Welcome to the 'fold' :wtf:
 Howdy GoThr3k :)
21s/frame is that good btw??
thx for the warm welcome :)
are you using the GUI client or the text-only console?
Gui
21s/frame seems incredibly quick and not consistent with the throughput I can get. My best performing project, #1495, 'Min. Time' per frame is 4mn 56s!!! Nothing like 21s/frame, so something is amiss here. @Sparky/Jimwah, please explain?Quote:

There are others too, but this one I believe is the most popular (although I may be wrong here).
Perhaps the GUI will get more accurate the longer it runs  but yeah it doesn't sound like its working on the same scale as the text-only client (eg 100 Frames, each varying from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the type of unit it's folding) - I think people have mentioned similar occurences with the SMP GUI reporting funny frame times. I think the majority of us use the text-only client, often installed as a service, and could easily help you out setting that up
The time/frame that the GUI reports is never comparable to the time/frame that the console reports. You have to look in the FAHlog to be able to tell us anything useful when using the GUI client.
The numbers of frames in the GUI client varies from about 50 to 50,000 (the highest I've seen). My 2.65GHz A64 does about 4 seconds / frame on the 50k work units. Others are almost an hour for a frame. I like the GUI client on this machine since it is the easiest to shut down for gaming.
The console client installed as a service (like in the directions in my sig) doesn't need shut down when gaming. It will just fall to the background and not affect the game at all, and automatically keep going after the CPU is free again. I play games with the CPU client running all the time :)Quote:

Hello all, just signed my old rig up for this program. p4 3.2ghz with 6800gs pci-e. is the gpu client an addition to the regular version, or is it a one-or-the-other type deal?
Ah, your out of luck along with myself my friend. The gpu client does not include Nvidia cards, only ATI. We have to run the cpu client and thats all we get. Thanks for joining.Quote:

I'm in
QX6700 now dedicated to the task 24/7
 Welcome aboard mate
Welcome new folders!
I've decided to join the F@H team with a few of my computers.
I have a Conroe system running at 3.8ghz, a Merom laptop, and a newly built Home Server which is running a beta version of Microsoft's upcoming Windows Home Server.
Is the F@H client friendly to servers? I will try it out but if it doesn't, I won't bother.
I'm excited to help out the team and the greater good. Thanks to the leaders of this within XS!
:welcome: to the fold Danger30Q! It's great to have you and the all the other new folders on board! :toast:
 Hi Danger30Q, F@H should be fine on your server OS, it's quite a straightforward app, all it really needs is CPU time & a network connection, it shouldn't interfere with anything else.
I'm in. ;) Was folding on my PS3 before I sold it, but figured I should run it on my PC since it's always on.
Good to hear Eluzion. Fold on... ;)
we definitely need a PS3 folding farm. the top 5 threats are powered by ps3s....
Welcome to the team Eluzion
@justin c they are just threatening due to sheer numbers at the moment, like this team http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...php?s=&t=54376 page after page of active users, not with massive ppd. We could do with some of that :D
Yes our main weakness at the moment is because we are so few people - we actually have a very nice output for the number of people on the team. Ofcourse this is mainly due to angra who pulls about 1/4 - 1/3 the weight for our entire team ;)
more people are needed for the cause! :)
btw i'll get a c2d more soon, lets see if i can fit a folding client on it ;)
I have an old computer with a 2.8Ghz P4 that is mostly idle during the day while I'm @ class. Guess I'll put that time to good use now.
:welcome:
Just joined today, hoping i can help the cause... and score you guys some points, it will be running whenever my machine is on, which is about 16 hours a day.
Welcome Mad Pistol & ForeverAgain (sounds like a movie title putting those names together) :p:
If you run in to any problems, or want to poke fun at someone you're about to overtake, make a post or contribute to any of the threads in here
I do have a few questions about configuring/optimizing the program. IS there any settings i should set for the program to perform any better? i have the "Allow receipt of work assignments and return of results greater than 5MB..." under connections. Also, i set up the screen saver under the display settings, do i have to do anything else than just tick that box? And last, on the machine this is running on i have a Pentium D dual core, if i set it up to run on both cores, will it have any drastic effects on my machine?
