I posted the link for the bootable floppy.

Humm, just ran memtest v2.1 & get errors running anything under 8-7-7-20
I tested one at a time & found that 1 is bad. (Note: Runs At Stock Error Free)
1800MHz - 1900MHz 8-8-8-20 1.9v pulls 0 errors on both sticks, but if I increase 1.92v I get errors.
CAS 7 will not run 2gigs error free because i'm sure 100% 1 is now bad.
If I use the 1 good one, I can run 7-6-5-18 @ 1T 1800MHz - 1900MHz all day.
Viper 1800MHz 8-8-8-20 @ 2T 1.9v is rated speed, do you guys think the 1 stick will still cause problems in the system with the above noted information?
I can't use the floppy version because it doesn't like Vista 64. I dl the bootable USB version 2.01 and stuck it on my USB stick.
Frist try it loaded and got stuck instanlty, frozen. Reboot 3 times and all I get is a blue screen that say memtest x86 2.01 and it's frozen(doesn't even get to testing. I don't think it's compatible with my setup.
Haha!

Beta Version 0704 2008/05/29 update
OS All OS
Description BIOS update file for Striker II Extreme (Version 0704)
1. Fix data corruption issue.
File Size 748.06 (KBytes)
-----------
So this guarantees that no more corruption issues? Am I still on the brink of corruptions (still on 0703)?
@ slim.
Your config rocks! Running at 1750FSB, 1600Mem ... settings and voltages as you told me.
With 1800 FSB vista hangs up and nothing happens.
But with 3500Mhz 2x2gb corsair 1600, and 88Ultra SLI (@655/1350/1595) i have got 186xx 3Dmarks! YEAH!
@ 0704 bios
I do believe that you are correct m8.
From the very first few corruptions I was thinking about the memory dividers having issues.
Those may be the culprit. Now who's...gonna test all the possible "real-life" dividers and make a list of the working and not working ones ? :p: :D
Well... you can wait, as I'm crazy enough to test all of them.
But it will take some time as I have several reviews to finish.
Oh noes!!!
Im getting video freezes
I can move files (tried 7gbs big) around HDDs, install 4-6gbs programs, surf the net, download stuff, run 3dmark 20 times, run prime95 for 25 hours but whenever I watch a video it freezes after 20 secs??? I have reinstalled windows and also codecs but nothing...
Wow, Im not 100% estable after all
Is this a sign of corruption problems? (read my above paragraph cause I doubt this)
I think I will give 0704 another try soon...
Grrrrrr......... I want a solution to this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you freezing in windows or BSoDing? or BDoDing before getting to windows? details plzQuote:
I tried that, didn't fix it, I just got another corrupt issue, damnit. Same area, always is the "\Windows\System32\config\system"
Will try that for sure! (Read above), but sometimes the RAM speed wont change until you increase like 20Mhz, thats the problem.Quote:
I'm running 0704 here and it does not fix the corruption issues. But from all my playing around with the board it only happens with specific DRAM multipliers so if you get corruption issues try and lower or raise RAM clock one notch if you're running unlinked.
Can you play videos to see if you freeze please? I mean 700mb movies cause Im getting freezes (read above).Quote:

Glad my config worked for you ^^
My divider is 9:16 and everything works but my video freezes. Will try increasing RAM by a notchQuote:

i used your settings ... read my post in the other thread 790i.thread...
BUT im on 704... no video errors so far ...
I finally got my rig stable at 1800fsb with 1600 memory, but it doesn't seem to like doing any higher on the memory because i tried sync and it would lockup mainly during any stress test.
But 3.6Ghz at 1.325 is sexy, I want it to have my babies now. But if i can get it working at 1800mem that would be nice too.
Back on 0704
Going to start from scratch to find my sweet spot on this BIOS since I dont want to be left out in the dust of brink of corruption.
I cant believe how estable I am as long as I dont watch videos on 0703... thats just dissapointing
27 mins remaining, testing at 1850FSB 1650mem, so far so good. It seems this unlinked divider is good.
Yesterday i watched something on youtube and suddenly the sound was kind of weird... "OH NO!" I thought ... "The same video problem?" But nothing more happend... Even 4 Gig videofiles run smooth.
Hope you'll find your problem ...
btw do you use eSata harddisks and which? Cause Ive got serious problems with my wdbook500gb and the jmicron. But only with eSATA ... no probs with USB?!
You're lucky. I am unable to get past 1840MHz on my S2E, whatever memory setting I use. Is there something I could be missing? On a positive note, my 1600MHz rated 4GB memory, easily did 2000MHz at 9-9-9-24 2T on stock voltage, although the memory benchmarks were slightly better at 1840MHz with tighter timings. This puts me off upgrading to some of the faster new memory coming out (OCZ 2000MHz RAM has 9-9-9-28 Timings!!) , which basically offers these same timings, albeit probably with 1T command rate. How much difference would the 1T make?
Haha, tried your settings and run prime 95 blend for 3h30 stabile
I used mp 10 (4255mhz) and all GTL-REF @ auto
Bios 0512

So happy as i was, this morning startup memtest 86+ v2.1 and my screen coloured red, thousands and thousands of errors
Maybe prime doesnt stress the memory enough, or the whole memtest program is incompatible with nf790i ?
Anyway priming @ synced 1740 7-7-7-2T right now :)
Going to test those ones...
Like cracking sounds? I might be able to help you out on that one ;) I found out how to fix it with x-Fi chips, just let me know.
So you can run 4gbs videos... i wonder what my problem is then :(
And to answer your ?, no I dont use eSATA, all my HDDs are SATA. I have 4 HDDs, I can watch movies for like 2 mins then it will freeze and you can hear a beep then I have to restart...
I've got an audigy 4 chip ... maybe its similar to x-fi chips... So what did you find out?
to your prob...
Perhaps you can try "my" settings ;)
with 1750 FSB and 1600 MEM...
That sucks Justfire, I got through memtest ok with those setting..I even passed lowering RAM volts to 1.9 now. BTW are you cooling your RAM? I bought the silly OCZ fan cooler for the RAM because I happen to touch one of the sticks when priming and it was amazlingly hot. I now have one of my ESA temp sensors stuck to it to monitor the temp. Gets upto about 58c. Think heat maybe your issue?
I have the ocz ram cooler :D
Memtest 3.4 gave me lot of errors in test 4 and 6.
Now after disabling core 3+4 i only get errors in test 6
Memtest for windows and prime 95 blend give me zero errors running @ 1740 synced 7-7-7-24-2T P1+P2 enabled :stick:
Have played assassins creed for 4 hours without any lockup or error.
Man this board and/or ram are weird :shakes:
This is my 3rd SIIE and 4th OCZ 1600 EB ram kit :O
Will try your settings, Im getting frustrated!
What I did to fix my X-Fi issues
First, I thought of changing the pci card to another slot (because of the famouse IRQ issues) but I was too lazy to do it so I was thinking about it and decided to install the SupremeFX II card (to see if the BIOS or windows would change the IRQ of the sound cards, idk I was just been creative :p: ) and at the same time, when the SoundMAX installed asked me to restart the pc, I went to BIOS and I went to where nobody ever thought about (as far as I know cause I never saw this posted before) the plug and play options and changed that disabled to enable (let OS manage it).
When I restarted the PC, played all my songs, none of them had crackling sounds!!! Happy music (bass for me :p:)
Hope that helps you guys :D
with Bios 0703 Rams works max with 1763MHz and now with Bios 0704 it will run with 1929 MHz now 3h stable
http://freenet-homepage.de/Leippi/191.JPG
now i'm also having those video corrupion problems..reinstalled vista today turned on vista dreamscene and i get artifacts using 0703 tho' running 1800fsb and mem 4ghz 7 6 5 18 1t
Guys just a heads up, video drivers 175.XX are still not working 100%
I run 9800GX2 & can't use any of the 175.XX, I'm not the only one who has this problem.
I was also getting video corruption ect...
If I use 174.74 works 100% with no video freezing & driver has stop working are gone.
Ohhh & it's just not the S2E board thats causes this problem...
Also make sure you run memtest86 v2.1, if you get errors on memory this will also add to video problems. TRUST ME
WTF posted to soon, I rebooted with onboard audio disabled and cracking came back. Moving the card is not the issue I have to have the onboard audio enabled in the bios...weird. I have the onboard card enabled in bios disabled in vista and no crack as of yet. WTF!!
Here's where I'm at with my E8500, prime and orthos stable for ~2hrs,

