This board seems great in the beginning, but can we expect Abit to release bios on a steady pace? This is the decision maker better this board and the P5W-Dx for me.

yeah. i'm getting concerned the more i read this thread.

seems like getting 400+ prime/orthos stable is difficult.

wonder if a bios update will fix these issues easily.

if not, kind of makes me want to go over to the p5wdh

P5B is a very good board, espically for max FSB clocking. The 975X chipset has still proven to be faster than the 965 clock for clock. And since not many retail conroes are doing 4 Ghz with out phase or chilled cooling I see no need for the ability to run the FSB @ 500 mhz. The other drawback of the P5B or any 965 for that matter is no ability to run dual graphics with two full 8X or 16X lanes. As a gamer, with the current 4 Ghz limit of the conroe cpu's, the 975 chipset is the best choice for the fastest, dual graphics, 3.6 -3.8ghz everyday 3D gaming, web surfing, multimedia application, etc. cooled by air system.:)

3.6GHz is a great air speed particularly with power management. @ idle you are 6 x 400 or stock E6600 speed, and when you load the CPU up or change your window profile, boom, right to 3.6. Many of the latest E6600 seem to doing that speed on lower voltage too. This one needs 1.4v. for 3.6GHz.

i run my system almost 24/7 on 401 fsb, it dosnt pass orthos ,but realy dont care, the system is stable and i dont have any issues , only thing is that i get low 3dmark06 scores for some reasons

Discovered today with my AW9D max that when you disconnect a/c power from the power supply the BIOS resets to default.

Anyone else have this issue?

I hate that, I like to turn everything off via surge protector at night and I had an Epox board that reset the CMOS everytime. So annoying.

However I find a broad range of tests - superpi (dual 32m), Orthos (8 Hours blend stress), S&M stress (100% load), 3d marks and gaming) help you get an idea.

It all depends on the audience and demands I guess..

My post here is just to confirm that my findings are not unique to my system, therefore pushing Abit a little for a better bios for the whole overclocking community and not just a single forum of users..

give it a bash if you like, I dunno how much more stressful the priority settings make the test...

It seems that the Asus PRO boards can definatley clock higher for Orthos use and in some cases so can the deluxe too (1.85mch version), though there are always cases that fall short.

Who know what future bios revisions will bring?

The other remaining criteria is how comfortable the more laymen overclockers are, running air overclocking with over 1.5vcore, if their cpu needs the extra voltage, for them 3.6ghz is perfectly adequate when you consider ambient temp rises in the height of summer.

why not use priority 9 for orthos johnsally?as i know priority 9 is most based to test stability cause at this priority orthos uses lot of RAM and cpu utilization than priority 1.

I'm having troubles with this mobo...

There is no way to make it boot up with DDR2 PC3200 memory ? I have a pair of Micron PC3200 D9 "FatBody" sticks (they did 495Mhz Cas 4-3-2 few days ago) but the minium ratio is 1:1 and seems that the mobo doesn't allow me to run with PC3200 memory as the minium memory speed should be PC4200 (what this memory is capable of, for sure).

Do you think there is any solution ? I'm really pissed... I won't be able to use my fantastic D9 kit...

That's one solution but I think I've just got an easier one. It boots correctly if a 4:5 divisor is applied. So I just need someone to mod the bios and set it with 4:5 ratio as default (after doing a cmos clear).
Who could do it for me ?

Edit: Reprogram the SPD would be better... as I would be memory limited if I'm forced to use a 4:5 divider.
Will try thaiphoon ... any GOOD guide out there ? (the included one is so simple for me :P )

Here is the saved dump if someone could modify it to change max bandwidth to 266Mhz and timings table 266Mhz 4-3-3. Many rhanks...

Thats my first results for now.I beleave the CPU needs a litle more vcore over there so now I am testing again with 1,525(1,5 before)vcore and 1,75(1,8 before)real vmch to confirm this.
I am starting to beleave that it is the CPU's that are failing in orthos at that speed and not fsb.I also want to try 8X400+fsb.

In my case I know that my cpu can push 427fsb on the Asus P5WDG2 PRO, so I do think it's a wall....

Althow I have lowered vmch,orthos is running now for 10h 45m but I think I won't have time to leave it for a hole 12h because a storm is comming and without a UPS system is kind of riscy to leave it running.
EDIT: What vcore/cooling ere you using in screenshot and what max temps while running orthos?

