Thanks lawrywild, but it didn't work with bios 2403 or your custom 2004. This sucks. I don't know why i can't change the vcore.

I've been running BIOS 1503 for more than a year with an E6300@2.8-3.0 on air. It is stable and has been great. I snapped up a Q6600 for $199 at microcenter tonight on a whim. I would like a BIOS recommendation... which one should I use? Looking for a good mix of overclockability and stability. Thanks :)
i run one on mine, no problems.
unless there's some sort of backplate beneath the mobo right now(for example, if you're using a zalman), there's no need to remove the board, just push the pins in.
as far as advice goes, yea, i got a bit. mount the cooler without the fan attached. to make attaching the fan easier, have a pair of needlenose pliers handy. line up the little nubs in their respective holes on the fan and pull on the nubs with the pliers while pushing the fan towards the heatsink. took me all of 15 minutes to pull out my old cooler, clean the chip, apply TIM, put the xigmatek in, and put the fan on.
Hey Random Murderer...question for you. Your CPU is validated for over 3Ghz? How did you manage that? What BIOS version and what's your CPU voltage?
I get stuck at 3Ghz unstable on the Q6600 G0 in windows with an idle temperature of 25C...more voltage doesn't help at all. My E6600 ran at 3.6Ghz with old BIOS version of 1503...which I think was a little unstable with 2602.
I changed the cable and no difference. ok, i did a fresh install and it was a big waste of time. i found that the burst rates are inconsistent. sometimes my drives get the normal burst rate and other times it's too low. what doest this mean? bad mobo or power supply? it's not drivers or software related i think. MY liteon 20a4p gets either 43 or 23 mb. I'll do a burst rate test several times in a row and get inconsistent results. How would it change from 23 to 43 and then back to 23 in consecutive tests?
Could also be a fault of the testing application! It uses a relative short testing period, so small variations, can have large impact on the result.
Still I think burst rate for optical drives is overrated.
Do you have any real world problems with the drive(s)?
I'm running a B3 Q6600 on my P5W with bios 2602.... running 356x9 = 3.2ghz @ 1.35v... 4x1gb DDR2-800 GSkill 5-4-3-4 @ 2.1v (spec)
I've tried going 400x8, 400x7, 400x6... and it fails to boot at all... I've got Hyperpath3 disabled, i've tried enabling SPD... i've tried raising mch voltage to 1.65, still not booting... Any advice?
You running an older Bx also? what voltages are you running? just to give me some ideas to try.
I don't know if my last post got overlooked or what..
I have an E6750 oc'ed to 3.2GHz right now on air, with really good temps, I'd like to go up to 3.4 then maybe to 3.6 and see how well it takes it.
The E6750 has a locked multi at 8x, I know to get to 3.4 I need a FSB of 425, right? And for 3.6 I'd need 450. What voltages should I start at for these?
Thanks for the answer. So should I just start for 3.4, and see if I can get it to work? If not, I can always go back down to previous stable settings. I'll post after a while and let you guys know.
Q6600 G0, 2602 bios was not stable for me at 356 X 9 1.35v. It's game stable (will last a couple of hours but guaranteed a random reboot which is annoying in the middle of a TF2 match  ).
Tried everything to get it stable, spd, vmch, etc.. no joy- so I'm back on 333 X 9 24 hour stable auto volts.
what could be the problem on my p5w dh
whenever i shutdown it always restart
things ive tried
* bios upgrade
* bios downgrade
* cmos reset
* disable power on by keyboard, mouse, lan etc
ive remove any usb device on the usb 3&4 "the one for the usb remote" and now it doesnt restart after shutdown
its just happen just now but my setup is working fine before for almost 1yr
+ used multitester on the usb port and ive found out when its on standby mode it only emits 2-3v and when i turn it on it goes to 4.5-5v which is normaly before even on standby it should give me a 5v
so does my usb port is busted?
Shutdown issues are usually related to Windows and drivers. Try searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base for more information.
i think mine is not a windows driver issue, becaues although its on standby the usb ports are only 2-3v and which is unusual from before and also tried my friends p5w dh but his usb port even on standby is maintained to 4.80-5.09v
and also ive tried xp sp2, vista ulti 32 w/c is my default setup way way back before but it doesnt give me this problems
tried another power supply yet?
yep i tried it on other p5w as well, vice versa psu and motherboard still it occurs only to my board
Question please.