My board really likes linked and synced (1:2) for some reason.
Start playing with my QX9650 soon
Wow, finally we can share ideas about this cause Im also having those problems! I have been around ASUS forums and eVGA forums and there are 9999 users with the same problems. That means my OC is 100% estable but SLI is causing my freezes and lock ups while watching videos!
So wait, with 174.74 the video freezes are gone? You solved everything by going back to 174.74??? SLI Enabled and working perfectly?? PLEASE CONFIRM THIS (sorry Im desperate)
I know this has something to do with the SoundMax card, probably mixed IRQ, who knows, but at least you have it fixed now :)
slim142, I can't answer about sli, but yes running 174.74 fixed my video freezing & driver stopped working & has recovered issue.
At Guru3D has many post about this current issue with 175.XX video drivers...
You will also see that alot of others also can't run 175.XX.
I gave the settings Trigger suggested but I ended up having to bump my Vcore a lot higher than 1.325 to get it to post. What do you guys think is a safe limit for a 24/7 voltage for the QX9650
installed 174.15 yesterday and flashed to 0704 same crap
i better try thaat one
here using gx2 and i keep getting artifacts on dreamscene but no prob at all with movies
might be a corrupted installation of vista
edit tried for the first time the audio and it sucks tried to dl a newest driver from asus and it's the same crap on cd drivers
Hi guys. I am having the same problems with 175.16 drivers, crappy sound. I just installed 174.74 again and all correct.
I guess its an improvement over the last one, the striker I dealt with before this one was a bastard.
So its the SLI driver (some sucker drivers, not all) thats giving out those craclking sound... and not using SLI itself. Am I right?
I dont know bro, try more NB? or more VTT? or even more vcore... probably a sucky chip?
BTW, Im testing 175.80Beta now
Wich memory slots do you guys use?
The blue ones or the whites?
^^ what r the maximus settings for nb/vtt/core/mem voltages? Ideas?
Was 2,0v for my Corsairs enough or too much?
thx... now testing with

Hey HardCase
You are using 174.74 Beta right? Because when I try the WHQL version, it tells me it cannot find hardware compatible with the driver, I installed with modded INF and my VGA wont work with this 174.74 WHQL :(
BTW 175.80 sucks, pc freezes in less time than 175.16
slim142, the 174.74 I'm using is WHQL, It supports my card 9800GX2.
Maybe it only supports this list:
WHQL certified driver for the following GPUs:
GeForce 9800 GX2
GeForce 9800 GTX
GeForce 9600 GT
GeForce 8300
GeForce 8200
GeForce 8100/NVIDIA nForce 720a
NVIDIA nForce 730a
Just recieved the Q9550 I've been waiting all these months, put my S2E rig together and problems already!
The board does not boot with the EVGA 9800 GTX. Does the typical 1 long-3 short beeps and LCD posted displays VGA BIOS at that time.
- Tried 0402, 0508, 0703 and 0704 BIOS versions
- Tried another PSU
- Tried the card in another board (works perfectly)
- Tried the top blue and the white PCI-E slots
- Tried with my 8800 GTX and 7900 GT cards (both working). Didn't have another PCI-E v2.0 card to test.
In one way who cares? I never planed to run the 9800 GTX with this board; I just traded my v-modded 8800 GTX with this card so that I use its 90-day step up for the upcoming GT200. But I surely hope there is no issue with PCI-E 2.0 cards in general and my S2E board.
First, I just want to say thank you to all those who have posted settings. Very helpful!!!
:up::up::up:
And so after many, many frustrating hours of messing with BIOS settings and trying various BIOS versions (0402, 0502, 0503, 0701) and having Win XP corrupted 2x, I have managed to overclock my E8400 to 3998Ghz on my ASUS Striker II Extreme.
:D
I did this on air too.
I am using an Thermalright IXF-14 with AS5.
It only fits because I "machined" a custom made bracket / clip from a 1mm pump shim (I will probably change it to 2mm thickness for extra support)
I ended up using the original BIOS of 0402.
It's Prime95 stable (after just under 3 hours), 3D stable (3Dmark06 x3) and stable with Memtest86+.
Temps are about 40-42ºC Idle and 47-53ºC on load depending on whether I close the case or not...
I managed to pull of 18,994 3DMark06 points! Sweet. At stock settings (3.0Ghz) it was around 15k.
Seems as though there are many people out there with much pain!
There do indeed seem to be many FSB blackholes.
No matter what I tried I could not use 1600Mhz as the FSB or 1700Mhz.
Strange considering the board is rated past 1600 and my RAM is rated at 1600 Mhz too.
Here is an example of the weirdness: I could get it stable at FSB=1777 but not FSB=1735.
I think I can get a little more out of this board / cpu but it's stable so I don't think I'm going to mess with it too much more!
Anway here are the settings I used. Hopefully other people will find them useful...
CPU multiplier = 9.0
FSB = 1777 (444 x 4)
RAM Link and Sync
RAM = 8-7-7-23-2T (rest in Auto)
CPU V = 1.3625v
CPU PLL v = 1.45v
CPU VTT v = 1.36v
Memory v = 1.92v
NB Core v = 1.46v
SB Core v = 1.60v
CPU GTL_Ref0 Ratio = +42mv
Ref 1 = +39mv
Ref 2 = +39mv
Ref 3 = +42mv
All other settings in Auto.

