Well I would love to build a case and I do have some ideas, however it would need to be a bit different than MM because I don't believe in copying there design at all. However cubed cases can only be made so many different ways so theres the challenge.
Xaxis should have those grills soon so you guys and gals can see real ones and not just pictures!

cool ,waterjet is fun. is your interface software flowcut? I use PRO-E as a CAD engineer at my summer job, its a great program suite. :up:
We use the OMAX software to interface with the waterjet.
Import the DXF file and then manipulate it a little.
ProE is great once you learn it, however compared to some of the other programs the learning curve can be quite steep.
For Xaxis's grills it was great because there were so many little tweaks to make the grills not only custom for his personal tastes but also perform in a way that this build deserves.

armeniandave's master craftsmanship has paid off! The grills are cut and on the way! When I get them, I imagine I'll continue to flip out over how awesome they look, and then realize... I STILL DON'T HAVE MY MountainMods case!!!
I'm going to wait until I have the MM case to get the grills powder coated so I know exactly what color/gloss to decide on!

I know that this thread has become long so I thought I would remind those who are interested what I would like to do with the grills color wise. The MM Ascension + Pedestal will be powder coated frost white (high gloss) and so I intend to have all of the grills which will cover the inside and the outside of each and every location on both of the cases that has a fan, painted a high gloss black, as to be in stark contrast.
Any thoughts? Any alternative color suggestions?
The 3x3 front panel with the two UN logos is the inside cass grill as where the one with the XS logo is the outside grill.
Make the grills an accent color IMO not black :)

very nice!!! not sure how gray would look in high gloss, but sounds like an idea.... but definitely, gray, black, and white are all colors that go together well, along with black and red imo...

these are all from testors who make some really good paints so check their site out if you want to see even more colors... not sure if you wanna go powdercoating or straight painting because these are for painting not powdercoating but here are a few colors... i will remove the pics once your done looking at them if you want...

Np I was actually looking into colors a while back for an idea I had and had that site bookmarked... It's also got some great things for beginning aurbrushing I found out while browsing the site but they also sell some. awesome paints. What I really found neat was their collection of WWII uniform colors.... Really kinda cool if your into miniatures I guess
UPDATE: I should be receiving the case from Mountain Mods no later than the end of next week. I ordered over a month ago. :( But, when I do get it, let the action begin! The grills will be taken in to be painted along with the case the same day if it arrives early enough.

I'm still deciding on the spindle to purchase. I'll probably end up getting the Bosch PR20EVSK Router... unless I can find anything more powerful. I also bought a lot of replacement parts in general for this "baseline" CNC... better ways, mounts, leadscrews, and a myriad of other things I know will make this template CNC into something capable of cutting aluminum slowly but with ease. (I realize fixed gantry is far more ideal for cutting aluminum and metals but I'm going to see how far I can take this CNC to essentially assist in making the next CNC.) I intend to use it for acrylic etchings as well. I estimate the precision of this thing after I'm done with it will actually be pretty good, however I've only got 12" x 18" for my x, y ways (3" for z) so most case panels will be out of the question until I make further improvements, like increase size to 4'x4' replace all blocks and Thompson linear shafts with higher quality THK linear ways, larger creations will be out of the question.
Aside from a spendel, my insano eyes are glaring at a 1024nm 10-1000Watt Q-switched DPSS Laser :D ... I hope I can close them in time.

Well not so much building as modifying the one I bought to the point where I start to wonder why I purchased it at all. I have built two "poor man's" CNCs in the past, all of which are complete crap unless you really really like watching the grass grow... :) I figured this time I would at least by some semi-quality parts instead of what I can find at the hardware store (minus steppers, controller, psu) ... aside from all of that, I'm actually about 900 miles away from my builds atm. :( Taking care of some business up north. I'll be back the day after tomorrow... and guess what! I bet you my MM case STILL won't have arrived.Quote:
