haha. I know what you mean about the embarrassing thing. Mine won't sleep or hibernate properly without rending the world in twain, and nobody has a clue what's wrong with it. I've decided to just live with it.
Anyway this USB thing - is there enough power? Also have you updated the chipset drivers?
oh I see you've said it's not the power supply.
Sounds like maybe your southbridge needs updated drivers. The newest intel release for the chipset the P5W uses was a couple of weeks ago I think.

You are right about the WiFi running off a USB port. It sounds like a +5v power problem. Maybe it's not the fault of the PSU but something on the board.
Hi can someone please help me with two problems with this motherboard? thanks in advance
(1) Crucial Ballistix 2GB 8500 would run fine at the stock speed if the cpu (E6400) is run at stock speed, however when I push the cpu to 3.2Gb, I would get all sorts of problems in WINXP even at 8500 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2v, doesn't help if the voltage is increased to 2.3v, very strange! Corsair Dominator 2GB 8500 ver 4.1 wouldn't even post!! is this motherboard plagued with memory incompatibility problems?
(2) this is a more recent problem, my pc would freeze at WINXP (SP2) boot screen, I figured out that if I turned off Jmicron in BIOS things would return to normal, is this a software conflict or hardware issue?

I posted in the thread before and now it hit a million I thought I'd try again. FCG was bussy with a Vgtl+ mod for this board to help the quad cores clock higher, but he never finished his article about it.. I know p35 boards are cheap but I want to keep this one and be able to get some more fsb.
So, anyone heard about a vgtl mod? Anyone at all? Please?

I actually bumped into the same problem. Sometimes it would help if i would disconnect my external harddisk (which is running over the firewireport). And sometimes it would just get stuck, no matter how many times i tried restarting.Quote:

Actually this won't work. The Jmicron needs to be disabled in order to get into windows, but then because the driver can't detect the hardware it won't start the installation. Any other ideas?Quote:

anyone else had the dreaded atimkdag driver resetting error on here? It does this as soon as I load up any 3d app at all (including stuff like Google Earth). So it makes playing games impossible. I've tried cleaning the drivers then reinstalling etc, still the same.
Some people are saying it's because the Northbridge on intel boards can't cope with an overclocked cpu and the gfx card. Is this right do you think?

I caught some sort of malware thing causing popups and a crashed Desktop, so I did a complete reinstall of XP.
Now that instability I'd seen a few times before has come down to Flash 9 not just crashing IE7 or Firefox 3, but rebooting the PC.
Problem is, Flash 8 refuses to install when the OCX refuses to register. Has anyone else had problems with Flash 8/9 and care to share how they got them resolved? I do need some sort of Flash support for various websites that are otherwise blank pages.

Oh, important point after some reading: I installed SP3, which is blamed for IE7 and Firefox 3 crashing while viewing Flash pages, but I don't read about any rebooting like I'm getting...

Hello guys , I just wanted some help , I have P5W DH and I'm using long time , just like 3 years without no problem , but now i see some strange problem , when i need turn on the pc i hear the vga fan without screen responce , so i must restart the pc , and i see signal , after that it says overlocker failed , choose f1 or f2 , i must choose f1 , than it works without any problem , so i dont know where is the problem , could u plz guys give me some advice.
I forgot somethink else about a week ago i cleaned the tonic tower and reapplied the artic silver 5 , so mayby the headsing is not good or dont know .

Change the battery, use a can of air to blow everything off, and hope for the best...

You should never have to pull the battery after a failed overclock, even if except under absolute worst conditions, except to replace it. The thing many people seem to not do is to UNPLUG the mains before clearing cmos. Turn off the PSU, if you have a rocker switch (only old or crappy psu's don't have one), then unplug its cord, then hit the power button to try to power the computer on (this can release extra stored current; you do NOT have to do this though), and then clear the cmos. This should get you back up and running.Quote:

I've no problemes with the new service pack 3.
My System runs great, I've never had any real problems with the Board (Revision 1.02G, Bios 2704).
The other parts of my system are Core 2 Duo E6600, GeForce 7900Gt (before: 7600GT), 4Gb Ram, 4x 1GB DDR2-800 Corsair TwinX XMS CL5.

I got a problem encoding - After a while it will just switch off.
Sometimes straight away sometimes after about 60%...
But it always switches off when I'm encoding!!!
Everything else works for me so I'm quote puzzled why my PC switches off when I'm trying to encode.
Can anyone help me out?

Also, can I just ask if anyone has any experience of installing Leopard with the P5W? I know it's supposed to be one of the best boards to do it on.
Which is the better 'distro', Kalway or iAtkos, for this board? Any major things I should be aware of? i know i should disable the JMicron controller and that's not a problem. Is it OK with SATA? What about overclocking, is it OK to do that?

Well guys after a year or two of using this board and also considering the ICH7 is not new anymore I am very dissapointed with how buggy the matrix storage drivers are. Over the course of time me using the board the ICH7 ACHI/RAID drivers have caused me some problems.
It seems I either have to have slow drive performance on the ICH7 or instability if I want full sata features.
I have now decided to move my OS drive to the jmicron sata port and will run that in ACHI mode. So the raptor has command queueing.
All other drives on the intel controller in ide mode, which is at least stable with full write caching features.
I have concluded the intel controller is ok for raid (on xp, vista has a lot of problems according to google) but for non raid the driver development has failed and the hardware review sites made the mistake of only testing raid configuration on the controller.
Summary of problems I have had.
Initial driver version in AHCI mode I think 6.x version, very slow drive performance, write caching completly disabled on both intel and jmicron controllers, the intel driver overules the jmicron driver.
7.8 version RAID driver, the driver stopped overuling jmicron and now the jmicron drives have write caching and perform excellent, the intel drives appear to have limited write caching or at least write faster than the older driver version however can still not toggle write cache in device manager.
8.0 version, I think these are beta drivers as not available on intels website, these drivers at first seemed to be great they allow full write caching and can toggle in device manager, but I keep getting weird issues like pauses and iastor timeouts. The same iastor timeouts vista users get but I run XP. This is the only version of intel matrix drivers that actually run my drives at full speed, no stuttering in video clips etc. and fast writing due to cache. These drivers are beta to be fair tho so hopefully the release versions will keep the write caching and be stable, but until then I be changing my drive configuration.
Some of you if you say well you should be using ide for single drives please bear in mind I want command queueing for my OS drive and that sata supposedbly utilises better power saving.
How did you guys configure the board for the Q9450. I am trying to configure the bus for this processor but don't know how to over clock it for this processor. Would appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks

It's because you have an old revision of our board, my rev. 1.04G can set any voltage from 1.25V on 45 nm CPU. However your lowers setting 1.45V not so high, really it's about ~1.41 via Vdrop.Quote:

One thing coming from this is, from now on if I get a new motherboard with some later minor revision that doesn't seem too important at the time, I *WILL* RMA it immediately for the newer version. At no point did it seem like I was losing out on functionality, only overclocking my E6300 by just 1Ghz. Hello, I am going to install vista here shortly. I use a raid 0 onboard setup and for windows XP i just preload the drivers on the cd so i dont have to have a floppy drive hooked up to my computer. I here vista doesnt need a floppy to load the raid drivers. Also on the asus site there is no intel raid drivers for vista. Are they already loaded into vista?

I don't know, but if any such patch exist, it will be rather difficult to install it, because it requires some skill in deep OSX maintance via console commands. You can ask on special OSX forums.

Why you so afraid to set minimal 1.45V on 45nm CPU, that can be set by old revision of P5W? With vdrop really it`s only about 1.41v. It`s not so high, due to Intel specs they say about 1.45V as maximal vcore on Wolfdale and Yorkfield (it`s real 1.45V, so it`s about 1.49V if you set on P5W). Many retail vendors sell factory overclocked systems even with 1.5-1.6V clocked QX9650. And also to overclock 45nm CPU just over 4GHz often needed about 1.5V. My E8500 works at 1.4V at 4GHz and at 1.5V at 4.2GHz on P5W. I think better to change to LGA1366 board this winter, then to change from old P5W revision to newer or to other X38 or similar board.
Well, that depends. What temperatures do you (or would you) get under load with a E8400/E8500 at 4.0ghz and 1.45V if you are using a quiet CPU fan (1000-1500rpm)? I am guessing it gets pretty hot and might not be a workable configuration 24/7.Quote:

it seems that i can only use
the 3 near the south bridge
and one ez raid on the right coz when i use both even i enable it on bios it doenst detect the one on the left
also i noticed the one near the processor is a little bit slow let say only 1-2mb/sec on the hdd tach but when i put the hdd on the other slot it goes upto 219+
I use 5 SATA harddisks in non raid (AHCI)
3 x Intel sata
1 x bottom right sata port
1 x Jmicron sata port

I installed 2801, but can't see changes. Multiplier is steel not working on 45nm.
I test today at 4208MHz and 1.425V, Real Temp shows 65-70, CoreTemp always 10-15 above RealTemp. ASUS Probe2 maximum was about 40. Copper tubes and above CPU hot is something more than my hand. I think it's real 40 on CPU, core maybe only some degrees more.Quote:

I was interested on buying the Q9450 but I saw here the vcore setting problem.
So I looked at my board revision which was 1.02g.
Then I went into the bios. Its version 2602. I entered the manual vcore settings and I discovered that I was able to select from 1.225v and above.

I'm not getting anything but AUTO, no matter what I disable. I checked the manual but it's way out of date now: what's supposed to be disabled to get multiple vCore values to pick from?...
Don't you have to set the cpu settings first, and then save and exit BIOS, before any manual settings become available? That's how I remember it always after every BIOS flash...
I thought I'd saved and exited several times, but now I go back and look and the manual range of vCore is available again but is still 1.45V through 1.7something.
Virtualization is also something you have to choose early after a flash: I can't touch it now.
So either the message about voltage problems isn't getting through, or they just think the early revisions have been replaced by now and refuse to support them properly. I'll have to call in to the folks who supplied BIOS chips before and see if they can transfer me to somebody who might help talk to the BIOS group...
You sure you disabled the automatic fans? Forgot what its called, but there's an option to make the fan's rotate depending on the heat of the processor. It has to be off to change the cpu's voltage.Quote:

guys I got a 8800gt a couple of weeks ago and noticed the slow bios problems others pointed out, I did some research over the last day or so and initially thought its because this board has pci-e 1.0a slots which apperently are not very compatible with the 8800gt pci-e 2.0 cards. My 3d performance is fine, 2d performance in windows seems slightly slower than my 7600gt was. But it seems there is some kind of generic problems with all the 8800s on this board in the bios? even the pci-e 1.0 versions. Its not a major problem just bit annoying browsing the bios feels like I am on a 386 but at least I can see the post now, before it was too fast as my tft doesnt adjust fast enough.
hey guys, i have a 45nm processor (E7200) with a p5w dh deluxe rev 1.04g and i'm not able to modify the vcore, it just says AUTO, and nothing can be done :(
i've already tried all the posible solutions, i flashed the bios twice, from 2602 to 2704, and later 2801 :mad:
if someone find the solution please help!!

Ok, after a week talking with asus technical support, they answered me this:
The problem was notified to our engineers, please be patient until the fixed bios will be released, you'll be able to download it from the ASUS support website, thanks!
