can anyone tell me why as soon as I go above 8.0 in QPI and try go over 1600 with my memories I get POST blackscreens? other than that this config seems to be quite stable :)

At 7 7 7 20 ?

If I set timmings to 6 7 6 18 1T at 1600, systems only recognize 4Gb.

If I set to 7 7 7 21 1T at 1600 systems recognize 6Gb but isn't stable (error at 8 hour of prime95)

This is at 1,6 or 1,66 vdimm.

Is my Gskill Trident 2000Mhz faulty ? Or is compatibility with this mainboard ?

the most common issue i found that might be related to that is the way the CPU sits on the LGA pins.......

i usually try to clean the CPU pins with alcohol and spray cleaning spray in the socket if i get those issues and then just let the heatsink sit on it without tightening it hard...just enough for it to sit

power up the machine and load up settings with ram running at settings where the last channel used to disappear and see if it's ok...try reseating the CPU a few times....and then when good tighten the HS but dont overdo it.... :)

NH-D14, Venomous X, or wait for results on the new Prolimatech Armageddon.

D14 and VX you will need lower profile RAM if you plan on using all the slots. Ripjaws will fit though.

Are the GA X58A-UD3R any good? I have this board even tho I havent messed with it yet I havent played with oc in a long time and i7 seem pretty difficult to oc..

I am having 2 empty 1TB samsung F3's, the thing is that there are 3 options to connect these discs and form a raid volume im not 100% sure of the difference, Obviously im looking for the best performance, stability choice.

ICH10R controller, intel's southbridge chip,
2 Marvel SATA 3 600, which also seem to be able to coop with SATAII
2 Gigabyte SATA 2, on the schematics its seems like gigabyte have put their own controller infront of the ICH10 chip, to support JBOB or something.. I am not really sure why but to me its sounds like they are trying to say that their GSata is better than the standard one ICH circuit (Gigabyte exemtreme bla bla bla). Could It be worth to buy a cheap PCI-E raid controller seperatly?

If I set Gskill 3x2Gb 2000Mhz CL9 at 1600 and 7 7 7 20 1T with 1,5v (vDimm) my system is totally stable, but if I set higher vDimm (1,65 for example) with same settings, system is unstable.

What is my problem ?

My memory don't like higher voltages !!!!!

I finally did it. Lost the screwdriver right on the socket, and got a few broken and bend pins :rolleyes:. It had only 4GB RAM, but after a few useless attempt to fix it, it ended up with 2GB RAM. Re-sitting the CPU didn't help either. But that's OK, killing HW is a part of pushing (and rubbing) it to the limits, anyways. :p:

My good old DFI UT was laying around, and I'm using it for now. Maybe I get new MB later.

Thx guys :), but it's not a big deal, I've had a lot of fun with this MB, anyways.

Even tho that socket is too fine and sensitive, but I did it myself. I won't RMA it.

I liked this MB and would like to buy the same again, but it is always fun to try new stuff too. I need to decide soon.

Contact Gigabyte and see if they can replace the socket for a fee. It might be a better option than buying a whole new board.

I have been rock solid at 4.5 I have had several reformats due to corrupted Win7 trying to get to 4.6 but I think I will try again tonight with higher QPI/VTT.

My condolences goes out to you sam. I have one of this board comming real soon. My old GA-X58 Extreme melted my 24pin power supply socket so i RMA it and is now going with this board, the Extreme was a fine board but I believe this board is much better. I to like lowfat`s idea.

Yeah it is kind of pity, because this is a great MB and I had a lot of fun with it. But I've been asking for this by pushing (and rubbing) it even when it was working great at it's peak.
It was about time i damaged something actually, so it doesn't feel that bad.

i'll be running it with...

4.4ghz capable i7 920 (was stable on a P6t del v2 with its previous owner)
6gb crucial tracers- 1600mhz c8 blue
gtx295
possibly a PCIe soundcard in the future

all watercooled (will most likely buy the EK blocks later on) and will be using a swiffy XT on the cpu. mine is a "gigabyte compatible" model.

can you please tell me what are the moot points of this mobo? what are the things that you wish were better, so that i can see if this motherboard is for me.

Yes, I could not have done this without the UD7.

For example - the ability of the UD7 to allow oc of pcie speed was a big advantage.
The ability of the board to oc pci-e was one of the primary reasons I replaced my x58 extreme with the UD7 -

The UD7 is a great board, I probably could not have taken the WR without it.

Also, yes - my storage subsystem was a huge contributor - but that last ounce of speed that I needed (from that subsystem) came from the pci-e oc.

Idle = ~ 34 Celcius
Load = ~58-60 Celcius (20 runs of LinX)

Does anyone happen to know what the "safe" max voltage for IOH core? I was reading a guide that suggested to find your max bclk set IOH to 1.3v, is this the same voltage? On this Gigabyte UD7 it has an IOH core.

