a lot of us got the Bone Trail based solely on the solid reputation of its predecessor, the Intel Bad Axe II. it was respected as one of the most solid and stable overclockers from its generation.

i think the Bone Trail is no different - it just got off to a shaky start and could still use another BIOS revision. it isn't quite as refined as the other, more expensive boards, and it doesn't have as many extras. but once i figured out how to stroke mine the right way, it has proven to be a powerful board. i got my FSB up to 467 last night, and my CPU was what held me back from going higher. the Bone Trail didn't even break a sweat.

is the BT right for you? that depends. it requires DDR3 memory, which is still very expensive. DDR3 won't affect your gaming performance or help you surf the web faster, but i can compile video with this machine like you wouldn't believe. memory-intensive programs just scream now. X38 is an expensive chipset and should only be considered by people who want the option to CrossFire their video cards imo. other than that, the board has stellar onboard audio and some very nice home theater tools, like its IR receiver built in. the IO panel has eight USB ports and two E-SATA ports, which are very convenient if you need that stuff.

i've basically only had mine for a month, but it appears to be rock solid and stable now that i've got it set up right. i'm confident that i can push my computer as hard as i want all day without having to worry about anything overheating or crashing on me. my CrossFire performance is awesome and i'm ready for the next generation video cards when they come out. i hope i can afford two R700's when they're released. i think i have about the 30th fastest dual core 3DMark06 score in the world right now.

Good news. I have everything back to where I was WITH the 1521 bios. It looks like what I had to do was raise the MCH up to 1.3. That is the only thing I did differently. I still have to flash from Windows, even though I know that's not the method of choice.

With that, just placed my order for an Intel DX38BT (as still no sign of the Intel X48 boards really), a QX9650 and the Patriot 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 Memory kit from newegg (my poor credit card went through a beating this morning, ha). Hope to join the BoneTrail club soon (as I'm back to Intel after running w/ AMD for a loooong time)! As enticing as OCing may be, most likely I'll be keeping everything stock speeds for now (though, having the option to OC and an unlocked CPU will definitely future-proof this system for a little bit if I decide to do so).

I'm most likely going to transfer my 8800GT to this new system (modded with a AC S1 passive cooler). I'm debating on whether or not to install my X-Meridian with all LM462 OPAMPs into this new BoneTrail system, as I keep hearing how good the onboard audio is. Does the onboard audio allow Dolby digital encoding from the digital out? I haven't seen it really listed in the specs. I'm guessing no DTS Connect either? Even though it's been discontinued, might still hold on to that Auzentech X-Meridian card after all...

the onboard audio is Dolby Certified and has the standard 7.1 mini jacks and an S/PDIF optical output. no digital coax jack though.

I'm holding out for the BT2, but following this thread closely.

I believe the X48 version (If that's what you are referring to as BT2) will be virtually the same board, as they share the same bios. With the exception of the 1600 support. Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

the X38 version supports DDR3 1600 memory with the latest BIOS. i'm not even sure what that means though. i've had DDR3 1600 memory in my board since i got it.

I was referring to X48BT2.

The 1600 support is for CPUs, not RAM.

We've been hiting hard on our BTs so much that new people in the thread think it sucks. Some people will say it does. I had problems with my mem initially not booting, because my mobo had a very early BIOS, mem support was mediocre then. Now it's running sweet so far, still at stock. Once you spend the time knowing it better it becomes great I think.
I'm still having a couple of issues but these seem to be software related, the Dolby tab missing from the IDT control center (maybe it only shows once you have a receiver connected, can anyone confirm?) and my SATA drives showing up as ATA, both HD and DVD. I had the INF from the Intel Express Installer DVD that come with the board installed (1016) and now installed the older (?) 1010 from the download site over and still the same shows up in device manager. Anyone else with this problem?
Just had a brief problem with audio, only front speakers would sound, now it's all back. Weird!! Didn't do anything special, just checking sound properties.
WingHeart, regarding DTS, it is supported through SPDIF out as well as WMA Pro along with Dolby Digital. Haven't tried, but it's there.
The DX48BT2 is out and is essentially the same board as far as I can tell, only the box is somewhat different! Anyway, the BIOS is the same. I guess yields are good for the X38/X48 now, most samples must be binned as X48 and now the board can be replaced. Both FSB and mem at 1600 were already supported for a long time in the BT anyway.

Yes,manel i agree.This is just a odd ball board.Best thing intel could do is remove watchdog feature,raise max FSB and give us some more tweaking options in bios.
Board has great audio.Bios is not the best at this time.But appears they keep working hard on it.If you are going to oc,just plan on spending alot more time on it then a most other boards.

- You have no problem with your drives in My Computer and no acpi errors in Event Viewer.

If yes, could you be so kind as to list what drives you have hooked up to which ports, e.g. SATA port 0 = SATA port 1 = and so on through SATA port 5?

I actually don't have more than one ODD, but have one DRD-RW in SATA channel 1 and HDD WD in channel 0, AHCI is set in BIOS and using default drivers, although with Intel INF installed (1016 first then 1010 on top of it, don't know if correctly replaced). Couldn't find any errors in Event Viewer and (in Vista not My) Computer shows no errors that I know of.
"Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller" is not present in my device manager, maybe because of the Intel INF, it shows "Intel(R) ICH9 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller - 2922".

However, my issues here are that device manager shows "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" with 6 "IDE Channel" and the mentioned "Intel (R) ICH9..." items when I have no IDE drives at all in my system, even the Marvell controller is disabled in BIOS. Also my drives show "Disk Drives -> WDC WD800AAJS 00PSA0 ATA Device" and "DVD/CD ROM Drives -> Sony DVD RW DRU-190S ATA Device" as if they were all IDE/ATA drives. What gives? Tried installing the Intel site's INF 1010 on top of the Express Installer DVD that came with the board 1014 but nothing changed. Maybe you have any hint?

Heres something just about anyone can answer.

1. Which motherboard connector(s) do you have your CD/DVD drive attached to? (PATA, SATA0, SATA1, etc.)

2. When you installed your Intel Chipset INFs, wehre did you get them from? (The CD that came with mobo, Intels DX38BT page, Intels main download center?)

3. Did you install the Intel Matrix driver software?

4. Which BIOS version do you prefer?

i considered editing my earlier frustrated posts in this thread so as not to scare other people away from this board, but i decided to leave them there. people should know how frustrating it can be to get this board set up. it's great once you get it where you want it, but the journey can be frustrating.

i even ran into another puzzling problem earlier today. i decided to OC my RAM to DDR 1800 so i could have a 1:2 ratio with my FSB. after trying various voltages and latencies, i still couldn't get past 11 minutes in Orthos. i gave up and decided to put it back to my known stable settings, which is 445*9 CPU and my memory at DDR 1333. it wouldn't POST. i tried everything i could with no luck. finally, i removed one stick and it booted on the first try. all was well. i replaced it with my other stick and it was still good. then i put both sticks back in and everything was back to normal again. i have no idea why it wouldn't POST before though. it makes me feel superstitious about my settings and scared to try to refine my OC.

i've been using the 1507 BIOS since it came out. maybe i'll flash to the latest BIOS and see if i have more luck getting that 1:2 ratio. the problem is that a simple adjustment can sometimes take an hour or more while my board just behaves erratically for no apparent reason. once i find a stable overclock, it is rock solid as long as i don't mess with my settings. but i think we've all come to expect a little more from enthusiast motherboards.

I have noticed many times that following memory or sometimes FSB changes i have to shut the PSU down completely...simply a reboot will not work. and most of the time once the PSU is turned back on and the system is powered up, it will not POST, just hangs on a black screen. give it a hard reset and everything works fine.

in other news, finally got everything working again after 1521. seems that mch voltage prior to 1521 is not sufficient for 1521, bumped it up and all is good.

