I've been running my rig stable at 9x 410 at over 1.6vcore for a bit now and it just crashed on my the other day. Display and usb's quit then it just hung on me. Now I'm having a hard time getting anything stable above 320fsb. I know there ae numerous reports of the board doing this, but I can't read through this thread to see the resolution. Is the board giving up on me? or do I just need to find some new, more reasonable settings, maybe even go to a 45nm chip so I don't give this board such a vcore load.
Hi, it seems that there have been issues with cold boots (namely BIOS reseting to defaults after a complete poweroff/unplug); is this related to a specific BIOS version such as 403? I was wondering if it is worth it to update to 410 as it seems that people have been reporting 601 as a downgrade.
also, will flashing the BIOS destroy my RAID0 array?
thanks in advance :)
I have no issues with 0601. It works great for me. And no, it will not affect your RAID.
thanks for the reply.
would i still have to use the conversion method to flash (i.e. method on first page) or would asus update work?
Thanks
Im getting horrible ? NB & SB temps on my maximus formula hanging in the 60's on idle. I know the treshold is up at 90 degree celsius but coming from a G35 chipset this is like a damn sauna, lol. I was wondering if mobo orientation has anything to do with this, im using an inverted case ( Lian Li V1000 ) but I thought these newer heatpipe assemblies didn't care wich way they were put and wont get saturated. Looks like imma have to watercool them afterall.
Hey!
First of all, hi to everyone :)
I've been trying to o/c my cpu to 4GHz, but so far no results.

Im about to flip here.Been reading this thread almost every day waiting for my Maximus to come from RMA but on tuesday its almost 4weeks when i sent it there.
Hope i get it soon so i go by your lead and try to beat the crap out of my Q9300.
Hello everyone! I need your help:
So i bought a new Q9550 E0, and can't overclock it higher than 3,6GHz
After 435 FSB i can't load os, and on 455FSB motherboard doesn't start at all.
Is it becouse of x38? By the way the CPU nedds only 1,25V for 3,6GHz
thanks for your replyes...

I don't belive my cpu has FSB Wall 440FSB
It seems X38 chips sets and 45nm quads dont play well.
On my Maximus 38 my 9550 would do 425x8.5 MAX not one number higher.
On my P45 Maximus board it will do 488x8.5 and I run it at 475x8.5 24/7.
So its not your chip its the board unfortunately.

stop that. 1.55v is more then enough... try to raise fsb to 1.4 or even 1.45v, vPLL to 1.55v and be sure your DDR aren`t holding u back, relax it on level 1, use the lowes frequency avaible 1:1 and use 2.00v cause this board overvolts it a bit. FSB strap set to 400, gives me better stability over 520mhz fsb, and also better bandwitch in read and write.
Bios 410 is great try it, I am at 601 now... @ 530x8 e8400 e0 @ 1.28v

Hey mate, I'm pretty much having the same problem as you are...
Look a page or 3 back (at max) you'll see my description and settings.
I'm currently running 9*445 which >seems< stable. But I cap around that max too. 4.2GHz for example is a no go for me (which is 9*460 or so)
Well I finally booted up at 481 FSB, had to lock my PCIE Frequency at 100 to get it stabilized =)

Update to my misery : Maximus Formula aint available in my country anymore and they offer me Maximus Formula ll instead. So i would get new MF2,its more expensive here but some how i dont fancy any P45.Other option is to take that RMA as in money (210€) and buy new mobo from their shop (they cover 210€ of my new mobo and refund the rest if i take cheaper)
I got Asus P5Q pro as a replacement board atm but i really dont like it at all.Any ideas?
- To get new Maximus Formula 2 cause they dont have the original Maximus Formula X38.
- Get 210€ (price of my X38 MF) to the shop and choose other motherboard,if i get cheaper they refund.
- Put more money 210€ + X amount of €uros for new mobo ( dont see any sense in this cause i7 came out to waste lots of money to high end socket 775 mobo.)
It has taken 4 weeks from them and if i understood correctly MF2 is 8x in crossifire and MF X38 is 16x.So i basically feel im getting more expensive but more suckier mobo.I got 280GTX but they dont know that in the shop so...
I also got Asus P5Q-pro mobo but im planning to sell this cause i really dont like this.
There is basically my options.Im planning to keep this pc for a while to till the i7 fuzz settles and i can get them for reasonable price (6-12months)
Your only oprtion for a motherboard is a MFII?
Futastic, pleas post your exact BIOS settings. It might help me to figure out what to do with my E8400 C0.
I'm about to go from extreme air cooling to wc, it's "officially" unstable at 4GHz..
MIIf is a solid board, it clocks great
If your running a single GPU you will get FULL 16x, CF is limited to 8x but its only noticable in benches.
My only suggestion/advice is to reseat the NB when / if you get it and run bios 1307 anything higher is craptastic for now. Maybe Asus will close the bar and let the bios engineers sober up so they can get it right.
I have both boards MIIF and Maximus X38 I doubt you'll be disapointed with the choice.
Ohwel..
I think I'll send my Special Edition board in because one of the HDD LED Pins broke off. With a BIT of good luck I'll get a new board, see if it does better or if I'm just a total nub.
Nothing above 4GHz is stable for me. Altough the temps are more than fine (25 idle, 45 load).
I don't think I can beat your 4Ghz and 1.320v on that C1 chip, but here is 4.1Ghz on 1.384v on my C1. Even more impressive, my G.Skills passed 32M pi at 1160mhz!
Over the last few days I've been running 4.25Ghz (8.5x500 fsb), and DDR2 1000. I prefer to max both clocks and ram frequencies, so we'll see what gives. The new G.Skills DDR2 1000 4-4-4-12 is tempting me a lot, but I'm holding on to my wallet for now. Right now, I gotta decide whether 4.25Ghz/DDR2 1000 > 4.1 Ghz/DDR2 1160.
That would be an interesting little comparison of benchies, Zucker2k
Can somebody tell me if this memory is a good overclocker/compatible with the P5E moded to RF?

if its passing small FFT's and not passing blend then its your ram, try runnng memtest with your FSB set back to 471 and see if it fails.
If so try adjusting clock skew to advanced 350ps, and your NB volts might require 1.51-1.53
Hi,
I'm trying to get my HyperX ram to work with stock settings and I'd be grateful if you guys could take a look. I cant get past around 10 mins in the stability test in Everest.
E6850 at 3000 MHz (9X333)
Maximus Formula Bios 1201
2 sets of Kingston KHX8500D2/1GN (4 GB total in 1 GB sticks) (5-5-5-15 2.2v)
Below are the settings I have. The DRAM voltage is 2.14 because in Everest this gives me 2.24v
Which settings should I work with and should I be using Everest to test for stability or Memtest86+ or something else?
cheers,
Charlie

May i ask what the best oc bios is for the maximus formula, cuz im still using 0602.
Forgot some, does this board also support 45 nm?
Didn't someone edit 0308 for E0 support?
I thought I read that somewhere...
I dont recall, I thought I needed 401 for my E8600.
You guys aware of BFG's offer to upgrade older AGP cards to PCI-E 9600GT or higher
I just got my old 6800 256mb upgraded to a 9600GT OC 512mb for teh low cost of shipping.
Could have got a 9800GT OC 512 for 50 bucks but then that would not be free
thanx for the reply guys

But as your running Geforce its harder to say does it have something to do whit it.
ram, or even Vista corruption who knows.
What about with regular maximus bios? Or would you reccomend converting to Rampage to get 4.0 out of the the x38? I've got 8gb of RAM and I'm not sure if it's my board or the chip I got that's holding my OC back, but I'm hittign a wall at 3.7 (410fsb) right now. No matter what I do, I can barely get windows to boot over 410 and it hangs in the first minute if I do get in.
I just upgrade my mem to 2x2Gb dims, but I'm not sure if I should use the Banks 1&3 or 2&4
Advice?
Well, I took 2 sticks out and got a decent OC at 430fsb. Looks like the 4x 2gb RAM is not going to allow me to push this chip much further than 3.6.
Anyone have experience with fsb > 400 and 8gb of RAM on this board?
Hi After a long time i think is time to do some changes to my Maximus Formula Se.
I been running it since day 1 with a QX6700 @ 3.6Ghz 24/7
Iam thinking is i put the Rampage Formula 0601 Bios i might be able to get it a bit higher. My intention is 24/7 settings anything above 3.6Ghz
Any suggestions? Do you think will go higher?
So is 0601 really any better than 0308 for a non EO chip? What about a QX6850?
Here are my settings w/ my 8G GSKILL DDR2 1000. Dont have the time to oc as in the past, but it's a decent oc, 100% stable. This is an E8400 E0 rev.

Maximus "Rampage" Bios v0308 Settings
dude your PLL is insane. so is your NB voltage.. chill out man
I cant update the bios with 0601 and the rest of the rampage bios.
It says not able to open the file. The maximus bios are working fine,
but i really want that rampage bios. Can somebody help me :D
finally flashed it, the 1st and 2nd time it was saying unable to open file.
After the 3rd time try it flashed. Im 100% i didnt misstype anything the 1 and 2 time,
maybe broken usb stick.
I'm just getting used to this chip and figuring out what it like on this board, but overall I need less volts through the board than my e6700 needed. Like you though, I think I need my NB under water to give it enough volts to run much over 450 with my 8gb o RAM. I've gotten it to boot at 475fsb w/ 1.72 NBv, but it dumped shortly after.
Update: seems my NB temps and voltage are going to be a pain with this chip. Even at 420fsb i had a hard time adequately cooling the NB below 60c with the volts needed (1.68v) to keep the system solid. Looks like I'm tweaking the system at 400fsb until I can cool the NB down.
Hello everyone again:) So, i finally changed my mobo, ( because as you remember my maximus couldn't do more than 430 FSB with my Q9550
I got P5Q Deluxe and now i can boot 470x8.5:)
So far, this hasn't worked out too well for me. The best I can get it a boot into windows but the system blue screens after 30 seconds if it doesn't freeze before that.Code:Extreme Tweaker

The best stable config I've gotten so far is 400fsb, Performance level auto (13) and NB/SB voltages much less than that.
+1 on the Gskill's, its all plug-n-play.......
thus far, I haven't had any performance or compatibility issue w/ the OCZ sticks. I have to manually set the Row Refresh Cycle Time, but that's it.
One thing I've noticed with the Rampage bios is that is was easier to get the system to boot at different settings, but at the same time more difficult to get things stable. There is an ass load of setting in there.
