Well, I solved a number of my problems by doing the following
1. Put a fan on the NB
2. Moved soundcard to PCI slot closest to PCI-E
3. Changed PCI-E freq to 105
4. Turned off ALL advanced thermal throttle/performance enhancements in BIOS. Including any extra's I was not using (like serial/parrallel ports)
Basically all of the recommended stuff.
I think the biggest change was the cooling on the NB, my pic on the previous page you can see its just a temp fix, but now the NB HS is cool to the touch, whereas you would not have been able to keep your finger on it before.
System is totally stable now (well I only ran orthos for about 2 hours) but I could not get it anywhere near that before the fan on the NB.
Using F5 btw.
**Edit, oh yeah, anyone else have a board with NO heatsink on the south bridge? Mine is nekkid.....

Have you noticed a difference in temps?
Also, was there much trouble getting the heatpipe bent correctly so it would be the correct length/orientation?
You have a good understanding of whats involved DG, to look at, not many would pick the need for crucial alignment of the heatpipe. If not the right height, it would kickup the BT or pull up on the n/b cooler if too short, same with angle. I added 2 fibre washers to pushpins on n/b to help pull it in tighter, prolly a good help by itself. The original gunk on the n/b had dried up within a week or two, so it should be replaced asap. I dont seem to be able to o/c better, not that ive spent much time with that, im happy at 3.5 until the RD600 is on the shelves. :)
Edit] Yeah its from the Zalman HP80 vga silent cooler.
Temps seem better but i really need to test properly with and without. Was hoping to see a obvious diff, but not at this stage.

That would have been one of my concerns alright, the pipe applying undue pressure or tension toward either the NB HS or the CPU HSF.

Yeah sort of, 2x vantec stealths taking air from outside my house through 90mm ducting. In Tasmania we enjoy pretty low ambients, maybe 5c at night to 16c on Spring days atm.
Might try that paste and see if it has any effect.
not too dissimilar to the ambients I'd have here in Ireland.
the only think is its generally very humid here, so in order to do something similar, I would have to have something like silica gel packets in place to take some of the moisture from the air.
weird, because even if i set my VDIMM to 2.2V, Windows is not stable at all. at 2.1V its ok, but and 2.2 and higher it freezes right after Windows is loaded.Quote:

my DS4 keep failing dual prime ...everything is on stock settings (stock speeds etc) and temps are fine.

Found one odd bug in the ds3 f6b bios. If you enable all the power saving options in the bios (eist etc) and turn on speedstep in xp it lags the 2d desktop redraw speed. Reverting back to f5 final everything is back to normal.
Just read the first post. Is it really true that this mobo won't boot with Fortron psus? I happen to have an FSP Bluestorm 500W. I shouldn't even try or what?

Just one beep? It might be your video card atleast it was my when this problem was happening. I removed the overclock on my gfx card and BF2 worked fine for me. you might want to try that

Card worked fine up until now with my new system. 3d marks all run fine no probs, and getting expected scores.
1 beep alright, continuous, have to power of the machine to get out of the loop.
Also, no .dmp file is written, only thing I can find in event log is some network error about something not having rights to access the network. But seems to happen when I have the crash. (not a virus BTW)
I cant remember the details (in work at the mo so cant check). Tried the MS fix for it by amending permissions, but no luck.
It would hardly be that causing it, would it?

Thought maybe it was fraps causing the crash, as it had been running everytime. So alt-tabbed out, loaded up fraps, and played half a round, and it locked up.
So, reset my OC 400x8, ram at ddr800, but with looser timings 5 5 5 15
Locked up half way through a round, no fraps running.
Loaded optimised defaults again, ran without fraps, locked up again.
Took out my SB Live! using Azalia (sound wasnt bad actually!), thought that may have been the issue, but it locked up again, @ stock.
Grrrrrrrr. So I dont really know whether the board does not like my ram (although it would pass large FFT's for hours, manually stopped it) or maybe its my USB mouse causing the issue.
But to be honest, if I cannot game with my Logitech G5 (merely because its USB) I'd rather get a different board.
Any ideas?
Gonna try re-installing the game at stock speeds, and see if that fixes it.

I am experiencing reboots now also, even though I disconnected all usb and connected regular keyboard to keyboard connector and mouse to PS2 connector.
So USB is to rule out in my case.
Comp was stable for 3 weeks and only things I changed last week was 1) install raid array with XP and 2)install iexplorer 7 RC1
So in my case I believe it's something to do with this. I don't have a lockup but an instant reboot with a small squeal in the speakers.
Either there is a bug or my power supply can't supply enough power.
Well I'm using F5, so I think the USB thing was sortedf out, maybe someone can confirm.
Running XP Pro x64, the game just freezes, says 'there is a problem with your connection' and the screen locks, no artifacts, just a freeze, with a continuous beep from the speakers. Seems like ram, but no BSOD, grrr

Also, it is your responsibility to check to see whether or not the motherboard's capacitors around the CPU socket will interfere with mounting of the coolers as well.
BTW, you CANNOT use 2 back plates!!! Either use the one thats on the motherboard (if its the right type) or use the one supplied with the cooler. There should be no problem swapping the backplate
Is CoreTemp accurate with the DS3? I'm getting 43/44 deg idle on my 6600 w/ Scythe Infinity.
Thats what I get with my e6400 and 9500.
It takes the temp from the hottest part of the core (so people say). How it does that I dont know, but there ya are.

I have changed all the software,new drivers,new bios nothing helped. I have changed also the soundcard,but the same result. Do you think that this could do motherboard?

