Well... honestly I think there'll be only one real thing left if you want "the best" block: Buy a couple of "known to be good" blocks, and see which one you like best. Maybe there's a performance gain, rather not, but there might be something else that might bring you to choose one block over the other.
On the other side, one can be sure that most modern blocks would do a good job. Maybe "belief" is the trick to get the best block :D The mind can move mountains...

That was never a problem for Joe at OCF or BillA. Joe just put up a disclaimer that he worked for a company over at Overclockers and everybody knew that Bill was working with/for Swiftech. Sound data is all people care about. Well, it's all they should care about.

ok so whats this with the storm rev2 getting clogged?
just bought all my watercooling kit parts and i got the storm rev2..
so whats this about getting clogged. I'm using the Swiftech green coolant w/distilled water
Hehehe... watch out for Swiftech Hydrx (that green coolant).. its most notorious for eventually clogging the Storm hehe.. Storm blocks need to be maintained every other month for optimal efficiency. Even the tinest of particles can clog up the impingement jets. If half the jets are clogged, you are going to have a hard time with your water cooling.
If you haven't used your bottle of Hydrx yet, then don't :) If you have, then wait till the next time you change fluid and try Zerex or Pentosin G11 :)
For the record, I have tried upteen number of times to convince myself that a Storm Rev 2 is a better block than the Apogee on my QX6700. I have failed. In fact, for me under my conditions (which would be different from anyone else's), the Storm Rev 2 is at best the equal of the Apogee all things being equal, and in most instances generates about 1 degree C higher cpu load temperature. For all my other cpus, the Storm continues to triumph all other water blocks I have ever used.

IanY - I have had my G5 in operation for about 2 years now - not once has it ever clogged. In fact, before I built the green rig it was running for about 1 year without me opening it. Has always been crystal clean.
well i guess someone had some junk in their trunk and this distilled water or hydrX was contaminated
@iany: Well, that must be quite some pain in the ***... Why don't you put a small filter in the loop or try a different coolant then?

Yes, the PITA factor is there. However, a lot of it is my anal-ness and I actually enjoy maintaining my machines lol I just bought a filter from McMaster, with inspiration from PhillyBoy's pictures. He highly recommended it. I have learnt not to use Hydrx and now run on Zerex, but intend to try some Pentosin.Quote:

Only for quadcore's they are.
Aren't result with an IHS pretty much the same? And besides, the only quadcore that we have seen in practice it a Core 2 Quad, which is build up out of 2 seperate dies, so I'm not sure if that quadcore part is of any value.
