That small halo effect says she did. :) Tough.. still nice.. I´m not sure that A700 really needs that.. would be nice to see how that photo looks without improvements..:)
The Halo affect happens when I use Manual Focus on this camera and not so much the processing itself. And that day I shot everything in manual focus.
Here's another of a similar flower that was processed in LR whereas the other one was tone-mapped in Photomatix only and cropped in CS4.

Notice how this one too has a virtual halo.
I believe it has something to do with the Macro mode on the lens which only functions on the 28mm wide end causing an extreme OOF. The skies probably contributes as well cause if you look properly, have the clouds seem overexposed and nicely merges into the blue skies.
Anyway all PP parameters are listed alongside the EXIF in Flickr if anyone wants to try and emulate the processing.
Interesting effect of lens.. :)
Yeah for sure. The 28-135mm is from 1985. it has an atrocious MFD of 5ft however it has lightning fast focus. It is also extremely prone to flare and Minolta never built a hood for it. The Marco switch for it disables AF and locks zoom to 28mm only.
Also the day I shot the flowers, it was windy as hell and the MF attempts weren't giving me much keepers. AF wouldn't have helped either since I would not have been able to hold on to the flower to get a better shot cause of the thorns.
I'll post another of the same flower tomorrow which was also tone-mapped but in a different angle.
The flowers have 2-3 tones of purple on the same flower naturally and the juvenile ones are darker still.