Thanks!
Have a look at the link in my sig to some setup guides, or some of the stickied threads around here; the text-only client is likely to improve performance, and you will need to configure 2x folding clients (with slightly different settings - ie machine ID's)to use both cores at once.
Have a read of the threads, dont be daunted, it looks like a lot of setting up, but it's generally quite straightforward & we'll do what we can to help out :)
I just joined started folding for xtreme. my username is "foamy". ill try to keep my comp on as much as i can :D
:welcome:
Which client are you running? On that rig I would suggest running the SMP client :D
Welcome sephiroth, nice rig mate :D
First post..yaay :D.
I've decided to join up with my completely uber PC that totally blows everyone else's away ;).
U/N is kaze06 :).
I will most likely be able to throw F@H onto a couple of other rigs to make up for my complete lack of awesomeness.
:welcome: :D
Haha Kaze06, thats the spirit mate, welcome to the team, join the fun, you are most welcome :D
:welcome:
:welcome: Kaze06... I assume you're a friend of Sparky's (<-that you're from Ohio) ? :)
Just starting to sign my computers up - 4 of em.
Chris
Great, welcome phcjpp! :toast:
Well I just dedicated both my cores to folding, the machines running 24/7 anyways, always thought it was a waste just letting it stand there, now it has a purpose!
:welcome: to the fold, new folders!
On another note, I've got 3 new WU's - project 2614 (Gromacs33 - 287pts). For some reason, even after multiple 'Download New Projects' on FahMon, their details are 'N/A' in FahMon. Anyone know any reason why it is taking so long to update/retrieve the project details?
Always great to see new faces @ XS folding team  A warm welcome to Exal, phcjpp & Kaze06 :D
K folding for you guys now ...
greetz from Belgium
:welcome:
:welcome:
Yes! :welcome: New Folders :toast:
I know beta (like p2610 which I've been folding recently) projects aren't displayed at project summary... but p2614 still is at psummary already
What if one could manually set the details to the fahmon, if updating isn't working between fahmon and stanford servers
I'm on my second one now and still no details in FahMon
A strange quirk too; instead of just specifying the percentage complete as '(XX)' for this project it specifies '(XX percent)'.
I know it's 287pts and that it's NOT a 'nice' WU.
I've been on a 250,000 step WU for a day and a half now. 75%...should be done soon. Major points ftw.
:woot: Just started folding today for the first time! :welcome:
Im on my x2 4000+ at 2.7 running on both cores and my 1800xt.
Don't know what most of you are talking about and need to learn this lingo lol
I'll try to get a few more pcs running it and get a couple of friends. I tried registering for wcg but the registration is down.
:)
:welcome: druggedpolak :)
@DruggedPolak, :welcome:
...and don't worry about WCG, get yourself established folding for XS and look into that down the track :hehe: ;)
i just put my ps3 to fold for team xs
sweet, glad to have you bronx :toast:
I'm looking into purchasing some cheap used P4 systems from Ebay to set up for Folding. Is processor speed the most important thing to look at? Or should I consider type of P4 (HT or not) and Ram size. Anything else I should consider?
Thanks!
HT doesn't make a lot of difference, heard that you can put two CPU clients on but I don't know how well it performs.
If you can get your hands on C2D or AMD systems that would be better for power consumption and heat output.
Hey Datalogger, running 2x client on P4's with HT was alleged to increase output by 20%, compared to just running 1 client. Athough Stanford always prefer a quicker turnover of units, and prefer you to run 1 client on HT boxes; and with P4's just go for high Mhz & big cache, check the specs of chips on the Intel sSpec Finder :) RAM size is not too crucial on the vanilla client, most of my rigs have had 512mb but I wouldn't expect any problems running with 256mb to be honest.
