New EK CPU block!!

I guess I'm missing something... here is my test rig, which isnt even bolted to a mobo tray, it just lays on rubber grommets that go through the screw holes of the mobo... and I mount the blocks on this board with ~55lbs of pressure.

according to http://www.aquatuning.de , they should have the blocks around the 19th.
As I need some cheap Thermaltake memory coolers for my 8800GT, I'm gonna order from them. Saves me some extra €€ on shipping.

Aquatuning indeed, they have all kind of stuff, including Eddy's :up:
I'd like those TT memcoolers too, but I have 4x1gb so it probably won't fit :p:
Maybe time for 2x2gb? :rofl:
Anyway, just awaiting pics and results first, then decide what and how :)

Hi everyone. I am going to choose between this EK cpu block and the D-Tek FuZion with nozzles that my dad recommends. He also says that I have the option of keeping the Apogee GTX if I like and he's going to switch to the copper top for me. I am confused which is the better choice. My cpu is going to be either a QX6850 or a QX6700. It my choice between the two, but my dad tells me that the QX6700 is a better overclocking cpu. Anyway, I have to make choices and its hard.

Well, we all dont know any results on the EK block yet, so if you want to choose , i suggest that you hold off and look for some results.. they "say" that it beats the fuzion, but who knows?

If you should choose Fuzion over GTX i dont know, they are pretty the same :)
but i do got a fuzion with the nozzles, and i am more than happy :) more flow than the GTX EVEN with the 4,5mm nozzle in it..at an ambient of 20c i get about 27c idle and 53c LOAD with 1.54v on my 6850, so personally i would choose the fuzion couse i got it myself, and i havent seen any stunning results of the GTX that would make me change my mind..nor the pressure of it.. i got it perfekt in my loop with mcw60 and fuzion with nozzle.

both are extreme processorn wich got unlucked multiples, who clocks best i dont know :) 6850 has default 1333fsb while 6700 has 1066..does your father got the cpus? and have tried them?

Well the first thing that you need to do is give your dad a "Thanks Dad". It sounds like you have one hell of a good father. :up:

And a well informed one. The best thing my father could tell me about watercooling is that it's better then passive cooling and worse the L2.

The QX9650 is available now. It's been on the market for less than a week and will run cooler, overclock higher, and perform slightly faster clock for clock when compared with the Conroes. If you want more details to the advantages that I've listed, they can be found here.

Highly recommended if your dad hasn't placed the order already for a Kentsfield. And yeah, thank him profusely for whichever quad he gets you. :D

QX6700 are only B3 right, or do they make a G0 stepping one now too?
Because the QX6850 is G0 right and I thought the general consensus was that G0's clocked better, and ran cooler than B3's.

My QX6700 is a B3 that I purchased back in January, it was top notch then, but not so now, barley though :p. But if I was to buy another Top Of Line processor right now it would be the QX9 series one I think.

That is unless that QX6700 is G0. I think G0 is the way to go now though.

How does mine clock, well it is 3.6GHz 12+ hours stable prime 95. And I can bench with it at 4GHz.

I am happy with the chip, and you will too with any quad that you get :)

But this is getting way off topic so if you want to talk more about quads, start up a new thread in the cpu section, you will get more help there.

BTW when will we be able to purchase these blocks in north america???

got a question regarding the mounting hardware :
will the provided longer screws (which go through the back of the board) fit on any used backplates?

I'm asking this because I have the D-Tek and bought a Scythe mounting backplate some time ago.
I noticed that the provided long screws on the D-Tek are to thick, so the backplate is useless.
The long mounting screws that are now provided with the Fuzion are smaller, so the backplate can be used.

Not to speak for EK, but their mounting hardware tends to be M4 sized whereas the mounting screws for the Fuzion are M3 now (and fit Swiftech's, Thermalright and Zalman's backplates in my experience.)

Damn that looks nice, cannot wait to see more reviews on performance and restriction on the loop. This looks like the water block that will be sitting on a new QX9650 at the heart of my system. Well as soon as i find a SLI board that will work with the QX9650. Waiting with baited breath for more info.

Just use the same mounting hardware as the Fuzion. No biggie really. If the screws are smaller just install with care.
