They're intended to protect the back of the board and regulate pressure when it's mounted in a case where the heatsinks screw straight to the back plane or if you use something like the Lian-Li back plate.

nice video Tiro - very informative
keep in mind guys, you are most likely NOT to get better temps than the stock HSs, unfortunately :(
i was thinking about it earlier - i wonder how the temps would be using something like the thermalright HR05-IFX? The mounting mechanism used by tiro wouldn't be hard to modify to suit.
I personally wonder if the TR-HR05-IFX would be better than the falcon mini's... the HR's are Cu+Alu & 1HP.. the Mini's are 100% Cu & 3HPs.. the only thing in the HR's favour is the fin surface area..
either way, I think the Mini's are beat by the stock/oem HSs due to outright mass
I should be receiving a sossaman setup soon  so ill give it a try. The TR heatsinks arn't that much money either but i'm sure i have one around here somewhere
I need some advice on what ram I need to get. I have another Intel board coming. been looking on the Egg and Ebay. Just not sure what to get. Thanks for any help.

Those prices are not that good because the shipping is about $5 bringing the price up to $15 per dimm.
RAM just needs to be ECC REG DDR2-400 CL3 memory. Prices will vary, but I think watching and auction can get a better deal.
220699328690 - 2x512MB dimms starting 9.99 with free shipping.
150524621608 - 4x1GB dimms at 12.50 with 2.99 shipping. unsure what it will be.
I grabbed 8 x 512MB about 2 weeks ago for $19 shipped on ebay. I sent Movieman 4 of those since it was a great deal.
Might just take some time to find the right auction.
Thanks guys. I will keep an eye out. I might have found a pair of the stock heatsinks. Would be alot easier and quicker.
I'm thinking of putting together a mod guide to turn standard s604 and s771 heatsinks into something that you can use on a Sossaman ... but it's gonna need some detailed measurements of all three kinds of 'sinks. If I can get it worked out it will open up a whole load of source units for the Intel boards.
IS it the step in the Abbheatsink that make is different from the others?
I found to places that show the ABBHEATSINK in stock. Just my luck they are closed. I emailed them to see how many they have. I may have to buy all that they have.
I have a bid on a gig of ram. I called a place about the abbheatsinks. The guy said the web should them in stock. He took my number and said he would check and call me back. If I don't hear back from them I may get Dave to give them a call.
For heatsinks for a sossaman its very easy to use stock socket 604 sinks on the intel board. All I did was cut off at the point were the heatsink becomes thinner on the base and take off the mounting screws so theirs nothing to hit the board then just use some machine screws springs and nuts and your good. load is at 40 or so in a rather warm room. Thinking I might do up some more heatsinks if anyone is intrested in a bolt on solution for cooling.
