Heat sink is warm?
It look's strange.
Got an E8600 running for quite some time now, and thought I'd share some results.
I am not unhappy with this chip but it doenst compare to some chips I had in the past, it needs a lot of volts. It's a Q820 with 1.25 VID. System in sig.
Any suggestions for improvement? Would like to hear some.

hi
I noticed you have some really high fsb on your e8600, how did you manage that, i am struggling to get past 470, you manage 600, dont suppose you could post all your bios settings for me,be interesting to see if it would work for me, i assume this is on air.appreciate it zuker if you can do that.

hi there
3 days ago i ordered mi E8600 from a local shop for 255Euro and today I tested it very fast in SPI 1M on my crappy WC system ...started slowly on lovered vcore 1,168V 4G - sayed wow, gotcha go higher 1,272V 4,5G- thats the way  , the final clock booted from the bios 500x10 w/ 1,448V SPI 1M stable
stable 24/7 settings I post latter :)
Great Cpu :) mine did 5,3 with cooold air and watercooling and 1.76v ;)
trough 590 max fsb, cold air do much.
Your sensor is "stuck", and will only change if it goes higher. This means one of two things. You're never going over 39C-4-C, or it's realyy running a bit warmer but is still stuck.
Sensors are wonky on these 45nm CPUs. My old E8400 always said it got into the 60s and 70s, but I could touch my heatsink's heatpipes at the very bottom, and it was a HDT design, and I was feeling barely any warmth (yes, it was applied correctly as well as was the thermal material, before the basic and obvious question gets asked). I should have burned myself. I stopped trusting that CPUs temperatures entirely.
I'd wager that if you have a good cooler, go with my first guess. If it's at stock speed, it still might be running that cool.
hallo people!!! :D i wanna give you some results :)

KURTZ and 0Ro! where did you guys buy your chips at?
for that matter where are the good one being bought at?
im going to be buying one in the next two weeks and would
like to know where people are getting the best batches from.
i know it mostly luck when buying from e-tailers but any info
would be greatly appreciated.thanks
I got mine from a local PC store in Slovakia...that was the first time I had realy luck for a good chip :)
thanks guys.
Still havent learned all, and im sure i can push my E8600 , Q822A435 further, but these are my results so far:
I can do 4500Mhz @ 1.280Vcore stressed.
http://www.thijskramer.nl/tweakersdo...cpuz-thumb.jpg
Max Mhz with 1,45 IDLE Vcore. booted @ 4600mhz, and setfsb right up to 500fsb!
Prolly could have done it with a bit less Vcore aswell, but that was for stability :)
http://www.thijskramer.nl/tweakersdo...0x10-Cpu-Z.jpg
Max superpi, havent done any tweaking at all, mainly due to the fact im not really in to SuperPi just yet, need to read up on some proper tweaking :) :
http://www.thijskramer.nl/tweakersdo...18-4950mhz.jpg
Havent made a pic of it, but highest 1M so far is 4975Mhz, 9.186Sec
Received my Doublesided D9's this week, highest FSB so far is 615. But the DFI P45 T2RS+ is most deff a challenge, and isnt very forgiving when it comes to all the settings, they need to be spot on.
Hopefully i can get 5Ghz to 1M , and validate 5100Mhz :)
VID = 1.0250 btw ( according to coretemp )
not bad dude :D
Heres mine i just got.Its set at 1.2v in the bios.

I'm gonna have a twiddle with it later and see what it will do.I am on water cooling,i expected the temps to be a bit lower but *shrug*
Edit- 4.5ghz at 1.32v set in bios-

I wish it was a Q822A435, I have been trying to find one of those for awhile now without luck, I'm still trying. Kurtz if you ever want to sell yours, please let me know.
My chip is a Q820A722.
No idea, I have not stability tested it as it's just a bench chip. The closest I have come to it was running orthos small FFT for 10 mins at 4.2GHz (600 x 7) a 1.296v and 1.28Vtt. It may not have needed that much voltage, I had just finished a SPI32M run and wondered how stable the cpu had been at those settings.
I want to share this wallpaper with you all, i hope that like it

Luckily got an Q822A435 and by now have tested it for few days.
4500Mhz ~1,26v Orthos and Coldbug -155c.
Unfortunately my T2RS PLUS decided not to work properly, so i don't have any scores under cold.:(
Maybe next weekend i'll try again with other motherboard.
What batches are in the stores yet? Still Q820 and Q822?
How do the newer batches do if there are any?
I guess it depends where you go, I have seen Q847's and also Q820's still available elsewhere. I still cannot find a Q822A435 though, I have searched for more than 18 months to no avail. My only hope I think is if someone who has one wants to upgrade to i7.
Ugh, i regret selling my ReX w/ E8600 Q822A435 more and more now.
Is Q822A435 still king of the hill?
seen some q917 and q920, anyone tested ?
Well, yes and no actually.
Mine could run 4.5GHz Prime stable with only 1.288Vcore but it hit a concrete wall at 4920MHz.
No way i could get it to run 5GHz! :( Not even SuperPi 1M....
Hello all
I get my first new c2d (45nn) yesterday (e8600) now i need your experts help my overclocking. My old prosessor was e6300 (allendale) thats ticking 3.5ghz (7x500fsb) allright.
Now i testing e8600 overclocking ability little, but thats are little bit harder compared my old e6300. Old e6300 gets fsb 500-515 easily. Now i running orthos 4.4ghz 3h without problems, but i wait little more that prosessor.
or am I get very bad batch prosessor? Prosessor are sanded to copper, thats why i dont can't look batch, can i look batch some program?
I running watercooling (Swiftech 320, heatkiller 3.0, laing 10w). I thinking if prosessor go 500fsb 24/7, i am very happy. I am very thankfull if somebody help me with bios setting.
I try couple setting, but always overclocking stopped 4.6ghz when i start orthos :) Thats are my bios settings and motherboard are P5Q-e (nb and sb with active air cooling)

