Vtt should always be around 1/2 of Vdimm..
The problem is when you connect the 3.3v wire directly to vdimm you have a chance the Vtt won't track and you'll get poor results..
I built myself a separate Vtt/Vdimm supplie for my nf7 (also because the one on the board was evaporated).. It's very easy, use 2 OPAMPS some resistors and 2 power mosfets.. With here and there a capacitor and a Zenerdiode for reference voltage it's very stable, I've been using this for more then 2 years now without problems..
You can just regulate Vdimm to what you want by turning a trimmer, and the fet's are powered from +5v:D
