Seriously, where is this memory divider thing? I can't find it anywhere!
And do I benefit at all if I do change it?

And when people are saying stuff like 1:1 and 4:5 are they talking of fsb/memory first or over way around?

The vcore sounds really high from what I've set it as and what you guys are mentioning. I'll turn it right down but what is acceptable? I've only got system fan at the front, papst fan at the back and an artic freezer 7 pro for my cpu cooler.

Hyperpath3 is disabled along with everything else on that page in the bios except for microcode which is enabled but I'm not sure what that does

VMCH and FSB is set to max. Any reason why fsb should be auto?

The memory divider is the DRAM frequency setting is where you said you had the memory on 800MHz and the next step down is "something like 600Mhz". The ratio is FSB:DRAM.

I currently have my FSB @ 333MHz and the DRAM frequncy @ 666MHz. Since this is DDR memory, you divide the memory freq. in half and get 333MHz or a 1:1 ratio. (Your FSB is 400MHz and the DRAM 800MHz so you are also using the 1:1 divider.) If I use the 4:5 divider I'd get: 5/4*333*2 = ~833MHz. It might be nice if the DRAM feq. setting would parenthetically show the divider next to the DDR freq.

As for what to set the Vcore to, just off the top of my head, try ~1.4v as a starting point. I like to find a setting I can boot to XP but error pretty quickly in Orthos or dual Prime95's and then work my way up from there. What works best for you will mostly depend on your particular chip and your cooler. You could start where you are and work your way down, but at ~1.5v you're going to want to check your temps when the CPU is loaded.

Disabling Hyperpath is advised. No idea about the FSB termination voltage. VMCH is at what? 1.85v? You may need to leave that there to maintain your current FSB speed. I believe I have both of these on auto, but my FSB isn't OCed that much.

How much voltage does the MCH need in order to be overclocked? Is auto 1.55V? I have to increase it to 1.65V in order to have a stable 400MHz bus. Is that normal? I have to increase it even more if I want to go above 400. Is that normal? How much voltage can it take and work 24/7? Does changing the stock cooling help?

But I thinks it is good to clear things up regarding the MCH...

well my motherboard goes all the way up to 1.85vcmh. i think thats ok as long as you have adaquate cooling in your case which is pretty much any case nowadays.

if you are pushing the MCH way up it is advisable for you to get better NB cooling. HR-05, extreme spirit II, and swiftech mcx159-cu are a couple of good ones to look into.

But my geil memory is rated PC6400 800Mhz memory.
Would I be knacking up my memory if I go overclock and go over 800Mhz?
And from what I said before, what performance decrease (or increase) if I drop to the divider to show that the memory is 600Mhz?

Oh to the other guy. My MCH will only go upto 1.65. I got an early revision serial number 66 (at the beginning) which was disappointing for me... :(

Be careful with the HR-05 it won't fit due to clearance issues with CPU coolers and video cards, as experienced by myself and others on this thread. ;)

for an e6400 OC'd at 3Ghz, what do you guys recommend the MCH voltage be set at? I have it at 1.55, but sometimes I get these really odd restarts that occur when the CPU is under minimal load, and I was wondering if maybe not enough volts are being pumped to the MCH because I dont know much about it.

is 1.55V at 375x8 enough???

Try it at 1.65.
Did you remove the tin covers from the two bridge heat sinks to allow more air circulation?
I did - you should. They are attached with sticky stuff applied to the foil.

Hi guys, i've already posted this in the "making ur p5w ready guide"-thread, but I'll just post it here again just to be sure.

I remounted my NB heatsink with AS5 and now my mobo doenst want to power on. The green LED is lit, but it doenst respond in any way to the power switch. No fans spinning, no beeps, literally nothing. Anyone got some suggestions?

I tried:
- The mobo with only the cpu, mem installed.
- Tried inside my casing and also outside my casing(on a cardboard, so the mobo isnt short-circuited by the case)
- Checked both ATX & 4pin power connector.
- Checked the power button of my case, tried with the reset button and also manually connecting the power on pins.

:( cud use some tips and help

ATM the only thing I can think of is did you clear the CMOS?
Do you have a different power supply to use?

I had the same problem before i upgraded to 1503. I then kicked the voltage up one notch. Its been rock solid stable since.

I have my MCH at 1.65v and it does require active cooling in my opinion, when I put a finger on it without the fan running it is hot, about 70c according to my temp probe. It stays around 37c with the 40mm fan running.

I there a new BIOS supporting Q6700 and his unlocked multi? From what i read from Shamino , when you play with multi upwards only one of the cores is responding...

WTF, I have a Antec Neopower480, never did anything strange to it.... Anyways, I just unpacked my sisters newly arrived Antec Sonata II casing with a Smartpower 2.0 450W PSU and my mobo powered up!!

You didn't use to much AS5 and short something out under the NB? Since this is the last thing you did before your mobo troubles I'd remove the NB heatsink and see what's under it.

I did :D but that was about NeoHE's :P its a diffirent series + no real explanation is given why not to use them.

And everything worked fine for 2months with that neopower480 psu, anyways, shall get an OCZ now :)

Just checked, the box of the gfx card says 450Watt or higher recommended :D hehehe... cud have been the problem if I only have 480 and running 4HD's, 1.6vcore and 2.4 on RAM etc. + fans :) I didnt even have my 25W Delta-beast-fan connected hehe.

I see I still have warranty on my PSU btw, but the shop only has Tagan or Antec Truepower III, no OCZ :( (fanboy) whats the best of these 2 u reckon?

I would not get an Antec and I am not familiar with the other.

I had a power supply fiasco last week when a 12 or so day old Thermaltake 750 Toughpower blew out and remained on! My rig was running but the PS was not supplying power to any of the drives! 12 volt rails were dead. We were having dinner at the time, and smelled something burning, it was not our dinner.

So I purchased a PC power and Cooling 750 watt power supply from Newegg for $199.00 and now things are running fine. It would have been a disaster if my video card, and drives, and even the MB were cooked by a POS PS. :shock: :dammit:

And of course I lose return shipping costs and most likely 2.5% because I purchased with some cash I had in Pay Pal. :slapass: Oh well...

Buyer beware!