I won one of these boards over the weekend at Intel's LANFest. I have it set up now with 2 Micron D9GTS modules that have an XMP profile for 1800 8-8-7 1.9v. This profile and these modules work on a Maximum Extreme board, but with the DX38BT, it won't post at 1800, or even 1600.

I've put the voltages at what they should be, took the multiplier down (which looks like it may do nothing anyway,) tried different latencies on the memory. I updated to the newest BIOS revision before I started with anything. Even at 333/1333 with the memory at 1600, it doesn't post. I know these modules can run at the specs I've tried them at, as I can run them on the ASUS x38 (They hit 2100 on 790i) so why won't they work on the DX38BT? Is there something I'm missing that needs to be set to get them to run at 1600?

EDIT: It seems the board wasn't pulling tWR in correctly from the profile, it was set to 6 when it was supposed to be 10. It's working at 1600 now, so next stop is 1800.

I did describe everything as asked, read it again to make sure. Anyway, never mind. Just tried to get some ideas to solve my problem as well but I guess no one has the same issue. This mobo really is a bag of surprises.
Anyway, sunday I had my very first BSOD with this board. I had just installed SP1 for Vista x32 HP, not sure it was related. Another hint, the PC had just come out of S3 state. Then it BSODed and restarted. Ideas?
By the way, does anyone know what the C2 state in BIOS (1521) means? If I remember correctly, the manual refers to it, maybe as a low power consumption state of the machine?! Guess I'll have to read it again.
I do get amused (well, not really) when checking out prices for hardware there in the US. You guys find it expensive to cash out 290USD for the DX48BT2, if I recall it correctlly the DX38BT would go for something like 229USD MSRP but you could get it for like 200USD or less. Well, just to show how much I wanted this board I paid 242EUR (yeap, that's like 390USD, right?!), imagine how much the DX48BT2 will cost here! All hardware is a lot more expensive here, usually it's like the same amount but in EUR instead of USD, sometimes higher.
It's a good board anyway, I guess mem support needs a little work still.
Just now my first boot was a no go, reset and it came alive.
Coming back to the BSOD, the culprit could be SP1 or maybe even S3 or still the Intel INF - I had installed recentlly the website's 1010 over the Express Installer DVD's 1016 which I installed right at the beginning. I believe after the BSOD, can't recall if it was there before, a new problem was reported in Maintenance->Problem Reports and Solutions - Problem caused by Intel ICH9, the solution would be download and install the driver. Well, not much help there. I also have reported a Problem caused by Windows with a solution to install latest updates (I guess before SP1) and another one sugesting to download and install the driver for Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network Connection, which I already have the latest 12.4 drivers installed, maybe it was reported before also. Funny little tool this one.

the funny thing is that i know it has shown lower values before on this system, not sure what's up, but i will go with the bios.

they're all at default right now, MCH is set at 1.250V.
It could be the mem voltage, it's now set at 1.78V and my Plats are rated 1.8V but so far this was not a problem, just that one time. too bad the voltage adjustment still has a quite high granularity of 0.4V, 0.1V would be perfect.
Anyway, I'll find the time to re-install everything from the ground up and see what happens.
My main gripe now is with the ATA/SATA issue, why the drives are labeled as ATA if they are not. Maybe it was when I flashed to the latest 1521 BIOS, the board initially had a very early 1251 BIOS still with lots of issues/bugs. Maybe re-installing will do the trick.

if you are have any instability issues, it would seem that you need to get that memory up to 1.8V (1.82 here)as recommended by the manufacturer.

shoot, i have my vMEM set at 1.9 in the BIOS. i don't know if that's because my memory is borderline or because the board has vdroop. at any rate, it won't hurt you to try upping the vMEM a bit and see what happens. your memory will be fine.

I had the 1866 Patriot earlier and they had 1.9 spec'd as default. My current 1333 is 1.7 default but I need 1.82 to run @ default and my current 1532. Isn't the memory you have 1.9V ?

