So i have the following hardware:

Rampage II Extreme (1306 bios)
i7 965 EE
12GB OCZ DDR3 PC3-15000 CL9 Edition Reaper Low-Voltage Triple Channel (1866MHz, CL 9-9-9-28)

...and i have not been able so far to have all the 12GB running at 1866MHz (9-9-9-28)... it never entered windows (Vista ultimate 64) it doesnt even post :(

I'm not overclocking the cpu, it's runing at the default 3.2GHz, i'm using 1,65V DRAM voltage and i'm setting the ram timings manualy (9-9-9-28) and of course i set DRAM frequency to DDR3-1866MHz... i have tried lots of values for QPI/DRAM, so i'm not sure anymore, but i think the max i went was 1,4V...

I tried the same settings with just one stick (2GB) and it works... tried with 2 sticks (4GB) and it works... with 3 sticks (6GB) it works but it shows errors in prime95... :(

So i need help from you guys...

The big question is:

Is it possible AT ALL to have 12GB of DDR3 running at 1866MHz 9-9-9-28 on this mainboard ???? :shrug:

The other questions are:

If it is possible... are these OCZ sticks up to the task? :confused:

Also, if it is possible... what settings do i need to mess with?... for instance, how far should/can i take the QPI/DRAM ?


Like i said in the begining, i'm new at this bios tweaking... so i apologise for my basic/noob questions :D

I have read all this thread from page 1 and i have seen lots of you guys running 12/6GB of 2000/1866MHz sticks at lower speeds (1600MHz, for instance) that's why my big question is: Is it possible at all to run 12GB at 1866MHz ?

Later on i plan to overclock the 965EE on water cooling... but right now i just wanted to use my ram at it's max speed... but of course i don't want to fry the 900€ i7 :shakes:

Post your settings using the bios template at the beginning of the thread. It will be easier for folks to help you. 12Gb should run on it, try using the SPD setting for your memory.

Are you looking for settings? Just go through the thread and you should find some settings that put you close and then you can go from there.



On a different note, is the REII with the new B stepping going to be the revision 2 model? And also, will it be noted in the title of the board or will it be listed on the board.

Ok, stupid question, on the 1306 bios, what is VTT and how do I enable turbo mode? I disabled the TIM and other feature it shows in the bios, but even putting the multi on auto doesn't seem to enable it.

Now, this is my thought on the new B3 revision of the RIIE...this is not official, it's only a personal opinion, but I think it's going to be something like Rev. 2.02G or 3.01G something to that affect. It may also have different SKU# for it so we would know it's the new one.

Interesting about the B3 stepping, I am just wondering if it will allow people to get past the 222bclk wall. Also, I figured out the turbo mode finally, now I need to see if I can get 210 and 220bclk stable.

i using a D0 stepping and in comparison to my previous C0 the voltages required for a 4.0ghz overclock was significantly lower.
4.2ghz required only 1.25v Prime stable and runs on x21 multiplier all day.

Passed intel burn test successfully on x21 (sometimes it does fluctuates between 20-21)
but once i increased bclk to 210 x21 multi turbo Mode enabled (4.4ghz), HT enabled
run 8 instances of Prime95 the multiplier refuses to go x21 it stays on x20.

Tried changing BIOS settings of CPU Ratio to both Auto or x21 still the same

All power saving features in the BIOS has been disabled

BIOS Version 1306
temps on load are: 76-74-75-71

Any ideas? :confused:

CPU Turbo Limit is the actual name of the setting in the BIOS.
Just disable it.

Does anyone have the same issue where it seems the mobo drains the BIOS battery..? I'm on my second battery now and I'm getting cold boot issues where it seems the BIOS doesn't read my OC properly which results in a BSOD at some point..
Entering the BIOS, hit F10, shutdown and reboot solves the BSOD...

Sorry for this dumb noob question.

But I have looked at several CPU Temp programs and they all seem to display a Overall CPU Temp that is always about 10-15 degrees lower than the other 4 Core Temps that it they display. For example while running Prime95 I had an Overall (CPUTIN) Temp of 75, but the 4 Core Temps were about 85-89. So, I shut down Prime95.

Why does there always seem to be this temp difference, and which temp should I primarily use as my gauge limit?

What you guys think of this: I have turbo on and following jasonelmore guide I manged to overclock see the results the temps are good I would say under 50 is good temp, need start pushing the vcore down bit by bit see if I can get it lower, but its nice compared some these crazy temps i seen by some ppl over 75 cen any advice for further overclocking places provide.

Also memory overclocking I will do next, not sure how to go about this. I know there is still juice in my pc maybe 4.5gz clock..

tried to get past the bclk wall by raising the pci-e frequency ?
posershadow has passed the 222 Bclk so its not impossiable :up:

You are looking at Tcase. That's the temperature measured off of the IHS. It is not accurate at all for temp monitoring. You should only look at individual core temps and be guided by the highest core temperature. Use RealTemp 3.00 or newer or Core Temp to monitor the temperatures.

First you need to have a good chip that will cooperate with a high BCLK. Next, you need to have a board that will cooperate as well as other PCIE devices that will not crap all over your machine when you OC their bus. Then finally you can try OCing the PCIE in order to create more BCLK headway. Not gonna be easy on the R2E though.

Guys, having a problem with SATA channels.

I notice when copying files from blu-ray drive, AND watching a movie from my Samsung HDD, the movie stops and stutters and goes terribly slow, like the copying of files is disturbing it. When playing a movie from another HDD this doesn't happen.

In device manager I notice the problem hdd and blu-ray drive have the same "parent" and the hdd that behaves has a different parent. I am on Windows 7 with the latest intel drivers. I have bios settings set to Enhanced - IDE.

Does anyone know

1) How to get around this through software / settings
2) What sata channel combinations work well, which ones interrupt with eachother. In this example these two sata ports have the same "parent" and I think this has a negative effect.

Doing anything though like copying files from any sort of disk in the blu-ray drive, causes windows to slow to a crawl. Its a few weeks old blu-ray drive, performing perfectly, just windows and other hdd performance goes to 0 when its in use.

^ running Vista? I noticed in Vista that it has some major issues sometimes with disk access, be it optical or hard. I know in my case that it is not board or chip related since I have seen this on every Vista machine I had running.

Well actually running Windows 7 RC now but had it with Vista 64bit also. I thought optical disk transfer was using lots of cpu and therefore making different things slow, but cpu usage is still almost 0. Strange how even opening something like the start menu becomes so tied up when accessing optical storage.

Anyone with any insight, so annoying with such a fast machine, to see something like this happen. Cheers dejanh.

I have devices configured like this

4 Port ICH10 SATA Controller 1
- - Samsung Spinpoint 1TB
- - Blu-Ray (Windows 7 seems to recognize blu-ray drives, it says its a BD-ROM drive).

2 Port ICH10 SATA Controller 2
- - WD 500GB

I don't understand why all of you guys are having so much trouble getting past 222BCLK.

Mine is rockstable at 227X19...

It is a well known issue of old IDE bus.
When the drivers or hardware of DVD catch directly the famous/infamous INT13, nobody is working in the PC until it is released.

This is one reason why the new high speed SSD are interfaced with PCIe bus.

But this is not on an IDE bus, its a blu-ray drive on the sata bus.
