it's because your memory is SPD branded at PC2700 (even if it's 3000 or 3200)....board won't allow <3200 memory to run 1:1 (2:1 DR400) ... same as K8V Dlx.......Quote:

Why does my crappy mem runs at 160mhz while i checked the ddr400 divider ... when i choose 1:1 i get 100mhz :S
And my AGP/PCI locks doesnt seem to work (bios 1005.020) .. when i enable it i get the nice womans voice that says CPU failed due to CPU overclock ...
And clockgen doesnt seem to like me because i cant change any clocks :S
very weird all in all :)

Now if I can just figure out why MAX Vddr is 3.15v and then locks up desktop??Quote:

maybe theres overvolt protection or over current protection that you need to disable somehowQuote:

for you guys on s939, are u noticing some OCing restriction when using 2x512mb versus 2x256mb?
No it doesn't fit. The only decent one that sort of fits on the a8v is the microcool. I did put the thermalright one on the Abit AV8 though.Quote:

I haven't tried 2x256, but Sierra's flys on 2x256 compared to most of the others so far on 2x512, but may be coincidence.Quote:

did you try the Swiftech? And I haven't seen any "final" verdicts on the v2000 lian li case.... I know you've had yours for a while now, what's the grade?Quote:

Charlie, I saw something the mbmod section that someone said they got the pin6 to ground vdimm mod to work if they set the vdimm to auto. Have you tried that with your mod?
heres someone with a8v asus and the swifty chipset cooler on the NB
http://homepage1.nifty.com/kubokubo/...d/a8v-d/09.jpg
didn't try swifty. There are a couple caps real close to the nb on the asus.Quote:

V2000 is awesome. I love having the compartments and nothing cramped up. Just need to add a couple fans here and there for optimal air flow.

Abit off topic, (pun intended), but is there any reason to up the voltgage on the NB or SB or HTT since I have these settings in the bios?
I just saw it today.Quote:

Too bad it flaked out on me, started with the mentioned above hot reboot issue were when I rebooted it aways would go amber on the monitor and i`d have to unplug the p/s to boot again and now has degraded to the point were on air at auto detect and std or underclocked CPU it will not even load the OS without corrupting the screen and locking up. Reboot with the restart button and amber light on the monitor, pull the power cord and put it back in and it boots right back up and gets so far (never the same place twice) and locks up with a corrupted locked screen.
No.....doesn't work on mine....in fact, changing the resistance with it set to auto, doesn't even change the Vdimm, not a bit... just sticks at 2.63vQuote:

I think I'm going to RMA my Mushkin PC4000's.
What are the best memory modules (2x512) that will run at at least 250MHz (DDR 2:1 in bios) with the lowest timings @ 2.8V max ?
Thanks...
Too bad, was hoping it would allow for some higher vdimmQuote:

Well from what I understand, guys....the only sticks that MAY fo that.... would be the OCZ 3700EB, 2 x 512mB.Quote:

They'll probably do 250ish at 3-2-2-7-11-16......

muhaha i have 2x512 of lvl2 and just bought 2x512 of 3700EB from excaliberpc.com

The Corsair XL's or OCZ's version of the same are agood bet for low lat at ddr500 compared to most.Quote:

xgman you think they are better than the EB?
I haven't used the EB's so I don't really know. I think EB's may react better with higher voltage and the XL's better with lower voltage available.Quote:

The EB's will probably do 3-3-2 at worst where the XL will do 2.5-3-3...I will let you decide what is faster ;)
so my hopes and dreams of 3-2-2-5 on my Hellfire Modded Max3 is pretty likely unless i get some duff modules. Any truth to manfacturer problems on the 3700EB?
The Issue is the IC's have to be speed binned...we have 3700 again so there is no issue at the moment.Quote:

I however prefer the 3500EB....which have have good stock of also ;)
Hmm... XL @ 215mhz 2-2-2-7.. vs.. 3700EB @ 256mhz 3-3-2-10-11-16.
That should be one hellva comparison.
BTW, I luv my 3700EB, best ram i've ever bought. Considering I skipped the BH-5 craze.
why do you prefer the 3500EB from most of the users i have seen they wouldnt hit 250 unless u put 3.0+ through them.
P.S. i called your offices today and the ADJ-520 PSU;s are gonna be avallible by end of week next week!
Hmm. Why do you prefer the lower rated ones  ?Quote:

After reading the Anandtech rave, and some other comments about it with A64's, I was just considering buying some 3700EB for my upcoming socket 939 A64 rig. I would appreciate your thoughts on why you feel the 3500EB is prererable. Your opinion in this matter is highly regarded. Thanks.

Ok....i've been reading this thread the whole time. I just bought a pair of 3700 EB's from Excaliber PC so i can tell you they're in stock there. I wanna see some posts with 1gb sets. I'm ready to move on from my A64 3400. I have over $1k in memory sitting on my desk, and it's time to put it to use. My C0 stepping is going to Ebay, i've had enough. I'm sure other peope here wanna see some runs on 1gb sets too. Bring it on people :)
let ya know wednesday :thumbsup:
ill get my 2x512 3500 EB's this thursday or friday :) so ...
I would like to know as well please.Quote:

still i dont get it why my clockgen wont allow me to change clocks :(

it won't allow you to lower clocks?
I can't seem to be able to change my clocks as well.
My ClockGen looks exactly the same as yours F|apDro|`.
you using the beta a8v clockgen posted earlier in this thread?

OCZ 3700EB @ 250, 2.8V.......... sweeeeet.
I'm thinking with 3.0-3.10v that stuff'd be up near 260-270. And that's 1gB of ram, lol.......... awesome!
C
yes im happy with it. im hope'n for 260~270 at 3-2-2-8 with 3.0~3.1vdimm
Mongoose,
You should try that new Cooler Master A64 HS/F:
http://www.viperlair.com/reviews/cas...r6/index.shtml
the hyper "6"
I bet it'd be worth 100mHz for you. You can run 2 x medium speed 80mm fans, push/pull..... it's supposed to be about as good as entry level water cooling. In the review it spanks the Thermalright SP family by 2-3C
C
egads i'd rather let a bald blind 80 year old russian man shave my sack with a strait edge razor:eek: than put that in my case. Besides ive never really liked coolermaster products anyway.
lol ive got a dtek WW and im waiting on my JPI v5 and pair of MHQ dual 120 rads. but if soulsend doesnt respond soon i'll go to autozone and get 2 '77 pontiac boneville heatercores and braze barbs on it myself.
But you'd better use 2 fans because if you only use 1 like in the picture with the MSI board you'll be blowing hot air straight into your PSU intake fan. Why didn't they design it so it could install like on the P4 board where it blows the air right out the rear exhaust? That kinda sucks man!
Thank you Mongoose, that's a visual that I could have lived without......now excuse me while I go take a Prozac ;)Quote:

Well i decided to jump on the bandwagon. Ordered an FX-53 939 retail from the Egg along with a second 74 gb raptor and found the Asus A8V deluxe in stock @ Ajump.com. Haven't ever dealt with them b4, but looks like they have a good ResellerRating.com history. The boards had been out of stock there, so hopefully this is a new shipment with the newer version. Now...i can finally play with my 1gb Mushkin lvl 2's, 1gb 3700 EB's, and crazy fast clockin' 256 X 2 OCZ limited editions. :slobber: Can't wait for next weekend....either this will keep me busy....or the hot 24 year old girl visting from Poland that i have a date with this weekend ;) .
250~260x11 is all the more my cooling is going to hold i imagine, and if not i can run async up to 275ht. So if i should have gotten a FX for the money i spent why did you buy a 3700+?Quote:

Nice.....
Charlie being thoughtful holding both arms outstretched as arms on a balance "FX-53 rig with lots of ram to play with ....mmmmmmmm.....and hot eastern european honey coming in on Friday hmmmmm....."
I can't make THAT call
instinct says BOTH!
lol... I just picked up a cooler master heatsink for my 9700 pro (Juliahma or something like that.. P4 heatsink with heatpipes).
Got my 2x512 OCZ 3500 EB .. running now 2,5-2-2-11 @ 220FSB .. more higher i cant go because of no agp/pci locks :( ..
I wanna play with my EB's :hehe: :(
Ok i have a question will the a64 RBX fit on the S939... I think it will , but i want to be sure :D

I ordered the 2x512 OCZ PC3700EB's. They should be here on Wednesday.

This thread has dried up. Did everyone move on to the Gigabyte board? :D
I got the 2X512 3700EB's. They max out around 251 @ 2.8v which a few ticks lower than my 2X256 sticks. But even at 251, they seem to run faster. :) I found that if I push them too hard, I get corruption in 3D proggies.
no way.......Quote:

I'm just at a point where I can't do any more until I get some new parts and pieces........
I'll have my reprogrammed BH5 back in about a week...
I'm thinking about going to Fry's today and getting 2 x 512mB sticks of OCZ 3200EB (they don't have 3500 or 3700) and seeing how it does. Then I'm just waiting for an X800xt and THEN I'll make some noise :D But for now, I don't know WHY someone would go the the GB board??
C
Can't wait for you to get an X800XT, charlie. I'm looking forward to the noise. :D
charlie I wont lie to ya CH-5 corsair pc3200ll 1.2 2x512 and use 3.2v-3.4v with the cap mod from PSU like macci uses
1:1 all the way forget that 5:4 mess 13x255=3315mhz is your friend with 1-800mhz HT :)
I need the 3.3v direct mod for the A8V!!!!!!!!!
I'm gonna' try around 13 x 255, 1:1 on the BH-5.......the BH-5 programmed at 2700 were clean up to about 245 @ 3.13v running 5:3, now that they're being re-programmed to SPD 3200, I will be able to run them 1:1. But really need 3.4-3.5v to get 255 from these sticks. But I agree, 13 x 255 = 3315 at 1000mHz HT, 2-2-2-5-7-16......will put up some AWESOME Car High and Lobbies :D.
C
what suck though is 3250mhz fx53-940 with 9800xt and old 3.5 cats scored
170+ car high
202fps lobby high
but now these new cards x800p/x800xt have to use the 4.4-4.7 cats so it will take about these same fx53-940 clocks on 939 to get the system scores you would have got with the 940pin+9800xt+3.5 cats :(
I still think a driver mod should be worked out so get those system tests back up to par with the 9800 line :)
then
180 car high
220 lobby high
well im wait'n on a x800xt to get in stock and for JP to send me my damn V5! 250x11 1:1 on water will be about all its good for without one of those ocz boosters or a vdimm mod. Im going to wait i think untill the dfi nf3 ultra comes out and see what its got for vdimm, if its got 3.2 or so i'll take a shot on it and see if i can break into that 260~275HT 1:1 and 2800ish mhz. one way or another i'll have a x800xt ordered monday/tuesday and i'll have it thursday/friday with some 30k runs.
Because in the u.k. I haven't seen anyone with a functioning set of locks on the A8V yet:mad:Quote:

Legion - im in the UK and i'll have a A8V in a week, i'll post to say if it has the lock on it.
...and hello everyone, my first post  sorry to bother you all with my first post but can some one help me with this being as you guys seem to be some of the few people i can get a good answer from...
i need 2gb, should i buy two 1gb memory sticks for the A8V to have 1T enabled, or should i buy four 512mb sticks? i think i would have to have 2T then? which is slower... but the two 1gb memory sticks would have slower timings like 3-4-4-8... what would work out to have better performance??
I tried 4 corsair xms3500c2 512mb sticks and could only get it to work with 2T enabled. I'd suggest running two 1gb sticks if you really need the 2gb.Quote:

Just got my shippment from Newegg three days early...wow. It's a CAACC stepping. Has anyone noticed a differance in performance between any of the steppings? UPS ground says my board won't be in untill monday. Hopefully it'll be here by Friday atleast.
Here are a couple of new benches. Nothing spectacular like what the phase change/cascade guys are getting, but not bad either for 2640MHz. :)

Sounds nice and fresh.......
what is it, about 0421-0422??
C
WELL, here it is guys........
Some of you have asked for final pic's of the Vcore and Vddr...
So here it is! Remember I'm NO Hell-Fire, so don't hassle me for the noobish quality of my mods :D
First the Vcore:
and the Vddr.....
now remember, you HAVE TO pull off R167, and solder a 100 Ohm VR to it's solder pads. Set the VR to 20 Ohms to start and adjust from there. Careful though, voltage climbs QUICKLY!
C
and the Vddr.....Quote:

now remember, you HAVE TO pull off R422, and solder a 10K Ohm VR to it's solder pads. Set the VR to 2.15K Ohms to start an dadjust from there. This mod only works when the Vddr is set to 2.8 in BIOS and then it will allow Vddr up to 3.13-3.15v. Any more than this and the rig will CRASH and LOCK and FREEZE. Next mission: find direct 3.3V wire mod from PSU to DIMM's.... or wait for OCZ gadget :D
Thanks charlie,
I'll start on it ASAP!:D
Everything Should Be Here In a Few Days!

Those mods are nowhere near newb in design bud.
Those are very nicely done indeed.
I give you 2 :up::up:.
thx.....
I am not as familiar with these boards, but I take it running a wire on the back of the board from the 3.3v rail pin to the Vdimm solder point on the dimms is out of the question??
I answered your PM as well with a different idea.
Talking about steppings... checking the fotos I took of my FX last night... I think my stepping was CAABC 0420... any good do we know?
That's the same as mine, CAABC, 0420...........Quote:

CAABC 0418 here. (retail) Tried an OEM CAAEC 0422 which was not as good. I think the one that starts with an "S" is the best overclocker of the bunch, but they seem to be rare.
uhhhhhhh . . could it be because I had 2 dud A8V boards in a row and an Abit AV8 with no working multis and I am more than a little (I could have said "a bit", but I am in no mood for puns) disgusted with the way these via boards were sent out pre-maturely.Quote:

I'll have my reprogrammed BH5 back in about a week...
I'm thinking about going to Fry's today and getting 2 x 512mB sticks of OCZ 3200EB (they don't have 3500 or 3700) and seeing how it does. Then I'm just waiting for an X800xt and THEN I'll make some noise :D But for now, I don't know WHY someone would go the the GB board??

xgman,
yeah, you've had a bad time, certainly. Asus did a bad job with this mobo. All the boards in Europe are bad and the USA "OJ" models seem a bit inconsistent. Mine is the latest one on XS.Org, an OJ3276....maybe the latest ones are best?

ok... so I got all my setup running with my Mach II... I started clocking the other night and noticed that my FX wasn't performing as I'd liked... 2.7-2.8GHz max on the Mach II.
So I had the down thought that I may have a bad chip... so a little disheartened I settled for 2.75GHz..
.. then today I was monitoring things.. and my vCore jumps from 1.856v to 1.776v... this is with no volt mods and the vCore set to max (1.8v) in the BIOS
any known issues with similar things??
ALSO: I'm from Europe... and my board has no locks :(
tc,
well get the volts down! At 1.7 it should be good for 3gHz.
try to eliminate the cpu as the bottleneck. Boot up at 14 x 200, is it ok? Try 15 x 200 @ 1.7v. And where are you getting voltage numbers? The asus probe? that thing is complete garbage! Read from a molex :D
What's your complete setup? And with no locks the board will limit your fsb OC. Try the high 14x multi and go from there, 201, 205, 207, 210, etc...
PLUS, what temp is your m2 set at before it boots?