I received my DX38BT and QX9650 the other day but have been waiting on the sidelines with both unopened to see if there were any improvements on the newly released DX48BT2 and if so, would return the DX38BT for it. Right now doesn't look like any gains and eager to start this build.

However, since I'm new to Intel after being with AMD so long (retiring a Supermicro H8DCE dual Opteron system with this bonetrail intel system) I'm still (re)learning about DDR3 memory settings and FSB settings.

Quick question that maybe someone can answer for me real quick (sorry if a bit off-topic). Say I do exchange this DX38BT for the X48 DX48BT2 and install my QX9650 with a 333mhz fsb, will it run with the faster, default DDR3 1600 memory frequency/timings? Or revert back to 1333mhz due to the detection of 333mhz fsb? I saw this briefly asked a few pages back with someone running a Q6600 in a DX38BT and when he set the memory frequency to 1333 it would drop back to 1066 due to the fsb of the Q6600.

Googling around, I've seen other boards able to run the default CPU speed and allow faster memory frequencies (although w/ not much gain). Does the Intel X38 and X48 boards allow this? Or revert any faster RAM to match the detected CPU fsb? (ie. is it possible to run my QX9650 at it's default fsb on a X48 with no OC and run a pair of DDR3 1600 memory it's default 1600mhz speed? Or would the BIOS automatically drop the memory frequency to 1333?).

Quickly switching topics based on a question asked earlier, after skimming through the online manual of DX38BT/DX48BT2, it looks like the onboard audio can do Dolby Digital Live encoding (http://www.dolby.com/consumer/techno...olby_live.html) but not DTS Connect (http://www.dts.com/consumer/pc/dtsconnect.php). While not a huge deal, I was hoping for the higher bitrates offered by DTS Connect and might hold onto my Auzentech X-Meridian after all.

From my experience, the memory will be defaulted to 4xFSB, however, you can adjust the memory divider to increase or decrease the memory bus frequency...check out gjt's memory calculator HERE and see what frequencies you can set your memory to. Dont know about the audio stuff, though.

All Else-
Has anyone had issues with setting memory timings that POST, detect (in BIOS and CPU-Z, etc.), and run correctly, but after you turn off the computer for the night it wont POST the next day?

If you run you fsb at 333MHz, the memory will be limited to 1333MHz. To run your memory at 1600MHz, you have to set fsb to 400MHz.

Last question -- just so I know I'll get the BIOS settings right the first time, on the DX38BT (or DX48BT2), using this memory - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231167 (DDR3 1600), would you manually set the listed memory timings/speed/voltage for DDR3-1600 (would it boot? I've read that the DX38BT can be picky with higher speed memory) or manually set them for DDR3-1333 speeds (and reducing voltage perhaps for 1333mhz operation?)?

my memory's rated voltage is 1.8 @ 1600 but i had to set it to 1.9 to pass Orthos and Memtest. i guess it's the motherboard and not the memory if yours does the same thing.

WingHeart, i'd recommend manually setting your memory's frequency, latencies, and voltage instead of trying to let the SPD set it. you might have to fiddle with it a little to make it stable. i'd also recommend running Orthos for at least a half hour before allowing Windows to install all its updates, just in case. unbeknownst to me, my computer was unstable for the first day of its life and i was running everything at default. i upped the vMEM by .1V and it was stable after that.

Just curious, are you running the PDC34G1333LLK memory kit (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220278)? Were you getting errors/BSOD when you left it as the manufacturer listed 1.7v at default (no OC) speeds with your QX9650?

Edit: Just noticed you're running the 2GB kit...wonder if the voltage would vary with the 4GB kit (as I'll be running x64 xp)

i'm starting to get occasional blue screens when Windows is loading now. it's rock solid once i'm in Windows, but a soft reboot seems to invite BSOD's. the solution is to power off, wait a few seconds, and power back on.

i would ordinarily assume my RAM is blame for something like that, but i always pass Orthos and Memtest with no errors. is it possible the 1517 BIOS is somehow causing this?

If I remember correctly, I would get random hard reboots in Windows and booting windows. Just "POOF!" reboot, no BSOD's.

Here's another new twist...

I pick up another identical set of memory modules to bump up to 4GB and play around with 64bit on a separate partition. I pop the two additional one's in hoping to run them at the same OC, voltage and timings - which I know probably will not work 100%.

I was correct, it didn't. So I start reducing the FSB little by little to get it stable. I was getting random reboots and file corruption, and finally set everything to default. And without any stress testing, everything seemed stable, so I started bringing the FSB back up and hit a wall much lower than I was at. I finally said the hell with it and got rid of the new modules and put everything back where I was.

I was stable now for over a week, but now I am back to random reboots after adding and removing that ram and changing the bios settings. Man this is frustrating that you have to fear something like adding memory or adjusting any bios settings that you may not get the same results.

I realize that even though those memory sticks are all the same part #, that they will OC differently.

Any advice on what might be happening when you populate 4 slots versus 2 ?
I really hate to bump the memory voltage up any higher.

yes I have had that happen. I wish I could give you what I did to fix it, but I have had so many issues, I can't recall. I know I RMA'd my board once, but I don't recall if that was one of the issues at that time.

this may or may not help you, but i have 4 sticks. however, i have always had 4, so dont know about 2v4 stuff...you may need to raise mch.

But one trick that i have learned for tweaking memory with this board is to
1) drop processor clock by 20-30mhz...say to 350 in your case
2) set mem frequency to the lowest possible while leaving mem ref the same
3) reboot
4) increase mem frequency 1 step at a time followed by a reboot
5) once back to desired mem frequency, bring processor clock back up.
6) tighten timings

by following this method i have been able to boot to and remain stable at 375x10 and 333/1333 6-5-5-11-50-15-15-15-15-1T (1500MHz FSB, 1500MHz mem PC-12000), now mind you that my q6700 is natively 266x10, 1066FSB...and i am still working on lowering mem timings.

also, after 1521 i was having all kinds of problems booting, so i bumped vMCH and loosened timings all the way out (but stayed with 1T Command Rate), found highest mem ref and freq i could boot to @ 266x10, started raising processor clock until BSODs or random reboots, backed off a bit, and then started working my timings back down.

I have increased the MCH twice already, where I was stable with default with the past bioses. It just doesn't make any sense of why you cannot just return to where you were after changing settings, but I guess a lot of things don't make sense with this board.

Randy, using 4 modules loads up the mem controller a lot more so usually you can't oc so much as with only 2. Also, you might need to bump the voltage. it's a sort of compromise, either mem amount or speed really.
Regarding going back to previous settings and not working the same way, it's strange really but you know this board, nothing is normal about it. Have you used the same 2 modules you had used first?

i'm Orthos stable for 12 hours and still get BSOD's when i soft reboot sometimes. Orthos apparently won't guarantee anything in regards to the BIOS.

Randy, usually vMCH but i believe you tried that already. Maybe vMEM also will help but not sure, don't think so. You can always use 2x2GB instead of 4x1GB, that would probably help but that's another load of money for you to invest in your rig. Maybe they accept the exchange where you bought your sticks.

it appears my BSOD's during reboot are somehow related to my Windows Firewall :rolleyes:. i have no idea how or why, but Windows loads fine when i have the firewall turned off. i can turn it on after Windows has loaded without issue.

i suppose it's just a terrible coincidence that i've been having so many software problems since i got this board. it still makes no sense to me as i'm running all the same software i've had for the last year, more or less. except IDCC, which i uninstalled a month ago.

one thing i've grown to love about this board are the simple aluminum heatsinks on it. nothing ever gets remotely hot on the board. it makes those copper monstrosities on Asus and Gigabyte boards look pretty useless.