Personally I'd look at a budget AMD x2 or even C2D system, in place of a few P4's, however if you are hell bent on getting older kit off ebay, I'd go for Semprons or A64's, for that gen of chips AMD have better power/performance imo. Having run a few benchmarks in the past, my Sempron 1.8Ghz/256k(iirc) is a better cruncher than my P4 2.66/512k. Hope that helps man
Just picked up a PS3 and just needed to get the XS team number, look forward to putting one of my machines to a GOOD use ;) :p:
I got 20 iMac Core 2 Duo's running wit my name and Team XS! I managed to snag the 8th position in only a few months.
P.S. Where do you get those siggy folding things?
Hey mawsoccer, glad to see you pop in here finally! :D Very nice output you've got!
Put that with the IMG tags around it and you get this :)Code:http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/sigs/sigimage.php?un=mawsoccer&t=36362
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...soccer&t=36362
:toast:
Welcome mawsoccer... currently the top producer of our team :toast: :welcome:
BTW: Very nice nick that Druggedpolak has :D
Haha, I should have those and possibly 12 more at my high school for two more years. (I graduate in 2009) I might also be able to get around 20 iMacs for folding at my old elementary school!
This is mainly a PC forum, but I must say, DAMN those iMacs coupled with an SMP client can really do some massive folding!
Great work mawsoccer; that some serious SMP thrashing there :D
Hello, I signed up on the website a while ago, and read about folding, and how it can help cure disease. I didnt think much of it, until recently I was diagnosed with a rare form of heart disease, which has no cure at the moment. I dont know if this folding can help find a cure for that, but maybe it can find cure's for other needy children. I have an AMD 3000+ Venice, and a 6600GT graphics card, and would like to know mor einformation about folding, and how I can get into this whole folding thing. Thanks, and let me know if you need more info, or how to get started on this.:)
Hello... and welcome to the folding, to team.
Yes, we cannot be sure if f@h finds a cure to your disease soon enough... which I'm sorry to hear you got this. But anything (=any cpu cycles) helps we tend to say which I actually really think is true. If everybody would fold with their cpus the data output would be huge.
http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html <- there you can download application and on jimwah's sig has couple of cool links move onto this. I suggest you setup a service install with normal 5.04 ("no nonsense") -client.
Maybe you are thinking sometimes: What are we actually work on? (<-DanEnsign's post #3)
:wtf:
:welcome: BCHurricane89. Sorry to hear about your heart disease :( Hopefully a cure is found soon, either through folding@home or through some other channel.
For information, check out http://folding.stanford.edu
For setup, in my sig is a link to how to get the CPU client running (which is the client you'd want to run).
I would like to start folding for this team, however, I ws previously folding for Overclock.net, and I am using teh WIndows console version of F@H. How do I change settings?
Hi firefox > IE :welcome:
I agree with your username :D
Right click on My Computer, select Manage. Go to Services and Applications, select services, and find FAH@C:etc.etc. in the list, select it, then hit Stop the service. Leave this window open, and put in "C:\FAH\FAH504-Console.exe" -configonly in the run command. Of course if you have FAH located someplace else than C:\FAH then put the right location in. Use the same settings you have been, except put in 36362 for the team number. Once you do that, go back to the computer management window and hit Start this service and from here on out you'll be crunching for XS :)
Hope this is what you needed and is helpful :toast:
I think that's the right attitude. I have a young son with type 1 diabetes and there's no cure for that yet, they're not even sure of the cause (this is a different disease than the more common type 2 condition which can be related to diet). I just found out about folding. The Stanford project is not specifically working on diabetes but if it helps any kid, it's worth it. Plus, I figure the more science learns about the way the body works, the better the outlook for all diseases. Take care of yourself man!
just joined up. or do i have to run it by you guys first?
thx
No need to clear it with any of us, we never turn anyone away :) We've had some who joined and crunched for quite a while before we even heard a peep out of them.
