Dual Core Opteron Thread #2

been thinking about removing the ihs on my 4400, what are the pro's and cons
(i know removing takes out the barrier between your cooling solution and the heat source, but what sort of temp gains can i expect?)

also, i have read (in this thread i believe) that removing makes them a little fragile... i dont lan, but my g/f has no concept of Delicate Hardware whatsoever...

would a lighter (but less effective) cooling solution like the sl-120 (may have gotten code a little wrong... the 120mm TR cooler that fits all motherboards??) suffice for this? (light enough not to cause any problems if the case was bumped)

anyone have any High Quality Hearsay about ihs+air cooling solutions? :P tossing up between:
-ttBT with ac12(silence will be a consideration on one pc im afraid :( ) (possibly side panel intake duct) heavy?
-xp-90c with 90-120mm fan adapter with ac12 (artic cooling "cage"-look 12cm fan.. 74cfm, seems ok?) its heavy though
-sl-120, ac12+ side panel intake duct

anyone had any experience with the asetek vapo micro's? online reviews about it are not great...

Tankguys refuse to sell to the "high risk areas " including my country, which is fully stable and doing well , nesting among other EU countries.;)

Now I buy & sell on ebay all the time. I prefer usps myself and only have trouble when shipping internationally. But Gawd :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana: !!! Its been over a week since they've got my $$$ and still no cpu. The person I've been in contact with via email said he'd talk to his boss about overnighting another Monday.

Anyway I checked the feedback which I should of done in the first place and this seems to be a frequent problem. Good prices on some highly sought after CPU's everyone, but shipping & receiving seems to be an issue. I just thought I post back my experience before anyone else jumps on. By the way, the seller now says they can ship by other means if you request, so I strongly recommend it. Personally, I'm going back to Tankguys like I did before, or Give Dave another try. If this is inappropriate mods please delete just wanted to let others know how things have been so far.

yea. something is kind of shady with this seller. he sent me a tracking number and when i checked it, it said that it was delivered somewhere in indiana back on 1/31. i emailed the seller and he said that is was a customs tracking number (since i am in canada), but that doesnt explain why he gave me a number that was delivered in jan. its been over a week for mine as well.

i know for a fact that a certain store in GA is selling procs via ebay and is lowballing pricing. *shrug* if all you're after is price, then ebay is the answer but like Nemesis is stating above, you run the risk of losing your money.

listen, i know my prices are higher than other people but honestly, it's not an attempt to get more money out of ya'll; it's simply trying to make sure the balance sheet at the end of the month is cleared. it's a tough biz but definitely worth the fight.

I absolutely will not buy anything from Monarch. I always buy stuff Thursdays or Fridays and chose overnight shipping. I like to get my parts near the weekend and spend it tweaking and testing. I never have the time during the week and when I use to get stuff during the week I'd get so eager that I'd neglect work or stay up all night. Monarchs "Usually ships in 2-3 business days" + 2-4 to days of shipping just plain suxs.

Dave, your prices are extremely fair, and I don't think anyone feels you overcharge. You're cheaper than Tankguys & Excalibur PC, which are the only others I know that will give stepping info. We all appreciate each time you stop in and let us know what you have available. Now get some good stepping 170's so I can buy one!:D

to the peeps who have a dpmw 0610 at 3ghz stable do you think you could post some athlon 64 tweaker screenshots and some info to what your other settings are, thanks alot.:)

This is on my 0608, but I use the exact same settings for all dual core Opties that I try and they work great

the most important thing is MAL to 8, maybe 9 and drive strength to 5 or 7 and DDS to 1

Gabe needs to use your settings. My Expert/Venus boards won't even boot at 3.0+ with a weak DS with CE-6 memory.

He has UCCC though, if he just copies my settings he will end up having to clear CMOS

Quite a few people have Tras set to 0. It's just one of those things. It either does or doesn't work.

hmm, well i cant seem to get past 2.91ghz, i tryed 2.93ghz and prime failed in about 5-10 minutes, 2.91ghz is totally stable though. I cant seem to get my memory stable on the 166 divider, its stable at the 150 divider which is running at 242mhz but cant goto the next divider, prime fails in a few minutes.

Couldn't help myself, took the IHS off the 0610DPMW that I got a week or two ago, going at 3GHz@1.425v. We'll see if it holds up to increased temps of gaming, that's the real test

taking the IHS off is kinda tempting but if I only go from 2.91 to 3ghz its not really worth it, what was your speed before you took it off?

same speed before, just +.025v required. It may help more if your temps are higher, mine were good in the first place

is 300x9 @ 1.3v any good?