Last week I changed out my 8800Ultra Superclock to a 9800GTX, after that every hard and soft reboot results in multiple multiple on's and offs by the MB. This used to happen only when I would remove power from the MB but now it happens all the time. I've reset the bios and still no go.

Sounds nice and fresh. I was going to say that I know that XP likes to fall apart on its self after a few months...especially if you have hardware error derived crashes and automatic reboots...possibly leading to BSODs, but doesnt really fit the bill here.

enter Maintenance Mode and make sure the Watchdog is turned off. i was getting that for a while and i later realized Watchdog had turned itself back on at some point. turning it off again fixed that.

Thanks for the heads up on the 9800. I wondered about your choice because in non SLI & SLI mode, I read the 9800 performed poorly compared to your Ultra. I tried a pair of Radeon 3870's a while back and went right back to my GTX. Mega problems. I think a lot of people see 9800GTX and automatically think it is faster than the 8800GTX.

i did some more experimenting and found Windows Firewall had nothing to do with my earlier blue screens. it's simply caused by a soft reboot. telling Windows to restart guarantees a BSOD when it tries to reload. telling Windows to power down and then pushing the power button to turn it back on again results in a normal reboot. i have no idea why.

Well, all these posted issues (unusual restarts, BIOS issues, memory (in)compatibility/voltage settings, etc) finally made me return my unopened DX38BT to newegg as I don't have the patience anymore for issues like this (I've already had my share and multiple board revisions when trying to get my H8DCE+ stable (as seen in this super long thread over at 2cpu - http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.ph...=h8dce&page=99) and after that swore I'd never go through something like that again). I held on to my processor and memory and going to see what the reviews of the DX48BT2 are (perhaps since they are technically special binned X38 chips, they don't have a lot of these posted issues ?). Also, keeping on eye on other X48 boards (Asus and Gigabyte) and perhaps the XFX/EVGA 790i mobos (though, after having nForce issues in the past, wanted to avoid an nvidia chipset this upgrade round...). Probably make a decision in the next 2 weeks on what board to get...

Or perhaps it's that time to 'switch' to *gasp* Apple... ;p

Rats. I fried my E6850 last night. The idiot who wrote the control software for my chiller forgot to test the part that's supposed to shut down the computers if the water temp goes critical. Of course, the idiot was me. Luckily only 1 of 3 systems on the chiller was affected.

On the bright side, while shopping for a E8500 to replace the E6850 I noticed that DDR3 has come way down in price and the BT2 dropped by $20 so.... I've got a BT2, Q9300, more OCZ DDR3-1800 and the E8500 replacement for the E6850 coming in tomorrow. :)

Right now, the BT is running a lowly E6600. Man this thing is slow.

awesome. let us know what you think of the BT2 and if there are any obvious differences from the BT.

It does and it did. It still works fine at stock speeds but it won't overclock at all now. I may put it into a spare XBX2 and just let it crunch.

As mentioned earlier, I added 2GB more memory and it hosed my ability to to run the memory @ 1521 and the CPU @ 10X380 without issues.

Nope. You have to tweak the memory freq, reference freq, fsb and mult.

Adding memory puts more stress on the MCH so that means increasing the vMCH, increasing the strap (reference frequency) or both.

I have to volt my memory @ 1.82 for stability. That seems high based on others I have read. Is there any corellation between a higher memory voltage and the need for a higher MCH voltage ?

i have my vMCH at 1.45 and my vMEM at 1.9, so you're fine. everything runs nice and cool on my system.

With 1.35 vMCH you've got plenty of room. Try 1.4 and see what happens. You shouldn't need any more than that at 380 FSB. The "strap" is the equivalent of setting the internal timings of the MCH. Just like memory...the lower the numbers give you lower latency but you have to keep the speed low to get it to work. The strap is actually the reference frequency. How do you have the reference and memory frequencies set now?