In the standard motherboard setup (no ahci), is the rear panel e-sata really an e-sata port or just a standard port? If I plug a e-sata drive into this port when the computer is on, am I taking a chance of corrupting the e-sata drive or risking damaging the MB?
Not really clear about how the e-sata works in the standard setup.
Thank you
Does this mother have 1t/2t option to change in bios ? i have a problem, i have a supertalent blue 2x1gb at 5-5-5-15 2.0v 800mhz and the memtest 3.6 of windows show two errors at 8 hours approximately, but if i change de timings at 4-4-3-8 the errors are show in lower time, i think that the problem is a configuration of the bios, the timings, fsb of this motherboard maybe? (now i have setted in 400 but the processor is stable) or the ram are broken, i don´t know, help please
and what do the option "write recovery time"? how can i know what is the best clock for my RAM
thanks.
Hi All,
I'm having a major problem with my rig: Every time I try to reboot after shutting down, I cannot past the post screen by being stuck at the Welcome screen. The only way that I can boot up again is to reset the bios.
It all started about a couple of months back with frequent "Checking NVRAM" deaths and I had to do the same thing. Then I figured it might be the BIOS and I updated to 2504, no help; then I figured it might be the power supply, changed it, no help. Finally, I found that one of the ram seems to have a problem, I took that away, it worked! But not for long. Now I'm out of luck.... Is it because my overclocking?
Configuration: P5W DH Deluxe BIOS 2504
CPU: Intel C2D E4400 Overclocked to 3GHz
Memory: Buffalo Firestix 3GB DDR2-600 4-4-4-11 2.1v
Power Supply: Corsair 750W-TX
Help please!!!! Thanks!
George
I only used my eSATA box for a while, then moved the drive inside my PC when I found myself leaving the enclosure on all day when the PC was off.
It worked fine when I plugged it in hot. The other JMicron SATA connector near there is the only other one I found that worked hot. If you attach an eSATA adapter like the one that came with my enclosure to the other SATA ports, you will have to reboot to have the drive recognized. It also gets lonely if you disconnect the drive: the PC seizes up every once in a while looking for the drive to respond.
I now use SATA trays instead, one is for backing up the PC with a pile of 500GB drives I've collected, and another is there for when I decide to fill it permanently. There's no fan on that though, so I'm going to work on that before I use it all the time. Lucky for me the SATA RAID adapter I bought at Best Buy also hot-swaps, so with it set to Big and only one drive on it, I can hot-swap either tray...
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to set up RAID on this board......what a PITA....
I tried it like this
but when I start installing windows and prompts me to press F6 I have no power in the keyboard....it powers on when windows starts installing(when it asks if you want to install XP, repair or quit).
I just can't figure out how to load the RAID drivers.
I have 2 500 GB 7200.11s in the 2 black SATA connectors(SATA 3 and 4). I tried to leave the jumper on or taking it off...same :banana::banana::banana::banana:.
Any ideas before I torch this mother:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::ban ana:??
Thanks fellas.
I'm guessing you have a USB keyboard. If you have a PS2 keyboard, use that for the install. If not, then check you have 'Legacy USB' enabled - this 'should' allow the USB keyboard to be recognised during the install.
Alternatively, you could slipstream the RAID drivers onto the WinXP installation CD with nLite.
I just bought a PS2 keyboard from the thrift store....wasted 3 dollars.
Now the kb has power during the install(num luck light is on all the time) but still teh system doesn't respond when I hit F6.
After that it prompts you to press F2 if you want to start automatic system recovery...when I press F2 it works....un:banana::banana::banana::banana:ingbeli avable
any other ideas?
thanks
hello everybody,
i got my E8500 and change to bios 2602...my board revision is 1.02 (the old one)
i´m not able to fix the multi manually at 9,5...i can´t select the half mutli...
also the vcore only works at AUTO...manually i can select 1,45 to 1,7...but it doesn´t work, if i select 1,45V...
does anybody know the problems?
thanks godsmack
Half multi's don't exist on Intel.. only AMD
Don't know about your vcore problem.
