What is the cheapest unlocking board you can buy right now?
Ezekiell, IMHO the GA-MA785GM-US2H is one of the lowest priced unlockers i am aware of (<90 CAN$)... if one also considers total startup cost, this uses DDR2 ram and onboard video.

Grinder, just to clarify, "..Sometimes +.1 nb helps.....cpunb @2400 with 1.225 volts" both refer to nbVID not nbCORE? Elaborating on my overclocking results when I have a weak link such as a 4yr old 350watt PS may leave me open to criticism....so must upgrade ASAP. We are making progress just the same as 7-7-7-21-1T@240x6.666 ran a prime95 blended test error-free for 30mins - woohoo & Thanks for helping! A while back I used the same torture test to observe TDP(via 'TMPIN2') while leaving one core idle for a period of time - seeing a measurable difference in temp where it came to the unlocked cores. Someday if I get time i'll measure actual current feeding the CPU regulator socket to confirm a pattern. There would also be errors - only on these cores - starting around 3.3GHz. Being curious by nature, i would like to understand what exactly AMD's chipset does to each core with it's ACC tweak, including the mechanism behind unlocking. Well, maybe I should earn some PS money first :yepp:

+.1 to the nb (790x chipset) seemed to help stabilize the memory a little.
I also determined how much cpunb (IMC on the processor) voltage I needed at 3.2 gig cpu for each cpunb speed, e.g. for me it was 1.025v for 2000 mhz, 1.125 for 2200, 1.175 for 2400, and 1.275 for 2600. I went as high as 1.375 trying to stabilize 2800 (1 hr OCCT) before deciding it wasn't worth it.
Having said that, when I started ramping up the cpu speed I found that turning down cpunb speed let me get a little higher, and that I had to add a little voltage to cpunb as well. That's why I'm at 1.225 cpunb at 2400, with 3.6 gig on 4 cores.
I'll probably play around with acc a bit, then test cores individually. If I don't give in to temptation and buy a C3
Glad to hear you made some progress. Good luck saving for the ps. I'm using a 4 year old ocz powerstream 520.
I like the ma790xt-ud4p for the money, it was $136 Cdn minus a $15 rebate. Plus tax :(

Has anybody found their cpu has started to degrade after unlock/overclock?
Hi
Have MSI 770T-C45 Mobo and 550BE. (0925 CPMW)
I have tried to unlock and succeeded with Win XP Pro 64 and was able to play Crysis Vers 1.2 for over 2 hours, but when I rebooted the PC went into a reboot loop. I then tried to boot into Win 7 Home Premium and got the same.
I have tried unlocking at stock (3.1Ghz) and at OC 3.6 but no luck.
My board has the latest MSI bios 8.3. I tried upping the NB Vcore and the CPU but still no joy.
My specs:

Hi
Have just upgraded my Mobo to Gigabyte as per signature and running with 4 cores. But still CPU-Z and AMD Overdrive Utility do not recognize the extra 2 cores. Win 7 64 shows
all 4 cores inn System/Device Mgr/Processors. HAs anyone any idea why this is happening. Is it incompatibility with Win 7? Do not have this problem in Win XP 64. Also

Vcore 1.385V

ACC All cores + 4%
At first the processor had no desire to unlock. I had to overclock it as a dual core first. After a couple of hours grinding Prime 95 at 3.8 GHz dual core I gave it a second try. Had to bump All cores to +4%. Using Vcore 1.365V resulted in an immediate error in the 4th core when I started Prime95 Small FFT. A small boost to 1.375V fixed it. Still not 100% stable - AOE III Asian Dynasties kept kicking me out after 15-20minutes. Changed settings to ACC per core: Core0 +2%, Core1 +2%, Core2 +4% and Core3 +6% - rock solid.
Now I've got to see what it is capable of in 4core mode.

@darkblade74,
Try putting ACC in auto, then up your Vcore to 1.4v and CPU/NB at 1.35v. leave bus speed at 200 and HT link at 2000(x10).
ACC Auto is a no go for my system.:(
Here's one thing I'm wondering about.
I am getting another 550 that I know for sure unlocks on a MA790XT...... will I have any issues on a Crosshair III?
Was also able to experiment with individual core multipliers with AMD Overdrive and found I could get core 0 and 1 to 3.4Ghz stable while keeping core 2 and 3 at 3.3Ghz.
NB won't go any higher than stock even at 1.25V. Any suggestions?
Well, I guess I have to change my post from SUCCESS to FAIL. My X2 550 BE simply does not want to rise and shine as a quad core anymore:( . As soon as I save my settings and exit BIOS, I get no POST and I have to clear the CMOS no matter what ACC settings (besides DISABLED) I use - Auto, All Cores, Per core, neither changing Vcore nor NB voltage. At least some confort I get from the fact that it's not a bad OCing chip. Flashing with 1.30 BIOS didn't help as well.
Also I get into some kind of FSB wall after 225MHz. 230MHz FSB result in no POST. Memory has plenty of room to go up, NB is within specs, so my guess is it's either the CPU or the MB.

