Thanks for the advice.

Haven't gone all out on vmods and measure points on this board, yet, for this simple reason--all the way up to 9*370, I've been essentially running the lowest settable voltages--vcore minimal (1.2375V), vmch (1.52V), Vdimm (2.2V). I think when I hit up middle range voltages, I'll start installing measure points. My gut instinct tells me something else is holding me back, I have trouble believing in such as enormously vertical wall that suddenly requires 10 notches up on the core and mch just to achieve 5mhz on the fsb. Then again, I could be wrong. I do have a little secret weapon. 12 channel panel voltmeter!

Will probably install the vfsb mod when I feel its likely holding me back. Using memset. Talking orthos blend--yes I know there are a lot issues regarding orthos blend, but I still think its a useful serious stressor for under fsb 400. Currrently using 2x Crucial Anniversary's, I've got 2x Ballistix on the shelf.

Well, looks like my hardware modding pulls me thru once again. Since my nb is my most serious upgrade, I'll think I'll chalk it up to that. Onward and upward!

9x379 sp32m stable.

orthos blend 30min stable.

Settings: 9*375 memory 1:1 5-5-5-15-35. Vcore 1.2625v, vmch 1.65V, Vdimm 2.35v.

I know, hardly the most strenuous of testing, but a huge improvement from just earlier today. No dual sp 32m, and orthos inevitably fail within 30s.

Probably take home point--keep the nb cool. I'll report back when I hit my next wall....

These boards seem to vary in how much vmch voltage they need for over 400. Some people seem to only need 1.75 or 1.85. Im not one of them 1.85 will allow me to boot 400 and allow some stability up to 411 but anything above that needs 2.0 vmch. I'd give 2.0vmch a try just to see if you can boot above 400fsb at all. I understand being cautious with voltage but 1.5v vcore isnt enough to find the limits of your cpu.

Im not saying throw 1.7v on there and leave it alone but to find out what your cpu will respond to you need to test it. I'd try up to 1.65v just to see where it gets me.

I'm a pretty methodical overclocker--I really only go 5mhz at a time. Yeah I think I did a quick sp 1m run at 9*400 I think at 1.85v mch, but I didn't even record it in my notes.

Sooo....I just passed 10 minutes of orthos with the following settings....

9*379, memory 1:1 5-5-5-15-35
vcore 1.2625V, vmch 1.55v, vdimm 2.25v.

Needless to say I'm very pleased, and a little perplexed. It looks like my overclocking is scaling along just fine, now that whatever wall it was has just gone away. Really not sure what was holding me back, but I'm glad its gone....

More power to you dude but i guess i just dont have the patience or get the point. I plan on picking up the asus commando board or another P5B Deluxe over the next couple weeks and once i pop it in im going straight to 450X9. If i can get it stable at that oc i'll work up from there and if not then i'll work down.

I guess i just dont get the concept of the moderate oc.

Older BIOSes have no issue when displaying onboard devices in the BIOS screen.

Actually this problem disappears with ccmos for me..i think you should try again!
My problem is that i cannot pass 400fsb even with more than 1.55vcore.I can get 400@1.5vmch stable and 465fsb (only by windows:( ) for 1M spi..
I haven't changed any cooler and thermal paste at all.Soon all mods..;)

can you explain me how you use guru to oc from windows?

i dont see how can get more fsb than in bios.. and let me guess..at reboot it dosnt bood from bios.. you need to reset cmos :rolleyes:

With the CPU I'm right now, I can't boot over 350MHz within bios and with the DEFAULT VCore.......
When going into Windows and play with the U-Guru, I can play at up to 455MHz+ fsb with the default VCore as well....IF I reboot, it comes into windows at the same fsb I've left it with the U-Guru(455MHz).......
So it's CPU depentant I think......
I have to add ALSO that when THIS CPU is under subzero cooling, the board boots at OVER 476MHz fsb EASY.....;) ....350MHz on air (LN2 container for heatsink) and 476MHz subzero WITHOUT touching/changing anything.....CPU depentand for sure as of me.....;)
With my previus CPU and the EXACT SAME bios/settings, I could boot at 390MHz with the Fatbodies Rams and at 435MHz with the CellShock Rams.....
ALSO it makes some difference at what timmings are the Rams during boot....

Im running the final version of 13 and my cpu max voltage on my cpu in bios is only 1.63, BUT I noticed tonight when messing with my friends Max that his is 1.68, he is running 13 beta. Is this normal?

Also, disabling LAN controller in BIOS doesn't work

vfsb&vmch mod

I made the vfsb and the vmch mods. Before the mods I went 451 FSB with the mobo! Now if I try to adjust the vfsb to 1.234V-1.475V with real 2.0V mch, the mobo not going above 455 at 8x!!! A tryed 5-5-5-15-- timings, real 1.85 to 2.0V mch, but the mobo not going above 451-455FSB.:confused: I have TT Spirit II on the NB.

Seems like BIOS 13 is finally showing its colours, despite the missing options in the BIOS. Anyways, swapped out the stock NB cooler from the board and replaced it with Thermalright HR-05, which fits like glove. So, booted up my "red edition" AW9D-MAX and it did 460FSB from the BIOS, not bad. Went into Windows and played with uGuru until I got the following:

AW9D-MAX "red edition" - BIOS 13 - 475FSB + Thermalright HR-05 (no vmods)

Anything above 455FSB wasn't really stable but 451FSB allowed me to complete dual Super PI 32Ms. 455FSB was good up to Super PI 1M only.

:D Today replaced the NB cooler, also redone the SB heatsink. cleaned the copper plate and i did stick AS5 betwen the coper plate and the SB heatsink. the glue under SB and copper plate was crap, hard as a rock and no way the heat was going thru that :rolleyes: . I wanted to replace the SB cooler too, but the Zalman flower didnt fit under the graphic card, will fit once i change the cooler on the graphic card.. but doubt ill do that

Fot NB i used an Swiftech ,which is super quiet ,bit heavy tho, and now i am waiting for the AS5 to get in form to see the actual temps

Stability on new bos? ye, at 1.85V mch in bios ,and how i have a week 1 cpu.. i cant oc it.. takes 1.6v to get damn 401fsb. Ill not bother look for another cpu.. so hope it dies so i can rma with Intel .. suggestions how to kill my cpu and be able to rma:rolleyes: ? :banana:

The only thing which lets me down is the PI, my old fx62 was doing 11.something , this abit does 14.something :stick:

Bios 13 made my system totaly unstable.

First, after clearing cmos, removing battery and all that, I got the message; Please insert systemdisk...

I had to swap the S-sata cables from 1 to 3 to boot in to windows.

When I fianly got in to windows the computer woud just reboot, or turn it selfe off :confused:

No, they don't. Only 2 of the cores work at the correct speed (0 and 3), the other 2 (1 and 2) stay at the 10x multi with my QX6700.

I've tried every single beta bios there was, as well as retail. I'm running my QX6700 in a P5B deluxe in stead. It handles fsb with the kentsfield much better as well. I couldn't get the AW9D-Max orthos stable past 272 Mhz fsb with the kentsfield, my e6700 could at least do ~425 Mhz fsb orthos stable, so IMO the AW9D-Max and kentsfield is a bad combination for overclockers.....

Yeah it foobarred me too, and after bios 13 did its damage I wasnt able to get back to my previous clocks using any other BIOS, made me a tad angry. I was able to run 445x9 orthos blend stable for 8+ hours and the best I can get out of it now is about 405ish with max vmch.

I used SiSoft SANDRA and according to it, I have all four cores OCed. I'll try the older CPU-Z, but the problem with this older CPU-Z is that they may not recognize four cores, hence, the multi on the other dual core isn't properly recognized (Though I understand that CPU supports even two-way/four-way physical socket system).

I may try PC Wizard as well since it came from the same author.