I updated to 2602 yesterday, works OK except that EIST doesn't seem to work on it's own anymore. I needed to enable C1E too. 2406 worked fine with just EIST enabled..
That's no longer true. The new E8x00 processors from Intel now use half multis.
Eg. E8500 runs on 9.5 multi @ 333Mhz = 3.16GHz.
I think the board will require a new BIOS to handle this. Whether Asus will provide one or not is another question.
Oh ok, haven't been paying much attention recently :P
EDIT: But surely this will be a chipset issue. I'm pretty certain 975x can't run half multis..
I think you're right.
Just checked compatibility on Intel's website and their 975 chipset is not compatible with the E8500 processor.
the bios recognize the E8500 and it´s using the 9,5 multi...but in the bios i onley can switch between 6-9 multi...9,5 doesn´t available...
actualley my system runs with 9,5*380...
i hope asus will published an new bios wich give better support to EIST, C1E, manually vcore settibgs and 9,5 mutli ;)

I have problem with my computer after half year. When I turn it on, from outlook everything work well like fans, light.... But mostly it does not post anything on the monitor. It always says "No signal".
However sometimes (rarely) when I turn on it works normally. I notice it only works when the light on the case blinks during booting process.
I tried to test PSU. Chipset, VGA Card, HDD in anther computer and they are working fine. The only thing left is mobo.
What's wrong with my mobo? Is there anyway to fix it?
Thanks!
Ash:
90% chance it's the memory.
Try a different set of RAM in that computer and I bet it will work every time.
Alternatively, try your existing Ram in another PC....
I'm probably going to be selling mine in the next couple weeks if you're interested...
I have a 7-year-old Compaq that does stuff like that. Turn it on, or sometimes right after having rebooted it, and no monitor signal ever appears. I pull the plug out of the back and leave it sit for 10-15 minutes, then it works.
No idea if this is a PSU issue or a motherboard issue...
I had the exact same problem with the voltages with my p5w. I didn't worry with it too much and put my e6600 back in while I waited for my new mobo to arrive so unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. I would recommend doing a long cmos clear though. This process is explained in the manual. I'd let it sit for 10 minutes or so before setting the jumper back to normal. Hopefully this will help.
What Should I do to get 400*9 ??
I have ..E6600 and 2 GB Crucial pc2-1000(5-5-5-15) and hd2900pro and Epsilon 700W
and i'm using bios 2004
my settings :
400*9
800 and Enable SPD ..not working ! random reboots
800@4-4-4-12 not working !random reboots
vcore=1.5
Performance Mode: Standard
PCI Express Frequency: 100
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode: 33.33
Memory Voltage: 2.2
MCH Chipset Voltage: 1.65
FSB Termination: 1.4
ICH Chipset Voltage: 1.2
Disabling Hyperpath, EIST, Speedstep, C1
First, back down to an 8x multi and see if your CPU and board can do 400.
I'll be flashing back too, 2602 is not stable at all for me. Even running SPD 1:1 and underclocking my memory I still get random reboots every now and then.
2406 was running fine for me 24 hour stable for weeks on end Folding- not a chance of that happening with 2602:mad:
hey guys, quick question here
i've been using bios 2004 for quite a while with no major bugs or anything, but i'm limited to 428 fsb using 1.85v for vmch.
i have the 1.04G version of the board.
what i'd like to know if the new bioses could offer me higher FSB.. i'm talking about 450+ maybe.. anyone been lucky to get that on this board?
i've recently bought a T.R.U.E. and i'm very tempted to try to get close to 3.8Ghz on my E6420, which has been done before on a P5B-Dlx.. but i'd need 475fsb for that..
thanks in advance
i used 2004 for a long time myself then 2403 seemed good but dont know if it will let you go any higher and i have the 103.g rev
Rich
and can anybody around here get 450+ fsb 24/7 without mods?
i took away the metal covers from the heatsinks and there are two 92mm fans on the case door blowing on top of them...
i'd like to get some tips as to how maximize the fsb of my mobo, otherwise i'm going to get a cheap ass p35 that does much more than my p5w.
