's or so worth of pc+prommie out of the window sill and removed the MC64. I'm very pleased with the transformed stability of my vdimm line :)
ALthough strangly it doesn't seem to have brought me much.
I just quickly tested some 1:1 action Superpi 1M and the best I could do before was 243.4mhz. The best I could do now was 242.5mhz. ALthough with a bit higher temps. This is on 3.2v and 2.2.2.5 timings and auto GAT settings. So I'm pleased with flat vdimm line but not that it seems to give me anything :(
Although I do seem to be able to run 5:4 at 24/7 settings at a lower vdimm now.

The Asus fluctuates and droops a lot more than the MAX3. I got up to 0.10v droop and the MAX3 shows between 0.05-0.07v. I'll take the latter!

My P4C800-E is sittng nicely in my spare room waiting for me to RMA it & then get rid of the sod.

Abit all the way for me, 2 x Max3's & an IC7-G. Gotta get off my a** & get the VTT mod done as well as getting one of my Max3's MC64 off. The other one already has it off (that's the one with the fluctuating Vcore (1.525v is 1.45v-1.47).

At least I can play with my BH5's now...

Ok i did the mod it made my vdimm stable but i still cant use anything above 2.8 the vtt is very low at 1.26 at 2.9 and 1.4 at 3.2 non of hte vdimms are stable its stable at 2.8 and lower and the ram im using has been tested in a P4C800-E with the vdimm mod at 3.1 at 290 1:1 3 4 4 8 prime stable so yeah it aint the ram, but it has stablelised my vdimm etc.

I cant be stuffed removing the mobo from the prommy i guess i will have to do with 2.8v for the mo. Thanks anyway