Change the above 2 settings to start with. You may need to up the vcore a bit also.

Da hell! I've never needed to go as high as 1.59V on the QPI/VTT man. I'm very certain that he doesn't need that much, I've done it with 1.4550V stable.

1.45v VTT for 4000MHz uncore? I dont think I could even get into windows at that voltage, let alone pass LinX. My 920 is a pretty crap batch though, I need 1.45v vCore for 4.3 LinX stable.

1.59V QPI/VTT is really high bro, I'm not even sure it's safe.

I need vtt=1.54V for 2000 cl9 but i prefer 1900 7-9-8 with vtt=1.42V :)

I was getting quite a loud high pitched squeal before I replaced my PSU. Also, some people have been able to stop the noise by enabling C3/C6/C7 support in BIOS.

I'm in search of a new board, but the price difference is pretty big (30+ euros) and as far as I know, the only 2 differences are the NB-heatsink and the amount of CPU-phases on the board, correct? How will this influence daily 24/7 air (and maybe in the future water) overclocking capability? If these extra phases won't bring any improvements without going subzero, I'd rather keep those 30 euros in my wallet. Thanks! :up:

@ Hooti3: I suggest using 20-25 runs of LinX to make sure it is really stable.

@ Musho: Unless you are playing with LN2 and pushing board to it's limits i don't think there is much difference... I know i'm happy with my X58A-UD5, took me seconds to OC to 4.0, haven't really tried pushing it further, but i recon it has headroom to go.

Is it even possible to achieve 4Ghz stable if you have 12GB of RAM? I've tried overclocking my i7 to 4Ghz but it seems impossible because I'm running 12GB at 1600Mhz.

Yes it's possible. I have 12GB stable at 4.326 using 2:8 divider on RAM. 206*21

My signature a little outdated. I am currently in Kingston KHX2000C9D3T1K3 3 x 2GB. I have not used the Corsair memory of this mobo:shrug:

Finally got my tj07, UD7 and 950 up and running. I know it's not a 920 but I hope I can still offer something back to the forum that I used extensively to get sorted. Got the 950 to pass OCCT at 4.6GHz HT on (23x200), together with 3DMark 03,06 and Vantage, but have not tried any LINX or Prime yet. If anybody is interested in my settings I can post them.

I was able to try a 960 but, like "OC Nub", was not impressed in the end (max 4.3 with very high Vcore and no HT).

Nice Rig NewHit, love the watercooling, definitely post up your settings as they are a good frame of reference for everyone and post your 3dmark compare links as well I would like to see how your crossfire performs :)

I am having issues with my OC and soundcard, cant seem to find the puzzle bit that directly affect the soundcard. Anyone know what parameters to look at? soon as I go above 3.9 soundcard is no longer detected by windows.

I'm still at bios F3h and my ram is deliberately set loose (spec is 77720 CR1)
The Vcore jump from 4.53GHz was the notable change, going from < +0.2000DVID to the +0.25000 below.

What would you guys advise. Pay 240 euros and go with the UD7, or save 30 euros and pay 210 for the UD5? I'm looking for a feature rich board with trifire support and the ability to run 4,5ghz on a 920 on watercooling. I know it would greatly depend on the processor batch, but the board has to be capable of it as well. The price different isn't _huge_, but it's still significant if it won't actually improve anything for me. I'm probably not even going to be able to use the huge NB-heatsink from the UD7 with a trifire setup, right?

you will be able to use the huge NB-heatsink for the UD7 with a trifire setup. Nothing in the way for that. I would go for the UD7:up:, since I have that board.
But if you go for the UD5 make sure you get the GA-X58A-UD5 and not the GA-X58-UD5 or else you will not be able to achieve 4.5Ghz without Hardmodding it.

Thanks, yeah, I was aware of that, thanks for pointing it out, though :) SATA3 and USB3 is nice as well ;) I wouldn't mind going with the UD7 if it's worth it, but I don't like throwing away 30 euros to just to have their "best" board. If the UD5 clocks just as well, it isn't really worth it, as they both have the same features. Is it worth it? :)

I just got a 920 D0 from Microcenter, batch 3938B010. I haven't had much time to mess around with it yet, but I clocked it up to 219 BCLK on 1.2625 volts (201 BCLK on 1.20). I am still working on the overclock, so my multiplier is set to 12, but I'm looking for my max BCLK. This is LinX stable, but is there anything I can do to get BCLK any higher? All I've done besides pump Vcore up to 1.2625 is nudge QPI/Vtt from 1.15 to 1.18 and IOH from 1.1 to 1.14. This is my first 1366 overclock, so I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm trying to leave as much alone as I can. Here are the settings I've changed, everything else is default.

4.3 is about as high as I was able to get the 960 also. Weird thing is it passed LinX at 4.0ghz on stock vcore. I am glad to be back on the 920.