Hi guys,
I've just picked up another 2GB of RAM- 4GB total now. Bios shows all 4096mb on boot.
Now when I go into an OS it shows the following (32-bit memory limitation I'm aware of):
XP 32-bit: 2.6GB memory remap disabled
XP 32-bit: 2.0GB memory remap enabled
Ubuntu Gutsy 64-bit: 3.5GB memory remap enabled
Shouldn't the 64-bit OS show all 4.0GB of RAM? The only thing I can think of that would affect this is my crossfire config- 1024mb of RAM on each card.
Anyone know how VRAM might affect memory mapping?
Thanks
Hi Lurker, i got exactly your same config but the psu (I got an enermax liberty 500) and the videocard (i got an ati x1900xt).
I'm using xp_x64 and i can see all 4096Mb of ram.
By the way: i cannot exceed 328Mhz bus speed.. ho did you reach 333Mhz speed?????
I'm going to run a trial of Vista x64 to see if that picks up the RAM, as it shows the full amount of RAM in BIOS, I thought ubuntu 64 wouldn't have a problem with it but hopefully Vista picks it up- Can't stand the thought of unused resources :shakes:
It's been hitting 333 since I've used it, It will go as far as 346 for a benching run.
Here's my config, in case it helps:
BIOS 2602
RAM 2.1v 834Mhz 4-4-4-12
Vmch 1.85v
CPU 1.30v 9 X 333
I've basically got everything else disabled- Speedstep, Hyperpath, Asus Q-Fan.
The only other thing I could think of is to re-seat the North bridge cooler, it may be loose as those Asus clips and the stock thermal goop are crap. I reseated with AS5 the day I got the board. I remember removing the cooler and there was, what looked like a pile of chalk sitting on top of the NB chip
I have the 1.03g revision board- As far as I can remember only the 1.03g and 1.04g boards have the option for 1.85v. 1.02g and lower only have an option for 1.65v but a pencil mod can get it up to 1.85v.
If I set it to auto the system won't boot at all @ 333 X 9
1.65v - System is unstable overclocked but stable @ stock
1.85v - Rock Solid. I've also got a 40mm fan on top of the heatsink. Even after hours of gaming the NB heatsink is barely luke warm.
BIOS 2602 was unstable for me for a while after I added a second gfx card and another 2GB of RAM. I never got around to flashing back to 2504. Strangely enough after a week or two of teething problems 2602 is now stable for me.
I've been running 1.85v since September and it's never caused a problem- heat or stability wise, but I've got an insane amount of 120mm Fans in a CM stacker case. 3 on the sidedoor, 1 on the case top, 1 on the front panel, 1 on the back panel and finally 2 more on a TRU120E heatsink. Overkill? Yes- But you'll never hear me complain about temps ;)
I see. Effectively if i use 1.85Vmch the system is stable even at AUTO on Vcore! But if i touch the NB.. its really hot (i can touch it for about 5-6 seconds, then it start to hurt). Asus PC PROBE II says 40°C on MB temp. I'm a bit afraid. Under 1.85Vmch i can't go over 328Mhz.
I have a 92mm fan (silenx) on sidepanel, 120mm rear fan and 120mm front fan. The cpu cooler is the stock one.
I'd definitely stick a 40mm fan on top of the heatsink- it fits perfectly as the corner screws fit in between the heatsink fins holding it on good and tight.
What are your idle\load temps with the stock cooler at 328 x 9 ? (I'm only guessing but if your in the 60 - 70c at full load that could be your problem right there) don't know if the stock intel cooler can handle 3.0Ghz  as I've never used the stock intel cooler on this mobo.
One more thing.. Have you got a B3 stepping Q6600 or a G0? Some people with the B3 had problems reaching 3Ghz others could reach 3.2 with good cooling. I'm running the G0.
I got a G0 stepping and the temps goes up to 70°C @full load.
