f1 750GB use 3x250GB platters...
Is this a sign of a faulty drive, access time around 20ms, read speed falling to only 15MB/s?

Gr1mR34p3r,
Look like you "used" the disc during the benchmark.
Maybe your torrent or antivirus is running on background during the test.
has anyone actually been able to find the f1 320 and 640gb drives in the US? This is pissing me off so much since plenty of european sites have it, but not a single US etailor or brick and mortar has them
This looks way better, only access time is still rather high, WD5000AAKS has 13.2ms:

So which should be the system drive, is transfer rate or access time more important?
My test with two 640GB F1s in RAID0.

So Samsung F1 640GB and 1TB models are faster than 750GB ones?
http://www.samsung.com/global/busine...s/ES_Tool.html
ES-Tool helped me fix the drive, CD didn't start up on my computer, so I had to install the drive in another one, AAM MODE (Automatic Acoustic Management Mode) set to:
FAST - 18ms in HD Tune
QUIET - 15ms
MIDDLE - 14.2ms
DISABLE - 13.5ms
Set to FAST again and it was 13.5ms, then plugged the hard drive again in my computer, again 18ms  .
So my question is, where do these settings get saved, surely not on hard drive.
And I guess I need to plug in an ATA DVD-RW, it works on computer with ATA DVD-RW, and not on two computers with SATA DVD-RW.
My HD103UJ 1tb runs fine :)
RealTelstar,
Any reallocated sectors? (see SMART data)
Are they 320GB versions the fastest overall?....faster then then 640GB version?
What model/serial number should one be looking out for please.
Thus one should opt for the cheaper 320GB models and RAID them up?
So 2x320 or better 2x640?
Or instead 320GB for the OS and a 640 for else?
^ Don't forget about backups, if money was no object i'd RAID two 320GB and have one 640 + external enclosure for backups.
I think this is ripe for a class action from bait and switch. There's no justifiable excuse for this and they need to be wrapped on the knuckles to stop such behavior. They want to revise the spec, they slap a new model number on it, you don't start selling the inferior parts as if they were the higher performing ones.
Here is 2 hd322hj in raid 0
I've Ordered the 1TB version for storage.
I havent checked if it was 16mb or 32mb because I thought all F1s comes with 32mb cache.
does it make a difference anyway ?
1tb is 32 only the 320 is 16mb