Generally speaking, if the system is running fine with 2 sticks then increasing the vMCH a bit can usually get you over the hump with 4 sticks. Both the vDIMM and vMCH are related to speed but the vMCH is also related to how many sticks the MCH has to manage.

after trying a bunch of combinations of settings, I just don't think my memory is going to get me where I want to be (wherever that is!). If I get the CPU close to 3.8, Orthos halts with memory errors.

You know, the farthest memory slot is packed so tight in my case. I may try mounting a fan over them temporarily to see if that helps.

This memory is funny. If I bump it over or under 1.82 it's totally unstable. Of course, with this board I never really know where voltages are anyway.

At 380 FSB, your pc3-10666 memory is running at pc3-12160. If it's rated at 7-7-7-20 at 10666, you're right on the edge. You may have to loosen the timings slightly to compensate for the extra 2 sticks.

OK, I got my BT2 up and running.

First, the bad news...
Don't expect it to fix any of the quirks if the BT. It's the same board with a "DX48BT2" sticker over the "DX38BT" painted on the board. Same BIOS as well, of course.

Now the good news...
Combined with the E8500, this thing is running at 460x9.5 with less vMCH. Of course the E8500 needs less vCORE as well but that's not related to the board. I haven't started tuning the memory yet.

Definitely keep us updated!

My system specs are as followed

Mobo : DX38BT
Ram : Patriot DDR3 Viper Fin (1333) pc310666 2x2gb
Cpu : Q6600
Psu : OCZ gamer extreme 1100 watts

My problem is this I am trying to get all 4 gigs of ram to register in my bios
while oc'ing the CPU to 1333, .... I can and have oc'd my CPU to 1333 by increasing the clock speed (fsb) to 333 but and leaving the ram settings at
default BUT this can only be done using 1 stick of 2gb of ram
I bought 4 gigs of ram with the intention
of using all 4 gigs but as of right now I have
not been able to.
I have tried numerous of times constanly changing
the settings in bios but no luck I'm really hoping
someone can help me out, thanks

In OCing to 1333 as you have done, have you tried running it with both sticks individually? The series of 3 beeps, in my experience, generally refers to faulty ram or not a powerful enough PSU, but you seem to have that one covered.

one trick with my setup that i have noticed, and posted recently, is that i cannot overclock stepwise (gradually increasing my FSB) to where i am currently (375x10) with my memory running at 333/1333.

i have to run the memory at 333/800, with the FSB at say 360, then boot, then shutdown, then up the memory to 333/1033, then boot and shutdown, then up the memory again to 333/1333 boot and shutdown followed finally by upping the FSB to 375.

any other method of getting to this combination 10x375, 333/1333 results in failure to POST.

but again, as far as the beeps go, havent had any issues since i first got my system and had to RMA the memory because one stick was bad...individually they both would boot to stock settings, both FSB and MEM, but not together...would get the 3 beeps.

Can you add your system specs to your sig?

what are your vMCH and memory voltages? and what memory ref are you using? ie 400/1333, 333/1333, etc

As of right now my specs are all
default ... But as that is only with

whatever default is I don't have
my system at work with me
when I get home I will give you the
exact specs when I do

such as 1333/400 , 1333/333
800/333 all while keeping my fsb
to 333 raising the vmch I not sure
what needs to be set in order to
proceed in all this.

As far as the 3 beeps I think there
is a bug in the bios because it did
that for a while with both sticks and using
The same ram it is fine now so I don't know
why but anyway at one time I found that
if I unplugged the 4 additional plugs from
the Psu to the mobo basically turned the
24 pin plug to the mobo to 20 the beeps
Stopped I don't know why but it worked
then after going to bed when I woke up
I had to plug them back in to make
the beeping stop
but when all settings were back to default
using 1 2gb stick everything works fine now...

But i will try your methodvand I
hope it works I really want to get
both sticks of ram in there
I would have 4 gigs then

You may have to boot with 1 stick, then increase some voltages a little before you get stable with 2x2gb sticks. Let us know what the rest of your gear is and we'll help you out.

