Anyone else having issues with installing the ASUS update? I cannot get it to install, keeps giving me errors BIOSINFO.DLL??
installed using the intel site chipset drivers for me but I've read post where some had to install the asus chipset drivers to get this program to install
People are asking a few questions so I'll put up this final post.
first of all you need watercooling on the cpu to keep stability. If you can't keep temps under 75 degrees during dual Orthos for 8 hours, stability will be difficult. For Superpi things can be tight as overall stability is not of concern.
Before I start a flame war, everyone has their own opinions of stability, just go with what you like, live and let live..
Ram throttle is off
Vcore 1.53-1.55 (bios)
FSB term no higher than 1.4
MCH 1.8
ICH 1.2
Leave your ram timings on spd if you can, they may run looser than spec, but that does not matter. When you have experimented with spd and studying memset you go and adjust things on manual to get further/tighter if you can
You have to think outside of the box with this new platform, things are still being worked on. Ram speeds can be tight for Superpi, but for pushing Orthos 8 hours you often have to run looser than spec at higher fsb's.
People keep emailing me asking for the bios, please do not ask. I will not post my findings here again, I'm afraid.
Linflas my friend, yes the board is great, thanks for recommending it
I can do exactly what I have done here with 0307 bios too.
Don't try to copy other people's ram timings or run at spec just to get an oc at higher fsbs (you may be able to, but not all ram works well on every motherboard you need to have a flexible mind), you gotta be prepared that you may have to run loose if you want long term OC tests. For Superpi you can run real tight if you like. Diffferent things require different measures.

Here it is!

I cannot test it today because of that my floppy-drive is drying today. My cat spilled coffee in it...
I did the update with Asus Update (Update BIOS from a file). Worked like a charm. :)Quote:

Well, I can raise the multipler to 12 (stock is 10). If I raise it higher it automaticly lowers to 12. Maybe I missed something...(?) With BIOS 0004 and 0005 this was no problem.
Also, I can run the FSB with atleast 10MHz higher frequence. Maybe it does not sounds like much but for me it is a big difference. From 310 to 320 without problems, will try higher later.
Disabling one core does exactly as it says. I get three cores instead of four. It would have been great if it would have disabled 1, 2 or 3 cores after choice.
The vCore still drops when I put it over 1.6v.
The temperature sometimes seems to 'jump' about 30C° in BIOS. I might have missed this in earlyer BIOS-versions...
I also noticed the same, but for me it goes back to 13 if I set it to 14 or 15.Quote:

With 0005 I could set multiplier higher than 14.

Bay:)
Is this relevant to our Core 2 Duo chips?
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256
yes it is!
looks to be a gaming issue....and possibly the power stepping for the cpu...if it is disabled in the bios this might not be the big problem as described in the hotfix.
Most of the C2D overclocking threads have us disabling anything Speed Stepping or power C1 (power management) related right off the bat anyway. Since my P5W DH won't let me adjust CPU voltage with either of those enabled anyway.......
My P5B box has them disabled to. So My guess is for those of us who have voided our warranty anyway, it becomes a non-issue
I upgraded from 0005 to 0408... and i lost 24hr prime stability :(. in fact i lost 15 minute prime stabiltiy. I'm not a big fan of this bios version.
0005 is still the best.
I had some fun with the disable core option though. Could up the FSB another 30 to 430 and still be prime stable.

0005 bios would not recognize my USB 2.0 drive when booting (0004 and 0408 were ok); so, in effect, i would not be able to recover my OS since my images are stored on the USB 2.0 drive.
@ Simon: Where did you find bios: 0502 ?
You already got a link by Romses.Quote:

I don't think I could boot at any settings with vcore that low.Quote:
