5870! 5870! What about the little brother 5850? :D
Any new 5850 reviews? I would love to see how this card performs.

Check this review in a few days
 no mention of this card in Japan yet
TPU review has simulated 5850 results via disabled shaders + 5850 reference clocks forced on 5870. Conclusion: 5850 is 10-15% slower than 5870.
well still wait for 5850.....i think best bang.......:)
Heheh, I was close :p::

I bet we can reach 95% by cat 9.12.... lets go ATi!!
edit: It's more impressive with 8xAA:

looks like dual 50's will be the top deal for the generation yet again.
I'm still wondering if it is wise to upgrade my current GPU (4870 1GB) to a 5870 1GB. I play at 1080p, and personally don't really see that much of a difference between 4x AA and 8x AA (or more). Same as with more than 8x AF. I guess a 5870 2GB would probably be better choice, since I run out of VRAM at times.
From a casual-bencher POV, would it be wise to upgrade?
My 2x 5870s will be with me tommorow, they have been shipped from OCUK thismorning :) cant wait.
Wanna soft-voltmod your HD 57x0/58x0? http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...r_HD_5870.html
Is HD5870 bandwidth starved..? these games where 4870x2 is faster suggest so:
FO3 82.5 72.3 14%
FC2 75.6 66.5 14%
RE5 124.9 98.9 25%
BAT 131.9 108.2 22%
HAWX 105 74 42%
5870 is double everything, so just as 4870x2, although not handicapped by lower 750Mhz and CF efficiency. Only explanation is x2s 230GB/s vs 153GB/s bandwidth.
Solution? 6Ghz GDDR5 chips would provide 184GB/s - that extra 20% should close gap. However, to get 230GB/s would require 7.5Ghz GDDR5... AMD probably left room for the 5890!
-------------
It is very very doubtfull that nVidia would go from 384 GDDR3 -> 512 GDDR3 -> 256 GDDR5 and end up with similar bandwidth limit issues and thus barely faster than GTX285. Highest GDDR5 chips in spring 2009 (when first cards fabbed), are 6-7Gb/s from Samsung. Thus, both nVidia and AMD probably have either 384 (1.5GB) or 512bit (2GB) parts by early spring '10!!
That thing looks great I think. Is that the 5850 or 5870?
They are back in stock at Tigerdirect.com ;).
No, it's not.
And SLI / CF is like running the framebuffers ( GPU Memory ) in RAID 1 ( Mirroring ), not RAID 0 ( Striping ).
Meaning, the effective bandwidth in dual-GPU cards is the same as a single-GPU card using the same core.
The 4870X2 has 115Gbps not 230Gbps memory bandwidth.
TigerDirect says "pre-order". Did they say "in stock" for you? I did place an order for the Asus 5870 for $391 shipped with $40 Bing Cash Back. I can deal with $350 all said and done. Hope it ships soon. Way cheaper than NewEgg for me since I live in Cali.
I really only needed a 5850 since I game at 1920x1200 but with the 5850 priced at $259 I hope the 5870 is worth the extra $90.

Check these! 1050 Mhz core easily. 58x0 should be great for OCing! :D
4870x2 = 5870
5870 is like two 4870 cores.
(if we don't agree on this, then we need to take it up with AMD presentation slides).
4870x2 is 750Mhz, and CF CPU overhead and inefficiency
5870 is 850Mhz + IPC efficiency improvements.
How else do you explain 4870x2 being faster by up to 45%?? [EDIT: typo... its 42%] Magic?
BTW: 230GB/s vs 153GB/s = 49% more - coincidence?
The only other explanation is that 5870 uses different code path than R7, and is so poorly hashed together. But, if that was the case, 5870 wouldn't be faster than 4870x2 in other games (where 850Mhz 1600 SP is more influencial than 153GB bandwidth).
[EDIT2:
I also noticed GDDR5 can't be overclocked past 1300Mhz (8%).. even though volt-mod allows 1000Mhz+ (20%+) on the GPU, the performance improves only slightly corresponding to slight memory speed bump - I'd personally wait until they have cards with Samsung 6Gb/s or even 7Gb/s chips or the inevitable 5890 that will be released to spoil GT300 launch]
Broke down and finally bought an xfx one from http://linkecomputer.com/ but I didn't realize until after that they are hk based. Here's to hoping I don't get screwed, lol.
the 5850's look interesting, according to fud they overclock to the same levels as their big brother, wonder if the disabled shaders will be able to be unlocked at some future point like on the old ati 850's
Asus looks like the ideal maker so far. C'mon Hemlock! How long are these 5870's anyway? They look long enough.
***EDIT*** Never mind...Found it....28cm or 11 inches according to one review. Damn that is long. That was exactly how much space I had. Damn I hope Hemlock is not any longer.
ya, i just checked my case as well and even my 4850 blocks one slot of the hdd cage. if i remember the length of the 4850 correctly the 5870 is as much as 5cm longer! bad thing is, due to the 5870's dualslot cooler one free hdd cage slot isn't enough to fit the card in my case... since the hdd cage has 4 slots from which i use 3 a 5870 won't fit until i remove one hdd from my pc  now that sux :p::(