I changed the title of this thread to include the DX48BT2 since it's the same board and BIOS.

I've started tuning the memory and it's looking pretty good. I'm now at 450x9.5 1333/333 7-7-7-21 1T with 1.425 vMCH (prime95 12hr stable). I was not able to get close to that with the X38.

Ghost, check your memory settings. if you have it set to Auto by SPD, it might not work. better to manually set your timings anyway. also, i had to overvolt my RAM by .1V to get it to run at advertised settings. i'm not sure if that was the fault of the Bone Trail or my RAM.

The DX48BT2 is available now but you won't see any benefit with a Q6600 and the DDR3-1333 memory.

So, here's where I'd start...
On the Processor page
vCORE: 1.3250
FSB: 333
leave everything else at default

On the memory page...
266/1066
7-7-7-20
vDIMM: 1.74v
Leave everything else at default

Let us know what happens.

Oops, one extra thing... Move the config jumper to maintenance mode and reboot. On the Maintenance screen, disable the watchdog.

The X48 isn't really going to help get the memory running at better than 1500. The X38 is pushing mine to 1800 (but they're 1800's).

I think you just have to find the right balance between FSB and memory speed. 1600 doesn't really "fit" evenly.

You're getting close...
Go to www.memtest.org and download the bootable ISO for version 2.01 and burn it to CD or DVD. Booting to memtest will give you a quick way to test without booting all the way to Windows.

Next put both the sticks in the BLACK slots and increase the vCORE by 2 steps. Now try varying the vDIMM up and down from 1.74 1 step at a time and boot to memtest.

If memtest passes 2 minutes with the default test, run test 7 and see what happens. (Press C 1 3 7 to run the test). If it survives at least 2 passes without errors, boot the machine to Windows and run Prime95 and see how it goes. If it fails at any time, go back to the BIOS and try varying the vDIMM a little. It can only take 1 step to go from stable to unstable.

333/1333 @ 450 FSB is a great place to be. If you can boot Windows at all then you're very close. You may have to loosen your timings or raise your vDIMM a tad to be stable.

I'm running 4 sticks. I had to raise my vMCH a notch or 2 to compensate for the extra sticks but it's been fine otherwise. If you don't have a fan on your MCH it might be a good idea.

i'm stuck at the same place you are. i'm running 450 FSB and can't get my memory to 1800 for that 1:2 ratio. i've upped vMEM and vMCH both to levels i wasn't entirely comfortable with and loosened my memory's timings all the way up to 9-9-9-28. still no love.

unfortunately, i have to run my memory underclocked at DDR1500 until/if i get this straightened out. i'm surprised that my DDR1600 memory can't overclock that little bit more. i may have overlooked something though. i haven't given up yet.

BOTH STICKS IN THE BLACK SLOTS
ram voltage at 1.78

PC wont boot into bios again
just sits at a black screen with a white underscore at the top right corner

when rebooting it a couple times it will also boot to a black screen then
the monitor will shut down completely

ALSO sometimes the monitor wont turn on at all ?

ive just gotten it as far as the intel logo AND it froze

Nope running 2x1gb right now. I wanted to see what it would do with only 2 sticks before putting the other 2 in. I'll probably do that tonight.

I think you're just going to have to tweak a little at a time to find a good spot. Try, 8-8-8-24 for the timings, moving vDIMM up or down a notch, moving vCORE up or down a notch, etc.

Leave the reference and memory frequencies at 266/1066 and the FSB at 333. Also, don't change the MCH or FSB voltages. At 333 FSB they're not overclocked.

You can also try setting your multiplier down a notch. If you're system boots fine then the problem area is the processor. If it still doesn't boot correctly, then the problem area is the memory.

Whatever you do, only change 1 thing at a time.

what's the purpose of putting the RAM in the black slots? does that force a 2T command rate or something?