Hi All
Need help. Had to change Mobo back to MSI 770T-C45, Gigabyte 770 board froze after updating Bios to allow "Hybrid" setting and on restart would not unlock all cores. My problem now is that having unlocked all cores on the MSI
I ran Wprime and after 5 passes core 2 (3rd) failed. How can I disable this core
on this Mobo? The settings on the ACC go from 0 to +12 and -12. If I set to per core how do I disable. In anticipation.

I don't remember what board/bios was used but on another forum user claimed... *you must* first clear the cmos, then set it to "per core" and set the core you want disabled to 0, save bios/reboot as usual.
Another way is set numcores switch in boot.ini or using msconfig in Windows, but you can't tell it which cores to use, only limit the number of cores.

anyway acc on this is very simple.
you just turn it on and select auto, manual all or set per core. (wording isnt correct but u get it)

someone please let me know if they have had major issues and what they did. hoping someone has had issues with this mobo :)
is there a program that can reawaken the cores in windows or anything like that.
hopefully someone can get me in the riht direction so i can awake my sleeping quad :)

congratulations m8, and say hi to Valg :)
so i cant seems to post no matter what i do with my dual core,
can someone answer this for me.. how would i just turn on 1 more core instead of 2, is it just 0% in aac?
and how would i distinguish which cores exactly are my good ones so i can figure out which 2 exactly are my bad ones.
hoping thats not confusing but u know, right now in a 2 core state it just comes up as core 0 and core 1
now is it actually core 0 and core 1 or did it just call it that?
anyone get what i mean?
my 550 is in the truck being delivered this morning. Will post up my results using the GA-790XTA-UD4.

I'm really interested to see how they do.

it is fully capable if unlocking... apparently haha. looking at the list on page one very few people use it and iv been told that this board has issues in general.. and i have had to replace it once already.
i plan on getting a gigabyte board on boxing day :) so i will see if thats any better.
Any idea where I can order a C3 550? The improved memory controller is what I am interested in.
i would be interested in this aswell
got some updates, so far this thing is pretty impressive. Learning allot about the little nuances of AM3 clocking. Fun stuff :)

Hi
Ive just got myself a 0940 x2 550 be, im using a Asus M4A785TD-M EVO (bios 0910) and it seems to unlock ok, comes up in bios as unlocked 4 cores, and windows sees it as a X4 B50 quad, occasionally im getting some weird graphically glitches, photos and pics have a grainy appearance etc, im guessing it hasnt been 100% succesfull? I had considered swapping a board for a gigabyte one, my other thought was it might be overheating?
I get graphic issues as well with my 945 when unlocked. Even with fresh OS install etc. Anything Flash related (Adobe/Shockwave) Pretty sure its the chip. To bad because she is prime stable @ 3.85 4cores 1.5v.
nice surprise yesterday, my c3's came yesterday evening and i popped one in this morning

I got these from bottom line telecommunications for anyone that wants to buy one.
haven't tried to unlock it yet, or any unlocking on this mobo for that matter, but it's looking like it'll be very possible to run prime stable at 4.0 with high NB and only 1.46v on the core with air. close to 4.1 may be possible as a dual core on air with this chip.

definitely still headroom here
Just ordered one - $118.00 - a bit more than the C2's but no tax or shipping for me.
how much did you get them for from there?
let me know the unlock outcome when u get there
That first chip stopped clocking at 4045 with 1.53v - 3999 at 1.46v is right where it liked to run. It wouldn't unlock- It'll post as a quad but that's all.
I switched to the second one and it does unlock fine. I'm currently priming it at stock to gauge just how stable it is. It has higher stock volts than the other chip, but it does unlock. I'll post clocking results later when I have them.
So far this is the best I could get from my 550@B50
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/9...324235s.th.png http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/5...render3.th.png
The batch is 0925APMW.
The other one (0924BPMW) doesn't unlock, but clocks a little bit higher.
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/9118/superpi.th.png http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/7...render4.th.png
It's 4GHz stable at 1.5125V.
This bios currently has tons of random issues regarding video and audio that crop up whenever I enable the "unlock" hybrid microcode in bios with the C3 chips installed, even when leaving ACC and the disabled cores off.
But the unlockable chip does crunch stable:
http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/5...6unlock.th.png
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/1...nlock39.th.png
I'm going to try it in my DFI motherboard and see how that one handles the chip after I finish clocking it in this board. I think it certainly has more headroom, but I just don't know how much more after the way the other one fell over completely after 4.0
let me know if the dfi board even unlocks it :S