Yes mine does.. I suspect a bad battery cause I know the cmos jumper is correct. I will change the battery off an old mobo and it should work right then.

yep max stable on dfi for me was 350x10. Haven't done clock to clock comparison yet but i can do it tomorrow as i get my 7950gx2 and so on :)
new bios for abit would really help too but one thing between dfi and abit for me is that abit got so much stable volts then dfi.
atm 360x10 on abit is orthos stable at least 3h and thats enough for me and 380x10 was no problem with little super pi testing only.

Most good 975 based boards don't need vMCH over 1.6v-1.65 until you start trying to get above 415-420. my Bad Axe will go to 426 w 1.65v, 444 w/ 1.72v and 456 w/ 1.82v

Vcore for that Orthos was 1.47 in bios, 1.53 actual.

That board is real steady over 400fsb, and with most D9GMH the memory speeds can be high right upto the limits of fsb... But the board costs more too.

BETA BIOS 13 is here. Dunno about the complete changelog. Flashed it with FlashMenu, worked fine. They added TREF to the RAM options and there's an option to dis- or enable PCIe slot 1 and 2. BIOS is dated 9/28, must be based on the alpha you have heard of.

I got my Micron PC3200 reprogramed to PC5400 so now I can go 1:1

This is going well, 406 x 9 (3.66Ghz) 1.400V in bios 1:1 Cas 4-3-2 (2.2V) cooled with Thermalright Ultra 120

Just ordered this board, a 6600, 2 gigs of Geil 4-4-4-12 PC8000, and a 7900GTO. Any tips or tricks for tweakin with this board you think may be useful to me? Should hopefully be here wednesday :woot: cant effin wait. with any luck i can run at 400fsb for 3.6, and 4:5 Ram so itll be at 1000.

hmmm seems everyon in the 4ghz club went with X6800's or 6700 with this board & extreme cooling. No 6400, you rhte only 6600, & my board won't do 445:(

I don't know if it's the 1.3 bios or not (i didn't try it before) but my system goes weird if I use 1.500V or higher. It has killed my raid setup ! i'll try to flash 1.2 final again and try it again.

It was the bios. Returned to 1.2 final an now there is no problem with vcore. 1.725V in bios, Vch 1.85v, vddr 2.3v, 4Ghz (446x9) 1:1 Cas 4-3-2, on AIR:

well i hoped that abit had already fixed this 7950gx2 and uguru problem but it's still there -_- I'm talking about this nasty bug what is that when u got uguru on in windows and u got 7950gx2 card it only works in single gpu mode and after u turn off uguru it can work multi-gpu mode...

Cripes!!!! The only way I was gonna stick with this board for my game was to buy a 7950gx2 card so I can free up the pci slot for sound but still game with sli. I'm thinking more & more of selling this darn board:mad:

i have this board but haven't built my system yet but if i understand what you're saying correctly...

if you enable uguru in windows then only one gpu works on the 7950gx2 and if you turn if off, then both gpu's work.

can this problem simply be fixed by turning off uguru before you run 3d/game benches? OR does the 1 core of the gpu remain disabled until you reboot and leave uguru off?

yep luckily u can "fix" it by just turning off uguru when u play/bench but still weird and stupid bug.

I've flashed from windows all times too (using winflash).

I'm the only one with this problem ?

My hard drives shutdowns every time I reset my computer ! This makes me nuts, I need to wait about 8 segons when Raid is loading every time... (they don't power up at POST, not until intel raid post is loading... )

i have a strange yet extremely annoying problem with this board. I have since reformatted twice only to have the same results. I change the windows appearance to "Classic Windows" to get rid of all the cartoony garbage, but 50% of the time upon a reboot it boots back up to Windows XP Theme. WTF! Im getting pretty annoyed here. This didnt happen at all with my DFI board. I dont even understand how a motherboard could cause this...

Hey I had that happen too! I thought it was something else like a bad windows install. I changed to the XP style but in grey and kinda forgot the problem until now. If anyone has some info there are at least 2 of us that would appreciate it :)

another overnight Blend Test, tested with lower vMCH (1.65v) & vdimm (2.1v).

P.S. I forgot to set back the RAM timing to 4-4-3-8, just forget it.

Actually I think it is locked @ 100mhz. If you try to change it in using guru in windows, system crashes.

you have had impressive results with is board, but considering your using an ES chip I can't see where its doing much good as a comparison since retail is what's available for purchase for most people.

Hi Nemesis,

from my observation, there are a lot of good B2 overclockers, especially the L628B121 batch, also, my ES is not that good, just I have no money to get a retail. :(

looking forward to B3 Stepping 7, I expect it will be even better.