These are the idle temps, with eist activated, Vdimm=2.05V and all other voltages to default:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/9370/tempsux6.th.png
Yup, from the looks of things a 40mm fan on the NB and an aftermarket cooler should sort you out. There the only things on your setup I can see that would prevent you reaching 333 X 9. There's always a chance though it could be a board problem. I'd go for something cheap and effective if it bothers you though as it's more than likely only going to run at 333 X 9 anyway. I know it's only a few mhz but not reaching 333 would p**s me off too. It still annoys me I can't get stable at 3.2 :(
Humm, maybe you're right. I got the same mainboard of yours (1.03g) and the strange thing is that it's easy to reach 3Ghz but i get random errors during file transfers and "not exact in round" with superpi. If i use 1.85Vmch all is ok.
What about the noise of a 40mm fan on the nb?
Your gfx & psu fan would be a lot louder than a 40mm fan on the NB. You can always connect it to a motherboard fan header and set the RPM in BIOS fan control if it is too loud.
Definitely take off the heatsink and reapply some thermal paste as I can more or less guarantee that if it's still stock thermal paste it's hardened and your not getting good thermal conductivity with it.
This thread helped me a lot when setting the board up:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=106563
*There used to be pics of the board on the thread but they've disappeared
This might qualify as a double post (I posted the same message in the "Making P5WDH ready-thread):
I took the liberty of uploading all the pics from this thread to rapidshare:
http://rapidshare.com/files/99755931...onroe.rar.html
Hope that helps. They still retain all their original names, although they are
not in the same order as posted in the thread.
I have flashed my board with the newest bios and now i cant set the vcore under 1.45v, and with a Xeon E3110 1.45v vcore is kinda high
anybody else with this problem?
Anyone looking for a new mobo and wanna sell their P5W DH in the US? I would buy yours if it's in good and working condition with all retail accessories. PM me if you are interested, we can work out the price. I got some heat under my user name...
Mine's still available if you changed your mind on the price.
How much are you looking to spend on one?
under $100 if possible, I will buy a cheapo P35/P965 instead if I can't find one. I am interested in this mobo because it's very compatible with mac os...
dude i've been trying to get leopard 10.5.2 installed for the past day and a half.
mind telling me what you're using nad how you got 10.5.2 on yours?
the only one i could successfully get to work was itakos and updating to 10.5.2 is damned near impossible. thanks man.
Anybody here tried a Q9450 on a P5WDH already, how's the performance? Thanks
Fait
I just bought a P5K-E Wifi, how do I transfer my Raid0 hard disks to the new board? I raid the two using EZ-Raid on my P5W DH.
i got a question. i just got another 3870, but it seems my bottom pci slot and my bottom pcie slots are dead. is this a known issue with bios 2504(as a friend encountered with an abit board he had) or is it time to rma?
I had 2900xt's crossfired in 2504 and a single one running in the bottom slot previous to that.
I remember seeing someone else with a similar issue crossfiring 3870's on this board. Apparently it ran fine after setting the PEG link options in BIOS to auto. I'll take it you've already tried a single card in the bottom slot?? If that's not working it's RMA time unfortunately :(
Hello, I'm having trouble keeping my P5W DH Deluxe with an E6300 stable. I just did a reformat, and redownloaded the chipset and audio drivers. Now, when I try to boot up with my old settings @ 2.78GHz, it will boot until I get to Windows XP, then restart itself. I've tried upping the voltages, but that didn't help. What should I change with my current settings?
Performance Mode: Auto
PCI-E Frequency: 100
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode: 33.33MHz
Memory Voltage: 2.05V
CPU VCore Voltage: 1.3V
FSB Termination Voltage: Auto
MCH Chipset Voltage: Auto
ICH Chipset Voltage: Auto
I have done what it says on the first post, and it has worked before my reformat. What could I be doing wrong?
Q9450 officially supported

Newer 2602 on asus ftp long ago
2504 and 2406 both work great for me. 2602 was buggy...
2602 went OK so far. I haven't run any torture tests in months but I'll get to them soon...
So I've just re-installed my Vista x64, thought it would be a good time seeing as SP1 is out. I've had an annoying problem ever since I installed Vista in that the computer crashes when waking up from Hibernate and Sleep. It's done this on all the BIOS versions I've tried, I'm on 2602 now. All the fans come on full blast and it just sits there, roaring at me. Not ideal.
This is a completely fresh install, all drivers including my Radeon drivers are the most up-to-date ones.
Any ideas what might be casusing this? My BIOS settings have all the ACPI stuff turned to 'on'.