all other setting are auto. With that settings i dont get to orthos running over 20seconds. Any tips, questions, help are very welcome, i hope somebody can help :)
EDIT: Know i running with 1.38vcore to 4.4ghz, but i really hope i get more: Orthos running
You want to run the cpu at 500x10 for every day usage? I want to make love to Christina Aquilera. I guess we both have got to be patient.
Sorry mate but 500x10 on water ain't gonna happen. Just settle for 4.4 4.5GHz, any good E8600 will make that on watercooling.
The batch number can be found on the carton box if you still have it, to the best of my knowledge there's no program to look up the batch.
You're a bit pessimistic Zeus, I used to run @500x9 on air and temperature was'nt goin thru 75°C with an ambiant temp of 30°C so...
I'm just gonna check what he can do with some cold (SS -40°C /1.35v)
Never reached 5Ghz under TrueBlack -_- atmo 4,9 on MIIFF but not 32M stable with that Q822A435 :( (vid:1.1625)
I loose 200mhz on UD3P rahhh!! but nice ram clocking compared to the ROG mobo ;)
:D Maybe i am crazy, but i thought that e8600 work bigger clock speed than e8500. I overclocked e8500 with boxed air 4.5ghz and with water 4.9ghz, very sad if e8600 is that bad :)
I sell that and buy e8500 :p: If i overclocked e8600 10x440fsb = 4.4ghz compared i overclocked same prosessor 9x 489fsb = 4.4ghz, can i get more power to ratio9 setting?
I think there's a day and night difference between 9x500 and 10x500. Or do you mean i'm pessimistic about the Christina Aguilera thing? :D
Hell, you're right, she's on my answering machine asking what the hell is keeping me so long! :)
I don't think the 9 multi will gain you any more overclock.
It's not fair to say the E8600 is bad, i think you just happend to have one very good E8500!
E8600 q820a405 4ghz ( 8 x 500fsb ) undervolt @ 1.144v :
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...ndervolted.jpg
Some early testing on my "new" Q822A435.
Not as good as my old Q822A435 but still capable of running Prime at 4.5GHz. :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...rime45134V.jpg
Maybe with some tuning of the GTL voltages i might be able to lower the Vcore some.
Still pretty happy with this.
Bought my E8600 used. Recently went to Q9650 and kinda want to go back because I can't really get over 457fsb vs 550.

VID is 1.2125

If you don't mind hacked SLI on legacy Intel, I would recommend selling your board for a gigabyte UD3x series board and make that quad scream.
I've tried really juicing the voltage high but nothing seems to stop the crashes after a handful of linx loops. My coolant is reaching 41C, so I may be at the limit of what I can do with my water cooler(3x 120mm sr1-120's).
Where can I find the sli hack? I only see the initial news, and then everyone saying the dev disappeared and it's not available.
Anyway, I still have my e8600 sitting right here... But really... 4.4ghz vs 4.11ghz... Not to big a difference... Although the whole 457 fsb vs 550 fsb is annoying.
Hey guys,
Advance apologies for making a slightly "noob" post, but I just wanted some general advice on overclocking my E8600. Some info:
Chip: SLB9L Malay, Q820A601, VID=1.200V (from CoreTemp)
Board: DFI LP LT X38-T2R, latest BIOS
RAM: 2 x 2GB OCZ Blade LV PC2-9200
Cooler: Zalman CNPS9700-NT
I'm just wondering if you guys can give me a ball park speed/voltage I should be aiming for to use the machine 24/7 long term. And any little tips/tricks which have arisen from this thread (sorry I haven't read it all!).
Cheers,
Su
P.S. Also, I noticed a lot of you disable VDroop control - why is this?
no matter what your 790i requires more juice +.05-.1
500fsb is a new ballgame;) its the big bang:D
my rex needed extreme voltages for 500fsb
480-500fsb x9
333/800 divider
cpu 1.36-1.4v
vtt 1.3
pll 1,55 max any more you will degrade cpu
nb 1.55
gtls can stay on auto
intel says to dissable vdroop to protect cpu
well i ennabled vdroop on dfi
zsamz, thanks for that mini guide
Seems you have (or had?) the same motherboard as me :D did you notice any increase in stability when you had VDroop control enabled? Also I see you ran 4 x RAM sticks at 1200MHz  I'm thinking of getting another set of Blades to make 8GB (as I'll be keeping this rig for a long time!).
Cheers,
Su
I just picked up an 8600 Q223A221 07/31/08 not sure of vid yet.
I have not decided whether to mate it with the Asus S2E or 780i yet.
Has anybody got experience with this batch?
I've been through all the pages here and unless I missed it I don't see one 8600 that has Q223 all seem to start with Q222.
Is it possible that everyone here has sought out the specific Q222 instead of the Q223's. Is there something wrong with them? In any case once I get it installed I'll report back what I can do with it.
You sure it's Q222? I have a Q822 --> 8= 2008 22=week 22.
My mistake I meant 823 vs 822

Got bored. More low voltage action.
4.2ghz used to take my golden e8400 C0 1.36v.
And this is less than the default 1.25v on most motherboards(q820a405):
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...er42ghz12v.jpg
@ LagunaX Excellent low V action! What is the proc VID?
Same chip in post #752 above - vid 1.1625v.
Wow that is low. I need to get mine installed and see what it's VID is but I want to lap my TRUE first and need the time to do it.