I just thought of something...
Sometimes (and I have no idea why?!?!) I get BSOD on cold boots (i.e. PC off for a day or 2 and then turn on).
But ONLY in XP. Windoos gets to the login screen and then...BSOD. It's always OK on the restart though...
XP is stable during normal running, which is what I find weird.
I wonder if I have "mild corruption" in XP? Not sure if "mild corruption" is even possible...LoL
NEVER get any issues in Vista.
Weirdness.
Hello again, guys...
I have noted that crappy sound with 175.16 drivers goes away (not absolutely) when sli disabled... Bsods almost dissapeared when sli disabled...
I was having Raid failure when 3xraid0 Raptors 74, now installed Vista x64 in one raptor and all correct.
My specs: (cannot get into user control panel because of database error to change them)

Justifire how high are you stable now with your qx9650? It seems that I have to push 1.4 vcore to get any sort of stability around 4 ghz.
I couldnt update to 0704 with awardflash, had to use EZ Flash, anybody with same problem?
OMG
Things get weird with this board/ram.
Prime 95 blend test is stabil @ 1742 synced 7-7-7-24 2T P1+P2 enabled @ 1.90v, memtest86 still give lots of errors (test 4+6)
After lots of errors in memtest86 v3.4 i decided to check one dimm at a time.
Dimm 1 passed without errors, Dimm 2 passed without errors :shakes:
So i know for sure now it isnt the ram whats faulty.
Put both dimms in the blue slots, errors again, put them back in the whites where they were all the time, errors again.
Lowered the FSB to 1333 and keep the ram speeds at 1742,
test 4 passed without errors, test 6 errors again :(
Disabled core 2 and 3 (0 and 1 enabled) and upped the fsb back to 1742 synced.
Test 4 passed, test 6 errors again
Is it possible memtest just cant handle the qx9650/790i/2x2GB ram ?
I think it's strange that some people on this forum can run memtest without any errors, where others have a hard time getting it pass.
And why is it prime stabil where it fails within 5 minutes on memtest?
Those without errors in memtest, what is your NB/SB temperatures ?
At the moment 4450 mhz @ vcore 1.4750v (1.52v in bios) vtt 1.6 pll 1.6 prime stabil (468x9.5 or 445x10, both ok)
Didnt try GTL_REF yet, first want to get my ram at max speeds.
Am planning to lower the PLL and VTT when i'm settled at max speeds.
Till i'm finished testing i dont want those to be the limiting factor.
Anybody with video corruption, any info about this will be greatly appreciated!
Im still testing:

FAILURES in memtest86+v.201 (Test Nr.8) !!!!!!! AAAAHHHHHHRGGGGG!!!
ANY IDEAS? Is it possibly a bios issue?
OK
Tested mem with vista memory test utility (some guy from ocz on a forum advices to use this instead of memtest)
No errors found.
I think it's time for me to say : Fcuk Memtest !
Altough it served me for years, at the moment it just doesnt seem to work as it should be.
Going to test further with prime and vista mem tool
no errors with vista mem tool ... but errors with memtest, right?
Well, I keep having lock ups at desktop. I can run prime95, and OCCT all i want and be stable, But let it idle at desktop for a few hours and it locks up. I'm confused.
I tried every way from Sunday to get 1777 based off of these setting(thx for posting). It's just not happening for me, I'm pretty certian it's not my CPU x3350 because I can run it unlinked at 1802. I think my OCZ sticks are not as capable as yours. Most of the attempts actually crash memtest or cause it to reboot..not actual memory errors. Weird.
Back to 1702 linked and synced for now...I hope the next BIOS helps me.
I had pretty much exactly the same issues when I used memtest 3.4 while trying to find the cause of my problems with an Asus P5E3 Premium Wifi...
Try doing a search on memtest 3.4 errors on google. It seems this version of memtest can show errors on perfectly good ram, I think the generally accepted version is 2.1. There's some history of two different versions by different people if you don't mind trawling enough to find it.
Bottom line... Never trust memtest 3.4. 2.1 on the other hand seems to be trustworthy.
Ill start creeping up the voltages and see what happens. what kind temps are you getting (with core temp if you use it) at 4450?
Niice! Finally the battle we were all waiting for!
http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?op...=7713&Itemid=1
This makes me REALLY (you dont know how much) happy :D
At least Jensen and the rest of Nvidia are not sitting and waiting for mercy; they are all locked and loaded for the biggest fight of their careers.
Sounds to me that Intel can't get there own way.
Good for you Nvidia stand up & hold you're head up high.
QUOTE:
Now NVIDIA's next-generation GPU is just about the worst kept secret in the industry, and to that extent there's been plenty of speculation on the features and size of such a GPU. 1.2 billion transistors is consistent (if not a tad higher) than what rumors have been floating about so the size doesn't come as much of a surprise, but we are surprised that NVIDIA would publish such a fact for a product that doesn't exist yet. None the less, of all the rumors we can at least lay those about the transistor count to rest: NVIDIA's next generation high-end GPU will have around 1.2 billion transistors, and that's right from the horse's mouth.
Intel is very worried about not having Sli...
Without NVIDIA they wouldnt have such high sell rates. Many buy them to pair with 680/750/780/790. Also, Intel is in the top 3dMark ORB because of SLI.
However... now whats next? I really want to see whats going to happen with both of this companies in the next few months :D
Prime95 ran through 2 full tests, SFC /scannow ok, Memtest86+ 2.01 froze on me..no actual mem errors it just quit working. I have been having some issues with it so until this setup gives me any other reason to think it's not stable I'm going to ignore memtest. Note CPU and fusion block are on water, RAM is air cooled.

I had the same problem with memtest86 v2.01, I had to adjust timmings to stop freezing.
This also made system 100% rock stable.
With what I have seen with S2E, Memtest freezing usually means you need more juice for the SPP and/or relax your timings.
I'll try more juice first... if not I'll relax. Lol sounds like a regular weekend.
i have a new pc,but i have some problems too.
my pc's parts are:
mb:extreme striker II
pcu:q9300 quad core penryn@2.5
graphics cards:2x8800gtx 768mb
ram:gskill 1333mhz 2gb
os:xp sp2
The problems are in the software.
i tried to connect to the internet with a usb 56k modem for a while and it freezed.Every time now i put the mouse on the icon of this connection for a sec it freezes again and i have to reboot.
an other problem is that i can't install photoshop cs3, when on my old pc i could.lol!!!!!
i can't install autocad 2008 but i can 2009.crazy.
when i run 3dmark06,after it finishes, the start menu can't open.
i have done bios updates in versions 0402,0511,0602,0701,0703 but no difference.
any ideas??????please.
goal make sure your ram is working 100%
run them at stock timings and stock voltages, everything else on auto
