Why is speedstep disabled when multiplier is set to 8?
TM, C1E is there but EIST line is removed. F7 bios. I am trying to run 8x400 MHz. Can do that with 1.33750 vcore. VID 1.30000.
Q6600 did 80C+ for few secs before i shut down prime95 even though TM was enabled in BIOS. Previously it would shut down at 71C. Did I fry the CPU? Hmm, I guess not -- running at 3.33 GHz now :)
What also does CPU health warning item do in PC Health Section. I have it set at 60C but it does not seem to do anything.
then your using ready boost not turbo memory, technically they do the same thing but the are connected in a different way.
ready boost uses thumbdrives connected via usb, turbomemory uses flash connected via the chipset/pci-e bus.
Also turbo memory is normaly not removable, its hardwired on the motherboard.
Hi everyone. To those with an E8400 or other Wolfdale - what temp readings do you get on the cores at what kind of voltages? How high would you let the coretemps go? >65 C ?
I was able to push the chip to 4545 with 1.5625v but the coretemps went sky-high, always having at least 10 degrees more on core 1. Max overall CPU temp was about 50 C. I don't have a high-end watercooling system, so I was wondering if I could get more out of the chip by replacing the CPU waterblock.
F8D bios same issue. At 8 x 400, EIST line is no longer in bios. It is there in other multipliers. However, this time speedstep works. In F7, it wouldn't work.
Also, CPU is no longer shutting down at 71C even though TM2 is enabled. Do you reckon TM2 part of the CPU is damaged?
I have a Gigabyte EX38 DS4 on the way. Is there a place where I can find beta bios' for this board?
try http://www.station-drivers.com
Its in french but has lots of goodies on it, including beta bios.
If I may but in for a sec? I baught into the old P965-DQ6 when new and it had a lot of little buggy issues about it although it did more or less what it was supposed to. I was wondering if the X38 version moved beyond that.
Issues: System settings were often reset or just lost on occassional restarts, enven during well tested, known good profile setting, only having to enter the same thing all over to get it to POST. Is this happening anymore I saw it a few times even of the P35-DQ6 so just curious. Also S3 (standby) was very iffy above 400FSB on that mobo. Is full ACPI S3/S4 functional to 500FSB at least in 1:1?
I'm interested in getting one of these to go along side my current rig in sig. I need or want to the layout of the BIOS options if somebody can post a template of theirs' Also, how stable is this mobo in ACPI suspends modes when on an updivider such as 5:6 for the E6x50 (or any native 1333FSB CPU)
Also coming new from an older Gigabyte, are their any major known issues to tackle first as per manual BIOS OC settings, like what settings are pick and what ones have no big impact worth changing?
Thankx in advance!
I recomend installing these new Intel Chipset drivers:
http://www.station-drivers.com/forum...pic.php?p=8381
They do work with the Gigabyte X38, all entries in Device manager show January 30th 2008.

Also new Realtek RTL8111B LAN drivers, version 6.203:

Thanks!!
Are the bios for the EX38 DS4 and the X38 DS4 the same? Does anyone know?
Yes it is available and it works as it should in other multipliers/frequencies.
It is not available in F8D but it works (meaning that you cannot disable it). It is not available in F7 and it doesn't work either (meaning that you cannot enable it, cpu works full speed all times).
Q6600 is 2.4 GHz by default (266 x 9 multiplier). The lowest multiplier is 6 and when your system is idle, the cpu decreases the multiplier and uses (266 x 6 = 1600 MHz). So you save on heat and energy.Quote:
2. What is speed step?
You can either leave it at default and let the cpu run at 1.6 GHz when the system is idle or disable it and let the CPU run at 2.4 GHz at all times.
I don't like speedstep. My system seems slower with it somehow. So I always disable it. Others might like it. Fiddle with it and find out for yourself.
GA-X38-DQ6 end of life, I think , there is a new version GA-EX38-DQ6.
It looks the same. I do not know what are the differences.

My PC onli idles while turned off ... so i wouldnt use that E thing would I ... that's an completley useless component ... 20W +/- jeez
Btw Hornet it's a doubled 6 phase
Board has finally arrived. Is there a download page (other than Gigabyte's) with all of the BIOS for X38 DQ6?
Appreciate the link. If vdroop isn't terrible and I can get stable 9X400 I will likely stay with F3 - but just in case I'd love to have F8d standing by.
