For a motherboard of this caliber (meaning it costs too much money for what it is), all consumers were let down.
The most recent BIOS 0803 (that was OFFICIALLY on the ASUS support website) caused the BIOS to corrupt when settings were changed in BIOS. I flashed to 0803, booted, restored optimal settings, rebooted, changed vDIMM to manufacturer spec'd 2.1v, hit F10 to save and exit BIOS, and BOOM. The Striker shut off by itself and never came back up. Please check your own support forums and xtremesystems.org for the stories of those people that were let down by your poor BIOS programming.
What's the worse part? BIOS 0803 was pulled off the ASUS support site soon after reports of this damaging BIOS started surfacing.
Did ASUS respond with a formal apology or even a description? No.
Did ASUS care? No.
Has ASUS put forth the effort to make this product bug-free? No.
I cannot see why ASUS would release such a product with such severe bugs and glitches. Why release a product that is, for all intents and purposes, defective? Fix the issues and then release the damned product. Learn from companies like DFi, who have begun actually testing products before they are released. Future BIOS revisions from most companies contain enhancements and upgrades, never product fixes that actually make the product usable for what it was advertised to do in the first place.
I, along with members from xtremesystems.org, have found several critical issues that need to be addressed... almost all pertaining to the shoddy BIOS. vCore-to-Strap locks, unusable voltage settings, poor divider performance, and 'AUTO' in BIOS setting voltages beyond reasonable levels are HUGE problems and this product should have never been released without these things fixed.
In conclusion, your top of the line enthusiast board is below mediocre. Your BIOS 'engineers' only seem to find ways of further crippling the product. Your management is abysmal as well. They set release deadlines and even if the product is utter garbage, it is released for the sake of being released. I hope for the love of God that someone that can read english sees this. Your support is terrible as well. You have no online forum presence, no representatives from ASUS are ever available to help, and your website is a slow and painful experience to navigate. Downloads from your sites are a joke. Links do not work, different mirrors have different files on them, and so on and so forth. Your ASUS Update software NEVER works and never connects to any servers. Your ASUS Probe software causes lockups. What is the point of using a monitoring program when it causes the computer to lock up? Additionally, your RMA process is rediculous and is basically the worse in the business.
There is a reason this board (and other ASUS boards) have gotten bad reviews. You are simply a bad company that has more business than they know what to do with.
Good luck to you. You'll need it.
I'm sure someone will try and flame me and bring up something about another mobo company that is bad, but these were just examples. All-in-all, ASUS releases products and expects us to be the guinea pigs.
a very well written report there and I recon it will ruffle a few feathers and I have to agree that they do release their product too early and develop with the aid of the people like us who basically do there development for them, although i think i must of been lucky for once as i still think this board rocks although the stock cooling is poor

I totally agree. For a 400+ mobo they should get their ass in gear for bios corrections. They posted so many crappy bioses that didn't fix anything and "CLAIMED" they did.
Hopefully this new bios is what I've been hoping for. If not then I might just go the commando route. Tho there's a pain in my side that I'm still funding them if that's the case. Maybe a good DFI 680I mobo will surface soon cuz it looks like it.
yeah i cant wait to see what that DFI board has in stock but i still like this striker even though ASUS is making us guinea pigs
its not just ASUS, all companies are rushing boarrds with beta bioses, incomplete products and they charge a premium for them, i mean take a look at every board that has been released, there is a new bios within a week of release, that should tell you something, they are selling us BETA boards, we pay high end prices for these high products and expect nothing less than close to perfect, thats what i expect............i remember the days of the DFI SLI-D's man those were as close as perfection gets.....take VISTA for example, another big name company charging a nice premium to consumers, while all they get is a incomplete OS with DRM......half of the games do not work, and to top it off, you get no hardware sound, direct 3d is cut off so hardware sound is useless....good job MS.

ok the asus website is messed. I went to the website to see if they have a new striker extreme bios and for some reason they gave me some bios for another mobo.........

go straight for 1002beta bios. Flashed with EZ flash here no probs, booted fine, set Memory voltage to correct value and off we went !!, no more Vcore lock woohoooo just a tiny drop that's all !!

Running at 400MHz / 1600 FSB with 466 memory. CPU Vcore set at 1.5625 BIOS and reading 1.55 on Asus PROBE.
Which is what i needed to achieve 3.6GHz. I am now- totally happy with this board :)
Nope just the inverted, you can set any voltage you want now like with 0402 bios minus the large droop. Eg I have to set 1.4250 in bios to get 1.4 under load on my mobo to help my E6600@3600 stabilize.
This bios is realy good to me hope it is too other users :banana:
I gave 1002 a try and so far its been awsome. The only little quirk I've found with it is the 1.2VHT sometimes reads all over the place jumps from 0v to 1.5v when its actually at 1.25v.
This bios is 0802380213091283 times better than the 0701 that i was using. The voltages have definatly been unlocked. I've noticed quite a bit of vdroop but its nothing compared 2 wut i was getting b4.
Another problem i've noticed is that when i use "core temp" it always says its actually a good 4C cooler than what probe is reading to me. Which temp should i trust?
When i touch the heat pipes they are not even warm.
Hi , i am using the 02151 revision dated 02/14/2007 is that the same as the 1002 :confused:
It's exactly the same one as the last BETA I had (02151)
New problemon the horizon for some users, anyone running 4gigs of Corsair Dominator modules ? many can't get the rig to boot with 2 pairs of these not matter what they try each pair works fab individually but not with 4gigs...

The 1002 bios is letting me go 3.6ghz easily but for some reason it's a lot hotter than my buddy's computer with similar specs. I'll try to reseat it again but that's gonna b really anoyying getting around all those heat pipes.
I'd like to think that someone worthwhile read my letter/complaint to ASUS and got some of those BIOS writers on the ball.
My board is still dead, but i'll give it a shot as soon as a replacement arrives.
PS- Anyone used a Willem EEPROM programmer to flash this BIOS?
Bachus can you run 4 gigs of ram at eg 1600fsb /800 ram speed ? tried loosening timings, upping voltages, etc... all works fine till 1200fsb/800 then it goes mad and BSOD; lockups, reboots,... tried several timings, voltages,...
Would be nice if you can give us some pointers. Some peeps have loads of issues running dominator rams too in 4 gig combo :( with an overclocked CPU (forget to mention that) some work fab at stock FSB speeds, some can't even get stock to work.
Talked to Ram guy and he told me to set up ram speed at 667fsb , that indeed works, but kindda :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty solution in regard of the costs of the dimms...
I would love to run 1600FSB and 800 ram speed but at the moment on my board that's a no go ....

Please explain this process a little bit more if possible. Are these just options in the BIOS to enable? I have the P5N32-E SLI Plus MB BIOS 0602.
Anybody, to remove the HP assembly... Is there a way to take them off and still reattach them later or does removing them ruin the pegs?