I see a new name in our top 20 producers list, "wk127.0.0.1" come on out and say hi :welcome: :wtf:
Hi! I have an old P4 computer and I would like to use it for folding. The sistem is stable, but isn't passing the prime torture test (round error). Can I fold without problems or my results will be with errors?
Hmm if it isn't prime stable, it might not work too well to fold on. Long-term folding tends to be more intensive over the long run than prime is. Is it overclocked at all? RAM check out OK? I would try and get it prime stable before folding myself.
It is at default setting but undervolted at 1.125V because it is used in a silent pc. It passes prime test only if it is overvolted from 1.525 to 1.5875 or 1.6. Except prime, sistem is 100% stable (no reboots for days, even with s&m). I'm worring for folding accuracy not for sistem stability.
Well yes, that's what I meant, if the system isn't fully prime stable (no errors) it probably will have inaccuracies in the folding. What you could do is try it, monitoring it closely. If it causes an EUE (Early_Unit_End) then you'll need to stabilize it.
I am running my system for almost 5 days and FAH client didn't gave any errors (there are no errors reported in log file). Should I declare it stable for this kind of work?
Sure thing, keep going!
Just installed it on the new computer and got it running. Installing it on the old one now as well.
Edit: Old one has been folding for a while.. just added it to the team along with the new one.
Welcome to the club !!
new guy sounding off - 2 C2D systems going so far (4GHz & 3.2GHz) should I get ATI cards just for the GPU utilized F@H ability?
Trying to make a sig at liquid ninjas but I am having trouble - can someone halep me to make a graphic sig (image cropped from a XS wallpaper that someone posted -> http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/6826/xspaper1ii2.jpg
sorry but I just need a bit o' help here as I am new to this and if I stepped on toes just tell me and I will remove the image.
:welcome:
If you want maximum pointage go for two SMP clients, one on each PC. Or if you want maximum variety, go for 1 SMP client on one PC, an X1950 series card for the second PC to run the GPU client on, and one standard CPU client on the other CPU core of that second PC (the GPU client uses one CPU core to monitor and keep track of stuff). Up to you, and I would be happy to help you with any setup questions you may have :)
AFAIK you aren't stepping on any toes maxing your own sig. Are you trying to put your system specs in it or the F@H stats? If the system specs, I can help you with that. For F@H stats, I don't know how to make those appear on a custom background image, maybe someone else does.
Welcome to the team The Goat Eater... I'm afraid there's no easy way to extract that image to be a background for the stats.
I looked Liquid Ninjas option for a sig once (long time ago) and eventually went with teh original one: EOC that is ;)
And I would guess it's more convenient to fold only SMP clients without GPU client on top of that. Not sure about it... DAK1640 should be able to illuminate this if you're still interested...
Of course: :welcome: on board sergiu & cnumartyr too
Just find out about this: http://www.dynasig.net/howitworks.php ... haven't tried it yet (obviously), but it seems this ain't either have an option to use fully customized background image :(
i have already installed folding. and i am running it know perfectly but how do i join team 36362.
Have you already gone through the set-up where you could enter your name? There should be an option for a team number.
(+[]:), (that is a unique username :D) Are you running the text console client or a GUI client? For the console client, run the .exe with a -configonly flag on it and in there it asks what team number to use. For the GUI, um... heh I haven't used it for so long I forget how exactly  it is in the settings somewhere...
Just wanted to let you guys know...I'm folding for you guys :]
I have a dual core...and I was reading that in order to take advantage of both cores, I have to run the program twice. I have F@H installed in two different directories but I still can't get two clients to run at the same time. Any suggestions?
Welcome to the team LemniaAlsa:cool:
You are probably trying that with the GUI client?
You'll have to install it as a service when you want to run multiple instances. This guide will get you running in no time :)
You could also install the SMP client so you can check that one out too.