I've got it at 9x400, trying Orthos now... Vcore in BIOS is set to 1.475 I'm getting load temps of 65 deg in EzTune and 75 deg in Core Temp. PC will just reboot, not lock up, so I'm guessing that's not enough vcore?
Are those temps high for the Infinity, or just normal for that high of a vcore? I'm running the rig in a 3D Aurora case, and the Scythe is blowing the air right through to the 2 x 120mm fans, so I'm not sure airflow is the problem. Heatpipes are slightly warm.

You shouldnt need that much at all, your PC is rebooting because its overheating m8, and 3.6 just might not be possible for your CPU without some better cooling.

Try running your cpu fan at 100%

Looks like I can run one of the two so far:
-9x380 (approx 3.42GHz) @ 1.375 Vcore. Load temps in Coretemp with small FFTs is 60-62.
-9x390 (3.5) @ 1.425 Vcore. Load temp is 65ish.
EasyTune reports a CPU temp of about 10 degrees lower. TAT reports about 3 degrees lower. Both are Orthos stable for about an hour, will test overnight of course...
I'm not convinced CoreTemp is a realistic judge of temps. After remounting the Infinity, the heatpipes are barely warm. Plus, I have seen others getting temps of 75 degrees and proclaiming their rigs stable.

The only way so far is pressing the power button on my case. I tried to enable the keyboard and mouse in BIOS with no go. My keyboard is in the serial port and the mouse is in a USB port. With my previous MoBo (Asus A8N-E) there was an option in BIOS where a could define the 'space bar' to wake from sleep.

hi, i bought a ds3 to replace my dfi 975x... the problem is, my ddr2 667 mems dont seem to like the board, it wont even post with two sticks on it. sometimes it boots but it hangs even before i get to install windows XP. im using f4 bios right now, is there a specific bios update that i can do to fix the problem? thanks!
The default Vcore is 1.8v, have you set the vCore to your ram? Maybe that's the problem....Quote:

I haven't tried Orthos yet maybe I should. Some people have said that they are stable in Orthos but not dual prime. Others say they are stable in Dual Prime and not in Orthos. I'll have to get Orthos to check.
My E6400 is Orthos dual-thread stable at 3.2G with 1.35V but only on small FFTs and Gromacs. Large FFTs require 1.475V which is why I'm running at 3G with 1.35V instead.Quote:

It fails the Large TTF test like its a memory/NB problem once I get over 333. The higher above the faster it fails. I tried skipping and going straight for 400FSB with 1.5v at 9x, 8x, 7x & even 6x multipliers, wouldn't boot.
Some reason DS3 + 6600 = bad overclocks, unless you have a chip that does 3.6Ghz (9x400FSB). It seems you need a 975 motherboard to get a good OC :mad:

Just from memory, still during testing, so not tightened in at all:
ram set at 4-4-4-8 (CPU-Z reads 4-4-4-9?)
PCI-e set at 100.
PCI-e voltage set at +.1v
VMCH set at +.1v (not sure this is necessary)
Vdimm set at +.4v.
vcore set at 1.575 iirc
Mem set at x2
As i said, it needs tinkering. Maybe i can up my memdivider. IDK, seems no one is hitting 1ghz+ on D9 with gigabyte though. My voltages may be too high on MCH and dimm.
I have surely forgotten some settings. I will return when i have done a reboot - or you could ask, i can prolly remeber what i set things at i i am asked :)
F6 is best. It helped me alot on oc'ing.Quote:

I'm running a Scythe Infinity and get some brutal CPU temps mounted in a Gigabyte Aurora case. I'm swapping out the stock fans with some Yate Loons and throwing in a SI-128 w/ a Silverstone 120mm fan. The caps around the socket are EXTREMELY hot. I'm hoping the SI-128 will blow some fresh air onto them. Parts won't be here for a while, so I'm running default vcore. I have a Thermaltake Spirit II cooler on the NB.
The board has been great for me so far, but its just a standby until I see the RD600. Then I'm picking up the Abit or RD600. I think the DS3 seriously needs some cooling on the mosfets/caps around the socket.
Unfortunately I can't go with noisy fans (PC is in room beside master bedroom and the wife would complain) or water (cat and 4 month old son - and I'm lazy).

Wow, I really need help here. Here's the problem:
This board seems to really hate my X-Fi, or maybe just the BIOS. Sometimes after screwing with settings in BIOS, or on a cold boot, it doesn't detect my X-Fi and I have to repair its drivers from the CD to get it to work again. One thing to note is I forgot to clear CMOS after flashing from F3 to F6, so could that be causing it? I really would be appreciative of a solution here.
Secondly, on a cold boot, the thing emits one long beep throughout most of POST, then a couple shorter beeps, but Windows loads fine and the system is dual Prime and dual Orthos stable (8 hours).
Is the thing with the X-Fi just a noted issue, or what?

1st i thought it was my memory (DDR2-667) but then i raised the mem divider to 4:5 and i was able to do that (timings are AUTO):

I have to say i didnt try to do more. Maybe ram can do better...i ll try later. But that is not the case.
All voltages are in NORMAL mode. Tried to raise manually Vdimm by 0.4 but i got a FAILED msg in bios.
Why PC cant hold more FSB than 430 in 1:1???Am i missing something here?
Meh, EasyTune is a joke, pretty much. Do your overclocking the old fashioned way, through BIOS, and see if that doesn't change anything.
F6 bios should have some kind of X-FI fix.Quote:
