Use this BIOS, it will unlock CCC to numbers you only can imagine ;)
It also set 850/1200 to default

THX! :D I hope CCC will give up now ;)
@ Jimbo Mahoney - Could you point me to the correct resistor for a pencil mod, we have the same cards, actually you might remember me from OcUK forums?
Would it simply be C652?
Cheers
you can find it here.

Just use rivatuner and do so it goes on 60% 24/7
I use rivatuner and for me it work prety well ;)
I recently got myself a second Powercolor 3870 PCS that has a newer PCB revision (1.1 instead of 1.0) with some minor differences.
http://www.pctunerup.com/up/results/...PC3870_1_1.JPG
(It's KOhms, wrong corrige).
In the 1.0 PCB, i have shaded a resistor placed on the same spot of the red marked one, which had a default value of about 2KOhms.
On this new one its resistance is higher, and the controller chip is a NEXSEM NX2422 instead of a uP6201AQ VLK78W.
Would it be fine to shade the "red" resistor aswell?
Can anyone measure which voltage they get at 50k ohm vGPU? I only have a 50k pot:P
Hi everyone,
I got two Asus 3870, but they are based on a modified PCB by Asus.
Did anyone have found the vmos for this kind of card?
Thx a lot
post some good pic's ;)
You're right. Nothing to take pics at the moment, but I will post it asap.
I was just expecting that someone can answer me without pics (perhaps this vmod have already been found).
See you
i don't know if they exist already but some pic's should be useful to figure out the mod from scratch
As promised :
http://images3.hiboox.com/images/1808/hdi8oopl.jpg
omg... i have the same one (two to say wxactly :D) and i can do nothing((((
Noooo!!
I have buy 2 pieces to test the Crossfire...It was looking good but if vmodding is impossible
I'm waiting for another geeks to answer me, and i'm looking for deduce this vmod of the other which already exists.
Benji Tshi post an other one the front side of the card...
Sir, yes Sir !:yepp:
http://images3.hiboox.com/images/1808/npzqx6du.jpg
i think you'd better redo the photo. without cooling system;)
i thing that these two are the chips if you can some good pic's of them and tell us what is marked on the :)
http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/5836/npzqx6durd0.jpg
I did it the best way i can...
http://images3.hiboox.com/images/1808/cdaaqzm5.jpg
grr i hate asus :D i googled them and i cant find datasheets for them :( post an other pic of the card naked...
Which part of the card would you like. I suppose it's this one.
Under the fan, there is nothing but the ram chips and gpu.
http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/8...0802rb7.th.jpg
I think it's better to write down some components numbers cause zooming in on your pictures looks like a cell-phone pic.
Try to focus/adjust towards some components like IC's and all.
try this site :) http://www.imageshack.us/
pics are about 5mb, imageshack allows only 1.5/3mb...not enough!
I think it's fixed.
try just sharpening and lowering size in Photoshop;) i also badly need this vmod((
Back to #729 to get good pics
yup, sorry m8, already checked it out!) now just wanna get some info about this type of pcb layout and possibility of v\m... i found no info.
Help, this is really important for two persons -at least-...
Horrified by my pics?
useless((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((
i can't Find anything for these Chips so i can't say anything try to help us a bit wight down all the chips on the card an post them..
I will do that ;)
Is there any VGPU Pencil Mod for Powercolor HD3870 PCS with PCB V1.0?
EDIT:
I´ve found a pencil VGPU-Mod.
But what about one for Mem and how to find the voltage-reading points?
EDIT2:
Im also wondering about such a mod for a HIS3870 Iceq3 card. A guy in a German forum mentioned about it.
Here is a picture:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/al...3663363763.jpg
As you can see it´s got a completly different layout.
And btw you have to turn the picture 180°.
seems like noone can make asus 3870 mod( is it really so?
No one that can measure their VCore and see with voltages they get at 50k ohm?
oh in the ref. design with a 50k pot you get ~ 1.4 - 1.45 it depends not so good if the card is on air cooling...
sorry but i don't understand my english are not even close to good :p
Damn. This evning I did a horrible misstake. I changed the pot to my hardmod with a faulty pot. I heard a biiip from something in my case and now I have f**ed up my brand new 3870. I probobly ran way to much voltige throug my card. :(
I have no idea what I broke but now I got huge artifacts and I can only run windows in safe mode.
Anyone have any ides. Is it possible to repair, does anyone made the same misstake? Are there any tools for finding what broke?
Would really appriciate any tips / info.
This is how my screen look right now:
yes i made the same mistake i feed the 3850's mem's with ~4Volts and the card blowed up just unmod her and send her for rma
if you just ground the spots you feed the core with as much volt the pwm can supply
normally the card due to overvoltage/overcurent protection should just shut down the core but this is happening in a small amount of voltage in your case the voltage that went to the core when you ground the spots is unknown so it might made a damage to the core (degrade maybe ?) :( so just un-mod the card and make sure that every thing is clean and send her for rma :(
i did my best to explain everything, i hope you can read all this :p: my English sucks
I've a 3850 with similar stripes....when i boot i get stripes of green dots
but my card was not realy dead...when i pressed at some points of pcb it worked sometimes fore a couple of days without the green stripes
i think on my card something has no real contact to pcb or the pcb has an internal cut or something of a memory chip has no real contact...
but i'll send it to RMA
it was not my pencil vmod caused this kind of problems
I have written a little poem:
Dear 3870
You served me for many months and never complaind about the the too strong vcore. As long as you could hang out with your pal AC S1 you were always happy. Your pcb was blue as heaven itself and your Caps were oh so solid. As time went by we learnd to live side by side. You with your 1000 Mhz Gpu and me with my playful mood. But one day I accedently grounded one of your mod-points and your gpu turned black as the night. You screamed
for a short while and then it got silent...
Now you can play all the games you want and meet with other 3870:s and maybe even a 3850. I know this was your dream, to engage x-fire with a red pcb 3850 to share your workload. Dont forget to use double bridges in that case.
You will always be rememberd.
You swedish people  (:D)
He, he
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::r ofl::rofl:
voltmod made HIS3870ICeQ3
After a couple of seconds in 3D-mode, voltage chip falls from 1.46 to 1.15 V
What's wrong?
OCP on the HIS, once you raise the vgpu past 1.4v OCP kicks in and drops the voltage to 1.15v when you run 3D. :( I think that is what those extra couple resistors are doing when you compare to reference.
One thing you can try tho is a different BIOS. GeCube and Sapphire BIOS supposedly allow for more than 1.4v but I havent tried em personally. I always get the dam checksum error and am not sure how to change that.
I'm find it's: http://www.topmods.net/images_art/Po...ocp_config.png
R40, R41 - remove
R42, R43 - remove and replace to 300K Ohm
May be do it for HIS? but where the resistors on PCB from HIS?
Over current protection. The card kicks back to 1.15v if a certain voltage threshold is passed.
According to shamino's pic, the resistors are here:
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/8382/21365711nf6.jpg
But I would try a different BIOS before doing this..
This work for HIS3870ICeQ3:
http://images.people.overclockers.ru/preview/156795.jpg
You tested it?
I'm trying to voltmod a RX3850, pcb rev. 2.0.
The PWM regulator is an RT8802A, really could use some help.
http://users.pandora.be/kastaar/MSI%20OCC/RT8802A.jpg
whitepaper pdf for that PWM. Can we see the rest of the card?
Can you follow the trace from pin 4 (FB) to the resistors or contact points? Not so easy to mod direct to PWM.
Hi.
Can anyone point me out to a guide for increasing my 3850 voltages using software?
It would be apreciated.
Also ATI tool isnt detecting my graphics cards, I have the latest beta version and it doesnt detect them. And if anyone knows how I can overclock my second card beyond what CCC allows, it would be appreciated. Thanks.
try a different version of atitool, 0.26 is usually the best. If it wont work use rivatuner. You cant increase voltage via software, closest you can do is flash a BIOS with a touch more voltage if you can find one.
ohhh, my pictures wrong. R1270 don't remove - remove end replace R640 (bottom C657) I correct it now in my post with pictures. Sorry :(
I'm remove R605&R615 and replace R640&R604 resistors to 330kOhms and get 1.34V in 2-D and 1.4 in 3-D on trimer 100Kohms. Trimer set to 47kOhms - 1.46V in 3D and 1.4V in 2-D
Awesome, pictures please! I may do it myself.
Did you actually remove those resistors or just bridge them with 300kohm?
I need some help :)
Before i solder anything and make it really bad :P
I've got 2 Saphirre HD3870 Ultimate (blue PCB)
Where should i solder my VR for VGPU mod ?
Here is the picture

Thxs a lot for the amazing job you have done here !
I'm a bit tired and don't want to read all the pages lol. Can someone tell me if there are any software programs that you can up voltages with? I remember using ati tool with my x1950xt to do so.

With 1.62 volt on air, what are your temps on that card?
With 1.5v under a modified Arctic Cooling Xtreme 2900 I get 1GHz on the core, and a load temp not exceeding 48C. I was a bit concerned pumping more than 1.6 volts into it, maybe I could give more considering the temps?
http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/8793/9998752yo6.th.jpg
Temp around 75/80°c, room around 30°c .. (because of my SS...)
my SS is runing near the comp
really cold temp in Sweden you have
Because he have only 873Mhz on memory...
I think theses scores are correct... :)
PS : 900 default clock, and 873Mhz set?! why? you flashed the card with wrong frequency? :D
Yup, they are correct...I don't care that much about cheating ;)
The memfrequency is lower because I flashed the Gigabyte card with a Gecube bios that was unlocked. I edited the bios to default 850MHz but GPU-Z still shows the factoryclock. The Gigabyte 3850 have Hynix 1.4ns chips, and Gecube have Hynix 1.1ns chips but it works perfect.
would any one have a dead card with an RT9619A chip on it they would like to part with? if so please PM me and we could work something out :)
Does anyone know vmem for sapphire blue PCB?