somebody can help me????
went i unlock to 4core cannot load window just hang ....bios stas x4 already...
somebody can help me please...
nope don't try increase voltage use stock only...your already sucess 4core???
If it unlocks, but doesn't want to load Windows, then you have bad core, or they are healthy, but weaker than the other 2. My advice is to try playing with ACC values for the "bad" cores, it seems to help for many of the unlocked chips out there, let's say +4,+6, even +12 helps some CPUs. You can try also increase the voltage a little bit to see if it helps, because the weaker cores might need higher values, even A LOT higher voltage. For example, mine wants +0.05V more for 4GHz, compared to the same frequency at 2cores. I just have one weaker core, but the chip can handle about 3550 at 4 cores with default voltage. Your unlocked cores seem to be weaker, if not bad. The other thing you can try is to increase the northbridge voltage a little, it helps for stability, too.

I tried lowering the multi and upping the volts but it just sits there frozen.
Any suggestions? / Tips?
Google seems to suggests others have unlocked this batch no probs.
Try to only enable 3 core, maybe one of the unlocked core is not stable.i dunno about gigabyte but on asus there is option to choose to use 3 or 4 core.
Anyone know how to only enable one core with a gigabyte?
not so sure gigabyte allow core control a.k.a u can choose whichever core u like to disab;e/enable. try to ply with diff acc% for each core, it's important for those crippled core(s). i use either -2, -4, +2 or +4 for those not so healthy core(s) usually. :)
btw, just gotten a 555BE, not yet fully stable. just a quick test... :)

Hi everyone!
I recently bought a X2 550BE (0925CPMW) that could be unlocked. Here's the problem: just before windows (win 7 ult. 64) logon screen the computer restarts or shows me a BSOD or just a blue screen error.
I've set the voltage to 1.45 (as the previous owner used) and NB voltage to 1.2 (def 1.0 @ 2000mhz). CPU was at def. clock.
Some people have told to "experiment" with the ACC (with the %) and change it for the specific core (for the core that failed). Well, I can't see which core crashed as I can't even log into windows.
My mobo is ASRock A780GHX/128M with bios 1.20 (also tried 1.50). Could it be a fault of my windows, as I should try to reinstall windows or just get a new mobo?
Got 2x 1001bpmw one tri-core sucess, the other quad-core sucess.

this works(for m3a78-t) and applies to all asus boards:up:
hi guys, I need some help with unlocking pls, I managed to unlock 550 BE (0922 CPMW) into X4 B50 with Asus M4N78 PRO, but I'm not sure if it's stable or not, or it may have bug/crashed somewhere on M4N78 PRO. I've tested it also on different mobo (Biostar mobo) and it's fully unlocked and successfully stable on Prime95, but when I put it back on M4N78 PRO; all 4 of its cores were unlocked and stable in Everest stability test, but it went freeze immediately during Prime95 test, my OS is windows 7 32 bit, I've tried some differrent bios setup including raising its voltage, tried different bios versions but nothing changes, its also freezed when windows 7 aero being assessed, its always freeze at "assessing windows media encoding performance" and on prime95 only..
Does anyone using M4N78 PRO have the same problem with me? :( My current bios version is 1108, please anyone.. can you help me with this please? thanks in advance for your help :)
I updated the BIOS on my son's computer here the other day with the same result. I had 1803 running on it and was able to successfully unlock one of the cores. Then I updated it to 2507 and then 2511 with the same result, no more unlocking. In fact when I try to manually activate the cores, and I only activate one core (core 0) it won't boot. This should work, as it's the only core which must be activated.
I have as sneaking suspicion that for some reason ASUS has intentionally sabotaged the core unlocking. Around six months ago, there was a rumor going around that AMD was pressuring motherboard makers to stop implementing ACC unlocking. Whether it's because they would rather you purchase the higher priced quads, or whether they think it hurts their reputation for reliability, I don't know.
Conspiracy theories aside, I am also going to have to downgrade the BIOS. Of course that's something else that ASUS doesn't make easy. EZFlash detects that it's an old BIOS rev and stops it. You would think to be user friendly, they would flash a warning asking whether you were sure you wanted to proceed. So it's off to download the engineering version of afudos for me. That is one thing in GigaByte's favor, at least with their Dual BIOS, you can have two separate revisions of BIOS. You don't like the new one, boot from the old, done.
If anyone has upgraded their BIOS on their M4A78-E beyond 1803 (preferably to the versions I mentioned above) and had success or continued success, I would sure like to hear it. I would also be interested to see if others have experienced the same as Tenkura and I.
